Published on INCENSE Vol.I, Issue 3, December 2007

TEACHING: THE SECRET LAWS OF THE KINGDOM - Matthew 13:1-52

By Sis. Shiella Natoel

Introduction

Jesus introduce parable as a means of teaching “Kingdom” truths (vs.10,11). The purpose of the parables was to make spiritual truths clearer to hearers; to put the truth in a form easily remembered; to avoid offense with hostile people who would not receive the truth, and to declare judgment upon those who were willfully blind. Those inclined to believe found the parable an encouragement to their faith; those to incline to reject Christ would be confirmed on their unbelief, just as Isaiah had predicted. (Matt. 13:14-15, Isa. 6:9-10)

Mystery (as mentioned in vs. 11 and Mark 4:11) – Greek “Musterion” means something formerly hidden but now revealed, which people cannot understand except by divine revelation. The mystery of the Kingdom of God means that the kingdom of God has come in the person of Jesus Nazareth, on His words and works, a kingdom which began to penetrate the human situation in a new way and through His ministry, which awaits ultimately consummation at the end of the age. Only by faith can one recognize in the lowly figure of Jesus of Nazareth, the manifestation of God’s rule. Gaining a grasp of this “mystery” is the theme for the parables.

Body

Of the 40 parables Jesus gave, He made direct references to the Kingdom in vs. 19. “When anyone hears the word of the Kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.”
These stories clearly relate to different time frames. Some impact the present teaching:

1.  The need for the kingdom people to have hearing  ears                 {vv.3-23}
2. The breadth of the kingdom’s spread {vv. 31-35}
3. .the cost of the kingdom’ acquisition {vv. 44-46}

Other relate to the future teaching:

1. the final disposing of the first of the Adversary’s hindrance {vv.36-43}
2.The final imposition of the mixed in gathering from kingdom outreach {vv.47-51}.

In mixing these two aspects of the “Kingdom” as both present and prospective. The message of the kingdom is two-edged and related to two frames of time:

1. God in Christ, is now recovering man from his double loss relationship with God and of ruler-ship under God. He promised this at man’s fall, illustrated in patriarchs and Israel’s history, and now the king has come to begin fully bringing it about. The Kingdom is being realized presently, in partial and personal ways, as it is spread through all the Earth by Holy Spirit’s power in the church.

2. The Kingdom will be realized finally in consummate and conclusive ways only at the return of Jesus Christ and by His reign over all the Earth. What we experience of His triumph now, in part, will then be fully manifested. (1Cor. 15:24; Rev.11:15; 1 Cor.1:13). This complete view allows for our understanding and applying the principles of “Kingdom come,” without into the confusion of expecting now what the Bible says will only be then. (John 3:1-5; Col. 1:13).

Let’s look at the seven (7) parables that were taught by Jesus:

1. First Parable—The Law of Fruit Bearing according to soil (Matt. 13:3-9). Its central message is that the gospel of the kingdom will meet with varying levels of success in the human heart. The significance of soil (13:18:23) shows that the entrance to God’s kingdom is a matter of individual response (Mark 4:1-20; Luke 8:4-15). The four kinds of soil described are but from kinds of human hearts, the soil into which the seed of the kingdom truth us to be received and become fruitful.

2. Second Parable—The Law of the good and bad growing together (vv.24-30). The central message of this parable is that the consummated kingdom of God will be different from the present Kingdom will be in a perfected environment of only sons of the Kingdom. Currently, sons of the kingdom and sons of Evil one live together in human society. And this is true:

a. in all human hearts– saints and sinners.
b. in all relations of life—private and public
c. in all the churches and groups of Christians

3. Third Parable— The Law of the Incalculable growth of the Kingdom (vv.31-32). The parable of mustard seed teaches the destined greatness of the Kingdom. The kingdom fulfilled by Jesus now looks insignificant, but its greatness will be apparent in the consummation at the end of age. This means that we have to recognize that faith is decision and obedience rather than ability. Also, understand that obedient faith releases Holy Spirit power to accomplish the task.

4. Fourth Parable– The Law of the Transforming power of kingdom truths (vs. 33). Once truly planted in the human life, it will go on, night and day, year in and year out, changing and transforming the whole life, working automatically and incessantly. At the present is not fully manifested, but at the consummation in the Age to come, it will be known to all. Meanwhile, it does its work of permeating human society, penetrating evil and transforming lives.

5. Fifth Parable– The Law of Discovery and Proper Appreciation of Kingdom truths{v.44).

a. One must make a personal discovery of the great kingdom truths before one can
appreciate them.
b. Once really discovered and understood, however, the process of evaluation and appreciation of these truths grows upon the soul until they become supreme. Meaning we have to recognize that the kingdom of God requires your highest commitment. Understand that the kingdom is worth more than any other pursuit. Be ready to forsake personal goal that hinders your entering into it.

6. Sixth Parable— The Law of the Sacrifice of the lower values of live for the higher
values of the kingdom, (vv.45-46)

a. This law runs through the whole natural life and world.
b. It is equally present in power in the spiritual world.

The parable of the hidden treasure and the pearl of the great price both stress the superlative value of the kingdom. A common interpretation is that a person should be willing to part with everything in order to possess the kingdom. However, the meaning could be that Jesus is the purchaser who gave His all to secure the kingdom (Acts 20:28).

7. Seven Parable– The Law of the final separation of the good and the bad (vs.47-52).

a. If the good and the bad are now found everywhere together, we maybe assured by
their great law that, ultimately, the good and the bad will be separated.
b. The life of the bad as well as the good demands a final separation of the two.

Conclusion

Jesus followers will understand the lessons taught by parables or will be stimulated to probe for deeper understanding. Those who had already shot their eyes and ears to the truths will not restore the significance of what they are seeing and hearing, consequently will not repent and receive forgiveness. But Christ’s redemption brings us to place of completeness; that is of spiritual adequacy, authority or ability to live victoriously over and above the invisible powers of darkness (vv, 14-16,2:6-10). This becomes functionally true:

1. Live and love as citizens of heavenly kingdom. (Phil.3:20)
2. Utilize this kingdom’s currency, which is irresistible value (Acts 3:6)
3. Operate as ambassadors authorized to offer kingdom peace and reconciliation to
those who are yet in Christ (2 Cor. 5:20).
4. Serve as kingdom militia, girded for prayerful conflict against the dark powers
controlling so much of this present world (Eph. 6:16-20).

The terminology of the kingdom holds more poetic pictures. It is practically applicable to all our living. Let the kingdom of God be with us always.

Published on INCENSE Vol. I, Issue 3, December 2007

The Essence of Christmas: The Best Gift to Mankind

By Yasmin Felix-Alcordo

One of the most frequent asked questions in a beauty contest is “What is the essence of a woman?” And the most frequent answer would be, “Bearing and nurturing a child in the womb.” Perceiving the jubilant faces of hundreds or thousands or even millions of expectant women around the world— the answer speaks for itself. But the feeling was not mutual with Mary . When the angel of God announced to her that she will conceive a child, Mary was troubled, afraid and astonished as she asked “How will this be, I am a virgin.” {Luke 1:34} Maybe, she was also thinking about her forthcoming betrothal to Joseph. Yet obedient as she was, after hearing the explanation of the angel, she said “I am your servant, may it be unto me as you have said.” {Luke 1:38} Thus, the first Christmas happened more than two-thousand years ago— born the Christ, the Savior, the child named Jesus—the best gift mankind ever had.

All of us in one way or another, expect a gift during Christmas. Mine happened months ago. It was such a casual talk between me and Veronica Young after the saturation drive for CIBAC. She asked me if I could help her come-up with a newsletter, which will promote or tackle the activities of the soon to be launched Fasting Intercession Team, a sub - ministry of WIN which she is the coordinator. Immediately, I said yes, made the lay-out ,including the articles and topics that will comprise the paper. The newsletter originally intended solely for FIT was named Faithfully Fit, which was changed to INCENSE, a suggestion from Arlene Bulala now our associate editor.

Incense- NIV( New International Version) bible defines it as a collection of spices that is burned to worship God. It produces a sweet smell( Exodus 30 : 1-10 and Mathew 2: 7-12). “These spices could be the prayers and circumstances that we bring and offer before Him.” Arlene reiterates. The purpose of Incense as a paper is to glorify God and win souls for His kingdom through the written genre. A ministry which is a gift for me, whom after heeding numerous altar calls of commitment and restoration, still unsure of what ministry to be involved with, for Arlene whom even in her college days dreamt of a newsletter an endeavor –inked byGod, for Veron whose thirst to learn something new, never ceases, and for the rest of the staff to be used by God aside from their other ministries.

Every issue of Incense is a struggle, an activity of trial and error because of our limited time, limited resources, limited knowledge in the field of journalism , limited skills of the English language and unresolved inner and personal conflicts. Serving the Lord through Incense is a bittersweet experience. A true gift from God.

This Christmas issue is not devoid of such struggles. Motivation is at the lowest ebb, resulting to almost abandoning the paper. However, a spark of inspiration happened just like Archimedes, as he exclaimed Eureka! - upon discovering the method of the purity of gold—ideas shoot-up , assigned articles pour in.

It is always a delight to read the contribution of every staff and contributor. All articles are meaningful, uplifting to the soul, inspiring and enlightening. Isn’t Christmas all about those things? Truly, one attribute of Christmas is surprises.

As we immerse ourselves in the physical celebration of the birth of Jesus, let us remember the first Christmas, so simple yet so glorious that even a great company of heavenly host together with the angels sang: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests. (Luke 2:13-14} Let us also remember the three wise men who traveled from a very far distance, with only the star as their guide, with the purpose of delivering their gifts and to worship the new-born child Jesus.

Yes, God has done His part, He has bestowed the world His most precious gift, His son Jesus. In fact, the birth of Jesus is the starting point of God’s plan for the salvation of mankind. In return, all we have to do is to accept the Gift, and as our gift to Him, we give ourselves, our purpose , our adorations, our life.

Indeed, It’s gift-giving time!

                    MERRY CHRISTMAS

Published on INCENSE Vol.I, Issue 3, December 2007

JIL-Church Area 17 hits 17th Year

By Arlene Bulala

“ One Mission...One Vision for which we are called and chosen …for which a church is built …

a church has given birth to another until a JIL Church Area 17 is born .”

A prelude to the beating drums, striking lyres and pounding cheers that fired the
Jesus Is Lord ( JIL) - Area 17 17th year.

Go winners, go !

JIL Parañaque church presented its four chapters: San Martin, Sun Valley , Sucat and Quirino including the satellite church– Doña Soledad. Inclined with the theme “Win the Prize” (Philippians 3: 13-14), Pastor Joey Crisostomo, the Guest Speaker , emphasized that a Christian must win the heaven’s gold medal in a race. This race , as he explained, refers to the Christian life that involves the ups and downs in serving God but still pursues through God’s unfailing strength. He exhorted that Christians are runners in this race and in order to win is to run with passion , with focus and with determination. He encouraged each of God’s children to persevere. Never quit! “Ipinapangako nyo ba … that you would still continue the race?”, as the Speaker challenged the Pastors.

Ptr. Gilbert Macades said that this year's theme is continuance of the previous theme (Philippians 1:6) where Christians life is compared to a race. An Olympic set-up highlighted that as Christians we should not only finish the race but also win the prize– doing God’s purpose in our life with flying colors. To prophetically conclude the celebration Pastor Jeric Magallanes, JIL Parañaque ’s Pastor-in-Charge , together with the Pastors of the different chapters, lead the congregation in an oath taking declaring the God’s victory.

The 17th anniversary was aired last Sunday, Dec. 02 at 6:00 in the morning at GMA 7, and likewise at 12 midnight of the same date at QTV 11.

Published on INCENSE Vol.I, Issue 3, December 2007

Ptr. As I always say, it is not the giftedness of a leader that prompts God’s blessing, but the willingness to move when and where God indicates. As we live in this most prophesied generation, let us allow God to use our lives for His utmost glory. The coming year is a transition from mission impossible to mission accomplished. It is not how difficult a task is but how much faith we have. God puts no limitation in faith, but faith limits the move of God in our lives. I encourage everyone to be a person who will do great exploits for God. Jeric Magallanes

Living a victorious spiritual life requires a consistency of purpose. The Apostle Paul’s desire to experience the fullness of Christ's resurrection power became the controlling factor in his life. His words "I press toward the mark" (Philippians 3:14) describe a runner racing hard with his head forward, body bent, and eyes on nothing but the final tape. Such was Paul's fervent attitude in reaching out toward the spiritual goals of service and blessing. If we would show the same oneness of purpose, we would likewise be filled with joy, experience victory over sin and trials, and possess a deeper sense of God's presence.

Let us press toward "the prize of the high calling of God"!

Published on INCENSE Vol. I, Issue 3, December 2007

A testimony by the Lorena family

By Yasmin Felix-Alcordo

A family that prays and serves the Lord together is blessed - and stays praising God together.

The Lord is good, His love endures forever (Psalm 136:1).
He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

These are just two of the promises of the Lord that the Lorena family hold - on to in their daily walk with God — along with prayer. It was the start of the family's commitment to Jesus Is Lord Church. The born-again experience of Yolly was followed by her children Grettel, Maythell and Jhondel. Her husband Freddie met the Lord in Saudi Arabia, where he worked. Now the family commits in music and dancing ministries in which they are used mightily.

The Blessings: Tremendous and Never—ceasing.

Freddie Lorena was able to work in Saudi Arabia, a long standing prayer of the family. They were able to purchase their own land and now they are leaving in their very own house. Two of the three children are in college and the youngest will also be in college next school year. The provision of the Lord never ends. However, more than the material blessings, the Lord bestowed the family invaluable blessings that cannot be counted and stolen. Sis. Yolly learns to control her emotion particularly her outburst and anger, she no longer participates in the community gossips which she used to do, she learns to fast and most of all, she learns to give her tithes to the Lord. Freddie Lorena is doing well in his work. Likewise, the children are mightily used in the ministry.

Victories: Miracles after miracles

The family is not exempted from trials. Yet everyday, they experience small and big victories. A lump in the breast of Yolly was removed successfully and was diagnosed as benign, Maythell was operated because of appendicitis just in time before it ruptured. Healing from ordinary sicknesses is fast. The Lord provides for their needs ,and at times even their wants.

Prayers and Goals

The family never cease to pray for their other relatives. One of their goals is to see all their relatives praising and worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ.

Words of Encouragement

God is good and powerful. He knows the deepest desires of our hearts. Give everything to Him,your time, your tithes, everything that is in you and just let Him manage your life.

Purihin ang Panginoong Hesus.

Truly a family that trusts in the Lord together is blessed and a blessing to others.

Published on INCENSE Vol. I, Issue 3, December 2007

A Night of Praise and Worship

By Veronica Young

The music and arts ministries will serenade the congregation of JIL-Sun Valley through its Christmas celebration dubbed as: “A Night of Praise and Worship”. on December 21, at 7:00 in the evening. This is another showcase of singing and dancing abilities as the participants shove and move to the music that delights and gyrate the spirit, all for the glory of God.

The Christmas special is composed of familiar praise and worship songs, that the congregation have known by heart. This will also feature exhortations from different speakers using the multi-media technology.

This celebration is also a reminiscence of the first Christmas when a company of heavenly hosts with the angels sang praises and worship in celebration of the birth of the Lord.

Published on INCENSE Vol. I, Issue 3, December 2007

Salamat ………. He had the power to destroy life and even approved the stoning of Stephen (Acts 8:1a). Until he met the Lord on his way to Damascus. Paul became blind and was healed by the people whom he planned to kill. The encounter totally changed his life from the persecutor to the persecuted. He left a life of affluence, experienced getting hungry, hunted, put to prison because of his zealousness for his newfound faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul’s drive for excellence never falter until the end of his life.

JIL– Sun Valley had a very humble beginning. The church started in a small prayer meeting in Villa Paraiso with 5 to 10 attendees, expanded to a cell group in the backyard of the Manalo family in Edison. Until eventually, a church made of nipa was built in Villa Paraiso. Today, JIL-Sun Valley church continues to strive to please God through changed lives, excellent worship and pure service worthy of the calling entrusted by God Almighty for the fulfillment of His plan in this place.

What do Michael Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, Job, Apostle Paul and JIL-Sun Valley have in common? They strive to excel still more! Each did not stop in the middle of the race, but continue to be the best so that excellence will be attained in perfect time.

Let the Glory of God manifest in all of us as we tread a life worthy to be called His followers.
Happy Excellent 12th Years Thanksgiving Day!

JESUS YOU ROCK OUR WORLD

Published on INCENSE Vol. I, Issue 2, September 2007

By Elena Echevarria

FEATURING: KRISTIANONG KABATAAN PARA SA BAYAN

The KKB is designed by God’s perfect and wonderful love. Noemi Aguilar

“Excel Still More” is JIL Sun Valley’s theme in its 12th year Thanksgiving. It is what we want to respond to God’s faithfulness and greatness to this Church. Excellence is all about – going far beyond the call of duty, doing more than others expect. It comes from maintaining the highest standard… making special effort to do more for God(& His church). Individually, as a church we desire to continually serve God. “Not just for the sake of continuity” but to continue progressively, fruitfully and effectively that is to “excel still more” for His glory alone

Ptr. That is why people spend a lot of money on recreation, vacations, health awareness, self-help books, and assortment of nonessential gadgets. These things, they hope, will bring joy into their lives but they are not the answer. The 17th-century preacher Matthew Henry was right when he said, “A life spent in the service of God and in communion with Him is the happiest life that anyone can live in this world”.
If you are looking for happiness, improve your fellowship with God and serve Him. An old song by Horatius Bonar calls it “friendship with Jesus, fellowship divine,” You will call it “the happiest life.”

G-12 GRADUATION

Published on INCENSE Vol.I, Issue 2, September 2007

By Zerrah Del Prado

NAGTAPOS UPANG MAGSIMULA

Mainit man o umuulan, siksikan man o maluwang, may nakakakita man o wala.

ADYENDA

Adyenda
Kasama ka...
