Check out all the yummy delights we were served during the Davao Food Appreciation Tour 2013: Greenwich Ultimate Overloaded Dinner.
Let’s start with some appetizers.
And let’s move forward with their Ultimate and Overloaded Pizzas.
How about one of my favorite fastfood pasta dishes?
Shall we end the night with some cruchy, juicy, tasty fried chicken?
By the time the chicken was served, we were all full but I had to eat at least one piece.
Greenwich doesn’t just invest in introducing new products but continually works on improving their current offerings. I have been eating Greenwich dishes since they opened a branch in Davao City sometime when I was in high school and I’m happy to note they keep getting better.
I highly recommend the Greenwich Pizza Fries, the Greenwich All Meat and Cheese Overload Pizza, Greenwich Lasagna Supreme, and the Greenwich Fried Chicken.
For a quick bite of your favorite pizza and pasta dishes, Greenwich is definitely the place to go to.

“Maki” is a type of sushi. It is a cylindrical piece composed of rice with meat, vegetables, or fruits, usually wrapped in nori (seaweed) and covered in sesame seeds or fish roe.
Crazy Maki by Tsuru Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar is made sushi rice with kani (crabmeat) sticks and Japanese mayo, wrapped in nori. It is covered in tenkasu (fried tempura batter bits) and topped with more kani.
The fluffy sushi rice and soft kani contrasts well wth the tenkasu and the nori wraps everything well with umami flavor. The umami cuts through the somewhat bland flavors of the rice, kani, and tenkasu. Plus, the Japanese mayo adds a bit more flavor. Everything is flavored delicately so every bite is just right.
Whether you’re a sushi lover or a sushi newbie, the Crazy Maki is definitely a great way to start your Japanese meal. Or to snack on.
Crazy Maki is available at Tsuru Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar at their branches along Camus Street, at Abreeza Ayala Mall, and at Damosa Gateway.

My friend Kym and I weren’t even supposed to eat there but the restaurant we had planned to go to had transferred to a different location, so we decided to try out La Vetta. And I am happy that we did.
La Vetta has a cozy, quiet ambiance perfect for intimate meals. They serve French, Italian, Mediterranean, and other European dishes. Their dishes might seem bit pricey but every peso you spend here is definitely worth it.
I ordered the Pasta Al Salmone because I am a fan of both pasta and of salmon. I didn’t have high expectations for this dish, though, because it was served with a cream sauce, which is my least favorite kind of pasta sauce. But… surprise, surprise, the cream sauce was not thick or heavy. It gave just the right amount of body and creaminess to the al dente pasta. And the smokey grilled salmon complemented the creamy pasta well. I drizzled the dish with the lemon wedge it was served with to give it a bit of acid. It was perfect for me. The only thing that could have made it better was if I had some white wine with it.
The pasta dish made me full but I promised myself that I would try one of La Vetta’s desserts and I didn’t hold back.
I ordered the Double Chocolate Cake. It was chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate ganache frosting. Needless to say, the cake was sinfully decadent. The cake was moist and rich and the ganache was just as rich but not too thick. It was an overwhelming experience. It was definitely a delight but it was too much for one person. I’m glad I shared it with Kym and her friends.
I also got to try Kym’s Banana Bread Pudding and it was yuuuuummy. It was rich, moist, creamy, and fruity all at once. That’s a recipe I’d want to replicate.
My La Vetta experience was definitely one to remember and I promised myself I’d go back there soon. I want to try more of their dishes, maybe a glass of wine or two with some of their cheeses and antipasti. I am excited to fulfilling that promise soon.
If you’re looking for delicious French Mediterranean food at cozy, intimate setting in Cagayan de Oro City, La Vetta is the place you’re looking for.
La Vetta Restaurant and Wine Bar is located at the Rosario Strip of the Limketkai Center in Cagayan de Oro City. They are open Sundays to Thursdays from 11:30 am to 12:00 am and Fridays to Saturdays from 11:30 am to 1:00 am.

I began my Yakimix adventure with a whole lot of Salmon Sashimi and an assortment of other sushi, sashimi, and maki. Let’s just say, the amount of Salmon Sashimi I consumed was more than enough to cover the amount I was going to pay for the entire buffet. LOL!
There was a wide variety of sushi, sashimi, and maki… Salmon, Tuna, Tamago, Soft Shell Crabs, Prawns, California Maki, Crunchy RollS (as in a variety of Crunchy Rolls, Spicy Rolls, and even nouveau maki rolls like the Hawaiian Maki Roll. To be honest, I was not paying attention to the names. I got the ones I wanted and just ate them all up. Obviously, I ate a whole lot of Salmon Maki Rollssssss.
There was also a salad bar, a row of soups, and a whole bunch of Asian dishes which I ignored because I totally went for these…
Various seafoods, meats, and even vegetables prepared and seasoned for grilling. But this was no ordinary meat line up. There were several cuts of each kind and each cut was prepared several ways. Check out these bacon strips prepared in three different ways.
My favorite preparations were plain (without any seasoning), black pepper, and with Bulgogi sauce. There’s also a seasoning and condiments section where you can choose and concoct your own sauces and marinates. After selecting and preparing your meats, they get the grill hot and ready for you.
My favorites are the juicy fresh prawns which were so sweet even with just some salt as seasoning. Another favorite of mine was the Black Pepper meats… Black Pepper Bacon, Black Pepper Pork belly, Black Pepper Chicken, etc. Every cut of meat was prepared in cuts that was easy to cook and manageable to eat.
My ultimate favorite meat for grilling is the US Angus Beef in Bulgogi Sauce. So tender, tasty, and wonderfully delicious. LOOK AT THAT CUT!
After it’s grilled there’s a delicious caramelization on the meat and some smokiness that makes it’s deliciously addicting. I ate more than my fair share of it. And yes, everytime I went back to the buffet table, there was US Angus Beef. Even if the restaurant was fully packed that time.
Unfortunately, I had an appointment and had to leave. Good thing I was able to finish my meal with my own crepe from the Crepe Station. You can choose your own fillings, syrup, ice cream, and toppings to be served with your crepe.
Aside from the Crepe Station, there was a selection of cakes, lots of Pana Cottas and other chilled spoon desserts, plus a Halo-Halo Station and an Ice Cream Chiller from which you can get ice cream and ice cream bars. Plus, there’s lots of candies for the kids.
And did I mention there was overflowing soda, juices, and iced tea?
I got to enjoy all of these for the super sulit price of only P388. UHMAZING! And I’m uber excited that Yakimix is opening a branch in Davao City this weekend. Will try that one out later and will definitely share my experience with you.
In General Santos City, Yakimix is located at Veranza Mall. They are open from 11:30 am – 3 pm for lunch and from 6 pm – 9 pm for dinner. Their buffet is at P388 for lunch on weekdays and P488 for dinner time on weekdays and on weekends and holidays. Best to go there 11:30 am for lunch time on a weekday.
The Davao City branch will be opening at the Second Floor of Abreeza Ayala Mall beginning October 6, 2013.

Army+Navy Burger Burrito serves burgers, burritos, sandwiches, chicken, french fries, soda, iced tea and milkshakes. All within the fastfood price range. Their service is however, not quite as fast. But the wait is definitely worth it. No stale fries, no undercooked or cold chicken, and definitely no unattractive or smooshed burgers or sandwiches here. Everything is pretty, well prepared, and hot.
My favorites are the Fearless Chicken, the Burger, the Freedom Fries, and the LiberTea.
The Fearless Chicken has a crispy, savory skin that’s not overly battered. The meat is tender, juicy, and tasty. And the pepper gravy is just perfect. Thinking about it makes me salivate. The serving size is not too much, just enough to satisfy your tummy for lunch or dinner. Or maybe as a heavy snack. All for the price of P175.
The Army+Navy Burger is simple… quarter pound patty + lettuce + tomato + onions + mayonaisse + kechup on a Toasted Sesame Seed Kaiser Bun. I like my burger without the onions and with cheese and bacon. Plus, some mustard. Yum! The burger costs P165. A slice of cheese and a bacon is P30 each.
Whether I’m eating chicken or a burger I can’t resist ordering some Freedom Fries and LiberTea. The Freedom Fries are cut thinly. It is crisp and savory. Perfect when dipped in ketchup. One heaping serving costs P75.
Their freshly brewed LiberTea is sweet and tangy with a hint of earthiness. Perfect to balance out all the savory delights you’ve had. A regular sized LiberTea costs P65 and a large cup costs P75.
Eating at Army+Navy Burger Burrito may not be too fast or cheap. But the amount of serving and the quality of food you get is definitely worth every peso spent and every minute of waiting.
In Davao City, Army+Navy Burger Burrito is located at the Restaurant Row at the Ground Floor of Abreeza Ayala Mall. For updates, like their page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/ARMY-NAVY-Burger-Burrito/151192484926886.]]>
The cookware set includes the following:
All of the pieces of the has an aluminum base and body with a non-stick coating. The handles are made of anti-thermal bakelite and the lids are made of tempered glass with stainless steel trimming and nylon knobs.
This Tramontina Cookware Set makes my cooking sessions easier because the heat distributes evenly even if my stove has several hot spots. And the non-stick surface gives me assurance that I don’t have to be overly careful that my dishes will burn.
I love cooking stews and sauces and the Tramontina Versalhes’ casseroles and sauce pans make the cooking experience worry-free. I don’t worry that my sauce will burn or have a burnt crust. And the stew or sauce always cooks at an even temperature and rate even if there are lots of meat or ingredients in it.
The frying pans are also great for frying meats and stir frying dishes. My meats don’t get burned. And butter, which I use for most dishes, don’t get burned. Even the marinades don’t become bitter due to high eat. Everything fries or caramelizes just fine.
Another good thing about using this Tramontina Cookware Set is how easy it is to clean and wash. And because there are 7 cookware pieces, I don’t have to wash a pan or casserole just so I can cook my next dish. I can cook multiple dishes or sauces at the same time.
Remember when using the Tramontina Versalhes pans, pots, and casseroles, always use with nylon, plastic, or wooden utensils. This will prevent the scratching of the non-stick materials.
These cookware items are safe to washing in the dishwasher. But in case your, washing by hand, use a soft sponge and just a bit of dishwashing liquid. The oils and other scraps will slide off easily the non stick surface. Dry pieces completely before storing.
The Tramontina Versalhes 7 Piece Cookware Set is available via Lazada.com.ph at this link for only PhP4,250. It can be bought with cash on delivery and other online payment options. Installment through a BDO Credit Card is also available for only PhP268.47. Shipping for this item is free.

Chloe’s Cheesecakes also have bigger Cheesecake Cups at 3 ounces each, available at P300 for 6 pieces.

YuYu Cafe is a homegrown establishment that is best know for their desserts. That Chocolate Praline looks yummy, yes? It tastes even better than it looks. Believe me.
But wait… before you try out their desserts, order from their menu of salads, pasta, pizza, and rice meals. For a light meal or snack option, try the Caprese Salad.
It is a delicious salad of fresh greens, olives and the unbeatable trio of mozarella cheese, tomatoes, and basil. All fresh and fashionably healthy, dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette.
Their best-selling pasta dish, I am told, is the Pasta Al Telefono.
I ordered this dish because I was told by my cousin to do so and I didn’t regret it. The pasta was al dente and the sauce was tomato-based with what I assume to be cheese. I Googled it. Al Telefono means “with mozarella cheese.” I’m a fan of tomatoes and cheese (as evidenced by my fondness for the Caprese Salad), so I loved the deceivingly simple Pasta Al Telefono of YuYu Cafe.
My cousin also let me have a bite of her Balsamic Glazed Chicken. Tender and superbly tasty. If you’re looking for a different kind of chicken dish, order Yuyu Cafe’s Balsamic Glazed Chicken.
And then came the desserts…
I’m always glad when I’m eating with my cousins because we always order one of every kind we’d love to try. My favorite among the three we tried out is the Chocolate Praline. It is rich, moist, and decadent with yummy bits of caramel. Definitely, a must-try for chocolate lovers.
I’m looking forward to my next Tagum trip to try out Yuyu Cafe’s pizzas and other desserts.
Whether you’re in Tagum City for business or pleasure, or maybe just dropping by, do visit YuYu Cafe and Dessert Shop. They also have some pastries for pasalubong.
YuYu Cafe is located along the National Highway, beside Jollibee, in Tagum City, Davao del Norte. You may contact them at +6384-6556731. Nonki’s Sukiyaki Set is perfect for sharing for two person. Or for one very hungry diner. It is composed of one full Sukiyaki dish plus this one…
Yup, that’s an entire platter of assorted sushi: Salmon, Tuna, White Marlin, and Yellowtail Sushi. The Sushi Platter is, of course, served before the Sukiyaki. The fresh, succulent sushi pieces is the perfect way to start the meal.
It is then followed by a delicious, hearty bowl of Sukiyaki full to the brim with tender beef strips, noodles, vegetables, mushrooms, and tofu. All in a tasty soup thickened with raw egg.
The fresh sushi balances well with the salty, sweet Sukiyaki.
Makes you want to eat some Japanese food right now, yes? It makes me salivate.
The best part about this is the price, P450. Delicious meal at an affordable price. Sushi + Sukiyaki for only P450. Got order one for yourself.
Nonki Japanese Restaurant is located along F. Torres Street, Davao City.

I’ve been to the Sea Green Cafe and Lifestyle Shop several times and it’s currently one of my favorite restaurants. My favorite is their Thai Fish Cakes with Cilantro Brown Rice.
The fish cakes are made of white marlin fillet seasoned with cilantro, chili, and other fresh herbs and spices. The fish cakes are seasoned well without the taste being too overpowering. It is coated lightly with breadcrumbs and fried perfectly with the fish fillet still moist. And it’s not too oily, either. It’s so good you won’t notice you’re eating something healthy.
The Thai Fish Cakes are served with a sweet dipping sauce which I haven’t quite figured out what it’s made of yet. While the fish cakes are great on its own, the dipping sauce add another flavor to the dish which makes it more interesting. The sauce perfectly complements the herby taste of the fish cakes.
The Thai Fish Cakes comes with a heap of Cilantro Brown Rice.
Sea Green serves its rice meals with organic brown or black rice. Brown Rice makes the Thai Fish Cakes meal more satisfying. The brown rice has a mild nutty flavor and a bit of bite which I like. The brown rice is seasoned with some cilantro which mimics the taste of the fish cakes. Cilantro has a mild taste so the cilantro in the fish cakes and the cilantro in the rice doesn’t overwhelm.
This dish is satisfying, with a great combination of flavors. The Thai Fish Cakes, the dipping sauce, and the Cilantro Brown Rice all complement each other resulting in a meal that would satisfy your appetite, your palate, and your need eat something healthy.
Thinking about this dish makes me excited to go back to Sea Grass right away.
