If your humidor isn’t maintaining humidity like you assumed it would and now your cigars are in danger of drying out we recommend that you read the remainder of this article.

On most occassions when you buy a new humidor it does not come humidified unless the cigar shop that you purchased it from conditioned it and let it rest while it sat on the store shelf. If you are buying a humidor from an online store, it will need to be conditioned prior to use. The worst thing you could do to your precious cigars is to put them into an under-conditioned humidor.

When you buy your humidor you have to make sure it comes with the following items, if not buy them before you put cigars in your humidor:

Propylene Glycol Solution (Yea, you can use distilled water but we don’t recommend it. Using premixed humidor solution almost guarantees no mold growth or bacteria.)

Hygrometer (We highly recommend a digital hygrometer. Analog hygrometers are known to provide inaccurate readings.)

Humidifier (We prefer crystal based humidifiers over standard foam based ones. They hold moisture much better and when you notice that the crystals are shrinking you simply add more humidor solution.)

We also recommend having a clean spray bottle and int-free paper towel or cloth on hand.

Now that you have everything we listed above, you can humidify your humidor. When re-humidifying your humidor, make sure you remove your cigars and place them into humidified enviroment. Using a pre-humdified humipouch or humibag works well.

Steps To Seasoning Your Humidor

TIP - IF NOT ALREADY INSTALLED, HUMIDIFICATION DEVICES AND HYGROMETERS ARE NORMALLY ATTACHED WITH A STICKY PIECE OF VELCRO OR A METAL PLATE. NEVER CONDITION YOUR HUMIDOR UNTIL YOU HAVE PLACED THESE ON YOUR HUMIDOR’S INTERIOR LID. They WILL NOT STICK TO THE MOIST WOOD. THEY MUST BE ATTACHED ON A DRY SURFACE.

Start by pouring some of the humidor solution into the spray bottle. Just enough to get about 10-15 sprays worth out of it. Now take the spray bottle and not close, spray a section of the humidor down until the wood changes to just a slightly darker color.

TIP - WORK IN SMALL SECTIONS, START WITH THE LEFT, THEN RIGHT AND FINISH WITH THE INTERIOR LID. SPRAYING THE ENTIRE HUMIDOR ALL AT ONCE OR OVER WETTING IT MAY CAUSE THE WOOD TO WARP, CRACK OR SWELL.

You now need to wipe the section of the humidor down with paper towel that you sprayed with the Propylene Glycol Solution. Make sure it’s a good quality paper towel so it does not shread or leave lint on the wood. Rub the solution soaked wood down to dry off excess solution. Once you have completely sprayed and rubbed down the inside of humidor check it over to make sure that there are no dry spots. You want to condition the humidor so the wood absorbs moisture which will create an almost tropical enviroment to store your cigars in.

The last step is to add your humidification device. If using a sponge like humidifier make sure you saturate it with Propylene Glycol Solution to get it completely wet. Make sure you shake off any excess solution. You do not want it to drip and warp the wood. Now attach it to your humidor where you previously placed the velcro or metal magnet plates.

Close the seasoned humidor and let it rest for 72 hours. Do not place the humidor near a window or a warm spot in the house and do not peek at the humidify level or open it until time is up.

When you open the humidor, your relative humidity should be in the 70’s range. If not, repeat the steps and try again until you achieve this level. If your humidor is reading proper levels, you can place your cigars inside for safe storage. Make sure they rest comfortably, are not overcrowed and do not block any of the devices on the inside.

TIP - RE-HUMIDIFYING YOUR HUMIDOR COULD TAKE A FEW DAYS TO A FEW WEEKS. LARGER HUMIDORS MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL TIME DUE TO THEIR SIZE.

If you tend to open your humidor on a regular basis you will need to monitor humidity and temperature readings. You will also find yourself re-humidifying your humidor on a regular basis.

For those who do not go into your humidor, you also need to check your levels. We recommend checking them on a weekly basis.

TIP - IF YOU THINK YOUR HYGROMETER IS NOT READING HUMIDITY LEVELS PROPERLY SIMPLY REMOVE IT AND WRAP IT IN A COOL DAMP WASHCLOTH. AFTER 30 MINUTES CHECK THE LEVEL. IF IT DOES NOT READ 100%, YOU WILL NEED TO ADJUST IT OR PURCHASE A NEW ONE.

written by : cigargypsy.com

Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Best Cigars of 2006

Every January, Cigar Aficionado comes out with their top 25 cigars of the year. I’ve heard it time and time again how the most important quality of a humidor is it’s seal so it will maintain proper humidity levels. I agree with this somewhat but when a person who really doesn’t know much about cigar storage is brainwashed with this belief they actually risk ruining their stogies. Although you need a nice tight seal to maintain humidity, you do not want it too tight because it will prevent oxygen from getting in.

When you have a humidor that is above 50% capacity you need to remember to supply fresh air to them on a bi-weekly basis. Cigars that are stored for long periods of time can become “stale” or “spoiled” if not rotated.

TIP - AGING CIGARS NEED TO BREATHE. CIGARS TAKE IN FRESH OXYGEN AND RELEASE GASES INTO THE SURROUNDING AIR WHICH HELP IN “SEASONING” YOUR HUMIDOR OR “ADDING FLAVOR” TO IT. FOR THIS REASON YOU SHOULD AERATE YOUR CIGARS.

Let’s say you have a humidor that holds 50 cigars and you have 30 cigars stored in it. We all know a properly treated humidor holds moisture in the wood which humidifies the cigars. If you leave one cigar rested against this wood it will begin to draw moisture from it. Remember that cigar tobacco is absorbant and if left against the wood too long, it could possible become too moist to smoke or you risk growing mold on your cigar. By rotating and aerating the cigars every two weeks, you now have a more balanced aging enviroment for your cigars.

TIP - WE RECOMMEND THAT ANY CIGARS RECENTLY PURCHASED BE PLACED AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR HUMIDOR. THIS WILL ENSURE THAT THE CIGARS ARE EXPOSED TO OPTIMAL HUMIDOR CONDITIONS.

If you have a large humidor we know it can be a little confusing knowing which cigars are next in line to be moved on the bottom of your humidor so we suggest labeling the cigars by layers (blank cigar labels work great). If you have 10 cigars that are on the bottom of your humdior, all of these cigars would be identified as “Row A” or “Line 1″. The next row or second from the bottom would be labeled “Row B” or “Line 2″ and so forth. This way you know that the next time you rotate your cigars all labeled “Row B” will be moved to bottom of the humidor on the next rotation and “Row A” will be on the top.

TIP - DON’T WANT TO SPEND MONEY ON BLANK CIGAR LABELS? TAKE YOUR USED ONES FROM YOUR SMOKED CIGARS, FLIP THEM OVER AND WRITE ON THE WHITE PART. A SMALL PIECE OF SCOTCH TAPE WILL HOLD THE LABEL IN PLACE SECURELY.

Moving and rotating your cigars can become a real big task if you own a very large or more than one humidor. Adding a Spanish Cedar Cigar Grate to the bottom of your humidor will cut down time spent on rotating the cigars. By placing a cigar grate into your humidor, you raise your cigars enough to get them off the moist wood below. Raising them slightly will help balance the moisture within the humidor and prevent the cigars from becoming too moist.

TIP - YOU SHOULD TREAT YOUR CIGAR GRATE PRIOR TO PUTTING IT IN THE HUMIDOR. YOU SHOULD NEVER PLACE A DRY GRATE INTO THE HUMIDOR AS IT WILL ABSORB MOISTURE FROM CIGARS PLACED ON IT WHICH COULD RESULT IN DRY CIGARS.

written by : CigarGypsy.com

Cigar Wrapper Growing, Harvesting & Aging

Most of us enjoy the finer things in life and cigars just happen to be one of those items. Cigar quality can be compared to the quality of fine wines. Both cigar tobacco and wine grapes come from the earth and require specific regions to grow in. The land that the seedlings are planted on effects the end quality of the plants. Cigar tobacco requires perfect growing, harvesting and aging conditions to be noted as “Top Grade Tobacco”. At this time, some of the most popular regions in the world to grow tobacco are; Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Costa Rica and Cuba. Although most tobacco is grown outside of the United States, a lot of people don’t realize that good quality tobacco is also grown in Pennsylvania.

Tobacco fields are prepped just like any other crop field and seeds are planted in early spring. Tobacco seeds are very tiny and should be planted on flat fields so the seeds will stay put and not get washed away during rainfall. After the seeds are planted, some growers like to cover them with cloth, straw or palm to shade the seeds from the sun. When the seeds begin to germinate, the cover is removed and the seedlings are allowed to grow long enough to produce strong roots to withstand being transplanted into the larger tobacco fields. As the plants grow, they are monitored on a regular basis for quality, defects and insect damage. Tobacco leaves are normally watered by rain and dew gathered on the leaves in the morning. It is not uncommon to have the farmers water the plants with mineral treated water if rainfall is low. Tobacco roots grow quickly and very often grow close to the surface. Due to this reason growers have to be careful with the plants when cultivating around them. Disturbing the soil any more than necessary could damage the plants roots.

As the plant begins growing leaves, flower buds will begin to appear and need to be removed by hand to prevent them from stunting the growth of the tobacco leaves. Quality of cigars is directly related to the quality of the tobacco leaves and therefore growers will take additional measures to protect their crops. One way is to hoist large wooden poles and cover the plants with large tarps, gauze or cloth. By giving them partial shade the plants are less likely to get damaged from natural elements. The cover also prevents the tobacco leaves from becoming too thick which is a natural response to sunlight and helps them remain silky to the touch.

It normally takes about 6 months for the transplanted tobacco seedlings to be ready for harvesting. During this time, the plants are checked on often making it a labor intensive process. When it is time to harvest the plants, most growers remove the leaves by hand because they are very delicate and could tear if not handled properly. As the leaves are being removed, they will be sorted by size and physical condition because only the best leaves will be used as wrappers. Any tobacco leaves that are not good enough to be wrappers will be used as the filler. Once the leaves that will be used as wrappers have been stacked into bundles, they are then taken to a tobacco barn to be cured. The tobacco is hung or strung on poles to dry them. Aging normally takes anywhere from a month and a half to two months and could vary slightly depending on weather conditions.

Growers understand the curing process is very important and just like having optimum growing conditions is important, so is the aging process. Most cure barns are positioned so that the sun will face one side of the building and then over the day make it’s way to the other side providing even heat. Although somewhat difficult, growers control temperature by opening and closing doors and vents in the aging barns to account for weather changes. If the barn becomes too hot, the leaves will begin to break down. During the fermenting process, the tobacco leaves will turn from a healthy green to a golden brown color. Once the leaves have finished fermenting they are taken down and the leaves are stacked into bundles according to color.

Once the leaves have been bundled together, they are sent to cigar factories and warehouses for processing. Although the wrappers are ready to be rolled, they are more than often placed in bales to be aged for longer periods of time. By slowly maturing the wrappers in a constant humidified environment, the cigar wrappers will become more flavorful.

Written By: CigarGypsy.com

Buying Cigars Online

Are you interested in buying cigars over the internet but don’t know how to? If you are new to the virtual shopping place, don’t fret. Buying cigars online is easy. All you need to do is keep the below mentioned tips in mind when making your purchase online.
Tips To Buy Cigars Online

1. In order to know which cigar to buy, you must know your preference. While the Cuban cigars have long been known as the best cigars ever, there are many other cigars, which are equally good. Of course, Cuban tobacco’s attributes are products of the island’s climate and the tobacco growing method employed in that island. Cuban cigars are superior because of the manner in which they are rolled. In any case, Cuban cigars are unavailable in America, and importing them or buying them from someone who has done so is illegal.
2. Besides Cuban cigars, there are numerous other superior brands of cigars available online. You can choose from Honduran, Nicaraguan, and many other Caribbean and Latin American cigars. The internet offers literally hundreds of cigar websites selling almost any brand of cigar available in the world.

3. If you are a novice cigar smoker , then a good way to get initiated into this culture is to buy a cigar sampler. Online retailers sell cigar samples extensively, and they contain cigars from different parts of the world with differently grown and treated tobacco. The internet is a good place to start experimenting with cigars.
4. Before buying cigars online, you may want to try to compare the prices at each cigar-selling website. Check out cigar website reviews, articles, forums etc to figure out if the people running the websites know their cigars or not.
5.After have chosen the website from where you’ll buy cigars, it’s time to order them. Buy a small number of cigars initially to see the response of the website with your shipment. You will have to wait for the cigars to be delivered on your doorstep to know the condition they arrive in.
6.Besides cigars, you can also purchase cigar accessories such as cigar cutters, humidors etc online.
7. Credit card is the usual mode of payment.
8. Before taking the final step for buying cigars online, check the return or exchange policy on the website. This will help you in case you receive infested or spoilt cigars.

source : http://www.tosmokeacigar.com

Ashton VSG Sorcerer

The VSG, from Dominican Republic with DR filler and an Ecuadorian Sun grown wrapper, is a 7” Double Corona sporting a 49 ring gauge. During the first half of smoking, the flavor is that of spiciness, though rich and smooth. The VSG has the ‘twang’, which is associated with the sun grown wrapper. During the last half of the smoke, the flavor develops into more of an earthy spice, with floral undertones. The smoke produced is creamy white and thick, and the burn line is razor sharp. This cigar is one you will want to keep smoking until your finger tips are burnt.

source: http://thesmokeblog.com

Bold Cigars and Strong Flavors

Ask a cigar aficionado about the importance of smoking a bold cigar with strong flavor after a lavish dinner. The pleasantly strong digestive aroma of a bold cigar can help settle the meal…and transport you to another world.

A lavish spread calls for perfection in everything from food to wine to dessert. So what type of cigar will be perfect after such a Lucullan meal? A robust cigar, an old, loyal companion, it helps fight away the post dinner blues and makes you enjoy every smoke puffing moment after every smoke puffing moment! Championing for a place in your memories, bold cigars such as Montecristo, Bolivar, Cohiba, Partagas, Punch, and others that age and mature properly are invaluable.

The body and strength of a cigar are not the same. Flavor and strength are also as dissimilar as scent and aroma or body and overall cigar quality. In the commonest cigar parlance, when appreciating cigar each and every term just mentioned holds its own distinct and unique meaning and should never be mixed up or misunderstood for any other. Where strength refers to the measure of nicotine in a cigar, it also signifies the ‘kick,’ and a bold cigar is packed with nicotine. Bold cigars are popular among most smokers because they produce a kick that is hard to resist and easy to get addicted to!

A bold cigar is not just about strength of flavor. It has to a lot to do with maturity of flavor and aroma, and taste. The subtle delicacy of complex structure, almost similar to fragile antique lace is truly to be cherished and reveled in. Smoking a true bold cigar is like communicating with a whispering ghost, a little ancient, a lot wise, and just a little tragic. And if you are the one who lights up the funeral pyre of this precious and important leaf, of an international origin, you must be determined to puff it down to ashes and take as much of its ephemeral aroma into yourself…completely and with gay abandon. Smoking a bold cigar is one of the most powerful and cherished experiences ever…you have to try it once to believe us.
for detail see http://www.tosmokeacigar.com

XIKAR Xi2 Cigar Cutter

See the Xikar butterfly cutters in the hands of Lex Luthor in
Superman Returns

. Many cigar cutters leave trailing pieces of tobacco on the lip of the cigar. Others don't cut enough of the tip to allow an even, smooth draw. Almost none of the cigar cutters on the market accommodate the large cigar sizes preferred in the US. It’s rumored that every handmade Havana cigar is subjected to at least 222 different stages to make is market ready. Each Havana, Cuban cigar is lovingly made by hand and processed meticulously even today, and proudly stays as one of the finest cigars internationally.

While Cuban cigars may generally be considered as the best of the lot, many cigar experts believe that giving it some serious competition are cigars from countries such as Honduras and Nicaragua. It’s commonly known that Cuban cigars have garnered the leader’s reputation due to the singular attributes of the Vuelta Abajo district in the Pinar del Río Province, West Cuba, which has a microclimate most suitable for growth of high-quality tobacco.

Such is the lore of Cuban cigars that even most of the non-cigar smoking population worldwide knows about Cuban cigars. Long known as the finest and best brands in the world, these bad sticks are extremely difficult to get hold of. With such high shining reputation, Cuban cigars make for a very profitable commodity to import and distribute across the world. While there are many brands of Cuban cigars, some of the really popular brands are Coronas Especiales (said to be one of Fidel Castro’s favorites) and Montecristos.

Perhaps, the mystery and hype surrounding Cuban cigars has made them even more popular. However, the truth is that because Cuban cigars are rare to come by in America, it has been generally accepted that they are really the best. Undoubtedly, their quality is rich and flavor is full-bodied but cigars from Caribbean Islands are equally good. On the other hand, the growing grey market for fake Cuban cigars is growing fast. While it’s easy to spot the fakes from the originals due to the poor quality and lackluster appearance, but there are some good fakes out there as well. The best way to ensure quality and authenticity of your Cuban cigar is to buy them taking proper care and always from a reputable, reliable, and known Cuban cigar dealer.

It’s tough to say whether Cuban cigars are the best or not. It’s a matter of personal choice and taste. However, it would not be incorrect to say the Cuban cigars can easily win hearts of all the cigar lovers – greens or seasoned smokers alike.

souce : http://www.tosmokeacigar.com

Colibri Xtreme Lighter

I don't smoke, so what am I doing with a butane lighter in my pocket? My life has no end of candles, lanterns, and fires to light, that's why. I had one of Brunton's "Stormproof" Helios lighters until it turned out to be worthless at altitude on a mountain, where making a fire might be important. Besides, the Helios opens so wide you can't reach it down into votive lights or fat candles or into the thick of kindling.

Solution: the Colibri Quantum Xtreme CX lighter. It's nice and narrow---fits anywhere. Its "Electro-Flame" ignition has proved fully reliable. And you can dial in the altitude you want it to light at; it changes the fuel/air mix to suit, good up to 15,000 feet. No other lighter does this

It lists at $100. The lowest price I found was at eLighters, $80---available in black, white, pearl, and blue. REI has a gaudy orange model with what looks like a clear fuel container and maybe lighter weight, but full price: $100. The weight of my black one is 1.85 ounces.

-- Stewart Brand

Colibri Xtreme Lighter
$50
Available from REI

NOTE: We are now linking to the Xtreme II, the second incarnation of the lighter reviewed above. So, would anybody please explain the mechanism through which raising taxes on the oil industry or confiscating profits would in effect lower the prices we see at the pump? Arrrgh!

Anyhow, I was getting mildly nauseated as I watched the John McCain town hall meeting on Fox last night and decided it was time tune out the madness and enjoy a good cigar. I needed something of a serious cigar, so I pulled out a Camacho Coyolar Puro Rotshchild.
This cigar in my experience is very solid, with an excellent burn and aroma all the way. It’s certainly potent and has a good profile. I would say that this is one stick that benefits a lot by aging, as it has a lot of potential for evolution.

The Coyolar Puro experience starts with the marvelous wrapper before the light-up. I appreciate the dark aroma or cacao, wood and bittersweet spices. It lights easily, producing a very peppery initial burst of smoke. You know there is power to come right from that first peppery puff. However they achieve this, it’s very well done and extremely appealing.
The pepper would be too much if it did not subside as the cigar progresses; but it does. It evolves as the power picks up and the pepper mellows out into a very classic, old school almost leathery tobacco flavor with bitter spice notes in the background. The aroma has a distinct sweetness to it.

Past the half way mark, the smoke picks up strength again, but pleasantly so. I was so relaxed by now that the eerie moments, during the town hall meeting, in which McCain sounded just like Obama, or worse, didn’t freak me out anymore. The flavor was just too good and solid as usual.
Bitter espresso notes surfaced as the cigar approached the great finale. The aroma stays sweet, and overall the flavor too stays pleasant through to the end; so long as the power isn’t too much for you. I would recommend this as a complement to a good evening meal to any smoke that enjoys a full bodied cigar or one that is transitioning into one. The flavor is superb and should help the transition into fuller blends.

Infinity Maduro Robusto Cigars

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-_zBmHfEZQ2WxOhbQOxF5-3ykQGtVL-_ArRWFIkM11scYSvW0NPPzpZiQtLeycdHfDaWDwAsZK8AtYqnMvmlThaV3hoTzCjdzZRgWWoRmzh9a7k3mHWNPbfmqGLh2Yff6Tr8O/s320/infinity_4_200.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323821717751684450" />
Cigar Rating: 97

The Infinity Maduro is the Cadillac of cigars. Whereas cigarette smoking is typically a pastime, cigar smoking is a culture. People usually smoke cigars during special occasions, whether it is to celebrate a first child, seal a business deal, or enjoy a night of poker with one's buddies. Further proof of how firmly entrenched cigar smoking is in the American culture is the fact that Red Auerbach lighted a ceremonial cigar after his Boston Celtics won yet another basketball championship. Then, there's the wide circulation of cigar magazines like "Cigar Aficionado" in newsstands. These periodicals include features such as cigar ratings, international tobacconists, and cigar-friendly restaurants. Considering how popular cigar smoking is, it is, thus, only fitting to pay homage to cigar cutters in much the same way tobacco aficionados pay their respects to the almighty Cuban. After all, cigar smoking begins with a cigar cutter's snip of the tobacco product.

Cigar Hall of Fame

One reason cigar smoking has become more popular than ever could be the possibility that compared to cigarette smoking, cigar smoking is less dangerous to one's health. The reason is that when one smokes cigar, one does not inhale its smoke. Perhaps this explains how comedian George Burns, a lifetime cigar smoker, reached the ripe old age of 100 years! Other famous personalities who have become icons due in part to their cigar smoking include:

* Larger-than-life British leader Winston Churchill, after whom a cigar size was named.
* Austrian Psychiatrist Sigmund Freud, who often smoked during sessions with his patients.
* American author Mark Twain, who claimed that he smoked whenever he was awake.
* Comedy actor Groucho Marx, who often smoked a short, thick cigar.

Cigars Have a Past (And a Future)

Comedian George Burns, who used cigars to time his routine, served as the unofficial face of cigar smokers. While that face has become much more diverse in recent times, the essence of cigar smoking has remained unchanged. Cigars are often linked to celebrations of good luck and little triumphs. While they have historically been considered as a rich person's pastime, cigars have increasingly become more common in modern culture. Also, you have probably heard of the phrase, "close, but no cigar." Do you know where this expression comes from? The origin of the saying is the practice of saving a cigar as a good luck charm, in hopes of winning a bet made.

Cigar Characters

Other cigar legends involve people rather than activities. For example, English King Edward VII loved smoking cigars despite opposition from his mother. One story reveals that after his mother passed away, King Edward regally announced to his male guests, "Gentleman, you may smoke." It should be noted that they probably used knives rather than cigar cutters. In King Edward's honor, an American brand of cigars was named after him.

Another cigar legend is shown in the American sitcom show "Seinfeld." A character, Kramer, is frequently shown smoking a cigar. In the 1992 movie "Scent of a Woman," Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade orders his assistant to purchase a particular brand of cigars, which he knows will be hard as nails to find.

Making the Cut

The variety of cigar cutters available creates a legend of its own. Cigar cutters vary in size and color, ranging from portable to desktop, and from red to blue. Other cutters have multiple functions, and are paired with other tools such as key rings, portable knife sets, or money clips. When choosing cigar cutters, it is wise to first consider your needs.

In many respects, cigars have become as common in modern culture as the Internet and reality TV. Choosing the right cigar cutters further adds to the style and experience of cigar smoking.

About the Author - Bradlley Mckoy

Beginner’s Guide to Choosing a Cigar

Sure, cigar smoking or any kind of smoking is bad for health. But cigar smokers are a different community and enjoy every puff of their cherished cigar much like their life is stuck in it! As a novice cigar smoker there are many things you’ll need to learn. While you can learn about most aspect of choosing and smoking a cigar here, there will be some things that you’ll be able to learn with experience. An important thing to keep in mind is that when determining the quality of a cigar, you’ll need to involve all your senses in the process.

From the leaf to the color of the ash, from the burn rate to tasting the smoke for flavor and richness – there are plenty of parameters that differentiate a good cigar from a bad cigar and quality is the key word when choosing a cigar.

Appearance: inspecting the cigar wrapper for smoothness, some oiliness, and an overall satisfying impression and checking for cracks or ripples will help you choose a good cigar. Ensure that the cigar wrapper is free of any large veins and flaws. It should feel smooth, silky, oily, or grainy, or bumpy when touched depending on the cigar brand. The cigar shouldn’t be too hard or too soft, so feel the cigar for springiness. You can smell the cigar for aroma as well.

Taste: as an inexperienced smoker, you must taste as many cigars as you can. If you enjoy the cigar then it is a good cigar; you can start with mild cigar and go on to bold cigars as you start differentiating between the undertones and complexities of flavor.

Choosing: Every cigar brand has its own unique taste and character. Cigars are made worldwide and with different curing, rolling techniques, and tobacco flavors, each element contributes towards the taste and flavor of each and every cigar based on the brand and type.

Here are very general typifications of cigars that can help you differentiate between mild cigars and
bold cigars.

* Jamaican cigars are mild
* Dominican Republican cigars are mild to medium
* Honduras and Nicaraguan cigars are strong and heavy
* Cuban cigars are the richest and creamiest of ‘em all!

Finally, remember that if the diameter is large, the cigar will be richer and offer full-bodied flavor and if it is long, the smoke will be cooler. As a new smoker, you can start with any Macanudo orArturo Fuente brand cigar.

Cigar Cutters

Smoking a cigar is more than a pastime to the smoker, to something compared to a way of living. To the cigar smoker, cigar can be considered a way of a special merry making or a happy moment of communing with friends or of making like-minds meet like-minds. The practice of smoking cigars has been deeply entrenched in the minds of most Americans and there are many adverts, cigar clubs or pubs have been created, all in honor of smoking cigar. If smoking in itself is very important, then we should also consider the importance that ought to be attributed to the cigar cutter. The cutter is more than an accessory, to part and parcel of the cigar and the process of the cigar smoking.

With cigar cutters, scarcity has never been a problem. The cutter is highly available in all assortments and it is usually provided in a pack of key holders, knife sets and other day to day household or everyday kits.

The main function of the cutter is to remove that cap or cover of the cigar before actually lighting it. The cigar cutter is available in the V Cut, the Hole Punch and the Straight Cut. Therefore, what you have should be dependent on your personal choice and the size of cigar you have or aspire to have. What is usually very available is the Straight Cut and it is most preferable to use with small ring cigars.

The Straight Cut cutter can exist as a single blade guillotine or a double blade guillotine. But the double blade guillotine should be preferable because of the cleanliness with which the cut is made on the cigar. The Straight Cutter is also very convenient to carry about and it costs as little as nothing compared to the price of the cigar and the satisfaction you intend to get from the cigar.

The V Cutter is just like the guillotine cutter but it produces a wedge-shape at the top of the cigar.

The Hole Punch cigar cutter is peculiar in that it creates a hollow at the tip of the cigar. But this hollow should be created to be wide enough for smoke to freely pass through.

What should be borne in mind is that although simply a cutter, the cigar cutter is what adds importance to the manner in which you will enjoy smoking.

see article source

The Best Cigars In The World

Like a fine glass of wine, a cigar also tastes fine. Because of the embargo against the Habanas, the United States have made the cigar more popular than before. Most new smokers do not have the opportunity to smoke famous cigars like the Cuban cigar, but that does not detour them from coming connoisseurs of cigars.

Cuban cigars many feel need to be enjoyed and have a slow burn to last for the full advantage of tasting the cigar. The older cigar smokers realize that two things make cigars truly famous cigars, the quality of the filler and the brand name. Because Cuba has the reputation of excellence in cigars because of the training that goes into producing these cigars, the reputation surpasses them. Cuban cigars are also made by hand as some other famous cigars are made by machine.

Many people display these famous cigars as a way of showing what kind of taste they have in excellence. It is not uncommon for top executives to hand these out after a finalized business deal or at an after dinner party. It’s a plane. It’s a XIKAR cigar cutter!

That was the reaction from Kurt Van Keppel, founder and president of XIKAR, the industry’s leading manufacturer of cigar and gentlemen’s accessories.

While in a Kansas City theater taking in the country’s hottest new film, “Superman Returns,” Van Keppel was pleasantly surprised to see his company’s Xi1 Titanium cigar cutter featured in three different scenes. Even his young daughter took notice saying, “Daddy, there’s your cutter!”

“Toward the end of the film, Superman’s nemesis, Lex Luther confidently revels in his defeat of the man of steel by cutting his cigar with the Xi1 Titanium,” said Van Keppel. “Then the camera comes in for a close- up. The cutter bounces around on the table-top during a Superman - induced earthquake.”

Warner Bros., the studio who made the blockbuster film did not seek a promotional fee from XIKAR to include their product. On the contrary, other companies are willing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for such prominent product placement as a way to create customer interest and sales.

“It was the most wonderful surprise, and we’ve gotten lots of comments from customers and users who instantly recognized the cutter as ours,” said Van Keppel.

And as most in the tobacco industry already know, recognition is instant when it comes to the Xi brand of products.

That’s because of their ergonomic design and attention to manufacturing excellence, according to Scott Almsberger, co-founder and Executive Vice President of XIKAR.

“All of our products have a unique form and finish,” Almsberger said. “They are really works of art in addition to their utility.”

The specific cutter included in Superman Returns is the Xi1 Titanium cutter, which sells for $59.99 The cutter itself has an aluminum body encasing HRC59 stainless steel blades in a spring-loaded, ergonomic shape. It’s considered by aficionados and many leading industry experts to be one of the finest cutters ever made.

After discussions with various industry insiders, Almsberger thinks he knows how the XIKAR cutter landed this supporting role.

“We think it was placed by the head of Warner Bros. Studios himself, who has been a long time customer and has a number of XIKAR products,” Almsberger said. “He’s also responsible for placing our cutter in another recent hit movie starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney called Oceans 11.”

XIKAR plans to acknowledge their gratitude by sending product gift packs and a personal note of thanks to the producer, director and stars of the film.

“Our appearance in Superman Returns is tremendous publicity for our company,” Van Keppel said. “Even Kryptonite can’t destroy that kind of brand recognition.”

Superman Returns stars Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth and Brandon Routh as Superman. It is currently in wide release across the U.S.

source: cigarenvy.com

Use the Cigar Cutter and Make Your Cigar Experience

You've heard it said before that one of the most important factors to consider before beginning on a cigar-smoking regimen is the utilization of the proper cigar accessories. Unfortunately, many people find that they are ill-equipped when it comes to making a new purchase of any cigar accessory.

By far, one of the most important cigar accessories you will purchase as a cigar smoker is your cigar cutter. Believe it or not, there is an art to cutting a cigar. If you cut your cigar too much, you wind up with an unraveled mess. However, if you don't cut your cigar enough, you might find difficulty in lighting it and experience a hindrance of your cigar’s flavor.

Unfortunately, the variance in cigar cutters can mean quite a bit of trial and error for early cigar smokers. Some cigar cutters are more difficult to use than others. As a result of this, many cigar smokers find themselves purchasing more than one type of cigar cutter. If you're planning to engage in a regular and frequent routine of cigar smoking, it might be a good idea to spend some time researching the various types of cigar cutters. Purchasing a cigar cutter that's difficult to use may stop you in your tracks before you’ve ever smoked your first cigar.

You might also find it to be a good idea to spend some time educating yourself on the proper techniques for cutting your cigars. Remember, an improper cut can ruin your cigar-smoking experience and can end up costing you more money. Your cigar will last longer and will smoke more efficiently if it has been cut properly. If your cigar has not been cut properly, it can end up burning away faster, or worse, unraveling altogether.

Remember, you will get the most enjoyment out of your cigar-smoking experience if you know how to properly utilize the right cigar accessories. They can easily be purchased at any cigar shop or online store. You will be able to choose from a wide selection of different cutters. No matter how often you smoke cigars, either on a regular basis or every so often on special occasions; you will surely want to have a cigar cutter for your convenience.

It will make sense to purchase a good quality cigar cutter. If you have a cheap one, you can ruin your cigars. Cigars are made with dried leaves and a paper wrapper and of course with the tobacco inside. The quality of the cigar will depend on the size along with the way it was wrapped to validate a good cigar. You will need to understand what a good cigar cutter is and find one that works for you.

A cigar cutter is necessary in order to cut a small hole in the rounded end. This is important to allow you to have a good and smooth draw. You will want to make sure that you do this in order to enhance the entire experience you have from your cigar smoking.

If the wrapper for the cigar is damage in the process, you are unlikely to get the proper use from the cigar. You will not have such a good experience and this will only lead to nothing more than a waste of a great cigar. A bad cut may however go unnoticed to someone that is not used to smoking a cigar. Once you have enjoyed the experience of a good cigar, you will not want the ruin any future experiences with a bad cut.

Here are some of the different types of cigar cutters available:

[1] The guillotine cutter gives you a better and cleaner cut by using one or two blades to cut the cigar.

[2] The scissor cutter puts more pressure on to the cigar which will give a more centred and even cut.

[3] The Cigar punch is not really a cutter as it will simply punch a small hole in the end of the cigar. This can be a practical method for cigars that have a very wide diameter but will not be suitable for some cigars.

If you are not sure which cigar cutter will be most beneficial for you to use, simply ask someone at the cigar store that you intend shopping at. You will find that you can get all the necessary help and advice to allow you to get the most enjoyable experience from your cigar.

http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Darren_Lintern
