Redboard hung out on AE's, Chasm prepares for stakes competition

Redboard King was not able to draw into the body of Sundays 8th race at Parx, instead being marooned on the also eligible list, hoping for a scratch. He has trained well off of his brief layoff and we are keeping our fingers crossed that he draws in as the end of the turf season at Parx is drawing closer.

Ausable Chasm has trained nicely since her return to Belmont Park and is being pointed to the Friendly Beauty a $60000 overnight stakes race for 2 year old New York bred fillies going 6 furlongs on September 23rd. The nomination's close today and we enter on Saturday for next Thursday's card.

Kickin remembered...

Though today’s announcement was not a complete surprise, I must say I am a bit saddened by the news. KnS has always held a special place with me as she was my first foray into the Dee Tee experience. I remember that soggy, Friday Fall afternoon at Monmouth when the word came Chuck had claimed a horse at Keeneland. I was on cloud nine that whole weekend and could not wait for her first start. Little did I know this quirky daughter of Chester House would take me, my family and friends to 5 of her 8 racing venues. From her 1st start at Tampa to her last start at Philly she gave us her all, which more times than not, was a solid and hard fought performance. 13 board hits out of 28 starts which included that sub zero degree start at Turfway and of course her first win at Arlington. That first win was a thrill of a lifetime and made extra special as I was able to share that whole experience with my dad.
Thanks to Steve, Chuck, TC, Cherie, Susan and the entire Simon Racing staff for taking great care of the “Kickin” one. I know she was a handful at times but I was always comfortable knowing that you had her best interests in mind which ultimately included today’s decision.
Finally special thanks to Kickin n Screamin. You raced hard everytime and gave us many, many thrills. Enjoy your well deserved retirement. You have earned it.- Dave Blaha, aka Heels1989

Kickin n Screamin was accepted today into the "Turning for Home" program. Donations are always accepted in any amount.

There are the conditions that she had to pass before being accepted:
Horses will be placed onto the program’s waiting list upon:
1.Submission of Foal Papers
2.Proof of negative Coggins test
3.Completely filled out Horse Intake Form and Sold Without Pedigree Form
4.Photo taken by program administrator
5.Veterinary evaluation , including all xrays or ultrasounds for those horses retiring due to injury.
6.No intact males can be placed until they have been gelded. The only exception is for horses on strict stall rest, and only then will castration be scheduled for a reduced rate by Turning For Home or its affiliated retirement organizations at the owner’s cost.
7.No horses will be accepted that have already been sent to a farm before the paperwork and photos have been taken.

Potential adopters must fill out an adoption application, along with references and photos of where the horse would live. We also REQUIRE a “No Auction/Right of First Refusal Contract” to be signed by all approved adopters before taking a horse home. These documents can be downloaded from TFH ADOPTION APPLICATION. After several days of mulling over the future of Kickin n Screamin we have decided that the time is right to retire her and move her onto the next phase of life. She has made 28 starts since we claimed her in October of 2007 with 3 wins, 7 seconds and 3 thirds. Kickin made starts at 8 different tracks; Tampa Bay Downs, Arlington Park, Turfway Park, Atlantic City, Kentucky Downs, Keeneland, Churchill Downs and Philadelphia Park.

However, recently she has started to lose her desire to compete, despite not having any real physical issues which is typically the reason why older horses start to fade. Kickin is far from the ideal 'off the track' prospect but her soundness and size are two things that she has going for her and continuing on with may eventually lead to issues that could compromise her future. Of course this decision would have been delayed had she been in better racing form but honestly she was never all that talented to begin with and at anything less than her best isn't competitive even at the bottom. Add that to the fact that she isn't close to paying for her upkeep and the picture becomes much more clear. We can retire her to Philadelphia Park's "Turning for Home" retirement program (http://www.patha.org/turning-for-home.html) where there is a waiting list of people waiting to adopt a sound horse.

Kickin n Screamin was never a great horse or even a good horse but she always tried hard and willingly gave what she had. She was Dee Tee's first winner and has given us more than two and a half years of campaigning. At seven years old there isn't any improvement in form coming and we owe it to her to make sure she finds a good home and a nice post-track life.

Ausable Chasm came out of race clearly tired and with as many experiences under the girth as possible. Pre-race the filly was perfect, and Alex Solis told us that she did great waiting in the gate and was sharp when the latch sprung. She did everything he asked including the slightly forced lead change around the eighth pole. She ate a lot of heavy mud, and was being hit hard with it around the turn but tried to run through it according to Solis. Alex then wrapped up on her past the sixteenth. She should benefit from the race in every way imaginable.
It was a great day at the Old Spa, with an enthusiastic crowd of more than 40 Dee Tee partners, their family and friends, as well as a slew of Derby Trailers. Many went to barn after the race as well. If all goes well, she'll run back in 21-28 days! Thanks again to everybody that made it possible and all who turned out...

Redboard King returned to the barn following his 5th place finish quite tired. He was forced to cut faster fractions on the lead than we would have liked to have seen but still held well until deep in the stretch when he finally weakened. Tony Black felt that he should improve off this effort and hated that his hand was forced by a couple of no-hope horses who showed speed before fading badly. There was a large contingent of Dee Tee partners at Philly this afternoon and many are staying for Kickin n Screamin's race on Saturday.

Ausable Chasm Debut's at the Spa

Dee Tee Stables Ausable Chasm makes her first start Sunday in the 2nd race at Saratoga Racecourse. The two year old Hook and Ladder filly has trained well in preparation for her debut in New York state bred maiden special weight company. A large contingent of partners is expected to be on hand for the race and hopefully they will be rewarded with a good effort. While the rail is not the ideal spot for a first timer, she should benefit from the experience of veteran rider Alex Solis.

Redboard King wins the 9th race at Philadelphia park on the 4th of July!!!

What a great way to make the holiday weekend especially memorable! Congratulations and thanks to all the partners, Chuck, Susan and Redboard for the effort. Most of all, for me personally (and I hope everyone else), special thanks and congratulations to Tony Black. It's special to break a maiden with a horse under any circumstances, but to get this photo with Tony in our silks means a great deal to me. I have spoken to Tony on the radio for 25 minutes 200 times in the past 4 years, and his generosity with me and the audience has been remarkable. I'll particularly cherish this win, and he's already expressed to me his pleasure at winning for us.-Steve Byk

AUSABLE CHASM was the first worker after the harrow break Thursday on the Belmont main, breezing 3f officially in :36.3 but working an actual half mile in :48.3. She finished up very well and galloped out strongly for nearly another quarter mile before pulling up. The work received a 1 of 5 bullet. Nice to be at Belmont this morning to watch Lloydobler and Ausable Chasm go through their work. Chasm was out on the training track for a 2 mile gallop, and continues to do beautifully. She'll work another half mile on Thursday after last week's :49.0 breeze in company, and is on schedule for a debut before the end of the Belmont meet.
Lloydobler has been moving much better after treatment to his left stifle last week, and galloped his 2 miles on the Belmont main track. With the warmer weather, it has become apparent that part of what has been bothering Lloyd may involve his being a colt, and consideration is being given to having him gelded. Dr. Hunt thinks it's the right move, and a decision will be made as soon as tomorrow. He looks terrific physically, and has really filled out even since the begining of the year. His next start may well be in a turf sprint, and should come later this month.
Both Lloydobler and Ausable Chasm will look to make a start or two at Saratoga, which based on the experience at the Spa with Sumwonlovesyou in 2007, should be special. More from Belmont as the week unfolds.

Next start for Kickin

The next race for Kickin n Screamin looks like June 8th at Philadelphia Park. The race is the same condition as her last race on Tuesday, $5000 nw since Dec 8, 2009. The distance is 1 1/16th and gives her three weeks between starts. She came out of the race is good order and should be ready to go again on the 8th.

Redboard King had a very good work yesterday, going 5 furlongs in 101.22. Entries are drawn on Monday for his race next Friday.

Still no date for Lloydoblers next start as Gary figures out where to go with him . Missus Mayflower will probably have her first work back later in the week.

Kickin n Screamin is in tomorrows (May 18th) 4th race at Philadelphia Park. The race came up pretty light save for the number #3 horse, Marcianne, who is the 2/1 morning line favorite. Kickin drew post position number one and Tony Black will be riding her. She is listed at 5/1 on the morning line. There is a strong possibility that the race will be contested over a muddy track as rain is forecast for the Philadelphia area tonight and tomorrow. I don't know if that is a positive or negative since she has limited experience over an of track but I know Kickin n Screamin will give her best as she has in every one of her 25 starts for Dee Tee Stables.

Redboard King came out of his race in great shape and May 28th at Philadelphia Park looks like his next race. That spot is the same maiden claiming $40000 that he just ran 2nd in, going six furlongs.

Lloydobler also came out of his race at Belmont no worse for wear and there are a number of spots that we are considering for him including a possible turf start.

Missus Mayflower has been galloping and isn't far from her first breeze since her shins started bothering her.

63 Beyer for Redboard King in his excellent 2nd start. What became apparent to Chuck via Tony Black the last couple of weeks following workouts, was that the kid who rode Redboard in his bow simply stopped riding the gelding early on and just went around with him. This was the kind of performance Chuck expected from Redboard first start, and he continues to improve as he builds strength in his hind quarters. He's going to be a nice horse by the summer, and thanks go out to Tony for suggesting this race. The 3-5 favorite would have had to fall down to lose, but Redboard's effort was very solid as he learns lessons. Grass and 1 mile or more is likely where he'll prove best, so this was a great next step in his career development

74 Beyer for Lloydobler in a run that was actually better than it looks at first glance, as he paired up to his previous best figure which came on the Wood undercard five weeks ago. Having missed a handful of days due to an achy stifle and lousy weather over the last three weeks, Lloydobler tired three-sixteenths from the wire after chasing the first half mile in :23.0 and :46.2. He will likely turn around in 3-4 weeks for a spot that might include a move to grass, and he should be at premium fitness. The problem our Smarty Jones colt faces is that he may being falling into that quirky middle ground between Maiden Special and $50,000-$65,000 Maiden Claiming company. The A.P. Indy-Got Koko son Cocalero who won rather easily, will receive at least a 91 Beyer for his debut. That shows the challenge we face now with the big barns back from Florida, as there may always be a Cocalero, or 2, in every MSW this time of year.

Lloydobler came out of his stellar second place finish last week in good shape and will be pointed for a start early in the Belmont meet. He displayed good early speed and a great deal of grit in his 4th start and third in the money finish.

Redboard King is in on Monday at Philadelphia Park in the 6th race which is a maiden special weight race going 6 1/2 furlongs. He drew post four in a field of eight and is going to be ridden by Kendrick Carmouche. We are hoping for a good trip and want to gain a little experience and added fitness moving forward.

Missus Mayflower arrived in Philadelphia on Friday and will go back under tack on Monday.

Kickin n Screamin is scheduled to work tomorrow and again next week prior to her next start on April 24th on the turf at Atlantic City.

I am heading out of Florida tomorrow and will be posting next from Kentucky or Chicago or Philadelphia or ...

Lloyd runs third

Lloydobler ran a good third for DeeTee Stable in last Thursdays third race at Aqueduct. After breaking sharp from post two, Lloyd moved to the lead under jockey Richard Migliore, remained there past the head of the stretch and stayed on nicely when passed in the stretch. It was a nice effort for the colt who wound up getting beat by four lengths after showing a new dimension with the early speed. A trip over the main track at Aqueduct mid-April is his next likely objective.

Kickin n Screamin goes after her 4th victory in the Dee Tee colors today in the 3rd race today at Philadelphia Park. She is the 2-1 morning line favorite coming off of a good second in the same 5000 class last time.

Redboard King continues to train forwardly in Ocala.

Missus Mayflower still has a sore shin which has prevented us from doing much with her.

Poor weather has forced NYRA to cancel today's card at Aqueduct meaning Lloyddobler wont be breaking his maiden today. This Winters weather has been particularly nasty and even with the warmer temperatures that March has brought us, there are lingering issues both up North and down South. I am not sure what the immediate options are with Lloyd but hopefully we can get back into a similar race soon.

Missus Mayflower has had some issues with her shins crop up this week which may cause us to miss the Tampa meet and point towards Philadelphia and the mid-Atlantic area this Spring. After a few more days of therapy we will make a decision on how aggressively we are going to treat the shins.

Redboard King has trained really well and seems to have turned the corner towards becoming a racehorse. He is going to work on Monday, going 5 furlongs on the dirt. We are looking at an early April start either at Tampa on the turf or Philadelphia on the dirt. Options for him later this Spring and moving into Summer include Indiana Downs, Churchill Downs, Arlington Park, Delaware or maybe even the much hyped Monmouth uber purse meet.

Kickin n Screamin is going to work tomorrow or Monday depending on the condition of the track and be entered for $5000 nw1 in 6 months race next Sunday at Philadelphia Park.

Missus Mayflower was not quite ready to make the March 4th race we originally had selected for her. Her new target is the same race (maiden 12500 going 5 furlongs) at Tampa on March 24th. She worked 5 furlongs over the deep surface at the Classic Mile in 103 yesterday and schooled in the gate as well.

Missus Mayflower continues to progress towards her debut on March 4th. She schooled in the gate today and galloped a spirited 1 1/4 afterwards. When she was turned out later in the morning she sped around her paddock for a few laps before settling down to munch on some grass. We are going to take her over to OBS on Saturday to work and get a chance to get her used to vanning to a new location for a race like she will when she runs. MM will be working out of the gate in company with Appoint, an older filly who has won a few races in Indiana.

Redboard King continues to advance slowly but surely for his debut. We were thinking of working him in the morning on the grass but the rain we are getting will probably prevent that from happening. If they open the turf for works on Saturday we may try again then or just work him on the dirt.

Kickin n Screamin was not entered for the race at Philly on the 27th as I wanted to give her a little more time after her strong effort last out. Look for something around the end of the first week in March for her.

Lloyddobler has reportedly come out of his race in good shape and will be pointed for a March 13th race at 6 furlongs at the Big A.

The New Year is here and it wont be long till our Dee Tee runners are racing. Kickin n Screamin came out of her race in good shape and we are pointing towards a conditioned $7500 race going 1 1/16th on Friday January 8th.

Lloyd Dobler is being entered for Thursday at Aqueduct in maiden $35000 race going 6 furlongs. David Cohen is scheduled to ride for Gary Sciacca.

Redboard King is training down at the Classic Mile Training Center in Ocala and is still looking at a start at Tampa Bay Downs later this Spring. Missus Mayflower is training forwardly in Ocala, having recently worked a couple nice, half-miles.

What lies ahead

Kickin and Screamin is doing great while turned out at trainer Mike Lauer's farm. She will come back into the track next week and we will look for a spot for her at either Churchill or Philadelphia Park. There is a race for $7500 claimers going 1 mile on the 14th at CD and a ton of options for her at Philly. While I am not 100% sure she will be as good on the dirt as the other surfaces, if the race sets up for her with a quick pace to run into I believe she will do fine.

Aldebutante has trained aggressively with the addition of blinkers. I have not picked out her next race either as I want to train her a little more with the blinks and make sure she is ready to go. Philly and Churchill are the two possible tracks for her next start also.

Redboard King has done well recently and will work this weekend weather permitting. I doubt we will make the fall meet at CD and are probably looking at a December race in Philadelphia or Tampa Bay Downs.

Harold is training very well according to Paul Barone, Gary Sciacca's assistant. They are thinking a late November or early December start for him as well.

Missus Mayflower is back on the track, jogging everyday with Hank. She got a little heavy during the downtime following her surgery and we are working that weight off of her slowly. She will Winter in Florida and hopefully start at Tampa in the Spring.

Plans for Sumwonlovesyou have changed a bit and there will be an announcement about her soon. She is doing great at Richland Hills Farm and was recently visited by Unstable who thought she was finally showing that she was in foal.

Redboard worked a quicker than expected 3 furlongs yesterday morning in 35.60 in company with a horse named Touch Me Quick. Under jockey Aldo Canchano, Redboard went very well while outside the other horse and galloped out well after the wire. He cooled out fine though was a little winded. We will look to work him back next Thursday or Friday, going another 3f or an easy 1/2 mile.

September 20th at Hoosier going 6 furlongs on the dirt. I am not satisfied with her blood test results and believe that the extra time will help get her back to normal.

Kickin N Screamin is scheduled to run at AP on September 24th going 1 mile for $5000. However she may also be entered in a similar spot at Turfway on Septermber 23rd. We want to make sure she gets a chance to run and while the AP race is a bit more attractive pursewise there is no guarantee that it will go off as scheduled.

Aldebutante is being pointed to a race on September 10th at Hoosier Park going 5 1/2 furlongs in a Maiden Special Weight on the dirt.

Missus Mayflower is still recovering from her surgery and has started to be handwalked daily.

Redboard King is going to work this weekend at CDT going an easy three furlongs.

Missus Mayflower came out of surgery this morning in good shape. Dr. Johnson reported no complications with the procedure and thought the prognosis was excellent. She should return to training late this fall and we are looking at getting her to the races next Spring.
