July 4th Parade – Independence Day, Fremont, CA, USA

On July 4, Independence Day, thousands of people watched the star spangled excitement of creative floats, specialty units, marching musical units and guest celebrities! This patriotic parade started at 10:00 a.m. sharp and completed in two hours to pass spectators along a one-mile route from the Library to Fremonts developing Downtown District featuring a differnet business district every year.

In 1999, the City of Fremont began hosting an annual 4th of July Parade in each of the original five historic township areas that came together in 1956 to form the – City of Fremont. In 2001, budget cutbacks forced the City to step aside in the funding and organization of these annual parades; but the citizens and greater Fremont area volunteers came together to keep the tradition going. The parade now rotates between five of the famous districts of Fremont.

ROUTE: The parade route starts at Library on Stevenson and heads north up Paseo Padre and turning left onto Liberty Street, and ends at State Street.

Kennedy Community Park, Union City, CA, USA

Kennedy Community Park is Union Citys largest community park. This park was named after Charles Kennedy, Union Citys first recreation director.

The park includes a beautiful, concrete memorial to Union City veterans of World War II, two play structures (one suitable for toddlers), a basketball court, an amphitheater, community center, teen center and four reservable picnic areas. The landscape is dotted with maple trees that surround the large grass area.

This park, which is conveniently located next to BART and Decoto Road has hosted many Union City events since its existence and is easily Union Citys most popular park.

A Ratha-Yatra or Roth Jatra or Chariot Festival is a Hindu festival that involves transporting deities on a chariot (called a ratha or roth). The festival originated in Puri in the State of Orissa. The rath(chariot) is carrying Lord Jaggannath and due to its massive size and weight and sometimes seeminlgy unstoppable nature.

The Ratha Yatra festival has become a common sight in most major cities of the world since 1968 through the ISKCON Hare Krishna movement.

Annual Carnaval San Francisco Grand Parade, San Francisco, CA, USA

Carnaval San Francisco is a beloved 3 day event featuring a Grand Parade and 2 day Festival, celebrating music and cultural elements from Latin American and Caribbean traditions.

Now in its third decade of celebration, Carnaval San Francisco has been an opportunity for many cultures to come together in one spirit to share their creative expression. Joined 3-Day event starting with Carnaval San Francisco at the SF Giants Orange Friday. Then celebrated with them at their FREE 2 day family festival in San Franciscos Mission District over Memorial Day weekend, May 24th and May 25th, where they showcased the very best Latin American and Caribbean cultural arts and traditions. Carnaval San Francisco is the largest multi cultural celebration on the West Coast.

On Sunday, May 25th, the Grand Parade started at 9:30am at the corner of 24th and Bryant Streets, where it proceeded West to Mission Street. From there, the parade heads North on Mission down to 17th Street, where it will turn East and flow into the Festival area.

This years theme is La Rumba de la Copa Mundial – Celebration of the World Cup. San Franciscos Mission District will be bursting with soccer, international music, dance, global cuisine and arts and crafts from the many countries that celebrate Carnaval. The 2 day Festival took place on Harrison Street between 16th and 24th Streets and included all of these and other fun activities and entertainment on every street corner for the entire family to enjoy.

The As and Mariners converged for a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday in Oakland to complete a four-game series.

Oakland last hosted such an event July 16, 2011, against the Angels, marking the only other time the O.co Coliseums seen one over the last 16 years.

Mariners beat Oakland, 6-4 in first game of doubleheader.

Oakland Athletics salvaged a split of a doubleheader by beating the Seattle Mariners 2-0 in the nightcap Wednesday.

Alameda County Apps Challenge 2014.1 at Dublin High School, Dublin, CA, USA

On December 8th 2012, the first ever Alameda County Apps Challenge or Hackathon #1 kicked off without a hitch at the Castro Valley Library. With 120 participants, 24 apps, and 3 awesome winners they all agreed ACApps Challenge 2012 was a huge success.

Because they received so much positive feedback and to continue the positive momentum of citizen participation and collaboration through the use of open data and technology that began in 2012, county decided to start a series of hackathons. Apps Challenge 2013.1 took place on April 27th, 2013.

Apps Challenge 2014.1 is the third in the series.

THE CHALLENGE – Use technology to improve local government. Tap into community pride and your activist spirit, bring your ideas and your technological know-how and take the Challenge. Showcase your own ideas or collaborate with others in your community to see how quickly and accurately you can design and create a software app or concept that addresses a community need in Alameda County.

THE GOAL – Learn about local government and the services that are provided and determine how you can make a difference.

* Join your peer designers, software developers, and innovators and participate in a day of fun, food, and technology.
* Using Alameda County datasets, Build, Design, Create, and Share new concepts and apps that will benefit local govt/people.
* Submitted apps can run on the web, or on mobile devices.
* Take home one of many awesome prizes for creating the best app and/or innovative concept.

Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, CA, USA

The Bridge connects San Francisco to Californias northern counties. With its tremendous 746-foot tall towers, sweeping main cables, signature International Orange color, and Art Deco styling, it is a sensory experience featuring color, light, and sound. With more than 10 million annual visitors, be ready for crowds (especially during the summer) and changing weather conditions.

The all new visitor experiences are centered around an all new Bridge Plaza at the south east end. The visitor experience was recently renovated and renewed by our non-profit partner, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, as their gift to the Golden Gate Bridge in honor if its 75th anniversary which was celebrated on May 27, 2012.

Taking public transit to the Golden Gate Bridge is the best way to get to the Bridge because parking is extremely limited and construction projects occurring at or near the Bridge.

Ocean Beach, San Francisco, CA, USA

Picture a 3.5-mile stretch of white beach with few tourists and no highrises. It’s just you and the waves and the seabirds at Ocean Beach, on the westernmost border of San Francisco, adjacent to Golden Gate Park. Great for strolling and flying kites, but the water is frigid and the currents hazardous for all but the most experienced surfers.

The sunniest months for a beach walk are September and October.

The beach is almost always covered in fog throughout late spring and summer, with average temperatures in the 50s.

Fire rings were installed in April 2007 as a way to allow and enjoy fires on the beach.

San Franciscos Union Square Macys welcomes spring with the annual Macys Flower Show, a gift to the city of San Francisco and surrounding Bay Area. The Secret Garden, this years floral extravaganza, will offer spectators a peek behind the magic and majesty of a variety of lush landscapes. Macys Flower Show will showcase two weeks of in-store special events, with music, fashion, cooking and D-I-Y demonstrations that will delight floral fanatics while celebrating the rejuvenating power of the season. The gardens include: The Abandoned Estate, Maze Garden, Junkyard Garden, and Rooftop Gardens. The rooftop-themed gardens will showcase multiple concepts, including fruits and vegetables, wild flowers, Southwest cactus, Zen, tropical and a formal garden placed within San Francisco scenery.
