Now, I have been using iRealSMS for quite some time now. It’s decent and all, but it just has too many bugs, and the devs haven’t released an update in a good while. So, I decided to look elsewhere for my messaging needs, and I came up to BiteSMS. BiteSMS includes four things, their own network for you to send messages out of, a replacement SMS app, quickreply, and quickcompose. Overall, I have been very satisfied with the app in general.

The Bite Network is a network of it’s own where you can send messages from, rather than your carrier. The prices are much cheaper. At 12 cents per message, I agree (in the U.S.). You can buy credits right from inside the app. (Each credit allows you to send one message) To enable sending from the Bite network you can either go into the setttings and do so, or you can hold down the send button until it turns pink.

Next, the replacement app offers the ability to view the contacts pictures for each conversation. Then, when you go into a conversation, and you highlight a message like you were going to copy it, you can see the timestamp for that message, which I love. The last difference is that there’s a button on top that goes to the app’s settings.

Quickreply and quickcompose are the two most needed built in features for the iPhone. In my opinion, Bite does the best job to implement it. When you get a text, quickreply pops up, and you can mark any message you get as read or unread by checking or unchecking a blue bubble on the left of the popup. Also, there’s a button to open the message in the actually app, or to call the person texting you! It is bug free, so naturally it’s better than iReal’s version.

And finally quickcompose, all you have to do is touch volume up then touch the screen. Both quickreply and quickcompose work on the lockscreen. For quickreply touch the little pink box when you get a message to activate quickreply, and for quickcompose just put the volume up. You can hide the popup by pressing the x in the top right corner, or you can press the home button.

BiteSMS has devs who are quick to respond, and are quick to develop. They offer two types of licenses, one 12 month one you get when you buy credits, and one lifetime one, which is 9 dollars. For anyone who texts at least 200 messages a month I suggest this, it will be a lot better than having to go into the messages app to reply, and it will be a lot better than any other messaging replacement app out there. There’s a beta repo that you can find on their website, bitesms.com. It has the most up to date version, which is the one I reviewed.

You would think that apple would include some sort of finder, but noooo, they don’t because they want you to prevent customization. Here is where jailbreaking comes into play, but that’s for another post another day. Now, I must begin in saying that this app is for jailbroken phones ONLY. Apple doesn’t allow of such misconduct =P. Anyway, iFile allows you to view, copy, paste, delete, rename etc. files on your device. But, something awesome about it that isn’t in finder for mac, is the fact that it has a built in text editor so you can edit things right from the app! This allows you to edit plist files, header files, html files, etc. right on your device! So, this means if you were to have a theme that you’re creating you can edit widgets right on your phone! Also you could edit string files and such.

Next, the app has a built in zip viewer and extractor. Not only can it extract zip files but 7z, rar, tar, tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar.Z, tgz, tbz2, gz, bz2, and deb too! Speaking of deb files, it can install them directly within the app. This is especially useful for testing betas and such. This way you won’t have to deal with terminal and such.

Another great feature is how you can search through all your files on your device. Just scroll up some and there’s the search bar. This is especially useful when an apt is installed and then you don’t know where it’s library folder is. You can search three different ways, simple, wildcard and regular expression, each giving a more specific way to search.

The app has a nice Finder feature of quickview. You can see pictures as thumbnails, and hear the music, without opening another app. It has the ability to open a file or folder outside of the from another app with an iFile:// prefix. This means that another app could download a file from the web then open that file with iFile. This app is called Safari Download Manager, which I’m trying to get a review build for, but the dev hasn’t responded to my email yet. This would be awesome, you download a theme and then edit it to your likings and then set the theme.

The app has built in viewers for /most/ files. It can pdf, html (web viewer), images(not psd), Microsoft office files, .pages files, and can play all audio files that the device can. Theres many other little features, but there’s too many to say! These are the main resons that the app is appealing to everybody, so it should be to you!

It’s only four dollars on the cydia store. Just go into cydia and type “iFile,” pay the $4 fee and then install it. Easy as pie!
It’s well worth the money and it just goes towards further development of the app. The developer is a great guy, and if you have any concerns just look over to his iFile site where you can find contact info and such: Link.

iRealSMS is a jailbroken only app that can replace the built in SMS app! It adds many new features, as well as enhances a few.

To start off, you can view each SMS individually rather than in conversations. You can create drafts and templates as well. But, you can also view in conversations, which I like better. Under the conversations tab you can view it like it is in the built in SMS app or have a different theme which gives you a few more options. These options include quick reply within the window, a new window to reply, forward, and blacklist. Speaking of blacklist, you can blacklist certain numbers or contacts, or messages! It’s a very nice feature. You can have it autodelete the blacklisted messages. You can search through your SMS by the name of a person or the content in a message. And there are two unique things called quickreply and quick send. But we’ll get to that later. You can make the iRealSMS app your default SMS app, and you can also run it in the background so that it opens quicker. You can have it show an icon in the statusbar when you have a new SMS and you can password protect the app.

Quickreply and quicksend:

These features are where you get an SMS and the you don’t have to quit an app to reply, or if you want to send an SMS you don’t have to quit the app to send. Rather than the normal popup when you get an SMS you get a different one whereas the keyboard pops up and you can reply or call the person that sent you the text. Quicksend works when you either press volume up, you press volume up and then you touch the icon that appears, or you double tap the home button. I personally use volume up with touch.

I highly suggest this app if you text a lot. If you don’t text a lot, don’t worry about it. But if you do, it makes replying and sending much better. I don’t use the built in app really, just the quickreply and quicksend.

Ever since 3.0 the iPhone can now be a fully functional GPS app, right? Well yes theres many out there, and Tom Tom is coming, but one of the cheapest ones is G-Map! The company has now made individual apps for different states as well, rather than just one app for the east U.S. and one for the west. First off, in the new version, you can zoom in and out, which is much appreciated by me! =]

G-Map: Positives!
G-Map includes hundreds of POI’s as well as the ability to input an address to go to. It calculates the route pretty quickly, and creates the best route possible. It includes route preview, both visual where as you can watch where you go, and written, where as you can read where you go. You can put in a waypoint, or detour into the routes incase theres construction, or you wwant to stop off to McDonalds on your way to work =D. There are never any skips or freezes in your current location. The app overall never crashes and is very stable. If you exit the app, your route is saved, so when you enter back into the app, all you have to do is go to view the map, and it’ll prompt you whether or not you want to pick that route up again.

Turn by turn Navigation!
In the newest version there is now voice prompts to tell you when to turn, or merge, or how far you have to go. I have to say the voice guidance is awesome! One thing I wish you could do is customize when it tells you what. Like how far away from a turn, etc. Also, customizing the voice would be cool too!

Negatives
This app is great, and well worth the money, but there are a few things that aren’t deal breakers that I’d like to see.
I’d like more customization! I’d like to be able to change the current location icon, and the different icons for POI. Oh yeah and customizing the voice guidance.
More POI! In my town the POI aren’t very updated.

Overall, I have to say if you need a GPS system this could definately work! Only 20 bucks for the per state apps, and 35 for half the country! It’s well worth the money people so get buying at this link!

Restoring a route

Calculating…..

3D view of Map

Way your facing view of map

Zoomed out view of map/Route, yes this is the quicker way, because the stop light through the other streets takes forever.

North facing view

Hey everyone! It’s been a while! Well my summers been fantastic!

Now onto the reviews.
IronSite:
This is a 3D iShoot game. Yeah it sounds cool and all, but I didn’t find it nearly as entertaining. It seems much harder. You get 3 “tanks” and the other team gets three “tanks.” You go onto different levels with different 3D landscapes whereas you play. The game just seems much drier than iShoot, just in my opinion.

Quickoffice:
Quickoffice was the first Microsoft word editing solution. I have to say I did end up writing 2.5 pages on here with it. Sometimes the keyboard lags, but that got better in the last update. Sometimes it inseerts two spaces rather than one, which is pretty annoying. I haven’t really tried out the excel support, but with what Ive done with it it was pretty nice (:.

DocsToGo:
Docstogo was the next word editing solution for the iPhone. It has many more features and has less lag and doesn’t have the space issue. Although I haven’t gotten as much use out of it, I still feel it is better.

Look for more reviews to come!

I’m a student, and I’m always needing a way to organize my upcoming projects/tasks. In the past I have used a Free app called iProcrastinate Mobile. But when I saw iStudent Pro, I just had to try it out and review it.

When you first open iStudent Pro, you see 4 views. Today, Calendar, Assignments, and Courses.

The Today view shows what classes you have for the day.

The calendar view shows you your exams and schedule for hte coming months. Tilting the device sideways presents a beautiful landscape calendar. Assignments shows your upcoming assignments and completed assignments.

The assignments view obviously is where you see your upcoming assignments. There are two sections of the Assignments section. Completed and Current. Under each, you can sort your assignments by Priority, Course, and Due Date. You can also easily add and edit your assignments.

The last view is the courses view. Courses are easy to add and edit. You can changed the days of the classes, times, instructor, and more. There is just SO MUCH info that you can add about your courses.

The bottom line is that this app is excellent. There are a few things that could be changed. The two things that bother me are the app icon badge alerts and choosing due dates for assignments. For the badge alerts, I would like to see more customization for that. For example, a setting to have the badge show number of assignments due within the week, or the next day. Just more customization. And for the choosing of due dates, instead of just having dates, show the day of the week as well as having a “Tomorrow” button.

I definitely recommend this app. Its available in the app store for $2.99. [link]

I plan to write a much better review when I’m actually taking classes. Its summer now though.

Bento is an organizer. It’s as simple as that. It organizes everything in your life from what you have, to what you do, to even what you have to do! Bento uses databases to create custom templates to store information. There is a way to create your templates, and even edit the pre-made ones, but the pre-made ones are pretty well made! You can add and take away different forms within a template, either from the desktop or from the iPhone. The app(s) can help a bunch for dieters or athletes, for there is a template custom for both of you. I am really surprised at how well organized the app(s) are. At first I seemed a bit overwhelmed (I like to try and figure out how to use something without reading, or any help =P). In the desktop version, down in the left corner is where you can add a database. Within each database there are groups called collections. Within the collections lies the organization. You can make one database of to do’s, and then you can add different collections, such as what I have, tests, reviews, chores, homework, projects, etc.. You can also integrate you’re address book and calendar into the app! In the iPhone version, you add a database by going to the “New Library” tab. Then, once within the library you created, you can create a new item. Once you save it, go back into the item and you can either add a new collection or put that item in a collection. In the iPhone app you can either view in beautiful cover flow or in a list view. I prefer the list personally =]. Within cover flow if you tap the info button or double tap a database, you can see the collections within that database, pretty cool right =D.

Finally, syncing. Syncing is what makes these apps better than any other apps out there. Yes there’s todo syncing, and other apps that sync. But I haven’t sen yet any apps that are this powerful and sync. It’s kind of hard to always bring your laptop everywhere (or your mac if you’re like me =]), so the iPhone version makes Bento the most powerful organizer out there! And yes you can quote me on that =].

Overall, if you’re just not organized, I highly suggest this. I thoiught I was organized, but once I got this, it was just so helpful. I realized that jotting down hen you exercised, what you ate, what you NEED to do, what you WANT to do, can all very much help with priorities, and setting them straight. So go get it =] for only 5 dollars on the iPhone, and only 50 for the mac!.
