October's Home with House episode is finally here. This month's mix is a loungy ride suitable for listening to while hanging around the house or perhaps when having a dinner party. It contains equal parts soulful, funky, jazzy, and deep house all while maintaining that lounging vibe. There are moments of relaxed groove, some upbeat and funky sections and a few deeper tracks to keep things interesting.

This mix is a bit unusual for the Home with House podcast series because it has broken away from the 1 or 2 hour mix target. I originally intended to make this a single hour mix but I ran over that time because I was in the flow of the mix. It also happened to fall short of the 2 hour mark because I didn't feel like shoe-horning songs in to stretch it out. So this mix is truly a result of just following the flow. This month's Home with House podcast episode is another mix focusing on the funk. Episode 22 starts off with a soulful vibe, moves into some bassy funk and then finishes off with a few big funky and vocal tracks.

Hey everyone, it's time for another Home with House podcast episode! Episode 21 is an hour long mix of deep and progressive house. It starts off relatively low key and mellow with some moody deep house containing a few hints of progressive house, and it gradually builds in momentum to end with a couple of big progressive tracks.

This mix has an uplifting and ethereal vibe to it. Many of the tracks feature simple yet pleasing piano chords and break downs which generally add to that nice ethereal feel of the mix. Something about haunting piano music, even when used minimally in house music, really appeals to me and I think it fits well with this deep vibe. This episode is called "Deep Avenue".

Every so often I feel like making an upbeat and primarily vocal DJ mix, and this month's Home with House podcast episode is just one of those times. Episode 20 is yet another two hour long mix of funky, upbeat and vocal house mixed with my usual flavour. It starts off relatively mellow and soulful and progressively builds a groove that becomes more upbeat and funky. The mix reaches a crescendo at the end with a couple of big progressive house tracks and then fades out with a vocal denouement to finish it off. As usual with my mixes, this one includes a few older tracks mixed in with mostly newer ones. There is also a tribute track to MJ with a nice unreleased remix of Billy Jean by a fellow deep house junky from South Africa named Erefaan Pearce. I've been listening to a lot of Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz CDs lately, especially volumes 4, 5 and 6. So it should be no surprise that this month's Home with House episode is strongly influenced by those mixes. This episode is still strictly house music, but it definitely has a more chilled and loungy vibe to it. I've entitled episode 19 "Just Be" because of its laissez-faire mood and relaxed energy. So I'm a big fan of jazz. I like all sorts of jazz. From smooth and soulful, to funky and jamming, all the way to deep and atmospheric, I like my jazz. I also like house music, with a similar breadth and assortment of tastes. So it should be no surprise that I love jazzy house music. You can probably hear hints of jazzy flavour throughout many of my mixes, and some are even themed around that style. This episode of the Home with House podcast definitely is.

I started putting together this mix with a late night jazz-based theme and arranged an hour of choice jazzy house tracks to mix. However, when I finished the first cut of the mix it just didn't feel right. Whether it was the overall flow, the vibe or just the short abruptness of the whole mix, something about it just left me unsatisfied. So I selected some more jazzy tracks to better fill out some of the transitions and went at it again. However something about it still just didn't feel right. So I slept on it and came back again the next day. This time I poured myself a glass of scotch and took a more fresh and spontaneous approach to the whole thing. I let the groove dictate the track selection and before I knew it I was throwing jazzy house tracks all over the place from my original tracklisting plans. The end result is much more in the real spirit of jazz and I'm finally satisfied with it. I also managed to fill out a 60 minute mix into just over two hours of jazzy goodness.

It's a new year and time for another new Home with House podcast episode. This recent cold winter weather and the fact that I've been feeling a little bit under the weather lately have put me in a chilled mood. So I've been spending a fair number of afternoons cozied up to the fire while looking out the window at the rain, wind and snow. And my latest mix reflects this relaxed temperament.

Episode 14 is deep and soulful, and captures the vibe of the type of deep house I first fell in love with about 10 or 11 years ago. Back when I listened to and played music by Blue 6 and other Naked Music artists. When I was grooving to tracks by Nick Holder, Jon Cutler and others with soulfully deep vocals and bass lines. So It seems fitting that my first podcast of the new year is something that feels both familiar with that old vibe, yet also new and fresh. Something perfect for these chilled cold afternoons. I've also included a little spike of energy during the middle of the mix just to keep things interesting.

Starting with this episode, I've decided to change up the way I do CD covers for my podcasts. I want to continue posting regular blog updates accompanied with my photos, but I want to streamline my podcast images. So I've decided to start branding the podcast better by using the Home with House logo for each podcast's CD cover instead of using my various photos. I will likely spice up the logo a bit with little themes for different episodes, but in general the graphic will be the main logo design. I hope this will save me a bit of time in preparing the podcast, and also provide a more consistent Home with House brand to identify with. It will be nice to easily identify the graphic when playing the podcast in iTunes or your iPod.

Seeing as this is the one year anniversary of the Home with House podcast and the last episode of the year, I thought I would take this chance to look back and reflect on the last 12 months. So I've gone and taken one or two tracks from every episode, some of my favourites from this past year, and mixed them together as a deep and grooving reflection - a sort of review of the Home with House podcast for 2008.

Normally I like to ensure every episode of this podcast has all new and fresh tracks. But I felt this chance to go back and pick out some of my favourite tunes and mix them in a new fashion was a fitting way to end off the year. I liked doing it so much that I think I'll do the same thing again at the end of next year to give a review of this podcast for 2009.

2008 has been a great year for this podcast. It's gone from the first episode with only 2 subscribers, to a full year's worth of episodes and a healthy subscriber base of over 80 (and that's just counting the regular podcast subscribers). I know there are more of you listening because each new episode averages over 2000 downloads in the first month it is released, and they each continue to be downloaded hundreds of times every subsequent month. So the Home with House listeners are growing and the feedback has been great. That just keeps me motivated and pumped to continue what I'm doing, so thanks for all the support! I can't wait to continue making the mixes that I love for 2009. For now I hope you enjoy episode 13, it's called "Reflections 2008".

I may have gotten ahead of myself last month. I wrote that last month's podcast would be the last one I create from my old home because I'm moving. However, I forgot that I'm not moving until the end of this month (even though I have possession of it now). Since I won't have time to unpack and put together this month's episode at the end of the month, I've created it from my old home before I move. So this episode is in fact my last from my old home. Next month's mix will be the first from my new location, and it will also be the 1 year anniversary for this podcast.

Last month's mix had a deep and contemplative theme, which acted as my farewell to my old home. This month's Home with House episode is the exact opposite. This month's Home with House episode is another attempt at reflecting my current moods. If you've been reading my blog for the last few weeks, you'll know that I've bought my first condo and will be moving to my new place in a few weeks. So this is my last podcast mix created from this location.

I've created this mix as a sort of farewell to the place where I started the Home with House podcast back in 2007. The environment and atmosphere of where a DJ mixes often have an impact on the mood, track selection and overall feel of the resulting mix. So in that sense I am sad to be leaving the place where the podcast began. But at the same time I am very excited to experience my new destination and mixing location.

You'll notice that this mix starts off deep and contemplative with some progressive house, and continuously builds in anticipation as I get excited about moving to my new place. It begins on a deeper note, but ends with a bang. I'm also delighted to be mixing a remix of an Orbital track with this episode. Orbital has been a long time favourite of mine, but this is the first time I've mixed one of their tracks with this podcast. I hope you enjoy episode 11, it's called "Deeper Groovez".
