Hip-Hop Legend Guru Dies at 43

Guru, the pioneering hip-hop legend who united jazz and hip-hop as a solo artist and half of the influential duo Gang Starr, has died. He was 43.

Guru, whose real name was Keith Elam, died Monday after a battle with cancer, his producer, Solar, told MTV. Guru was hospitalized late February after suffering cardiac arrest and was briefly in a coma.

During his final days, Guru penned a farewell letter to his fans to be released upon his death, Solar said.

"I, Guru, am writing this letter to my fans, friends and loved ones around the world. I have had a long battle with cancer and have succumbed to the disease," the letter read. "I have suffered with this illness for over a year. I have exhausted all medical options. I have a non-profit organization called Each One Counts dedicated to carrying on my charitable work on behalf of abused and disadvantaged children from around the world and also to educate and research a cure for this terrible disease that took my life. I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting."

Ok, let's see. I'm a 50 year old truck driver that served 4 years in the Marine Corps. There are no ex Marines. Anyway, a few weeks ago someone pointed out the F@#k The Troops page on FaceBook. It pissed me off and I got to thinking about the troops and what they go through. It's sad that they have one of their own shooting them before they even get to a combat zone.

Every day there's a young person somewhere that wakes up and says "Today's the day I enlist." There's a young couple that have been married 3 years and the spouse has been deployed for 2 of those years. There's a soldier in a foxhole taking fire. When they all think "Why am I here? Why am I doing this?" I want them all to be able to go "Oh yeah, that dang truck driver." (And then the guy in the foxhole can get out and kick some ass and take some names.)

All I'm trying to do is show them that the little guy in America still has their back. That not everyone feels the way that the people on that FaceBook page feel.

So on May 3rd I'll be leaving Marysville Wa on a 9000 mile trip to show the troops that we still do care. My trip will take me from Marysville Wa down to San Diego Ca, over to Key West and up the coast to Boston MA. From there I'll head back to Seattle.

The troops don't get to sleep in a nice warm bed every night when they are deployed and neither will I. I'll be sleeping every night in a tent. I'm looking for places to pitch my tent in the following cities. If you or anyone you know wouldn't mind having me sleep in the yard for a night, let me know.

The cities are Roseburg OR, Sacramento CA, Anaheim CA, San Diego CA, Tucson AZ, El Paso TX, Sonora TX, Channelview TX, Biloxi MS, Lake City FL, Sarasota FL, Key West FL, Rockledge FL, Florence SC, Aberdeen MD, Boston MA, Horseheads NY, Toledo OH, Portage WI, Fergus Falls MN, Mendora ND, Livingston MT, Post Falls ID.

The Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and their counterparts in the Army and Air Force will be getting the word out to all the many bases that I'll be passing during my trip.

Thinking of those who have cancer

I know this is a little off base for this blog, but there are some people in our lives that are suffering from cancer. Its not everyday that we can give back to those who need help the most. So I thought I would post a link so that anyone that can give to research will have an easy way to do so. We have a member of the =Xtreme Eagles= that has cancer and his name is "Whistler" aka Aaron White. He is going threw chemotherapy now and is a strong man. He is fighting like we all knew he would. Also my Aunt Nancy Russell was diagnosed with lung cancer on Wednesday. She is a loving soul and amazing spirit. She is a butterfly that will fight as well.

Please keep these two in your prayers and others that are going threw the same thing. Cancer is something that we all have to worry about so always keep it in mind when we make decisions in our daily lives.

Today is the first day of the rest of our lives. Live, love, laugh like there is no tomorrow, because no one is guaranteed anything in life. God bless all who know someone with Cancer and I know I pray everyday for a cure for this horrible disease.

DICE promises to never charge for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 maps

On the heels of Activision charging $15 for the 5-map Modern Warfare 2 DLC package, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 developer DICE has stated that it doesn't want to charge for extra maps and that the company has "insisted" to EA that the publisher doesn't add fees for customers.

While Battlefield franchise developer DICE had previously stated to VideoGamer.com that it didn't want to "nickel-and-dime" its customers when it comes to DLC, the company was even more emphatic when speaking to Xbox World 360 Magazine, with the company's senior producer Patrick Bach stating "We don't ever want to charge for our maps and insisted to EA that this attitude was crucial." DICE has not ruled out charging for other content, particularly "expanding other parts of the game experience rather than the selection of maps."

Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you all know that things are going well for me over here. I am sorry that I have not been able to get on the web sites to shout or vote. I know its all good but I still feel like I need to. I miss hanging out with the community and know that there is much happening that I am unable to partake in, but I will just have to play catch up when I deploy back to Kentucky.
My unit is doing good things over here we have been able to expand our responsibilities to some new areas and can support the out side the wire guys more directly. Its been a good deployment so far and we have had no loss of personell despite having had helicopters shot down and attacks at the camp. So as long as the soldiers keep up the good work we will all make it back safe.
The guys have been able to enjoy all the stuff you have sent over here and wish to forward their thanks to you all for making it happen. It is really cool that we have such a supportive public despite the length this engagement has taken. Im proud to be a part of =XE= and I am glad to have known everyone in the community and look forward to getting to know the newer members and taking part in the community again.
I hope that each of you, our members and familys are well and are doing prosperouse in these times. I will be home on R&R leave around the 5th of September, I will be busy with moving into the new home but I will still be able to jump in and say hi. Thanks again for all you have done and Ilook forward to talking to Ya'll when I get back.

Google’s Android to Run Laptops, Challenge Microsoft (Update1)

June 3 (Bloomberg) -- Google Inc. is set to offer its free Android mobile-phone operating system for computers, opening a new front in its rivalry with Microsoft Corp. by challenging the dominance of the company’s Windows software.

Acer Inc., the world’s second-largest laptop maker, will release a low-cost notebook powered by Android next quarter, Jim Wong, head of information-technology products at the Taipei- based company, said yesterday. Asustek Computer Inc., pioneer of the sub-$500 laptops known as netbooks, also has developed a model that runs on Google’s software, Chairman Jonney Shih said.

The adoption of Android-based netbooks may eat into Windows’s share of about 90 percent worldwide for personal- computer operating systems. Google’s move escalates pressure on Microsoft as it prepares to introduce Windows 7, said Calvin Huang, an analyst at Daiwa Securities Group Inc.

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) – A US weapons lab on Friday pulled back the curtain on a super laser with the power to burn as hot as a star.

The National Ignition Facility's main purpose is to serve as a tool for gauging the reliability and safety of the US nuclear weapons arsenal but scientists say it could deliver breakthroughs in safe fusion power.

"We have invented the world's largest laser system," actor-turned-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said during a dedication ceremony attended by thousands including state and national officials.

"We can create the stars right here on earth. And I can see already my friends in Hollywood being very upset that their stuff that they show on the big screen is obsolete. We have the real stuff right here."

This was sent to me in an email. I did not post this to hurt anyone's feelings, but this needs to be said for us American's.

I was buying food the other day at the country market on the label of some products it said from china. For example the" our family" brand of the mandarin oranges says right on the can from china i was shocked!! So for a few more cents I bought the liberty gold brand or the dole is from CA. Takes forever just to buy food and do label reading, but it is a small price to pay.

Are we Americans as dumb as we appear --- or --- is it that we just do not think? While the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in American markets, the media wrings its hands and criticizes the Bush Administration for perceived errors.

Yet 70% of Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended. Well, duh. Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges?

SIMPLY DO IT YOURSELF, AMERICA!

Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can
do without.

Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some American farmer. Easter is just an example, the point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own.

THINK ABOUT THIS If 200 million Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor...fast!!

The downside? Some American businesses will feel a temporary pinch from having foreign stockpiles of inventory. Wah, wah, wah.

The solution? Let's give them fair warning and send our own message. Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on June 4, and continue it until July 4. That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12^th of the total, or 8%, of their American exports. Then they will at least have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it. (Maybe the will ask, I it is doubtful)

Remember, June 4 to July 4.

Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are Americans and NOBODY can take us for granted.

If we can't live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET!

Pass it on, America. If only the whole country would wake up and pay attention to this. They poison our kids with lead paint, poison our pet's and say sorry, and we are dumb enough to consume food they send us. Just how stupid are we? I've been boycotting Chinese goods as much as possible and believe me you have to do your homework. I even pointed out to several people that the flags they bought are made in china. To me that’s the last straw, a slap in the face. It should be against the law to import our country’s great symbol. Thank the commie lovers in Washington for that. Excuse me, but when I think of how our great grand children will have to live. They won't have the freedoms we had when we were growing up if we don't wake up and if we don't do something about it.

E3 2009: Unreal Engine 3 Screens

May 15, 2009 - At GDC 2009 Epic unveiled a number of improvements to the Unreal Engine 3. The specific upgrades include a lot of fancy tech talk like a "new global illumination solver that produces high-quality static lighting with next-generation effects."

Today the company announced that these new features for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 will be on display at E3. Stay tuned for the big show and all of our coverage coming on June 2,3, and 4 straight from the LA Convention Center.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Revealed

Activision Blizzard confirms and dates the sequel to the critically-acclaimed shooter.

December 3, 2008 - Activision Blizzard has revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, sequel to Infinity Ward's award-winning first-person shooter.

According to MTV Multiplayer, the publisher revealed the game at a Massive Inc. upfront held in Manhattan, NY. These upfront events typically allow publishers to display their games to advertisers.

While little is known of the game, MTV reports that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is coming out sometime this fall.

Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon 4

April 29, 2009 - Within their fiscal report for 2008-09 Ubisoft announced a slew of new information. Included in their "confirmed 2009-10 targets" they listed Ghost Recon 4 as one of their flagship titles that will ship within this time frame.

No other information was made available about the title, and many questions still remain. We're still in the dark about which consoles it will be available for but judging by the history of the series we're guessing it will at least appear on 360, PS3, and PC. It is also unclear whether or not this is part of the "Advanced Warfighter" series. Remember that we've seen Desert Siege, Island Thunder, and numerous other spin-offs. The "4" might indicate that this is a true sequel to the original franchise.
