How To: Share Your Files

You shot some images over your vacation and securely stored them in Wuala. Now you want to show them to your friends. Nothing simpler than that. We made sharing your files not only secure, but really easy!

Let's see, here are your beautiful images

Right-click your folder in the tree view on the left and choose "Sharing Options".

First, click on "Share by Secret Weblink" in order to open the quick sharing dialog

You can edit the secret key or just use the predefined one and copy the link to your clipboard. Done, you can paste the link to your desired application or social media network.

Now for the extended sharing dialog, right-click your folder again, choose "Sharing Options" and this time click on "Manage Folder Access" (or use Ctrl+Shift+S on your keyboard).

Here you have the possibility to choose between the different sharing options. You can share your files just with your Wuala contacts, with a secret link or publicly.

If you don't want to share your files anymore, just right-click your folder, choose "Sharing Options" and click "Make Private"

Your folder will revoke the shared access and will be only visible to you again.

How To: Use Time Travel

As we all know, loosing files is really a pain for everyone involved. The possibility to delete something by accident can never be completely ruled out. But don't worry, that's why we have our Time Travel for. Here's how to use it:

Here are some pictures that we're syncing across multiple devices

Now by accident, we deleted some files locally on our computer (you can see the missing images)

Luckily enough, we can use the Time Travel to get those images back. Just click on "Show Time Travel" or press F8 on your keyboard.

With the Time Travel enabled at the bottom, you can slide through time until you find your images. You'll notice the small trash icon below the files, letting you know that the files are deleted, but still available for restoring.

And now, simply right click the file you want restored and press "Restore".

That's it, your file is now available again and will get synced to the different devices.

Hi everybody,

My name is Andreas "Andee" Frischknecht and I have joined Wuala to lead the integration and testing team.

I started my IT career back in 1999 working in network and Linux/Solaris system administration. Later I switched over to software development writing code in Java and C#.

I spend most of my free time with my family (that's my daughter on the picture btw.), reading books (at current I am working my way through the Spenser novels by Robert Parker), and occasionally I am active on Stackoverflow, sleuthing for interesting questions to answer. ("interesting" == stuff related to asynchronous/concurrent programming, performance-tuning, and/or obscure programming language features.)

I am thrilled to be working again on the forefront of technology, at a place where I can bring in both my experience in system administration and software development, and together with a fantastic team of exceptionally smart guys. I couldn't have wished for anything better!

Automatic Camera Upload For Android

The newest Wuala for Android release has just hit the Google Play Store, you can download it here. We packed quite a lot of new features in this release, here is a small selection:

The layout has been optimized for tablets, including a three view when you're in landscape mode

You can view your files in a beautiful full screen mode

The modified date has been made easier to read

You can now sort all your files by date

Change your download location to your SD card

One notification for all uploads and last but not least

Automatic camera upload:

You can activate or change the automatic camera upload (and the upload location) in the Wuala settings. Just take an image or video and it will get uploaded securely to the Wuala cloud. Download the latest version for Wuala for Android here.

Backup for groups

You want to backup your files but at the same time are looking for a easy way to share them without giving writing access? That is now possible, just perform a backup in a group, share the group and give your members access to view the files.

Multi admin support for companies

You have securely stored all your company's files in a Wuala business group, but you would like to have multiple admins because you're leaving for vacation soon and need a deputy. The Wuala business groups now offer the ability to have more then just one admin for a company.

Sync for LaCie NAS devices

You have connected your LaCie NAS directly to your TV and like to watch your series you have stored on your NAS. To always have the latest episode, you can set up Wuala to sync the videos from your computer to your NAS, so you won't run out of new episodes to watch. Please note that the update for your 2big NAS and 5big NAS PRO will be out in two weeks.

As always, you can read the full release notes here. In the next few hours Wuala will update itself automatically, although you can just restart Wuala in order to update instantly.

A note to recent security scandals

Current scandals affecting the NSA and PRISM ignited a debate discussing whether security is more important than privacy. We think that no government or agency but you as an individual should be able to choose the answer for that question. And that is exactly why we want to give you a secure infrastructure, where you can decide if you want to keep the files for yourself or share them with others. With Wuala, you're able to have the best of both worlds. Our client-side-encryption technology ensures that your data is encrypted on your local device, before getting uploaded to our servers based in Switzerland, Germany and France. That means, even if someone would have access to the server, all he gets is chunked encrypted data. Plus, you are the only one having a password to decrypt the files and the password is never transmitted to us. That means you're the only one having access over your data.

As you can see, not even we as provider have access to your data, nor has any other government or company.

What we guarantee as a secure cloud storage provider:

Your data will always be stored in Europe

Your password will never be transmitted

We always encrypt your data before it is transmitted

We are not able to sell, scan, search or sell your data

We will delete all your data when you decide to terminate your account

As a side note, many of you are asking now, why we don't open up the source for the client. The fact is, we would like to open source Wuala, but there is a lot of internal work to do. That means we're eventually opening up Wuala for the public, but can't do that in the near future. Rest assured that security is the top priority here at Wuala and it will always be.

How To: Get Log Files For Your Sync or Backup

In this post we want to show you, how to get your sync or backup logs in three simple steps:

As you can see in the following image, we have synced some wallpapers across two computers

Now, all you have to do is select (1) the sync from your current device (that is normally the first one on the list) and then click (2) on the small file icon on the right

This will open a new window, as you can see in the next image.

Just press the "Create Log" button and Wuala will tell you where it saved the zipped log files. That's it, you're already done.

The new page has been developed and designed from scratch, using the latest technologies which not only makes it adapt to every device from mobile to desktop, but we also increased the overall speed for an even faster sharing experience. Share your files from the Wuala Client with a public or private link (example) and enjoy the new features such as:

Choose between list and gallery view on the rop right, without need to reload the page

Click the image to open a image gallery or

choose to download or share your file with the fading-in buttons on the right

Share your files via Facebook, Twitter, Email or just copy and paste the link to your desired application or social network

If you're on a mobile device, just hit the "+" button and expand your view for download, sharing or information regarding your file
