An event that has been really irking me for the past few days has been the release of Dhoom 3 in Pakistan and the way it’s been publicized by the self-acclaimed media leader of Pakistan, GEO network, like if it’s the best thing happened to the country in recent past.

To start off with I would really like to make it clear that I have absolutely nothing against the release of Indian movies. I believe that our nation already faces some serious drought of entertainment and if something entertains them well and makes them happy no matter where it comes from, it should prevail here, obviously abiding by the necessary rules and regulation in this regard.

But what has been really infuriating me for the past one week is when I compare the publicity of Dhoom 3 with that of WAAR. I know that Dhoom 3 has been released in Pakistan under Geo Films and WAAR, (the biggest and the most successful Pakistani movie ever made) was produced by their competitor ARY Films. But still we need to have a heart big enough to support our product even without monetary benefits.

I also know that money is very important for the existence but when you proclaim yourself as the most patriotic media group of the country, when your news anchor reigns the airwaves presenting them as the rescuers of the nation with the maximum pain for the nation’s sorrows then what stops you from talking about something so successful and that too made locally; may be Just because they couldn’t strike a deal with you or the content of the movie is slightly against your ideology, you can’t talk about it.

I might have missed it but still being someone who has a close look on TV and yes GEO too, I don’t really remember even a single instant when I saw even the word ‘WAAR’ coming out of any presenter of this news channel whose motives seems to be shady. It irks me all more when I have been seeing Dhoom 3 news stories all over the channel showing it breaking all the records. Surely it must have broken them and it’s good if people are going out to watch it but it shouldn’t have hurt you to appreciate the sheer piece of brilliance by the name of WAAR.

This is certainly commercialism and duplicity at its worst by this leading media camp.

I have been very closely covering all the developments that our film industry is making in the recent past and even the future looks bright with a lot of youngsters stepping into this field. I would really like to suggest the biggest and even the most popular media group of Pakistan to re-consider its aims and ambitions and contribute towards the local industry in a real and productive way.

The Uth Oye has been created with the impulse to encourage positive sentiments that can be identified as central to healing, flourishing and the well being of oneself. When composing the song, lyricist Haider Hashmi and singer Faiza Mujahid were very keen on invoking a sense of resilience and optimism with emotional force.

The video, directed by Fatima Shah, builds on the themes of the song attempts to reflect the fearlessness required to create and inspire meaning in one’s life by showcasing three narratives struggling, if not leading, women in our society. The video reveals multiple psychological dimensions in the face of distress and establishes a connection between the present moments and the motivating resolve of each personality.

Farah Deeba, a mere 26 year old, decided to delicate her life to supporting underprivileged children and adolescents with infrastructures and means to receive wholesome education. With meager beginnings at the age of 20 and few students, she is now administering a large educational institute Alam Bibi Welfare in an independent initiative.

Sabira Sultana is a burn victim who preserved in traumatic circumstances and is now the patient coordinator at the Depilex Smileagain Foundation dedicated to rehabilitate burn victims. A source of inspiration for many women and activated the process of healing and reconciliation for many more.

As the capacities of individuals to create and inspire meaning triggers emotional and psychological responses, the video also presents the strength of women in number via a vis Pakistan’s women’s hockey team. With little or no financial aid and the stigma of women in sports, these young women defy the influential mechanisms of the media as well as hegemonic masculinity by using the power of sport as a transformative tool.

Each of these narratives triggered an emotional and psychological response from the team of Uth Oye that spiraled a series of queries into what consists an enriched human experience and the necessity to be more receptive to one’s community as well as society at large in order to sustain optimism and well being. Video is going to be released in the first week of January so stay tuned.

Every band in the world claims to be “different” but Swaras certainly is, they are always about the quality while paying attention to the details and never in a rush to release their work. So far every single of theirs is very experimental in nature especially when it comes to the aspect of world fusion.

Reportedly the band has turned down a few chances to score in Bollywood in the past but finally they found something worthy enough to try out, it is called: “Identity card – Ek Life Line, Guilty Unless Proven Innocent”. A movie in the back drop of Kashmir staring Tia Bajpai (1920 evil returns), Saurabh Shukla and Brijendra Kala and is directed by Rahat Kazmi. It is absolutely pertinent to mention that the movie is not about the conflict of Kashmir but a common person’s struggle in Kashmir as to what they go through and how an identity card is more important than the actual human. Swaras has given the music score for the trailer of this movie. Other than “Identity Card”, the band is also giving out songs to another Bollywood movie. Keep watching this space for more details.
