• A good dentist will ask that you get a complete dental examination before he begins any cosmetic treatments. Expect to make room in your schedule for this appointment. If the dentist doesn’t require an examination beforehand, that may indicate that you should take your business elsewhere.
• Your dentist should also feel comfortable explaining your oral health to you. This includes proper hygiene procedures, the condition of your gums and the longevity of the cosmetic procedures he  recommends for you.

Armed with these helpful tips, finding a great dentist should be no problem. Perfecting your dance moves, however, may be a different story.

The Nobel Prize in Medicine 2009 was given to the work scientists conducted to discover how telomere and telomerase control our health span and life span.

Everybody’s cells have DNA, and every DNA has a region called telomere. When this region is long, the cell is healthy and young. When it is short, the cell gradually dies or gives birth (replicated) to aged-looking daughter cells. So in order to have good health or longevity, we must make our telomeres long. If you keep them long, your cells will be youthful and live for a long time.

Telomerase is an enzyme in our cells which keeps the telomere portion of our DNA healthy and long, to the point of being capable of giving human cells immortality in laboratory conditions. How can you keep your telomeres long? By activating your telomerase to work. How do you activate your telomerase to work? By bringing all your bioidentical hormones up to 20-year-old levels, because all our cells are beautiful, young and healthy at that age.

Age Reversal

Since writing my book Age Reversal, first published in January 1998, I have been proposing the mechanism in which hormones in our bodies play a role in activating the telomerase, which in turn prolongs the telomere portion of our DNA. This process keeps the cells young and healthy, thus accomplishing our goal of extending health span and longevity.

The scientific world has reached recommended daily allowances and requirements for many trace minerals and vitamins. The most striking examples of clinical deficiency in trace minerals are seen in patients who have been placed on long-term total parenteral nutrition (TPN). Often when no mineral supplements were provided, patients developed multiple deficiency syndromes.

Most manifestations of trace mineral deficiency, especially the endocrine and metabolic derangements, can be attributed to decreases in concentration or activity of enzymes. Many enzymes contain trace amounts of minerals required for their full activity.

Removal of trace minerals from an enzyme often reduces its activity to zero and sometimes replenishment of the mineral restores the enzymatic activity. In the case of vitamin supplements, it is noted that vitamin B12 improves the quality of semen in fertile men in that it increased total sperm count, increased motility and decreased immune forms of the sperm.

Therefore, it is recommended that adults on hormone replacement therapy be supplemented simultaneously with multiple trace minerals and multiple vitamins. A few other ecxamples:

• Zinc deficiency has been noted to decrease somatomedin-C (insulin growth factor) activity; therefore, somatomedin-C activity appears to be zinc dependent. Zinc deficiency also has been noted in night blindness which may be due to depletion of retinene reductase, a zinc metalloenzyme. Patients with zinc deficiency have also suffered from impaired taste and smell senses.
• Copper deficiency has been noted to cause reproductive failure. It may also cause osteoporosis, which is caused in decrease in lisyl oxidase activity, a copper-dependent enzyme necessary for cross-linking of coflagen. Hyperpigmentation of the skin is also noted in copper deficiency which results from the decrease in tyrosinase, a copper-dependent enzyme necessary for melanin synthesis.
• Selenium deficiency will cause reduction in cell membrane protection because selenium is the co-factor in glutathione peroxidase that protects cell membranes against oxidative destruction. Manganese deficiency causes carbohydrate intolerance and disturbs diabetic glucose tolerance tests.
• Chromium deficiency also has been observed to cause abnormal glucose tolerance tests, and chromium deficiency also has been noted to cause hypercholesterolemia.
• Nickel deficiency has been noted to cause iron metabolism impairment which leads to anemia. Vanadium trace mineral deficiency also has been noted to cause hypercholesterolemia.
• Ascorbic acid deficiency has been noted to cause scurvy, which is commonly known, but pathological semen also has been observed in patients with insufficient ascorbic acid. Low vitamin C serum levels have been reported to be an independent risk factor in cervical dysplasia, leading to cervical cancer.
• Deficiency in vitamin E has been noted to cause abnormal glucose tolerance tests, and a pharmacological dose of vitamin E may enhance the insulin action in type II diabetes.

Therefore, it is recommended that adults on hormone replacement therapy be supplemented simultaneously with multiple trace minerals and multiple vitamins.

We age because the telomere on our DNA, that portion of human DNA that controls lifespan in cells, gets shorter and shorter shorter and shorter. Why? Because the telomerase, or enzyme that keeps the telomere healthy, does not repair it. Why not? Because as we get older our bioidentical hormones drop, and that causes aging.

In order not to age, we have to reverse the process. Some signs of aging that we can see are wrinkling. The human cells on our body are dying. Our heart cells are dying so our blood vessels die and we get high blood pressure; our brain cells die which is why we get Alzheimer’s disease; our lymphocytes die which is why we get cancer.

So the signs of aging are diseases that are the result of various cells in our body which are dying. The more diseases you have, the more signs you have that you are aging. Of course small children get diseases, too, but they are either genetic or infectious, not related to aging.

Hormone Levels Drop

In the past, scientists believed that our hormone levels dropped because we aged. Today we know that the converse is true: We age because our hormone levels drop.

We know that maintaining hormone levels can prevent age-related diseases and turn back our biological age, thereby increasing our health span and life expectancy. Most of all, it improves our quality of life by bringing our hormone levels up to those of a young adult.

The cells of our bodies reproduce every several months or years, depending on what type of cells they are. But the young cells do not keep us young. A wrinkled mother skin cell will produce a wrinkled daughter skin cell.

How do these cells know our biological age? The information about our biological age is communicated to the DNA by hormones. As hormone levels in the body decrease, less hormone is attached to the cell wall, and a weaker electrical signal is given to the DNA of the reproducing mother cell.

This is the signal that tells the DNA that our body has aged. Therefore, the daughter cells will be reproduced in the old or diseased state of the mother cells.

By increasing the hormone level, the DNA of the mother cell can be signaled to work again. Once the DNA receives the signal that the body is that of a 20-year-old, it will reproduce young, healthy daughter cells, and these cells will reverse our biological age.

Wait, a white smile?

If you thought that your dress was the only thing that should be white on your big day, take a second look in the mirror. Are your teeth discolored from years of drinking coffee, smoking or missed dental appointments? If so, then D. Gordon Rye, D.D.S., of Rye Smiles for Life, suggests finding a dentist to get the problem addressed before you walk down the aisle. You wouldn’t want to look through your wedding pictures later only to dwell on the contrast between your white dress and your yellow teeth.

When deciding to get your smile enhanced before the big day, Dr. Rye offers a few suggestions to make sure that the process only enhances your wedding, and doesn’t become another burden during the planning process.

Solutions For Better Wedding-Day Teeth

First, he says find a dentist that you trust. Your cosmetic dentist should really listen to every question that you have and address each one thoroughly. Use this time to talk about what aspects of your smile you would like fixed. The dentist you choose should be able to discuss with your oral health, as well as how long the treatments will last. And, don’t forget to mention when your wedding date is so that you can make sure you are completely healed in time.

If you have only slight discoloration on your teeth, than you will probably benefit from the different types of whitening methods that most dentists offer. In Dr. Rye’s office, patients are offered the treatments in his office or they can take home a whitening kit. During the in-office treatment a power bleaching method is used. A rubber protector guards the gums, while a whitening solution is applied to the teeth and activated with a laser. The laser light stimulates the release of cleansing oxygen molecules from the solution, which then penetrates the enamel to bleach away discolorations.

Within three to six whitening treatments, you can expect to notice a lasting difference in the shade of your teeth. Dr. Rye recommends that you get your last whitening treatment a few days before your wedding, as some patients have experienced teeth sensitivity or white spots on their gums. Both side effects normally disappear within three days.

If you don’t feel that you have the time to get the treatments done in the office, then you can also buy an at-home kit as well. This treatment is still much more powerful than anything you can buy at your local drug store, and will leave you with a smile that is shades lighter than before. In a single visit to the dentist, you can be custom fit for a tray that will fit over your teeth like a mouthguard. You will fill the tray with a bleaching solution and wear it everyday until you achieve the desired results. Your dentist can go over with you how long the tray should be worn for each day, and how long it will take before you see the final results.

If you have tougher stains on your teeth, or they are broken or chipped, then your cosmetic dentist can also fit you for porcelain veneers. After preparing your existing teeth for the application, the veneers, which are custom-made to fit perfectly over your original teeth, can be put on. And, because the porcelain is translucent, the veneers are extremely natural looking and blend in with your surrounding teeth.

Now, instead of worrying about how your smile will look in the photos, you can focus on more important things, like which one your guests will have to suffer and sit next to Uncle Harry during the reception.

Immediately blot as much of a liquid stain as possible. Blot thoroughly, using a clean white terry cloth towel or other absorbent blotting material. Continue shifting to clean, dry areas of the towel while applying downward pressure. Though most of the carpets produced today are treated with stain-resistant treatments when manufactured, no carpet can be said to be completely stain-proof. And the longer a stain remains in the carpet, the more permanently it sets into it.

Scrape away a solid or semi-solid stain using a blunt spatula, bone scraper, or spoon. Never use a knife to scrape off a stain because it might harm the fibers. Vacuum away as much of the solid stain as possible. Never scrub or brush a stain as scrubbing can harm the fibers and make the stain set into the carpet or rug. Vacuum the carpet surface using a canister vacuum with a hose (do not use an upright type of vacuum with a rotating brush as this will only spread the stain). Using the hose, gently work from the outer perimeter of the stain toward the center. This should reduce the stain and eliminating the likelihood of spreading it. Never use water to clean toner or soot from a carpet because it only spreads and sets the stain.

Pretest the stain removal agent on an inconspicuous area of the carpet. Follow the instructions on the stain remover carefully. Apply a few drops to each color in the carpet. Press a clean, white towel or napkin lightly over it for approximately 30 seconds. Check both the towel or napkin and the carpet for color transfer, color change, or any other damage. Try another stain removal agent if you notice any changes.

To remove the stain, apply a small amount of stain remover to the soft, white, absorbent cloth and gently apply to the stain, working from the edges in toward the center of the spot to prevent it from spreading. Continue for as long as the stain is getting transferred onto the towel. Apply more solution to a fresh area on the towel and repeat the process as long as it takes to remove the stain.

In cases where you need to apply more than one stain remover, continue applying the first stain removal agent as long as there is any improvement; then move on to the next one.

After the spill has been completely removed, rinse out the affected area with water and blot dry to remove the cleaning solution completely, as any residue may attract soil and cause damage to the carpet. To effectively blot the water, you can use clean, dry towels weighed down by flat, heavy objects like books. Keep changing the towels as they become saturated.

Do not over-wet the area. Over-wetting of a carpet while cleaning may cause damage to the carpet.
