Interested in winning an amazing Prise?  We are hosting a photography contest for a chance to win a Praktica MTL 3 35mm SLR Film Camera Body with a Carl zeiss Jena Tessar f=2.8 50 DDR, camera bag and a roll of film curtsey of PhotoSoc Chair Saffron.

The theme of the contest is “Who I am”, We want to see true insights to what makes you, well you! You can submit up to 3 photographs and you can submit them to to sass502@york.ac.uk

The deadline for the Contest is the 27th Of April 23:00. Entries after this date will not be considered so get them in Early!

Just a few things to consider for the logo:

The logo must contain the words “PhotoSoc” and “York”
Please do not include any copyrighted images (unless you have explicit permission from the copyright holder)
Only one colour to be used in the design for easy reproduction on merchandise
The deadline is 5pm Sunday 25 March.

The favicon is the small icon seen to the left of the URL in your browser (wordpress has a ‘w’). This image must be very simple, to fit 16×16 pixels.

Once entries have been submitted you will have the chance to vote for your preferred choice on the facebook group and this will be considered in the final selection.

What is more, the winning designer will also receive a special prize!

If you are already a member of of Darkroom, please try to put everything back in its current place once you’re done. I’ll be labelling the cupboards at the beginning of next term, and each piece of equipment so that everyone is clear what it’s all for!

We would also like to thank the  http://www.thefireworkers.co.uk who single handedly drove out to the University on a Friday morning, simply to deliver the PhotoSoc team sparklers. Without you, this could not have happened.

Each member had the following list of items:

A duck, The Buddha, Pint Glass, A book, The Words ‘The University of York’, Stairs, Musical Instrument, Newspaper, Sports Kit, Post Box, Bank, The Number 44 Bus, Costa Cup, Bean Bag, The Lake and the New sports Centre

and the first team back with all the correct answers was allowed to pick whatever they wanted from a list of prizes (which continued up to 4^th place). The final  results are as follows:

With a big Thanks to the Chair Saffron Shirreffss for organising the event, as well as the very beautiful committee treasurer Indrė Kontrimaitė for her volunteer work on the day.  Also, a big thanks to events coordinator Davy Mains for his hard work volunteering too! (He may or may not have been forced to wear rabbit ears, despite his protests!) Indrė stated that her grandmother’s delicious beautiful strawberries inspired her to take the photograph!

In addition to this, Committee Chair Saffron Shirreffss came 3rd in the same competition with her submission of a duck. She stated that she had been feeding the ducks by her college when one ran off with a whole slice – so she decided to photograph him running away!

Two of  his pictures were printed and then distributed to hundreds of students allowing his work to reach a large audience.   You can view his submissions below!
