Sandro había recibido el trasplante tras permanecer varios meses internado por el avanzado deterioro de sus órganos a raíz de la enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica (EPOC) que padecía desde hacía años.<br /><br />De origen muy humilde, Sandro había nacido en el barrio obrero bonaerense Valentín Alsina. Allí fue donde surgió su pasión por Elvis Presley, a quien imitó durante los inicios de su carrera: de hecho debutó en un acto de la escuela primaria, realizado el 9 de julio de 1957, sacudiendo las caderas y la pelvis.<br /><br />Luego inició sus estudios secundarios pero los abandonó para ayudar a sus padres y probó distintos trabajos en carnicerías, droguerías, como tornero y sodero (repartidor de agua con gas), entre otras labores, mientras dedicaba su tiempo libre a la música. Siempre sostuvo que gracias a la música había logrado apartarse de la mala vida en las calles.<br /><br />Con el guitarrista Enrique Irigoytía formaron Los Caribes y compartieron el grupo El Trío Azul (Sánchez, Irigoytía y Agustín Mónaco). Como sus padres quisieron ponerle de pequeño el nombre Sandro, pero en el Registro Civil no lo autorizaron, él adoptó ese seudónimo para su carrera artística. Su primer show como Sandro fue en el local Recreo Andrés.<br /><br />En 1960 inicia su carrera solista, con covers de clásicos del rock en español y, en 13 de septiembre de 1963 graba su primer disco que incluía "¿A esto le llamas amor?", de Paul Anka, y en el reverso "Eres el demonio disfrazado", de Elvis.<br /><br />El grupo Sandro y los de Fuego comenzó a tocar a mediados de 1964 en programas de televisión y, aunque su debut fue en "Aquí la Juventud", logró popularidad en el programa "Sábados Circulares" de Pipo Mancera, que años después trabajaría en la televisión hispana en Miami, Estados Unidos.<br /><br />Considerado uno de los fundadores del rock en español, Sandro también incursionó en los géneros de la balada romántica y el pop latino. En su carrera de más de 40 años, publicó 52 discos y vendió más de 10 millones de copias.<br /><br /><b>Orígenes gitanos</b><br /><br />Entre sus éxitos más sonados, destacan 'Rosa, Rosa' (sólo en Argentina vendió 2 millones), 'Porque yo te amo', 'Dame fuego', 'Quiero llenarme de ti', 'Penumbras', 'Así', 'Ese es mi amigo el puma', 'Tengo', 'Trigal', 'Una muchacha y una guitarra'.<br /><br />Su abuelo paterno es de raza gitana, y de él tomó su otro apodo, 'Gitano', en 1970 se convirtió en el primer latino en actuar y llenar el Madison Square Garden, en Nueva York, al realizar en vivo dos recitales ante 250 mil espectadores.<br /><br />Y en 2005 recibió el premio Grammy Latino a la Trayectoria, galardón que otorga la Academia Latina de Música en los Estados Unidos. Por ello también se le conoció como "Sandro de América".<br /><br />También protagonizó protagonizó 16 películas desplegando sus aptitudes como cantante y tuvo de compañeras a las españolas Carmen Sevilla y Rocío Durcal. Entre otros títulos, destacaron Quiero llenarme de ti (1969), La vida continúa (1069), Gitano (1970), Destino de un capricho (1972), El deseo de vivir (1973), Operación Rosa Rosa (1974), Tú me enloqueces (1976), y Subí que te llevo (1980).<br /><br />Incluso llegó a tener su propio programa de televisión, un show musical titulado "La Hora de Sandro" que se transmitía los sábados. En sus recitales los fanáticos colmaron varias veces el estadio de fútbol del club San Lorenzo y el polideportivo Luna Park, así como los teatros Gran Rex. Grabó álbumes con otras estrellas argentinas, como Mercedes Sosa, Charly García y Pedro Aznar.<br /><br />A principio de 2005 confirmó su retiro de los escenarios por imposibilidades físicas para mantenerse en escena debido a sus problemas respiratorios. /><br /><b>Concientización</b><br /><br />La crítica situación de Sandro en las últimas semanas dio lugar a una masiva campaña para crear conciencia sobre la donación de órganos.<br /><br />Tanto los programas radiales inspirados por el artista como los muchos sitios creados por sus fanáticas dedicaron su espacio a alertar sobre la falta de donantes en el país.<br /><br />A lo largo de sus cuatro El sedentarismo y una dieta poco variada son las causas principales. Para los especialistas, se trata de la gran epidemia del siglo XXI. Pero ahora, salió a la luz una nueva revelación científica: la patología podría tener, al menos, unos 3.500 años.<br /><br /><span id="fullpost">Según reveló el diario Público.es, en un estudio presentado en las sesiones científicas de la Asociación Estadounidense del Corazón (AHA), que se está celebrando en Orlando, Estados Unidos, científicos americanos anunciaron que el colesterol es de "la época de las momias".<br /><br />El profesor Randall Thompson, del Mid America Heart Institute (Kansas, EEUU), realizó "una tomografía axial computerizada (TAC, una conocida prueba de diagnóstico por imagen) a 22 momias del Museo de Antigüedades de El Cairo, datadas entre el año 1981 a.C. y el 364".<br /><br />La obstrucción de las arterias por capas de ateroma (grasa, principalmente colesterol), que se conoce como aterosclerosis, es una de sus mayores manifestaciones del colesterol.<br /><br />Las imágenes de las arterias coronarias de las momias fueron analizadas por cinco especialistas en diagnóstico por imagen. De acuerdo con los expertos, los "pacientes" presentaban "posible arterosclerosis". Identificaron calcificaciones en las paredes de arterias "claramente identificables", que se consideraron como un diagnóstico de aterosclerosis.<br /><br />Además, un equipo de egiptólogos realizó un estudio biológico, antropológico y demográfico para determinar la edad, el sexo y la clase social de las momias. Según el diario Público.es, "los investigadores pudieron identificar tejido cardiovascular en el 73% de las momias, es decir, en 16 de las 22 analizadas. La momia del ama de llaves de la reina Amrose Nefertari, Lady Rai, fue la enferma de aterosclerosis más antigua identificada".<br /><br />Las imágenes demostraron que el 31% de las momias sufría una obstrucción en las arterias, mientras que un 25% adicional presentaba probable aterosclerosis. Claro que las momias no compartían, dijeron los investigadores, los factores de riesgo actuales, como el tabaco o la comida procesada, con grasas saturadas.
