First of all, let me introduce the group which I discovered a few months ago.

The name says it all. The group is very active on Facebook, allowing Mauritians (both amateurs or professionals) to share their shots among the Mauritian community. New pictures are posted nearly everyday, allowing members to discuss about the shots and thus, everyone keeps sharing their passion of photography. You can join in anytime, do not hesitate, most of us are only amateurs, still learning techniques from others’ comments, suggestions and criticism.

Today’s event

The group members organized quite a few events in the past (Catamaran, 24/7 night out, Shooting in Port Louis among others)  and today, we met Chez Pepe, Flic en Flac for lunch. 25 members turned up at the restaurant at around 1230… There was loads of things we talked about, for example photography, photography and photography. We tried to discuss about other things like photography and photography. Do I need to say that people around us most probably talked about photography too, lol!

After paying the bill (about Rs9510), we went to the other side of the road to continue our photo shooting sessions…

I felt a bit “shy” with my 18-55mm lens when I was among those holding huge lens. One of the most amazing lens is the first one in the picture below : a 70-300mm lens which all of us had the opportunity to hold and shoot a few pics. Wow, it weighted so much but the weight does not really matter once you start playing with it

This part of the beach was crowded with girls and boys holding their big DSLRs and shooting everything which moved around…  Even the static objects were not spared!

Sorry to people out there in case you felt that we were a group of paparazzi!

The next rendez vous is in 2 weeks time, this time we gonna down the Black River Gorges!

Trimming the grass, somewhere around Terre Rouge

Did you ever notice those men busy working along the motorway? Yes, the same ones who are paid to trim the grass or even pick up bottles or empty snack packets which some of you throw while driving.

Well, I have been coming across them since a few months now, nearly on a daily basis. Equipped with their string trimmers (aka “l’appareil taille gazon“), they usually work in groups and move along together when they have finished trimming the grass in that area. They also wear appropriate clothing to protect themselves from the stones or other objects flying around while they are working. But there is a big lack of equipment which informs road users about works in progress.

However, I have been wondering what would happen if one of those objects fly towards a vehicle. At such a high speed, a window or even the car’s windscreen can easily blow into pieces, putting everyone in danger : the driver and the passengers. The driver can easily lose control of his vehicle, which can hit the guy and any other vehicles passing by.

Fortunately, there haven’t been such incidents (and accidents) till now and let’s hope that they are provided with the proper equipment to inform drivers to slow down in those areas.

And can you imagine the danger they are exposed to? Unfortunately, they do not really have a choice.

Let’s go for the 499th post on this blog!

For the very first purchase, most of us usually choose The Complete Ultimate Computer Package which comprises of the monitor, cpu, mouse and all those stuffs given away as “free gifts” and, and and… The Printer…. either the simple one or the “10 in one” printer which can be used for everything; from calling your friends to making photocopies.

Yes, the printer works wonderfully well for some time until the ink gets over or worst; “Ou lencre ine sek missier, akoz ou pas fine servi printer la souvent!” And its only then that you find out that replacing the cartridges is really costly… You either end up buying another printer with 2 new cartridges or remain printer-less for the rest of your life, happily! No more headache about paper jams, neither any worries about how to keep the device alive.

I believe that more than 1/2 of us do not bother buying another printer. Because with time, you realise that you can live without it.  Printing a document costs only about Rs2 per page but there’s always a cheaper alternative : Your neighbour or next door cousin!

My first (and last) printer lasted for less than 2 years and I was lucky that I did not encounter any major problems with it. I still don’t remember if it broke down or I threw it away when I no more needed it. And I can say that I am not interested to buy another one…

Today, I wanna how many among you (still) have (or not?) a printer… as simple as that!

To be more precise, grandbaie.mu mentioned the following account num 017114353 for MCB while the correct one is 017114535. I was quite confused and called the hotline service to be sure!

The person at the other end confirmed to me that the good account numbers were the following :

MCB : 017114535

SBM : 61030100045336

I sincerely hope that nobody read that page and donated to the wrong number, and if ever, the owner of the account transfers the money collected to the real account number.

UPDATE (5mins after publishing article) :

I just called MCB and the customer care checked the account number and fortunately it is not that of an existing bank account number!!! Also, I had written MBC instead of MCB in haste to get this post published asap. Sorry for that error, typo again but at least, it did not lead to confusion.

As for me, I will be mailing the person responsible to notify them of the enormous error they introduced and how that mistake could cost loads of money! I will also try to contact MCB to notify them of this error.

I don’t know about you but I find this error definitely UNACCEPTABLE!

Let me remind you, you can also contribute by sending an SMS to 8986 with the words “Haiti”. Each SMS = Rs10 donation. At around 8pm, the sum raised reached over 2.5 million rupees!

With these words, I just confirmed the bank fund transfer (+ the sms) for my personal contribution to the fund.

On the eve of the due date, I had completed only those exercises on pages 7-12… Back in class, I (tried to) make the most innocent face, hoping “and nearly praying” that the teacher does not spot me for sending me to the board. So, I kept going through the pages of my copybooks from time to time, making as if I am pretty much busy checking answers *nerd*

However, this trick did not always work!

Fortunately, life in uni was much nicer, everything became digital and a few seconds were more than enough to copy the assignments. Kidding of course!

Who did not copy his friends’ copybook or assignments? Raise your hands please!

Cette affaire remonte à quelques semaines de cela. Un magistrat avait infligé une amende de Rs100 à un inspecteur de police pour ne pas être présent en cour le jour d’un procès dans lequel il était assigné comme témoin. Mais ce dernier a eu recours à la justice car il n’a jamais été convoqué. Finalement le verdict est tombé en faveur du policier.

Quelques minutes de cela, je viens d’apprendre qu’un autre policier s’est saisi de la justice pour la même raison mais pour une somme différente, c’est à dire Rs300!

Je trouve que ces deux exemples cités lancent un signal fort à la population…

Nul ne peut échapper à la justice, surtout pour des abus de pouvoir qu’exercent certaines personnes afin de montrer leur supériorité.

Chapeau à ces gens qui osent crier à l’injustice!

In my opinion, I find that he did a great job when he served as the President… Above all, I think that most people appreciate his personality and neutrality. I also believe that he is still one of the most  respected persons by all. But I think that associating him with any  political party will change the trust people had in him…
