Make sure you don’t miss the latest episode of the fast-growing 3 Up Front podcast!

Host Adrian Clarke, joined by regular pundits Iain Spragg and Iain Macintosh explore a range of fresh, fun topics during half an hour of great chat that includes;

How on Earth is Mrs Kevin Nolan going to find living with Andy Carroll? The Newcastle team-mates will be house-mates as part of a judge’s decision in an Andy Carroll assault case. The pod discusses the live-in situation’s impact on Newcastle United and frankly, whether it makes any sense at all.

Fact or Fiction: Has Mourinho turned Real Madrid into world beaters already? Some Real Madrid fans seem to think so, and even Ronaldo is purring at top gear. And do Real Madrid really need Rooney to beat Barcelona?

The X-aggerated Factor: Are Manchester United on the verge of a Liverpool-esque meltdown? Wayne Rooney’s much publicised ‘impending’ departure from Manchester United has pundits comparing United’s future to Liverpool’s present – debt-ridden and out of the Champions League. United could be in a spot of trouble, but not if they buy Torres from Liverpool.

Manchester City v Arsenal: Can Arsenal produce a shock victory at Manchester City?

The Shoot Out: Hawkeye, the boy Bale and Rafa’s milk. It’s all happening, all over again.

It’s another belter – tune in now! [audio:3upfront_21oct.mp3]

3 Up Front is back and you’d be crazy to miss the latest blockbuster of a show! In a three-pronged attack on your footballing senses host Adrian Clarke, along with star pundits Iain Spragg and Iain Macintosh are in fine form as they tackle all the burning issues including;

The shambles that is Liverpool and Everton. Poor starts to the season have had fans wondering if their seasons are already over, reminding fans of slow starts from last season and the reliance of both Everton and Liverpool on a small number of players. Liverpool’s financial troubles are well documented, but their Carling Cup exit has pundits really getting on their backs. To quote the opening paragraph of Tim Rich’s report in the Guardian:

No club treasures its history more than Liverpool and its lowest point is generally agreed to be the FA Cup defeat by Worcester City several months before Bill Shankly walked into Anfield like Jimmy Cagney in a tracksuit. That was away from home with Liverpool stagnating in the old Second Division and in an age before rolling news and the internet, the damage was limited to headlines in the Liverpool Echo. Last night, Liverpool were at home, they were playing a side 69 places below them and there were cameras everywhere.

Fact or Fiction: Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere – is he the best teenager since Rooney? There has been plenty of hype surrounding the Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere, with Arsenal fans calling him the most exciting young talent to come out of the youth ranks since Cesc Fabregas and England fans comparing Wilshere’s rise to that of Wayne Rooney. Is Wilshere the real deal, and can he keep his feet on the ground? The pod discuss this and more in Fact or Fiction.

The X-aggerated Factor: Could Hatem Ben Arfa be the new Ginola? The French youngster has had a chequered path to the English Premier League, falling out with several of his fellow young footballers before landing a spot at newly promoted Newcastle. In an environment where he’s likely to be a star talent, can Hatem Ben Arfa fulfill is potential and help Newcastle stay in the Premier League?

The Shoot-Out: Milan Jovanovic’s other jobs, blow up dolls, Alex Song and Cobblers. Iain Macintosh and Iain Spragg go head to head in this week’s devious shoot-out, who will come on top? And can you get more questions right than the two Iains?

The trio also discuss the big game of the weekend, Manchester City v Chelsea, and give their bets of the week.

Adrian Clarke & Iain Spragg mark the 40th episode of the world famous Soccerlens podcast with a rip-roaring show.

The boys kick off with a review of this week’s midweek fixtures, their thoughts on Rio Ferdinand as England’s captain, and an assessment of the financial mess that is Portsmouth Football Club. In the wake of Arsene Wenger’s threat of a silent protest the duo focus on the media attributes (or lack of them) of the Premier League bosses before ending the show with some classic listener’s questions.

It’s one of their best yet – don’t miss it!

The two latest Soccerlens podcasts [1, 2] have seen Clarkey & Spraggy trying to tickle your funny bone with their suggestions for the film remakes they’d like to see football folk in.

It’s been a hit-and-miss feature so far, so we’re asking you to put the dynamic duo out of their misery and come up with some genuinely funny offerings.

You’ve already been propping up the show with some suggestions but we desperately need more or Clarkey & Spraggy will inflict more of their own on an unsuspecting world. And no-one wants that.

Here’s what they’ve been able to muster between them so far…

Joleon Lescott – Scarface
Arsene Wenger – How To lose Friends & Alienate People
Stan Collymore – Rear Window
Aaron Lennon – Catch Me If You Can
Malcolm Glazer and Tom Hicks – America Gangster(s)
Tony Pulis & James Beattie – The Break-Up
Craig Bellamy – Fight Club
Andy Reid – Run Fat Boy Run
Jonathan Woodgate – The Man Who Knew Too Little
Didier Drogba – Vertigo(Ferdinand)
Michael Owen – The Comeback Kid
Alan Hutton – [Mini-Me in] Austin Powers
Brad Friedel – American Beauty

If you think you can do better (and let’s face it, the bar hasn’t been set that high), email your gems to podcast@soccerlens.com and Clarkey & Spraggy will feature them on next week’s show.

United v Arsenal, Barcelona v Shakhtar, Milan v Inter and more - originally posted on Sportslens.com

The football community is abuzz with last Tuesday’s unexpected episode of hooliganism at Upton Park, the Championship League draw, and some excellent football matches this weekend. There’s also the ‘over-the-top’ outrage at Eduardo winning a soft penalty against Celtic and for our money, the press has in the past and always will make a mountain out of nothing for a story.

Of course, this mountain has moved UEFA to do the ‘PC’ thing and ban Eduardo for 2 games. It’s not a witch-hunt but Eduardo has been made an example out of for the rest of the Champions League season. Let’s see if it has any impact on diving this year.

On to today’s links:

Hooliganism in football
Did fans of Westham and Millwall displayed uncharacteristic violence last Tuesday? Blogger Neil Jones argues that hooliganism is still rife among fans of the national sport and that authorities should put more measures to ensure that such mob rule don’t happen again.

Portsmouth’s away kit released
Canterbury has launched the Portsmouth Away Kit for the 2009-2010 season. Meanwhile we get a peak at Sunderland’s Away Kit.

No more transfers for Liverpool
Managing Director Purslow laid to rest any transfers rumors for the club after the Championship League draw. To see the Liverpool’s Championship League dates, click here.

A walk in the park for Arsenal
The Championship League draw saw Arsenal pitted against AZ Alkmaar, Olympiacos, and Standard Liege. Though these teams are champions in their own right, there is no way they will win against Arsenal.

Arsenal video galore
Scott the Red is having a fun time posting favorite videos of Arsenal games. So far he has posted four videos. Here’s the fourth one.

Soccerlens Podcast Episode 17
Stephen Darwin hosts the second episode of this season’s Soccerlens Podcast with guests Terry Duffelen and Chris Oakley of The Onion Bag and Some People Are On The Pitch.

Barcelona v Shakhtar Donetsk
Barcelona and Shakhtar Donetsk – last season’s Champions League and UEFA Cup winners respectively – square off in Monaco tonight. Will Barcelona continue their form from last season or suffer a dip, as United did at the start of last season after their double act of winning the league and european cup?

Manchester United v Arsenal
Some people seem to classify Arsenal as favourites here, so maybe United will go ahead and surprise / disappoint everyone by winning again?

AC Milan v Inter Milan
The Milan derby kicks off early in the season, but you can expect pundits to declare the season over for whoever loses this one. My money is on Inter losing before kicking on to beat all comers and make a mockery of Milan ambitions come May 2010. Unless Juve get in the way…

On the second episode of the Soccerlens Podcast, Stephen Darwin is joined by the Guardian’s Scottish Football Correspondent Ewan Murray as we take a closer look at all the prevalent issues currently at the forefront of the beautiful game in Scotland.

In particular we look at the SPL’s proposal to create a new SPL2 division and whether it’s implementation will be revolutionary or just simply the Scottish First Division with a somewhat unimaginative new name.

We also talk about the prospects for the future of Scottish football, player movement (and the considerable lack of it) in and out of the country, the Team GB debate and whether Scotland are on the road to South Africa 2010.

Among the topics discussed with Ewan Murray were:

The SPL2 and how it may affect the structure of the Scottish league system

The reasons for a lack of Scottish players plying their trade abroad

What the SPL needs to do to attract more foreign players

Scotland’s chances of World Cup 2010 qualification

Team GB and why there is such a Scottish resistance

Plus more on top of that!
