Honestly I thought this was just going to be another “untold story” of Cap vs. the Nazi’s who somehow teams up with Black Panther in the middle and they kick Nazi @$$ together!

Boy was I wrong!

Well actually I was kinda right because that will probably roll out to be the bare bones of this story but the writing in this story is phenomenal! Hudlin does a superb job of really emphasizing fan favorite characteristics in each of the classic heroes and villians.
Cap is the genuinely good guy bleeding red, white and blue, Hiltler and the Nazi’s are all D-Bags, Fury and his Howling Commandos are rough around the edges trained killers, Baron Strucker is his one eyed diabolical self and Black Panther is the confident martial arts mastering monarch everyone loves.
This is a great story for anyone who picks it up period and the sketchy art by Cowan really does a nice job of complimenting the story.

Looking forward to issue #2,
~Steve

This machine delivers a good aerobic workout, it’s very easy to put together and does well at serving it’s purpose with a very low level of tightening maintenance and is overall a good value for for the price.

Pros:

We’ve had this machine for a little over a month now and I am pretty happy with it, especially for the price. My wife and I use it everyday and it has delivered a great workout as expected for an elliptical. It’s also not too big, some of these machines can be bulky and take up too much space but this machine is easily stored and used comfortably in a 3’x5′ space. The digital display is pretty standard offering all the basics along with an estimated caloric burn.

Cons:

Being an affordable personal use machine it isn’t super solid those you see in gyms and can become loud and creaky, but that can be somewhat alleviated by tightening the key bolts and joints that move most often while in use. I’m about 5’10" and the stride length is a bit short for me but it still does the job.

Here’s hoping I lose a few more pounds thanks to this baby,
~Steve

Here’s the thing, I dig Captain America and in the regular series I think Brubaker has done a really great job but I am just plain disappointed in this series. We all knew Steve was coming back and personally I think they did an decent job, time wise, in how long he’s been gone but this was not A game Captain America. The portion of the book when Rogers and Red Skull are having a battle of the brains was way under developed. Come ON! These guys are arch enemies and they have all of 5 water skimming lines of dialogue while they are fighting for their lives and control of Captain America’s body!?! Good lord! They might as well have been saying:

"I hate you"
"No, I hate YOU"
"Well I hate you more"
"Nuh uh I hate YOU more"
"Well your Mom’s a (expletive deleted)"

Right? You get the point.

Maybe it’s my fault. Maybe I expected too much. Maybe I should have waited for the TPB instead of wasting $24 on the series. Or maybe I should have just checked out the 10 different books Steve Rogers showed up in BEFORE THIS SERIES WAS COMPLETE!!! (okay, three exclamation points is a bit much and 10 books may be an exaggeration but COME ON)

Going to go read Green Lantern to get out of this funk,
~Steve

That was my review on Comixology.com and you’d think that would be enough but, as you can see, I’m not too happy. So, where else to vent your frustrations but FACEBOOK?

This was a good issue #1. The story is solid, they had to bring back Wolverine somehow right? So instead of resurrecting him they bring in the son to fill daddies shoes in the Ultimate Universe, that I can dig. The only question is, who is Jimmy’s mother? Kitty mentions Colossus when his claws are magically covered by what I’m assuming is adamantium but last time I checked AHHnold was the last man to carry a baby in his man uterus. The cover option were so so nothing really too impressive but this is a really solid book overall.

Ok, sometimes the crap that pops up on the MSN.com homepage (that I’ve been forced to read due to it being the default homepage on my PC, and my general laziness) is entertaining enough to click and maybe read before I move on to Google. But not today! Today I pop on the web and I have to see this CRAP:

Knee jerk reaction: ‘You’ve got to be $%&#ing kidding me!’. But of course I follow along behind the rest of the cattle and click this junk to find this intro:

Poets, publicists and psychiatrists all have their candidates for the bleakest time of the year. According to one equation devised by Dr. Cliff Arnall, a British researcher from Cardiff University, Jan. 18 is 2010’s most depressing day. His formula for this bleak prediction takes into account factors like post-holiday blahs and debt, failed New Year’s resolutions and, this year, the nasty chill that has reached much further south than usual. This particular peak in seasonal affective disorder (SAD) isn’t the only time that we’re prone to feeling low.

Research also indicates that new antidepressant prescriptions peak around Thanksgiving and suicide rates are highest during the spring. If April is a difficult month for your mood, this correlates to T.S. Eliot’s choice, characterized as "the cruellest month."

So what can you do if you are feeling the winter blues—and how do you know when you should seek help? – MSN.com

I wasn’t depressed before, BUT I AM NOW!

Let me rephrase these ‘technical terms’ used by Head Shrink Arnall:

Post-Holiday blahs = Longest most terrible hangover of the year (all two weeks of it)
Post-Holiday Debt = The realization that you blew two months rent on presents for people you don’t like, and motorized hamsters for their snot nosed kids
Failed New Year’s Resolutions = As if the statistics of 65% of American’s being over weight and 16 million being severely poor wasn’t enough; you’ve already failed at a goal you set for your self two weeks ago…keep up the hard work and dedication!
Seasonal Affective Disorder = A made up way of saying the ‘rain rain go away’ song had an adverse effect on you as a child (huge exasperated sigh here)

And if you, like me, are depressed 2 1/2 weeks into the new year just remember: you could be living in Haiti…or Canada.

Cheers,
~Steve V

If you read comics like I do, and you’d have to be reading a lot of comics, you would know that any time Marvel or DC comes out with their newest “EVENT” there are about three times more covers than actual books. Now, every once in a while I’ll see a variant cover before the book is released that I really like; and I actually pick up a variant cover even less.

So, Blackest Night is no exception BUT so far my two favorite covers has been the standard covers! Variants be damned!

I love reading comics. So, much so that I constantly have comics laying around that need reading. As the old adage says, “So many comics, so little time”…wait…yeah.

Anyways, when I read mass amounts of comics all at once, I usually have one page throughout my reading that seems to jump out at me. This time it happened to be pg16 of Batman #623.

This is a great page. The red is so vivid against the black back drop. Then right in the middle of the page you see young Bruce’s tears flowing from his downturned eyes, the feeling of sadness there is palpable. The next section all you see is the hands of Bruce’s parents reaching up to him, just reaching his fingertips; the imagery here is powerful, while he is powerless to help them there is still a connection and love portrayed by the slightest touch.

The dialog here is also amazing. This is a dream sequence, one of the many had by Bruce of his parents murder, and they are giving him advice about the current case he is working on. While in the dream the parents are “speaking” it’s important to remember that this is really Bruce going through the case in his mind incorporated into a dream; and that is part of what makes this panel so good. This same scrutiny could have been made while Batman sat poised among the rooftops speaking aloud to himself or even as a thought, and yet the artist , Eduardo Risso, and the writer, Brian Azzarello, have turned something that could have been ‘just another page in a comic book’ into art.

For your viewing pleasure:

Not concerned that I read too much into it because ‘for me’ it was all that was written above,
~Steve
