what I'm into for this season

I wish I could say I have a signature scent. One sense of style. A signature makeup look. However, there are just to many pretty things for me to stick to one. I like to switch it up, and maybe to justify it, believe that the best way to stay interesting is never to stay the same way for a long time, and that change equals intrigue. That said, I do have a range, and while I switch it up within that range, I make sure I always feel like me, and (I think) there is always a common theme. Anyways, this season, Im loving anything thats girly, with an edge. the color palette I'm using, from clothing, to decorating, to makeup, to jewelry, is mint, teal, grey, and beige/blush. I love lace, ballet flats, oxfords, and boots. Anything thats a mix of classic and quirky. Scent wise I'm liking soft, feminine fragrances such as Lollia relax, a blend of lavender and honey; Amazing Grace by philosophy, as always; Moroccan rose by the body shop; and GUD vanilla flame. Don't be fooled by the name. It's not a sugary sweet scent, it's a soft, beachy scent with vanilla, rice milk. I think it also has lavender and ginger as well. I get soft, coconut-y, warm, soft creamy vibes. Really, it smells like the beach.

BB cream. Known as beauty balm or blemish balm, this originated in Asia, and has quickly become popular in the states. Tinted moisturizer. Pretty much interchangeable with BB cream. Both of these are pretty sheer coverage, moisturizing, usually with SPF. Great option if you're in a
hurry, usually applied with fingers.

Mineral powder. Popular with teens, great sheer coverage, as well as shine eliminating. Great for working out to minimize pore clogging. Best applied with with a kabuki brush.

Liquid foundation. The most traditional and probably the most common, varies from sheer to full coverage. Can be used with a foundation, stippling/buffing, kabuki, or beauty sponge.

Cream. Very portable, one of my favorite formulas. Usually full coverage. Easy to apply with any of the brush methods.

Brushes:

Beauty blender, or beauty sponge.
Usually dampened before use, this gives a flawless and airbrushed look. Be sure and clean often with brush cleaner.

Kabuki. Usually used with mineral powder, but can also be used with the other formulas. Good for full coverage, quick, controlled application

Flat foundation brush.
The traditional method, it's not really my favorite. Personally I find it leaves streaks, but a lot of people like it for either cream or liquid foundations.

Stippling/buffing brush. One of the newer brush styles, this is also wonderful for an airbrushed, sheer yet build-able application.

GREED. what is your most inexpensive beauty product? your most expensive.
Most inexpensive would be formula 10.0.6 so totally clean cleanser and deep down detox mud mask. I think these were like $5 each. (more on these in my next post)
Most expensive would probably be my Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in beige, around $40.

WRATH. what product do you have a love hate relationship with?
Probably liquid eyeliner. It gives the most gorgeous clean line, but it really can be a pain to put on.

GLUTTONY. what are your most delicious beauty products?
Definitely my Body Shop body butters. I use them at night and I always wake up to softly scented sheets.

SLOTH. what product do you neglect due to laziness.
Conditioner or hair oil, and eye cream. Clearly my moisturizing needs work.

PRIDE. what product gives you the most confidence?
eyeliner, probably. I think it can really change your look and balance the face.

LUST. What attributes do you find attractive in the opposite sex?
Why is this question even on a beauty tag? Anyway, physically, dark hair and leanness. We cant even begin to cover character wise.

ENVY. what product would you like to receive as a gift?
I love getting eye palettes as gifts.

Last night we attempted making sushi at home, so I'll show you our end results.

I, personally, need my room I be clean, and have little areas that show what I like, my personality, but still keep the overall space serene.
I have a tray where I keep my jewelry box, a Paddywax travel often: Paris candle, a pen a friend made me, and a little bowl with some lovely rose hair pins given to me by a friend.

I have next to that a stack of fashion and beauty magazines and books, several teen vogue, allure, vanity fair, and Elle, along with cupcakes and cashmere by Emily Schuman, and Parisian Chic.

I have a corner where I keep my books, non school related. A briefcase my dad gave me, a candle, some books on perfumery, some J. R. R. Tolkien books, and some classics.

I have a bureau, inside is a cork board with a dry erase board, pictures, and inspirational quotes.

On a shelf inside is a box I finished myself, and burned my symbol into, a candle, and a crystal. Inside the box are all my essential oils for making perfume.

Lastly, on my nightstand, I keep a restoration hardware silver fan, an origins Ginger Rush hand cream, a Tokyomilk le petite 02 candle, and a Lucia mini candle.

Anyway, I love seeing posts like these on other blogs, so I thought I would do one myself. Have a wonderful week!

cream eye shadows

I absolutely LOVE cream eyeshadows. I think they're a must if you're going to wear eyeshadow ( either that or an eyeshadow primer) but I find I prefer the texture of these. I have two Bobbi Brown ones, a MAC paint pot, and two Color Tattoo ones. I wouldn't say I use any of them more than the other, except I don't use bold gold very often at all. All of these set completely, and keep shadows in place for about 24 hours on me.

Swatches are in order listed.

Bone: a very pale ivory shade, perfect for blanking out the lid. I really like the texture, you just have to blend out well, and keep lids moisturized.

Ballet pink: a really pretty pinkish nude shade, perfect on it's own, or for warming cool shades.

Rubesesque: I love this up to the brow bone, on its own, or paired with grey eyeshadow as a hot/cold contrast.

Bold Gold: This one is a cool, almost green gold. The texture is a little too dry, and the texture too chunky, glittery.

Bad to the Bronze: This is the most gorgeous crease shade, It's a cool bronzy shade that pairs wonderfully with sheer shimmery golden shades.

favorite winter scents, continued.

In my last post I wrote about my favorite winter body washes, now I'll show you my favorite body butters, lotions, and fragrances. I do use other scents during the winter, but these are the ones the epitomize winter in my mind.

The body shop's chiffon sheer white musk:
I spritz this onto my hair usually. It has a subtle, musky, clean yet masculine scent.

Kuumba made amber paste: I can't even explain. For those of you that are familiar with Bath and Body works Moroccan Market candle, I recently sniffed it and this sort of smells like that. It's a very arabian, heavy, resinous scent that lasts through showering. It usually stays on my skin for about 32 hours. I also mixed some of this into a fragrance free body lotion that I apply at night. I highly recommend visiting your local whole foods, or the kuumba made website and checking this out.

The body shop's ginger sparkle body butter, and Origins ginger rush body cream. These are similar, and you'll probably find it easier to pick up the origins one, as the body shops ginger only comes out around the holidays. This is the perfect clean, cozy ginger scent. I absolutely love these anytime of year.

The body shops almond body butter:
I think this is being discontinued. Which makes me incredibly sad, if anyone has any awesome almond suggestions they would be most welcome. Anyway, this is just a yummy, sweet almond scent that is warm enough for the holidays, but Greg enough to use in the summer. Not to mention its incredibly moisturizing.

favorite winter scents

In the winter I like warm, spicy, woodsy, almost guy like scents, in a totally not weird way... Anyways,

My favorite body washes are:

neutrogina rain bath: it smells like a cross between woods and arabian spices. I've gone through several bottles of this, and plan on continuing, I haven't found anything I like more. It makes a lovely bubble bath as well.

Burt's Bees natural Men's body wash: before you laugh, go smell it. It's not overly masculine, it smells like a walk through Yosemite national park. There are hints of citrus, as well as cypress and fir. I really, really enjoy the way this leaves my skin, there is no dry feeling, and it lathers quite well.

The body shops Ginger sparkle, or Origins Ginger rush: These smell rather similar to me, both fairly clean ginger scents, reminiscent of ginger ale, or fresh ginger, not overly spiced or sweet, but warm all the same. This is soap free, but lathers as well as any body wash I've ever used. The scent lingers for a while after you use it, which in my opinion, is a good thing.

Ever since I was a little girl I've experimented with making bath products. I can't even begin to tell you the things I tried to mix. No. But this past year, I've started to get into perfume oils, and hopefully I'll be able to begin selling some in boutiques around where I live. Anyway, the first fragrance I made is called Taman Negara, it's notes are neroli, jasmine, ylang ylang, rose, sandalwood, and pine. Here's a photo.

Disney Cinderella collection at Sephora: midnight hour palette

This collection makes me so happy. I have a soft spot for anything Disney, especially if it involves gorgeous packaging. It also happens to be my favorite color. Which is why when i saw this I pretty much swooned. This palette is my ideal smokey eye, and the textures are so lovely. Super soft and buttery, they are intensely pigment, and probably some of my favorite eyeshadows to work with. The compact mirror looks like something out of a movie. Like, it's gorgeous. Like whoa.

my MAC eyeshadows

Somehow MAC is just magnetic. Maybe it's the packaging, the plethora of colors, the back to MAC concept, I really have no idea. The past couple years I've gotten several shadows, as well as a blush, and highlighter, but more of that later. Anyway, here are my MAC shadows, searched. Currently I have one MAC quad pallet, and 5 de-potted and magnetized shadows that are about to get a home in one of the larger palettes.

Left to right:
Blank type, copperplate, saddle, steamy, tilt.
Shadowy lady, beauty marked, contrast.
I forgot to swatch bottle green, it's a pro color, so not available at the counters, only in pro stores. It's the darkest color in the quad, and swatches exactly like it looks in the picture.

Review: Bobbi Brown shimmer brick

I have a bad habit of never ever doing reviews, something I'm attempting to rectify. So, I'll start with the shimmer brick in beige.
What is is: shimmer bricks are blush, bronzer, highlighter, and eyeshadows all in one. You can use them shade by shade, or swirl them all together. They come in a range of shades, but I chose the most pale, and neutral, as I have very fair skin.

My verdict: I think this is a wonderful product. It's multi functional, and you can really get away with just this, foundation, concealer, and mascara for a neutral, finished face. It's trans-seasonal, and has excellent staying power. The packaging is gorgeous, as is expected from Bobbi Brown. I believe this was just under $40
