What is this? A new electrical language podcast? Well, sort of.

I last recorded a podcast in November 2012. Oops, sorry. I’m afraid I cannot see electrical language ever coming back. Life has moved on.

However, I thought I would share with you all a collection of 15 tracks played on electrical language over the years. About 6 or 7 years ago I put together this selection of tracks, which I burned on to CDs to give some friends. The idea was to give them a taster of the great independent music that is out there that never gets played on the radio.

A few days ago I found my copy of that CD. I played it, and I thought this music is still really good. So I decided as a kind of farewell to electrical language that I would put this podcast together.

Yes, a horrible rainy day in Hampshire. I’m actually listening to an old electrical language, no 140. It’s quite good, so why not give it a listen?

6 months after the last episode of electrical language, I am back. For all kinds of reasons, including those mentioned in the podcast, I needed to take a break.

Podcast 226 was recorded in my friend Mark’s studio. in both video and audio format. Even more worrying for me, it was all done in one take, in real time, so if I stumbled over my words there was no going back to do it again. But it was fun, so I think we’ll do this again from time to time if Mark will let me.

By the way, Mark is the presenter of TTFN.TV – have a look. And here are some photos taken in his studio.

I was hopelessly unprepared. When I arrived at the studio I had not even chosen the songs. I went through e-mails of song submissions over about the last 2 months, and chose 7 songs which all turned out to be really good. I also slipped in a couple of older songs.

Preparing to re-launch

As I prepare to re-launch electrical language, I have been doing things with the feeds, for reasons given in this post.

If you wish to subscribe to electrical language, you can do so using either the wordpress feed https://electricallanguage.wordpress.com/feed or the feedburner feed http://feeds2.feedburner.com/theelectricallanguagepodcast. In fact the feedburner feed picks up the wordpress one, so they are both the same thing anyway. However, because the wordpress feed is a large file size, I have had to restrict it to the last 25 posts. So if you subscribe using iTunes or the like, you will no longer see the full history.

You can, however, find the full archive of podcast mp3 files at archive.org:

what’s happening with electrical language?

If you listened to electrical language 223 you will have heard me talking about the end of the hosting arrangement with Libsyn. The complementary hosting for the mp3 files that I have enjoyed for the last 5 years has now come to an end.I have just got my act together and paid $15 to purchase another month of hosting with Libsyn, but will be closing the account at the end of March. At that point I will download the stats, which I will post here.

I have begun the process of re-uploading the mp3 files, which will now be on the servers at archive.org. I have just done this with podcast 223. I have edited the page on this blog so that the download link no longer points to the mp3 file at Libsyn but to the location of the file at archive.org.

I have just negotiated with my son Richard (age 15) that for a fee equivalent to about six months hosting with Libsyn he will upload all the other mp3 files to archive.org and will edit the blog pages. While he is at it he will also copy the blog posts for the first 122 podcasts from the original blogger site onto this WordPress site so that all the pod casts can be found in one place. I expect that this process will take Richard two or three months.

Before the Libsyn account closes for good at the end of March I will change the feed burner feed. The new feed will be https://electricallanguage.wordpress.com/feed – I have checked this feed by subscribing to the podcast using iTunes, and have successfully downloaded podcast 223 from the archive.org location. hopefully, if you subscribe to the podcast using iTunes you will see no change and everything will work smoothly and seamlessly. Well, I can but hope!
