‘ONWA ASA’ (THE SEVENTH MONTH) FESTIVAL IN OBOLLO

The cultural zone of Nsukka, Obollo in particular celebrates Onwa Asa festival every year between the month of June and July. The remarkable thing is that masquerade use to be everywhere in town. This is the time of traditional men use to re-engages different gods according to their faiths and belief. This practice has been there before the coming of the Europeans that brought Christianity. Though being overtaken by the Christian faiths.

The joy of the festival has been the watch of different masquerades like Okpokwu, Akatakpa, Ukwuidenyi, Ogerenyi Akatakpa, Oke-ikpe, Onyeyiko maru and the rest of others.

The bad aspect of the masquerade not the festival is the fetish aspect of its vendetta.

A UNIVERSITY DON WINS PRESIDENCY OF OBOLLO YOUTHS ASSEMBLY OF NIGERIA.

The much awaited election of Obollo Youths Assembly of Nigeria (OYAN) has come and gone. Mr Longinus Odo emerged winner as the President of the noble organization. Mr. Odo, a university lecturer, happily married with kids has promised to give the association a face lift. He invited members to join hand in building and re-building the association for good.

The post of Vice president went to Mr. Ikemefuna Ebonyi. Ebonyi who has been a strong member of the OYAN and had also served in in past administrations is expected to invest his wealth of experience towards the growth of the OYAN.

Other posts were distributed as follows: Secretary General - Mr. Festus Ugwuokpe; the Assistant Secretary – Mr. habert Ogbu; Financial Secretary – Mr. Chinedu Ebonyi; Treasurer – Mr. Titus Ifeanyi Nnadi; P.R.O – Mr. Celestine Ugwu; Chief Provost – Mr. Monday Ugwu while the his assistant is Mr. Stanley Odo.

Mr. Julius Ugwu who was the outgoing President expressed happiness on the peaceful manner of the election. He will perform the official handover come February 2015.

ELECTION OF NEW EXCO FOR OBOLLO YOUTHS ASSEMBLY: THINGS WE NEED TO KNOW

The Obollo Youths Assembly of Nigeria is expected to elect her new leaders come November 2015 for the next three years.

Mr. Julius Ugwu is the current President of the Group. Mr ugwu is from Obollo-Afor zone and going by the constitution of the Group is expected to roll out plans in time to effect smooth transition.

The new President will emerge from Obollo-Eke zone all things being equal.

The search for the next replacement of Mr. President is on and has been a matter of discuss among the members and other interest groups. Likely who?

The group needs a focused person who can take the association to the next level. A person who can devote time to treat issues with merit it deserves. An innovative and dynamic leader to be. Unbiased minded trustworthy and sincere personality.

As people are watching to see the outcome of this important election, the elites of Obollo people are not left behind as it helps to shape some cultural decision making in Obollo land.

In the past, the campaign for OYAN Executive council election has no difference with the furors and sagas of local government election. Will it be the same thing this time around? Bar staging as usual? I presume the ideology has to change if a good leader is expected.

I will keep you posted on the development while you pray for a reliable President of OYAN to emerge.

Mr Chinedu Ebonyi, a member of Obollo Youths Assembly of Nigeria, from Ada Obollo Etiti in Udenu LGA of Enugu state Nigeria, invited us, to his traditional marriage ceremony with Eberechukwu Odo of Ibenda Obollo autonomus community. The date was 26th APRIL, 2014 @ Mr John Odo Ezeme family compound at Ngelokpo Ibenda Obollo, Udenu LGA. The function started by 12pm prompt and was also well attended by dignitaries.
subsequently, on Saturday, the 8th November, 2014 @ Holy Cross Parish Iji Nike by 9.00am Nigerian time CHINEDU wedded EBERE. The reception was @ NAOWA Primary School, 82 Division Nigerian Army Barracks, Enugu state. Color of the day: Lemon, Orange & Peppe Red. HAPPY WEDLUCK EDU/EBERE.

In Obollo land, marriage is said to have taken place when the traditional breaking of kola-nut is performed and exchange of traditional palm wine is witnessed. White wedding or church wedding is a western culture though it complements due to religious belief. While the eldest man officiates in the processes of traditional wedding, the priest or man of God officiates in the white wedding. The common thing between the two weddings is that vow is taken.

On Saturday 18th April, 2009 @ Isi-enu Amutenyi Obollo-eke, in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State Nigeria, a history is being made as Mr Tony Nnadi will be celebrating with the company of obollo youths, for his traditional marriage (igba-nkwu).

The prestigious Obollo Youths Assembly of Nigeria (OYAN) will be on April 13th 2009, being Easter Monday, celebrates the wedding ceremony of CHIOMA EMILIA & CHUKWUDI LONGINUS @ Nobility hall, Royal Palace hotel, Agbani Road, Enugu, Enugu state Nigeria after exchange of marital vow @ St. Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

The ceremony which is not without cultural identity of Obollo, will among other things reflect the tradition of Obollo and witness the influx of who is who in Obollo and beyond.

It will also be another day for the rank and files in education industries to roll out in their styles to give honor to who the cap fits.

We don't need to measure our progress by how much our virtues differ from our ancestors. Courage and integrity are always contemporary. They don't need to be reformed to reflect can be made to define them. Doing so serves. We need to examine virtues to appreciate their value and to discover their relevance. It's healthy therefore to ask, "What is integrity? Or what does it mean to be courageous?" But to deny their efficacy is imbecility.
Thus, it's also important that we distinguish virtues from values, though both are volatile. They result from one group's ability to christen behavior. In this regard, they find their relevance in the praise or penalty imposed. In examining virtues, we also challenge their relevance.
We don't simply ask, "What does it mean to be courageous or virtuous?" We further propose, "Are these virtues valid for our world?" Ethically, however, we forget that virtues are transcendent. They may be more evident in one era yet they are timeless. Their relevance rests on their efficacy, historically and philosophically.
Moreover, virtues unlike values aren't democratic. They may be interpreted so, but they exist independently within every soul. This centering gives each the right to judge the other. That's why morals are celebrated and censured together. Yet the practice of each nurtures the ethical. Ideal virtues prove our capacity to achieve the extraordinary --values don't. Values can be annulled and denied their efficacy. They can be celebrated at breakfast and abandoned at lunch.
Values ornament life and are often derivatives of virtues whose value eludes. They are trendy and arbitrary styles of living, but not the substance of life, which is what virtues are. Virtues fuse life giving it moral clarity and ethical continuity. They are the continuum that connects historically. They are contiguous because they withstand all attempts to be overturned.
When ignored --all are punished-- actor and innocent alike. Virtues reveal the law of consequences and help us to understand its relationship. One age may reject them but another will cite this rejection as the cause of decay. We don't need to measure our evolution by how far we've traveled from traditional mores. Virtues are always vogue.
They are eternally contemporary. We may debate their character or define their scope. But we err when we deny their efficacy. To be progressive is to value virtues as essential. Like air and water, we should not pollute them and expect to retain the quality of life purity provides

Leadership principles are well-known and many leaders are indeed, phenomenal in business, government and military, but a leader that can work with volunteers in a non-profit group and get maximum productivity and efficiency out of their team, well, that's a special kind of leader, one, which we should all take notice of.
Let's face it, we live in a capitalistic society and we normally are quite comfortable with paying for performance. But in a nonprofit endeavor there often is never enough money to pay for performance, rather the non-profit sector leader must ignite the passion of the workers to join together in a common cause; easier said than done.
A leader in this position must gain the respect from his or her team by paying attention to their personal needs and understanding what makes them individuals. A true non-profit leader will know the names of every worker's spouse, children and even the family pets. If you doubt this, then find a successful nonprofit leader and ask them about their workers and their families, ask them if they know the names of their dogs. I bet they do.
There are some remarkable leaders in the nonprofit sector, true leaders that really motivate and it is really amazing their abilities, sincerity and their team's accomplishments. Of course, there are also many that run things with a Machiavellian flair, but really they have a tough time with it and often, end up leaving a trail of debris, before they move on to another leadership position elsewhere.
