Happy Belated New Year !!! We have some exciting new things to share with you - so please forgive our silence over the past few months. A new blog, updates to our website and some exciting new product in our Etsy and Print Shop are just around the corner.
Thanks for bearing with us during our blog hiatus!
Come visit our table this weekend at Brooklyn Craft Central! We'll be selling our letterpress notecards and prints, holiday card sets, screenprinted onesies and toddler T's, and our newest projects: mounted letterpress clocks and monoprints. Check 'em out!
These monoprints were made using a combination of printing techniques. Letterpress printing with polymer, metal blocks, and wood type forms the first layer of the print, which is then fed through a digital printer. Found and scanned imagery, typography, sketches, and photographs interact with the impression from the woodblocks to form a completely unique image. No two are exactly alike!
The letterpress clocks are fully functional and mounted on lightweight wooden bases.
Our letterpress prints are trimmed to 8" x 10" so they are easily framed and ready to give as a unique holiday gift!

Last month I had the privilege to travel to Two Rivers, Wisconsin, and attend a conference at Hamilton Wood Type Museum (thank you Vanessa). People came from around the globe, to learn about wood type, it's history, and also what is going on in the printing world.
Throughout the weekend, we attended presentations and also had hands-on printing demos. It was an all around wonderful trip, and I was able to meet some great people involved in letterpress. I highly recommend visiting if you are ever in Wisconsin, even if you have no interest in printing. It is a very interesting and special place.

Below are a few images I captured from my time there.

I'm sure we have all come across a 404 page at some point. A 404 page is the default page when a web viewer goes to the wrong place. In most cases it directs the user back to ground zero (your home page). Not only can a 404 page be very helpful, it is a great oppurtunity for web designers and developers to have a little fun! Here are a few examples of some good ones.
Ever see an advertisement or billboard that just lights you up inside or made you chuckle? Every once in a while during our daily lives we'll witness something that'll change our sentiment. Be it a picture, an act of kindness or a sunny morning that goes perfectly well. Yay Everyday is the perfect place for all sorts of weird, quirky and inspirational photos.
I love the variety of the photos. Some with photo shop and some with just raw intensity.
Above is a real father and son. He made this for his little one to appreciate one day.
Notice the alphabet carefully whittled into each pencil point.
Awesome painting by graffiti artist Banksy
And below is my favorite one that I've found on Yay! Everyday. A mystical trail of fireflies.
Give Yay! Everyday a looksy and discover you're favorite inspirational picture. You can even submit your very own. Your children laughing, the sun setting on the water or whatever moves you. Everyone appreciates something different, so check it out.

Nope - it isn't root beer! But it is delicious!!!
ROOT is a bourbon-like drink that is the creation of the very talented group Art in the Age. Marketed as the "First truly authentic American liqueur since the Pre-Prohibition Era", this stuff will really knock your socks off. (Read the full history here). Root is made from all organic ingredients (like birch bark, sassafras and nutmeg) - so stock up for the Holidays. You can go to their site and check out their bar locator (pretty handy!) OR check out some awesome recipes here. I enjoy it in some warm drinking chocolate!!!
P.S. - they also make SNAP :)

Details magazine made my eyes pop when I stumbled upon an old June/July edition featuring St. Louie born artist Erika Iris Simmons. Her "Ghost In The Machine" series are simply amazing. Since her debut in 2008, Erika has found a creatively enticing way to merge pop culture, conceptual art & craftiness. While at the same time recycling once important cassette tapes and film reels.
"The times they ARE a-changin" for sure.
I love the African spray painted tape to coordinate with the Peace Master Rasta himself, Bob Marley.
Oh Fred Astaire! You gotta love a man that has moves. With beautiful Ginger Rogers dancing out of an old 8mm film reel.
Beethoven. Erika actually tried keeping much of the notes in tact, so you can still read portions of it in his hair, face & jacket.
Simmons also does custom work for people and will include any object that coincides with the portrait that she's doing. A custom job will run you about $1200 and up. 'But every case is different' as she puts it. An average cassette tape portrait 16x20 inches goes for around $1800 and take nearly 2 weeks to create. The price and the wait is worth it if you ask me though. The work is deeply impressive and to have a personal one of yourself and/or a loved one would just be literally stunning.
If you have a chance you absolutely must check out her website for yourself, and please be tempted to inquire about your own custom work.

I'm putting this on my holiday wish list right now.

I am happy to announce that I am back to Two Paperdolls after the recent birth of my daughter, Mila Ash. This little person of 6 pounds, 4 ounces came into the world on July 19. It has been a wild ride of sleepless nights, blow outs and giggles. I love being a mom. It's really fascinating how she is half of my husband, and myself, but completely her own individual.
Here are some newborn shots taken when she was only 10 days old:

She has grown up quite a bit since then! Here is my flower on Halloween:
