Last night, I biked to The Danforth Music Hall to see Lowest of the Low play Shakespeare My Butt in its entirety, in order. For one night only, it was 1991 again.

This afternoon I took the subway to Christie Pits with my youngest son to take in the Toronto Maple Leafs game. Yasiel Puig, the controversial new Leaf, hit two home runs in front of a big crowd on a sunny Mother's Day.

Man, I loved the 1985 Toronto Blue Jays. Our manager was Bobby Cox, and I was very sad when he announced after the season he was leaving us for Atlanta.

Bobby Cox had a career record of 2,504-2,001 in 4,508 career games with three ties and a win-loss percentage of .556. He won the manager of the year four times. once with the Blue Jays in 1985, and three times with the Braves in 1991, 2004, and 2005. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.

On February 10, 2005, Custom a.k.a. Duane Lavold shared with me a new song he was working on called USA. On March 5 of that same year, he sent me this video.

Almost five years ago, Custom passed away. Lately I've been re-listening to the many, many unreleased tracks he shared with me over the years, and today I decided it was time to share the video for USA.

I'm a CBC fan, and a documentary fan, but I'm not sure I knew about CBC's Documentary Channel. It launched on September 7, 2001, primarily owned by Corus Entertainment, until Corus sold its shares to CBC in 2006. That gave CBC 82% ownership, with The National Film Board of Canada owning the bulk of the rest.

I'm told the Documentary Channel is going off the air on August 31, 2026.

I'm headlining at the El Mocambo two weeks today. Two short weeks. Here's how things are shaping up.

I'm done writing. My performance is crafted, so now I plan to more or less memorize it. I just have to find a little time to do that.

I've shared with Rob Preuss (Spoons, Honeymoon Suite) the musical cues. Rob is deciding now what he'll play for these parts. Note to self: jump on a Zoom with Rob.

I've secured my grand finale. Special guests are involved. No, I'm not telling you who will be jumping on stage with Rob and I for this exciting ending.

Here's how I envision this evening at The Starlight Room going:

7:00pm - Rob Preuss will entertain people by playing whatever the heck he wants
7:55pm - Rob Pruess will play a specific banger he co-wrote
8:00pm - I leap on stage, grab the mic, and I go until 9:30pm
9:30pm - Special guests! Grand finale!

Ted Turner was the founder of CNN, Turner Broadcast System (TBS) and Turner Network Television (TNT), but I'll remember him best as the owner of the Atlanta Braves who lost the 1992 World Series to my Toronto Blue Jays.

The Toronto Maple Leafs had an 8.5% chance of landing in the top spot in the 2026 NHL Draft, and that was enough to seal the deal. The Leafs won the lottery.

The Maple Leafs have picked first twice before, taking Wendel Clark in 1985 and Auston Matthews in 2016.
