Yesterday, I dropped episode 1907 of Toronto Mike'd. It was a rather wild and wonderfully bizarre romp with musician-turned-novelist David Baerwald.

Mere moments after I said goodbye to my guest, I hand-edited my XML file, as I've done for every episode since day one. Here's that block of code.

The full XML file, after yesterday's episode, is 34196 lines long, and that's how it will remain... on my laptop. After 14 years, I've hand-coded my last XML file. It's pretty amazing I made it this long, and I suspect no other podcast with as many episodes can make the same claim.

I'll publish Monday's episode with Kevin Newman following a completely different process that won't require a stitch of code.

Last September I wrote about the great Hudson & Rex controversy.

The original Detective Charlie Hudson, played by John Reardon, has also been replaced by Luke Roberts as Detective Mark Hudson.

Actor John Reardon is returning to “Hudson & Rex” for its ninth season, Citytv announced Thursday.

The Halifax native was the original star of the cop-dog procedural, but was replaced by English actor Luke Roberts in Season 8.

Reardon said in a social media post last year that he didn’t leave by choice, explaining he was diagnosed with tonsil cancer partway through Season 7 and underwent treatment. Doctors cleared him to return, he said, but “the team chose to go in a different direction.”

Fans worldwide responded with a wave of backlash, flooding the show’s social media accounts with comments and taking out full-page newspaper ads calling for Reardon’s reinstatement.

Reardon said in a statement that he’s “excited” to step back into the role of Charlie.

Claude Lemieux won four Stanley Cups with Montreal, Colorado, and twice with New Jersey. He made his final public appearance on Monday when he carried the pre-game torch into the Bell Centre prior to the Canadiens’ Game 3 against the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final.

My oldest daughter is a university graduate, and I'm very proud. It was my honour to spend hours at McGill's Tomlinson Fieldhouse just to see that 30 seconds when they announced my daughter's name and she walked on stage to receive her degree.

The weather in Montreal was perfect and we crammed a great deal into a whirlwind two-day stay. I'm typing this on a train heading home to Toronto.

Here's what we accomplished:

• we drank beer in Jeanne-Mance Park
• we ate smoked meat sandwiches and poutine at Schwartz's Deli
• we drank craft beer at a micro brewery in The Plateau
• we enjoyed Michelle's convocation
• we celebrated with lunch
• we spent time with Habs fans outside the Bell Centre
• we watched the game while drinking and eating at La Cage
• we walked ~40km

Congrats to my daughter, and to the thousands of Habs fans I saw, my humble apologies for bringing Leafs luck with me from Toronto.

As previously discussed, Marilyn Denis is retiring from 104.5 CHUM after 40 years co-hosting the morning show. I speculated that Bell Media would slide the afternoon drive show featuring Josie Dye and Jamar McNeil into the morning slot, and it seems I was only half correct.

Josie Dye will be replacing Marilyn Denis on the CHUM morning show, but she'll be joined by Nat Hunter who recently announced she was leaving the Move 103.5 Vancouver morning show.

David Corey, as predicted, will end his run on CHUM when Marilyn departs after her last broadcast on June 26, 2026.
