Irish Winner For Scat Daddy

Scat Daddy posted his sixth first crop winner when promising colt Daddy Long Legs saluted at Gowran Park in Ireland.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Daddy Long Legs was allowed to get into his stride out and then found the line strongly to win the seven furlong maiden by a length and a half.

A $100,000 purchase from the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Sale, Daddy Long Legs runs for Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Susan Magnier.

He is a half-brother to stakes-winner Tres Dream and is one of six winners from the stakes-winning Meadowlake mare Dreamy Maiden.

Scat Daddy is currently the second leading sire on the 2011 Freshman Sire List .

Above The Beyond Works Second Three Quarters Of A Mile

Above The Beyond worked his second three quarters of a mile on Saturday, covering the distance in 1:17 flat with veteran rider Vernon Bush in the saddle. The first three eighths of the workout went easily, with the duo picking up the pace as they hit the quarter pole. They finished up the last quarter of a mile strong, and galloped out past the finish line another quarter of a mile. Above The Beyond did get quite tired from his effort, drinking over half a bucket of water. He did cool out very well, though, with no signs of cramping. Vernon Bush, who was subbing for rider Angel Vasquez, was extremely pleased with the workout and commented that he would be very interested in riding Above The Beyond.

Above The Beyond will return to galloping this week and will visit the gate on Tuesday. If all goes according to plan, he will work another three quarters of a mile this Saturday.

Above The Beyond worked another solid five eighths from the gate this past Saturday morning at Suffolk Downs. Veteran jockey Angel Vasquez was once again aboard for the workout and they covered the distance in 1:03 2/5 seconds, which was third best out of six horses that worked the distance on that day. He galloped out past three quarters of a mile. The track was quite deep after three days of extremely hot and sunny weather.

Above The Beyond walked right into the gate, followed by his workmate to his right. When the gates opened, his workmate bore out badly, nearly hitting the outside rail. Although Above The Beyond did notice the antics of his workmate, he kept is mind on the business at hand. His first three eighths was recorded at an easy and steady pace. As he passed the three eighths pole, Mr. Vasquez asked Above The Beyond to pick up the pace. With a sixteenth of a mile remaining, a loose horse near the finish line caught both horse and rider's attention. The workout was completed without incident, although the final sixteenth of a mile could have been travelled a bit quicker.

Above The Beyond cooled out in good order and has since returned to training. If all goes according to plan, he will work three quarters of a mile this Saturday.

Above The Beyond Works Five Eighths From The Gate

Above The Beyond worked a solid five eighths from the gate this past Saturday morning at Suffolk Downs. Veteran jockey Angel Vasquez was aboard for the workout once again and they covered the distance in 1:02 3/5 seconds, which was third best out of nine horses that worked the distance on that day. He galloped out past three quarters of a mile.

Above The Beyond galloped past the gate with Mr. Vasquez having a strong hold. It took Mr. Vasquez nearly an eighth of a mile to pull Above The Beyond up and get him turned around. This behavior was a sign of things to come. While Above The Beyond, once again, showed good patience waiting behind the gate, when it came time for him to load the first time, he stopped and elevated himself off the ground. Mr. Vasquez dismounted and the gate crew loaded Above The Beyond into the starting gate on the third attempt. Mr. Vasquez then remounted and their two work mates loaded with one on either side. When the starter sprung the latch, the bell sounded and the pair broke extremely well. Mr. Vasquez asked Above The Beyond for some speed during the first part of this workout and he delivered, although he was not able to keep up with the quicker of his two workmates.

Above The Beyond cooled out in good order and has since returned to training. If all goes according to plan, he will work another five eighths of a mile this Saturday. He will also return to the gate a few more times prior to working from it again.

Prime Equine Perfecta - Foals By Scat Daddy And Purim Run One-Two At Belmont

The sixth race at Belmont Park on Friday, July 15th generated a Prime Equine perfecta for those investors involved in our breeding partnerships.

The winner of the $60,000 maiden special weight event was Finale, who became the fourth winner (third in maiden special weight company) for freshman sire Scat Daddy . Running second in the race was Two Months Rent, a son of grade I winner Purim . One of our broodmares, Weatheringthestorm, is in foal to Scat Daddy and our other broodmare, Keen Lassie , is in foal to Purim . Finale, a Keeneland sales graduate who is trained by Todd Pletcher, covered the six furlongs over the inner turf course is 1:08.7 while winning off by nearly six lengths at the wire.

Above The Beyond Works Half Mile From The Gate

Above The Beyond worked an impressive half mile Saturday morning over a drying out track at Suffolk Downs. Veteran jockey Angel Vasquez was aboard for the workout once again and they covered the distance in 50 3/5 seconds from the gate, which was ninth best out of twenty three horses that worked the distance on that day, and the third best time for horses breaking from the gate. He galloped out past five eighths of a mile.

Above The Beyond galloped around to the gate and waited patiently while a number of horses performed gate work prior to having his opportunity. When it was his turn, he hesitated slightly entering, then settle comfortably with a number of assistant starters surrounding him. As Jorge Berberena, a gate crew member, approached the front of the gate and opened it, the bell sounded, and Above The Beyond bounced from the gate. It took him approximately four to five strides to hit full speed. But, once there, his strides were smooth and comfortable and he switched leads perfectly.

Mr. Vasquez was extremely pleased with the workout, indicating that although he began to tire, it was not until they were past the five eighths mark. Mr. Vasquez pushed Above The Beyond to go a bit further, and they pulled up near the seven eighths pole. Kevin Osborne, Above The Beyond's regular exercise rider, was on the track at the time of the workout and saw the tandem as they came down the lane. He felt that the workout was done "effortlessly", indicating that Mr. Vasquez was just sitting chilly as Above The Beyond approached him. Once again, he cooled out in good order, showing no signs of cramping.

Above The Beyond will continue to jog and gallop over the next week. If all goes according to plan, he will work five eighths of a mile next Saturday.

Above The Beyond worked a solid half mile Saturday morning over a fast
track at Suffolk Downs. Veteran jockey Angel Vasquez was aboard for the work. They covered the distance in 50 seconds flat, which was eleventh best out of twenty one horses that worked the distance on that day. The tandom galloped straight off down the lane and around the first turn. They broke off at the half mile pole and cruised around the turn. Once again, he switched his leads on cue and continued at a sufficient pace down the lane to the wire, galloping out an additional eighth of a mile. Above The Beyond was asked for a bit more speed for this workout and subsequently tired slightly the last sixteenth of a mile. He cooled out in good order, showing no cramping issues.

Mr. Vasquez was impressed at Above The Beyond's poise and professionalism. He was extremely pleased with the workout and asked if he could work the gelding again.

Above The Beyond will continue to jog and gallop over the next week. If all goes according to plan, he will work another half mile next Saturday, this time in company.

White Thunder Runs Second In Finger Lakes Allowance Event

White Thunder, fresh off a third place finish in his previous try at Finger Lakes Racetrack, took second place last Friday in a non winners of two allowance event going a mile and seventy yards.

Ridden once again by Emanuel De Diego, White Thunder was content to sit off the pace set by Wild Hero and Coupon thru the first turn and down the backstretch. As the field made it's way through the final turn, White Thunder made a steady run, taking over the lead at the head of the stretch. He increased his margin gradually through mid stretch, but could not hold off the late run of the eventual winner, Vlast, whose final margin of victory was three quarters of a length.

The final time of 1:48 reflected the beachy and loose conditions of the racetrack, a surface that White Thunder has never been necessarily fond of. He is expected to make his next start in two weeks time against the same group of horses, under the same allowance conditions.

Trained by Thomas Amoss, Little Miss Muffett was sent to the post as favourite for the five furlong maiden and after jumping away smartly was always in contention before pulling clear to win by three-quarters of a length.

A $45,000 purchase from the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Little Miss Muffett runs for McLoughlin Stables and is the seventh winner from smart producing Kris S mare Jenna S.

White Thunder Runs Third In Finger Lakes Allowance Event

White Thunder turned in a top effort in his first route race of the year this past Friday, running third in a non winners of two allowance event at Finger Lakes Racetrack. Under jockey Emanuel De Diego, White Thunder broke sharply from the two hole, then was allowed to settle along the rail as the horses raced into the first turn. White Thunder continued to stalk the pace setters down the back stretch and into the far turn while gaining slowly. As the field turned for home, White Thunder began to tire and was unable to sustain his rally. He earned the second highest speed figure of his life (over both turf and main track racing) in this event. White Thunder will undoubtedly improve next time out, as he proceeded to drink two full buckets of water after his race while cooling out, indicating a need for this race over the route of ground.

Trainer Jared Schoeneman plans on giving White Thunder two weeks rest before his next start, which will put him on target for a race sometime near Memorial Day. We are all very impressed with his latest effort and look forward to his next outing.

Above The Beyond to Ship to Suffolk Downs on May 1st

Gary Least has informed me that Above The Beyond will be shipping from Foggy Bottom Farm to Suffolk Downs on Sunday, May 1st. His estimated time of arrival is 6PM.

The stable area at Suffolk Downs has been open since April 21st and a substantial number of horses have been training over the track since this date. I visited Suffolk Downs over the weekend to inspect the condition of the racetrack and to speak with trainers whose horses had been galloping over the surface. All trainers that I spoke with stated that the surface was even and in good condition.

White Thunder to Make 2011 Debut on May 3rd at Finger Lakes

White Thunder is slated to make his 2011 racing debut on May 3rd at Finger Lakes Racetrack. The race that we have chosen for him is an open allowance event for three year olds and upward which have never won two races in their careers. The distance of the race will either be five furlongs or five and one half furlongs on the dirt, depending upon how many horses are entered in each division.

White Thunder will be entering this race off of his last workout, a half mile move from the starting gate that was performed on Friday, April 22nd. He stopped the clock in 49 3/5, which was in the top third of horses that worked that distance on Friday. It was the third fastest workout at the distance for horses that were breaking from the starting gate. Jared Schoeneman reported to me that White Thunder cooled out perfectly once again and that this workout signalled that Thunder's fitness level is where it needs to be. Thunder is due to have a strong, two minute lick gallop towards the end of this week which will be the finishing touch for his 2011 debut. Entries for the May 3rd race close this Friday, April 29th.

White Thunder Works Half Mile in 50 4/5

White Thunder recorded another fabulous workout today, stopping the clock in 50 4/5 for the half mile while galloping out a strong five eighths. Thunder continues to put away all of his workmates while picking up the pace over the last eighth to a quarter of a mile. Once again, this was a well controlled workout and he drank approximately one quarter of the water in his bucket after the workout. Jared Schoeneman reports that White Thunder's cooled out perfectly and that his next workout will be going five eighths of a mile, while galloping out three quarters. He plans on working him one more time after this, then entering to run. One, or both, of these last two workouts will be from the gate.

Barre, Massachusetts - April 12, 2011 - Foals from Scat Daddy's first crop continued to catch the eyes of buyers this afternoon as a colt out of the mare Bourbon Ball brought $250,000 at yesterday evening's two year old in training sale at Keeneland. Other foals have previously brought $400,000, $220,000, $175,000, and $125,000 at previous 2011 auctions. Prime Equine's broodmare, Weatheringthestorm, is currently in Kentucky at Ashford Stud and was bred to this promising, young stallion on March 30th. White Thunder Works Half Mile in 50 3/5 Seconds

Jared Schoeneman reports that White Thunder's second workout of the year was just as good as his first, stopping the clock in 50 3/5 seconds for the half mile on Friday over a drying out racetrack. The time was the tenth best out of twenty one on the day. Mr. Schoeneman chose to work White Thunder in company with one of the stable's horses who had always shown good speed. The plan was for Thunder to have a target to run at the last eighth of a mile. However, as the horses broke off at the half mile pole, Thunder took a quick three length advantage, and held that advantage during the entire workout. Mr. Schoeneman stated to me that the rider on Thunder had his "feet in the dashboard" during the entire workout and could have easily stopped the clock in 49 seconds. He came out of the workout in extremely good order, having drank only a quarter bucket of water while cooling out. And, according to Mr. Schoeneman, White Thunder was bouncing the entire length of the shedrow while having his daily walk this morning. What makes this workout most impressive to both Mr. Schoeneman and myself is the fact that the track was on the deep side, although not "beachy" or "sandy". White Thunder handled the drying out racetrack extremely well and Mr. Schoeneman stated to me that everything went perfectly. White Thunder will walk again on Sunday and return to training on Monday. Weatheringthestorm And Keen Lassie Bred - In Foal Status To Be Checked In Fourteen To Sixteen Days

Barre, Massachusetts - April 1, 2011 - Both Weatheringthestorm and Keen Lassie were bred for the first time on Thursday. Weatheringthestorm was bred to Scat Daddy, whose first two year olds at auction have brought $400,000, $220,000, $170,000, and $125,000, etc. Keen Lassie was bred to Purim, a grade one winning son of sire of sires, Dynaformer. Cheree Barwick of Ashford Stud reported that the Weatheringthestorm's cover to Scat Daddy went well and without incident and she was back in her stall relaxing and eating hay by two in the afternoon. Tom Ackerman of Mahogany Hill Farm reported that Keen Lassie had been covered by Purim at approximately three in the afternoon. She handled the van ride well both to and from Richland Hills, where Purim stands. She returned to Mahogany Hill Farm at approximately five o'clock. Both covers are considered to have been successful. Both mares will be ultrasounded in fourteen to sixteen days to check on their in foal status.
