Bracing For Impact: We All Need a GutCheck

Someone may want to check on Sam Shaw and Alex Silva. This Thursday, these two compete in TNA's GutCheck Tournament. The goal – to earn a spot in the upcoming Bound For Glory Series, and possibly, a shot at the World Heavyweight Title. The problem - never before has being a part of TNA required so much.

Ask AJ Styles. Here's someone who ate, breathed, and slept Total Nonstop Action for nearly ten years. From the first moment of the first show, Styles has been a loyal member of the TNA Family. But now, he's lost. Bully Ray's promise to "patch in" AJ on Thursday's Impact shows how hard it is to stand by the side of good when faced with such odds. With Aces and Eights running through the company on a regular basis, our concerns turn to worry and worry turns to despair. We all feel it. If the Phenomenal One turns his back on us, it could be the final psychological blow in a war that's been just as mental as physical.

Some people are blaming Kurt Angle for the AJ exodus. Had it not been for Kurt's heated confrontation with Styles last week, AJ's loyalty might still be assured. But the hot-headed Olympian doesn't have patience for waffling. He's always been a firm believer in firm decisions. He's been saying "ain't nobody got time for that" long before it was viral. But, at a time when diplomacy seems to the key to victory, Kurt's anger is raging. Hopefully he can harness that and use it in his match with Mr. Anderson on Thursday. If you think Angle is seething now, just imagine what he'll be like after another loss to Aces and Eights.

I'd hate to think that Hulk Hogan is blaming Kurt Angle for what happened, but who knows anymore? All Hogan wants is for TNA - and all he believes it to be - to step up and vanquish the Aces and Eights threat. It's pretty safe to assume that he wishes this problem would have been taken care of long ago. But with wrestlers being injured, vying for attention, or just running to the rafters, he doesn't know who to trust to finish the job anymore.

It all makes you thankful for Mickie James and Velvet Sky. While so much seems to be "up in the air", one thing remains constant. The Knockouts Division is on fire and these two women deserve nothing but praise. On this week's Impact, it's time for the match we've been waiting for as Velvet defends her Knockouts Championship against former champ James. Whichever side you're on, one thing is certain. This is a bout you'll want to see. Sometimes mutual respect and admiration can bring out the best in someone far more than violence and aggression.

…and sometimes it doesn't. That's why Sting isn't taking any chances. Our World Champion Bully Ray doesn't shake hands. He breaks hands. Heading towards his title defense against the Stinger on June 2nd's Slammiversary, Bully's match strategy is obvious. He's looking to end things early. How early? About ten days. Sting better watch his back. I can't imagine a world where Aces and Eights let him get to Slammiversary without some sort of beating.

So please. Call Alex Silva. Call Sam Shaw. Explain to them that a TNA GutCheck Challenge means more today than it ever has before. Heck, call Suicide. The masked star returns to Impact too, but it's not the Impact he may remember. All I'm saying is that it's a different world now. You're either TNA or you're not. It's time we all stand up and take a real GutCheck. Decide now if you can handle it. We don't have any more time for maybes.

On Wednesday Olympic Gold Medalist, multi-time World Heavyweight Champion and TNA IMPACT WRESTLING superstar Kurt Angle attended "The Rumble On The Rails" - USA vs. IRAN vs. RUSSIA - at Grand Central Terminal in New York City. The event aired on NBC Sports Network, and Angle was shown in attendance during ESPN coverage.

Three of the world’s top powers came together in solidarity in this historic wrestling event. Each year, the United States, Iran and Russia are among the world’s best wrestling nations. Since the IOC Executive Board recommendation that wrestling not be a core sport at the 2020 Olympic Games, these three nations have worked closely together to help support Olympic wrestling.

TNA's Television Production team was on hand to film Kurt's involvement at the historic competition. We will post exclusive footage soon on the website!

Bracing For Impact: What You Wish

My grandpa would always tell me to be careful what I wished for because I might just get it. This piece of grandfatherly advice usually followed an unpleasant experience that I had set myself up for. As I threw up that last cookie he warned me to put down, Grandpa would grin and give me a pat on the head. It was infuriating. But, in honor of him, I'd like to remind Bully Ray (and a few others) to be careful what you wish for. Because they just might get it.

Bully's current plan for "tough love" as it relates to D-Lo Brown is the perfect example. Currently a loyal club member, D-Lo has been blasted both verbally and physically by his brothers and opponents these past few weeks. After choosing the "I Quit" stipulation for his match with Kurt Angle two weeks ago, D-Lo wound up on the losing end. Since then, his old friends seem ready to send him packing, even demoting him down to probationary status. If the World Champion has his way, all of this will lead to Brown regaining his killer instinct. But will the trade off for this so-called eye-of-the-tiger be the loss of his Aces and Eights loyalty? Can D-Lo continue to be treated in such a way by his "brothers" and still stay faithful to his oath? If Bully gets his wish, we'll find out...and so will he.

Kenny King is another arrogant star who would benefit from an afternoon with Grandpappy Grand. When Chris Sabin retuned from his year-long injury hiatus, his level of determination was at an all time high. He dreamed of coming back and taking the Championship he once held dear. Rather than focus on battling those seemingly difficult odds, Kenny thought it would be a better idea to publicly mock the returning star just one week ahead of their 3-Way X Division Title match with Petey Williams. The confrontation on last week's Impact seemed to awaken a sleeping giant inside Chris. Now, just as King wished, he has a challenger who would love to take his title and, if nothing else, probably wouldn't mind seeing Petey take it either. Bang up job, Kenny. Maybe next time you have a big match coming up, you could throw yourself off a building first. Wouldn't be much worse of a strategic decision than the one you made last Thursday.

Gail Kim keeps wishing for attention. Seeing the adulation and respect given to women like Mickie James and Velvet Sky in recent weeks, she's complained to anyone who will listen. Her wish comes true on this week's Impact as she squares off against Velvet. A win here could be just what she needs to right all the wrongs she claims to have suffered. But another loss for Gail could finally drive her insane. At the end of the day, she's been wishing for attention and this week, she'll get it. Whether it's good or bad attention remains to be seen.

Of course, this entire column borderlines on redundancy. Everyone I've mentioned here could have learned this lesson by watching last week's Impact. For weeks, Aces and Eights called for TNA to "man up". They chuckled as top stars like AJ Styles deserted their duties to the company. They laughed as Hulk Hogan struggled to complete Team TNA for their six-man match on Impact. They high-fived each other at the thought of taking out a partnerless Sting and Kurt Angle in one swoop. But when Abyss, who has been MIA for a full year, returned to clean house on the outlaws, no one was laughing. Their wishes had finally come true. TNA had finally "manned up". Or, more appropriately, "monstered up."

This all brings up to this upcoming Impact. Thursday night will be an interesting one for Aces and Eights. It's the first time they're finally confronted by the reality of their wish come true. The company they thought was too easy to destroy is finally ready for them. They wanted it, they got it, and something tells me they're not going to be happy.

Olympic Gold Medalist, multi-time World Heavyweight Champion and TNA IMPACT WRESTLING superstar Kurt Angle will attend "The Rumble On The Rails" - USA vs. IRAN vs. RUSSIA - on May 15 at Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

Three of the world’s top powers will come together in solidarity in this historic wrestling event, which is a showcase competition as part of World Wrestling Month, declared by the international wrestling federation (FILA).

Each year, the United States, Iran and Russia are among the world’s best wrestling nations. Since the IOC Executive Board recommendation that wrestling not be a core sport at the 2020 Olympic Games, these three nations have worked closely together to help support Olympic wrestling. Although their governments do not always agree, the wrestling leaders in these nations have a strong working relationship.

TNA's Kurt Angle joins other celebrated USA Olympians attending the event including Dan Gable, Bruce Baumgartner, John Smith, Tom Brand and Rulon Gardner.

Thursday's IMPACT WRESTLING broadcast aired LIVE from Tupelo, Mississippi!

- The event kicked off with Sting and Kurt Angle coming to the ring, demanding an answer from AJ Styles! AJ came out, but refused to answer. Angle got in AJ's face, but Styles left, further angering the Olympian. Angle and Styles brawled on the entrance ramp, while the Aces and Eights came out and attacked Sting! Afterwards, TNA cameras caught AJ leaving the building - he still wouldn't answer!

- In Knockouts Tag Team action, Knockouts Champion Velvet Sky - still bothered by her knee injury - and Mickie James defeated Gail KIm and Tara! After the bout, Gail wasn't happy about the loss and attacked Tara!

- Later, the Aces and Eights hit the ring, with Bully Ray addressing the situation with AJ, wondering who would join Sting and Kurt Angle! Then he turned his attention to D'Lo Brown and how he let the club down last week! Bully ordered D'Lo to remove his gang colors, but D'Lo refused. D'Lo told them he had a match with Magnus and he would make it up to them - but Bully Ray told D'Lo to be the timekeeper while D.O.C battled Magnus instead!

- Magnus defeated D.O.C. by pinfall, after interference by D'Lo Brown backfired on D.O.C! D'Lo went to hook Magnus' leg, but held D.O.C.'s instead, costing him the match! Later, Bully Ray and the rest of the Aces were about to annihilate D'Lo in their clubhouse, but Anderson stepped in and told them to give D'Lo a job he could handle - getting their beer! D'Lo was informed he was demoted to a prospect and Bully Ray kicked him out of the clubhouse!

- Prior to the big tag team match, both teams of Christopher Daniels and Kazarian (Bad Influence) and Austin Aries and Bobby Roode tried to get on the good side of special referee James Storm, but "The Cowboy" wasn't having any of it! Unfortunately for both teams, the match was thrown out after Storm left the ring, but not before hitting a Superkick on both Daniels and Aries!

- A special video aired announcing that the masked superstar Suicide was returning soon!

- Back in the ring, X Division Champion Kenny King brought out Chris Sabin - and pretended to welcome Sabin back from his injury! King asked Sabin to hold his title, then told him that would be the closest he would ever get to it! Sabin promised to regain the championship next week, tossed the title back to King, then smashed him in the mouth! King ducked out of the ring before Sabin could do more damage to the champion.

- In the main event, after the Aces seemingly attacked all their possible partners, Sting and Kurt Angle went to battle alone in a handicap match against World Champion Bully Ray, Devon and Mr. Anderson! During the bout, cameras cut to the back, where the rest of the Aces were shown beaten and battered by an unknown attacker! Back in the ring, the Aces took advantage of the 3-on-2, wearing Angle down. Angle eventually tagged in Sting who cleaned house on the Aces and had Bully Ray in the Scorpion Deathlock, but the Aces once again took control! As they beat down Sting and Angle, Devon brought in the wooden Table for the 3D, but before they could….ABYSS MADE HIS SURPRISE RETURN!!! The Monster hit the ring and annihilated Bully Ray, Devon and Anderson, chokeslamming Anderson through the table and hitting the Black Hole Slam on Devon for the pin and win! ABYSS IS BACK!

Every great war has a turning point. There's always one battle that lets the dominant side know change is coming. With just one momentum turning moment, the underdogs make it known that they're about fight back. Last Thursday's Impact was that turning point. And this Thursday's Impact is the dawn of a new day for TNA.

This momentum shift was pretty obvious in Kurt Angle's Impact appearance. After weeks of defeats from Aces and Eights, Angle had had enough. He not only challenged any member of the group willing to step up, but allowed them to pick their own stipulation. After forcing D’Lo Brown to submit in their "I Quit Match", Kurt stood victorious. Aces and Eights, perhaps sensing the winds of change, backed off without incident. This allowed Angle, with a fresh sense of confidence, to call out AJ Styles and give him the final ultimatum that we've been waiting for. On the next Impact, when Devon, Bully Ray, and Mr. Anderson square off against Sting and Kurt, there's a vacant spot waiting for the Phenomenal One on their team. Will he take it? Will he not? No matter what happens, this Thursday, he chooses his side. No more brooding. No more silence. Styles either joins Team TNA for the six-man bout against Bully Ray's army or he's officially on the outs. Seeing how TNA is finally gaining momentum, this was the time to make this demand. The choice is not so clear cut for AJ as it might have been a few weeks ago.

TNA's sudden influx of heroes to help their cause has allowed others to renew focus on what's important. No longer preoccupied with AJ's choice, Bad Influence is finally back in the tag team hunt. Christopher Daniels and Kazarian face off with Bobby Roode and Austin Aries to determine the next challengers to Tag Team Champions, Hernandez and Chavo Guerrero. In an effort to illustrate TNA's return to order, “Cowboy” James Storm was named the special guest referee. Will Storm's past issues with Roode, who just bragged on Thursday about once cracking a beer bottle over James's head, play a role in his officiating? Will he show bias or do what's right for Impact Wrestling and call the match down the middle? While fans would love to see a clean cut contest, no one would blame Storm for harboring some resentment. The selection of the Cowboy as ref may not be the luckiest choice for Double A and Bobby. But, as the saying goes, "Sorry about your damn luck."

The most exciting example of TNA's resurgence was Sting's epic battle with Matt Morgan to determine the challenger to Bully Ray at Slammiversary. In the end, the Stinger emerged victorious. But having a star with Matt Morgan's talent waiting and willing to defend Impact Wrestling can only be a positive…right? His skills and size are second to none. His attitude, though, might leave some a little bit worried.

Above all else, one thing is certain. Up until now, this battle has been Aces and Eights versus Hulk Hogan. But, as of Thursday, that all changed. This is a new day for Impact Wrestling. We know it and, most importantly, Aces and Eight know it. We've always had the values. We've always had the desire. But, as of Thursday, we finally have what we've needed the most this whole time – hope that the war can be won.

- Hulk Hogan kicked off the broadcast, calling out Sting to apologize to him and shake his hand over what has happened involving the Aces and Eights. Sting asked Hulk permission to put together a team to battle the Aces next week, which was made official! When Hogan brought up the next contender for the World Title Matt Morgan came out to demand it. Instead, Hogan made Sting vs. Matt Morgan for later, with the winner getting the shot!

- Chris Sabin made his triumphant return to TNA, winning a three-way X Division match against Sonjay Dutt and Zema Ion, after hitting the Cradle Shock on Ion for the win!

- In a handicap match, Rob Terry defeated Robbie E, Jessie Goderz and Joey Ryan after Terry pinned Ryan after his Beast Bomb finisher.

- It was announced that next week, Austin Aries and Bobby Roode will face Christopher Daniels and Kazarian (Bad Influence) to determine the number-one contenders, with "Cowboy" James Storm as special referee!

- D'Lo Brown of the Aces and Eights answered the open challenge by Kurt Angle, and wanted it to be an I Quit match! D'Lo put up a fight, but in the end he was no match for Angle's suplexes and was forced to tap to the Angle Lock submission! As D'Lo was beaten, his fellow Aces members - led by Mr. Anderson - left the ringside area. After the match, Angle called out AJ Styles and asked him to join Angle and Sting next week against the Aces. AJ still wouldn't answer!

- In Knockouts tag team action, Mickie James and Taryn Terrell beat Gail Kim and Tara after Terrell rolled up Tara for the pin and win! After the match, Gail snapped on Taryn and tired to injure her - smashing her face in the mat and putting her in a figure-four against the ringpost!

- In the IMPACT main event, "The Icon" Sting defeated "The Blueprint" Matt Morgan with the Scorpion Deathlock finisher to earn a shot at the World Title against Bully Ray at Slammiversary! Morgan passed out due to the pain, resulting in the referee awarding the bout to Sting! After the bout, World Champion Bully Ray and the Aces and Eights hit the arena to talk trash to Sting!

- The broadcast kicked off with a recap of the events last week, including the Aces and Eights injuring TNA's top stars!

- "Cowboy" James Storm coming out to address his match with AJ Styles last week - and AJ was present in the crowd! Storm dared the Aces and Eights to come out and fight him, but he was intruppted by Bad Influence, who told AJ they still wanted to reunite with him, even talking about their days in Fortune! Storm tried to shut them up and went after them, but Kaz kicked Storm with a low blow after a 2-on-1 advantage. The Aces then came out and beat down Storm - while AJ watched and did nothing! Joseph Park tried to help, but he got annihilated as well when Bully Ray and Devon hit a 3D on Park through a table! After the attack, Bully Ray got on the mic and reminded Hulk Hogan of his challenge - and that there were no more heroes left in TNA!

- World Tag Team Champions Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez defeated Bobby Roode and Austin Aries to retain the titles after interference by Daniels and Kazarian backfired on the challengers.

- Matt Morgan came out and talked about all the wrong decisions he felt Hulk Hogan has made recently, and called out The Hulkster! Morgan told Hogan he would offer his services against the Aces and Eights, but for a price - a World Title shot! Morgan told Hogan that TNA needs Morgan more than ever - HE is their knight in shining armor! Hogan got angry at Morgan for being selfish, telling him he didn't need Morgan's help and he would face the Aces alone! Hogan dropped the mic and left Morgan in the ring!

- In the Knockouts Title match, with ODB as special referee, Velvet Sky defeated Mickie James to retain the title! Velvet's injured knee nearly cost her the match, and ODB made Mickie back off, but it gave Velvet an opportunity to roll up James for the pin as Velvet barely pulled out the win!

- In their face-to-face confrontation, Hulk Hogan (in his red and yellow) prepared for a fight alone against Bully Ray and The Aces and Eights! Bully Ray got on the mic and lashed into Hogan, reminding him he's lost all his allies and asked him how his repaired knee was doing - but Hogan returned fire and told Bully he could never destroy Hulkamania! Just as the gang was about to attack Hogan, the lights went out and "The Icon" Sting appeared in the ring to back up The Hulkster! Sting knocked off Bully's hat with his black bat, then Sting began to clear house! The broadcast ended with Sting and Hogan chasing off the Aces - but Sting pointed his bat at Hogan and left the ring without saying anything to Hulk!

IMPACT WRESTLING’s General Manager and Tampa‘s own Hulk Hogan welcomed IMPACT WRESTLING’s superstar Magnus, USF’s newest head football coach Willie Taggart and the General Manager of the USF Sun Dome Trent Merritt to his restaurant, Hogan’s Beach, for today’s announcement.

“I’m thrilled to help bring IMPACT WRESTLING to my home town,” said Hogan. “You’re going to see the very best in wrestling, right here in Tampa.”

During the announcement, Hogan presented Taggart with a replica championship belt. Upon receiving the championship belt, Taggart said “It has taken me only 27 years to finally meet my childhood hero, and now I get a personal welcome and championship belt from someone that I have watched since I was a child.” He continued, “I did a lot of push-ups but never got as thick as he did. Still trying. #DOSOMETHING!”

Bracing For Impact: The Order and The Chaos

For the past few months, TNA Wrestling has been overrun with chaos. Violence and uncertainty have replaced law and order. None of this is by accident. It's all because one man wants it that way and, if that's the way he wants it, that's the way he gets it.

When World Heavyweight Champion Bully Ray married Knockout executive Brooke Hogan in January, many assumed it was a case of opposites attracting. Bully's love of chaos seemed to compliment Brooke's love of order. The two felt like a loving yin and yang, created to be together. But, as we all should have known then, nothing about Bully is "loving". His true nature is right in his name. He's a bully. When he turned his back on TNA for Aces and Eights, we had no one to blame but ourselves. He never claimed to be a hero. We were the ones who made that claim despite knowing better.

Bully Ray's Aces and Eights Presidential revelation could have happened right after the group arrived. But he chose to pretend to be against them for weeks. Why? Chaos. With constant questions about who was pulling the Aces and Eights’ strings, it left the roster with a sense of uncertainty. Fans were worried they might be applauding a secret villain. That's why he did it. And that's why he's doing it again with AJ Styles.

The courtship of AJ Style is a perfect example of this sick game plan. For the past few weeks, Aces and Eights have been praising the Four-Time World Champion. Styles is more than a TNA Original. He's the TNA original. Having wrestled in the first match on the first-ever TNA event, he represents TNA's heart and soul. There have been no ultimatums or threats. The Aces simply gave him an offer and sat back. Since this passive invitation, TNA has been in an upheaval. It has caused James Storm, Hulk Hogan, and others to question the loyalties of the Phenomenal One. Not only has it bred resentment from AJ, but it sent paranoia across the locker room. Will he? Won't he? No one knows. But, to be honest, no matter what side Styles chooses, Aces and Eights have already won. Just look around. The uncertainty is driving everyone crazy.

Look at what it's done to Christopher Daniels and Kazarian, the tag team of “Bad Influence.” They've been obsessed with AJ's decision. Bobby Roode and Austin Aries have capitalized on the lack of focus, allowing them to push Kaz and Daniels down the ladder and challenge for the Tag Team Titles against Hernandez and Chavo Guerrero on Thursday's Impact. The chaos running rampant indirectly claims more than "just another victim". It claims another two.

Throughout it all, Brooke Hogan has still tried to keep the order she holds so dear. With Rome burning around her, Brooke still managed to oversee the creation of the new TNA Knockouts website for its debut on Thursday. She also put together a #1 Contender Match for the Knockouts Title between Miss Tessmacher and Mickie James. In a world of chaos, Brooke put a championship bout together the old-fashioned way. When Mickie, eager to remind the world of her place in wrestling, came out victorious, it was the first sense of order Brooke has had in a while. This Thursday, when James challenges the returning Velvet Sky, one has to think that Brooke will be smiling. She'll finally some sanity in a wrestling world gone mad.

Unfortunately, Brooke Hogan's smiles don't last too long anymore because she still remains the captive wife of Bully Ray. The order and chaos are still intertwined and no one can help. Attorney Joseph Parks attempted to get the marriage annulled. Instead, much like Magnus and Samoa Joe, he was pummeled by the A&8's Sergeant at Arms, Devon. It's as if the whole company is being held hostage and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

That's why Thursday is so important. Bully Ray, has called out the father who taught Brooke about "order", Hulk Hogan. As a longtime wrestling fan, Bully has been living for this moment. Hulk is the quintessential iconic wrestling hero. Tormenting him in the most personal of ways and then confronting him in the ring is something only a true villain would do. As we all now know, that's who Bully Ray is. He's the meanest dog in the yard and he's always happy to prove it. What better way to show the world how bad you truly are than against the biggest hero in wrestling history?

With everything upside down in TNA, there's one major question everyone is wondering. What does Bully Ray have planned for Hulk Hogan when the two come face to face on Thursday? The answer, like nearly every step that Aces and Eights have taken, is that we simply don't know.

And that's the scariest part.

- To open the event, Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez defeated Bobby Roode and Austin Aries to become the NEW World Tag Team Champions, after Chavo hit a frog splash on Roode for the win!

- Joseph Park tried to present a marriage annulment for Brooke Hogan and Bully Ray to Devon of The Aces and Eights, but Devon ripped it up, attacked Park and told him to stay out of the Aces family business!

- After Adam Pearce was eliminated earlier in the broadcast, fellow Gut Check participant Magno finally faced the judges. Unfortunately for Magno, the judges passed on the newcomer. As a result, no one advanced to win this month's Gut Check.

- In the main event of the broadcast, Bully Ray retained the World Heavyweight Championship after beating Jeff Hardy in a chaotic Full Metal Mayhem match! With Bully's wife Brooke Hogan sitting ringside, it was an all-out war between Bully and Hardy! At one point, Brooke slapped Bully at ringside. Hardy nearly had Bully beat after hitting a huge Swanton through a table on the outside, but Taz turned the momentum when he handed Bully Ray the hammer from the ringside bell keeper! With Bully and Hardy battling at the top of the ladder, Bully nailed Hardy with the hammer to send him falling from the ladder through a table - allowing Bully Ray to win the match and retain the championship! As the broadcast ended, the rest of the Aces and Eights joined Bully Ray in celebrating his win!

1. The Aces Continue Ripping At The Heart And Soul Of TNA: Say what you will about the members of Aces & Eights, they're not going to back down from a confrontation. Not in the form of a Team TNA consisting of Kurt Angle, Magnus, Samoa Joe, Eric Young and the eager newcomer Joseph Park. The A&8 took on said team in a 10-man tag match and prevailed, showing their ongoing willingness to take a beating in order to get what they want, be it victory or control. And certainly not in the form of World Champion Bully Ray's wife Brooke Hogan, who the champ called out to present an envelope, which Brooke assumed to be divorce papers. Instead, it was a front-row ticket to next week's IMPACT LIVE in Corpus Christi, Texas, where the Bully will take on Jeff Hardy in a Full Metal Mayhem match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Will Bully Ray's "good luck charm" show up ringside in South Texas? We doubt it after that slap.

2. She Doth Protest...Not At All: What is it with Gail Kim and putting her hands on TNA officials? We all know her physical run-ins with Taryn Terrell, the ones that resulted in the blonde bombshell being fired from her job as Knockouts official (and her subsequent addition to the Knockouts competitive roster.) Now we see Kim taking a similar, yet completely different, tack with Joey Ryan, who offered Knockouts exec Brooke Hogan his services (hopefully temporarily) as an official for the Knockout matches. Ryan ruled the ring with quite the studied inefficiency during the Knockouts tag match between Kim and Tara vs. Terrell and Velvet Sky, his hand touching the match only for a very speedy three count that gave Kim's team the win. Not that Kim had one bad thing to say about this particular ref's tactics. Funny, that.

3. Do They Have What It Takes? The debut of Gut Check on the road brought two well-traveled veterans -- "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce and the lanky luchador Magno --out in front of the IMPACT bright lights and television cameras. Both men, each experienced in their own ways, had their powerful moments and their less-than-crisp moments. Next week in Corpus Christi, one will be eliminated and the other go on to face the Gut Check judges with an opportunity for a TNA contract on the line. At this point, we can honestly say it's a toss-up.

4. Which Side Will AJ Choose? The ongoing recruitment of, matched with an equal silence from, AJ Styles continues to befuddle the IMPACT audience. Aces & Eights loudmouth Mr. Anderson offered AJ a customized A&8s cut, ready to have The Phenomenal One join their ranks. Meanwhile, after IMPACT GM Hulk Hogan called Styles out to the ring for an answer, it was James Storm's interruption (not to mention not-so-veiled threat that "You better clock out before you get knocked out") that forestalled Styles' response. Could Hogan and Storm's insistence on an answer be the thing that tips Styles' scales toward TNA...or toward the renegade gang bent on TNA's destruction?

In other news coming out of Jonesboro:
-- The contract signing for the Tag Team Championship match next week between "the team of World Champions" Austin Aries and Bobby Roode, and Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Hernandez took on a new dimension. Despite the seeming hesitation of Super Mex, the challengers agreed to the new stipulation of a 2-out-of-3-falls match.
-- The flip side of the evolution of the X-Division, the new Qualifying Match, featured Sonjay Dutt (the man who took the pin in the most recent X-Division Championship Match) taking on Mason Andrews and the returning Petey Williams, who hadn't been seen in TNA in more than four years. In typical "quick as a hiccup" action, Williams' genuinely scary looking Canadian Destroyer sealed the deal on Andrews, after Andrews had dispatched Dutt with a high-impact flying knee. Williams goes on to face Zema Ion and the reigning X-Division Champ Kenny King at the next championship opportunity.

“The city of Tupelo is excited to welcome IMPACT WRESTLING to the BancorpSouth Arena,” said Mayor Reed, who was presented with a replica edition of the TNA World Heavyweight Championship title belt. “Wrestling has a long and storied past in Tupelo, and we’re thrilled to add a new chapter to that history on May 9.”
