Back by popular demand, here is a banging all vinyl mix by Naoki Takahashi (also known as DJ 2017 - Onani). Naoki and I played many parties together over the years, mainly in and around Ibaraki Prefecture in the mid 2000's, and his Tokyo Metro Mix he did for me years ago (back when the show streamed live on Pulse Radio) gained a loyal following. So happy to have him back in mix.

This was a minimal techno set set recorded live at the Burning party at Xenobar/Jamhouse, Akita Japan on October 13th 2018 (scroll down to see all gear used). I was the opening act for the night, so kept things more subdued than I normally would. Elli Arakawa was the headlining DJ for the night, and it was great fun to be part of it. Everything in my set was played live, in real time.

Tokyo Metro Vol. 27 (Live and Global Disco)

This set was played live at the Global Disco event at Jam House, Akita Japan in July 2018. Keeping with the theme of "disco," yet also being who I am, I took the mix in an electro direction (think more early 80's than 70's!) Everything was performed with an iPad Pro and Novation Launchpad. Specifically, my equipment used was:

Software:
1. Korg Gadget was used to program the bass and synth sounds in advance, tediously learning the various parts of the remixed tracks - such as the iconic bassline in Smooth Criminal (see below).
2. Blocs Wave was where all the samples were imported to and arranged.
3. Launchpad iOS was the destination of the samples after Blocs, where they could be mapped to the hardware controller and triggered. In addition to the various samples for the remixes, I loaded three full tracks (my own) to three pads and used them to fill out the set and transition between the live remixes.

This is a live set played at the party Method at Jam House, Akita Japan on March 17th, 2018. The set is completely improvised, and recorded raw. I was going for an industrial, abstract vibe for the first half, then dipping into 4/4 acid techno territory. My equipment for this set was:

Trouble Maker (303 emulator)
Elastic Drums (drum machine)
Korg Gadget (bass and synth sounds)
Audiobus (routing)
MiMiX (app mixer)
Audiobus Remote (on iphone- remote control for ipad apps)

Hardware:

Korg Nanokontrol II (midi controller linked to volume faders on Korg Gadget)
Akai Midimix (hardware knobs and sliders for Elastic Drums, Trouble Maker and filter perimeters of Korg Gadget)

This mix was a lot of fun to put together, and having an hour really allowed me to build. Elastic Drums is really the star of this show. The effects and perimeter modulation possible in that app really make it a dream to play live.

This is a short, wild romp into mashed-up disco and electro. I played this set for the event Global Disco in Akita Japan December 2nd 2017. For this set, I sliced up tracks by Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, Blondie and a few more recent tracks with a disco "vibe." All the remixed tracks were composed on ipad. Equipment and Apps used for this set:

ipad Pro (2017)
Traktor DJ for iPad (to play the tracks at the BPM I wanted)
Blocs Wave (for sampling, slicing and dicing the tracks played from Traktor)
Launchpad (for playing the sliced samples and loops live).

The party was a lot of fun, and there are plans to make it a semi-regular event at Jamhouse Akita. Looking forward to more disco mixes!
