The post WPML Export and Import 1.0 – A One-Click Way to Move Multilingual WordPress Content appeared first on WPML.
]]>Exporting and importing content on WordPress takes time, especially if you have a website with a lot of content. Managing multiple import files and settings can get tricky. The more complex your data—with custom fields, custom post types, or WooCommerce products with variations—the more steps you face.
We understand these challenges, and we can’t change how the WordPress export and import process works. But, we can ensure that moving multilingual content doesn’t make things harder.
WPML Export and Import presents a fresh approach to multilingual imports and exports. It allows you to use your favorite export and import tools without any added complexity. After importing your content, a single click sets the language information and links translations seamlessly.
WPML Export and Import is a universal solution that is designed to work with all WordPress export and import tools. To enhance your import experience even more, it comes with full support for a variety of popular third-party export and import tools and plugins.
Here’s how using WPML Export and Import with a supported plugin enhances your experience:
This effortless export and import experience works with:

WPML Export and Import doesn’t just work with a variety of import and export tools – it also adapts to a variety of workflows. You can move content between WordPress sites or import from spreadsheets.
It efficiently manages different types of data, including taxonomy, post types, or WooCommerce products, ensuring your multilingual content is handled with care.
In a nutshell, here’s how WPML Export and Import works its magic:
See the WPML Export and Import documentation for more details.
You and your team might manage multilingual information in spreadsheets and prefer to import these into a WordPress site. For such scenarios, you only need to add three language columns to your spreadsheet. These columns provide WPML Export and Import with the necessary language information to link your translations seamlessly.
After adding these columns, you can proceed with your usual import plugin. Once the import is complete, a single click lets WPML Export and Import update the language details.
To see how smoothly this process works, watch our video tutorial:

]]>The post Maintain BuddyPress 12.0 and WPML Compatibility with the BP Classic Add-on appeared first on WPML.
]]>A major release, BuddyPress 12.0.0 is set to bring enhancements such as:
Most significantly, BuddyPress 12.0.0 no longer makes BP Rewrites an optional add-on. It introduces the BP Rewrites API into the core BuddyPress plugin.
This new way of parsing URLs changes BuddyPress’ behavior on your site. It affects URL structures within BuddyPress and it affects compatibility with some plugins and themes that integrate with BuddyPress, including WPML.
To address these compatibility issues, the BuddyPress development team released the BP Classic Add-on.
The BP Rewrites API is a major overhaul. Out of the box, WPML and BuddyPress Multilingual do not support these changes to BuddyPress websites.
If you use BuddyPress with WPML, you should install and activate the BP Classic Add-on on your site right away. BuddyPress will keep the activated BP Classic add-on in sleep mode and wake it up as soon as you upgrade to BuddyPress 12.0.
The BP Classic Add-on preserves the BP Legacy URL parser, which your site currently uses, and disables the new BP Rewrites API. This allows you to maintain multilingual features on your BuddyPress site without disruption.
Please note that you only need to install the BP Classic Add-On if you use the BuddyPress plugin with WPML. You do not need to install it if you use the BuddyBoss Platform with WPML.
You can download the BP Classic Add-on from the WordPress repository.

]]>The post WPML 4.6.8 – Simplified Review for Hidden Languages and Other Enhancements appeared first on WPML.
]]>Working with hidden languages allows you to prepare and review translations for your content before making them available on the front-end.
Previously, you needed to enable an option that allowed users to review translations for hidden languages. WPML 4.6.8 removes the need for you to configure these additional user profile settings.
Now, your site admins, Translation Managers, and users added as a Translator can review translations for hidden languages right away.
A consistent translation workflow makes it easier to manage your multilingual WordPress website and reduces the risk of overwriting or losing translations. But, it can be hard to remember how you created and translated different types of content, especially on large sites.
To help you maintain translation consistency, WPML 4.6.8 defaults to the native WordPress editor for certain translation types. This includes imported translations and pages linked using the Connect with translations feature.
If you use professional translation services to translate your site’s content, clicking to edit the translations will open the Classic Translation Editor.
WPML 4.6.8 introduces a new option to the migration wizard that allows you to mark your original site as an independent copy.
By default, when you move your site to a new URL, WPML automatically restricts adding or editing translations on the old URL. The newly introduced option allows you to use the Advanced Translation Editor and automatic translation features on both the new and old site URLs.
This version of WPML additionally fixes issues related to:
WPML 4.6.8 also resolves other bugs and glitches.
As with all versions, we are releasing WPML 4.6.8 out in batches. If you want to update to it before it reaches your site, you can go to Plugins → Add New and click the Commercial tab. Then, hit the Check for updates button.

]]>Our team puts tremendous effort and work into developing WPML, and the authors of other themes and plugins do as well. But, in the dynamic world of WordPress, compatibility issues can happen.
To keep your WordPress site running smoothly, WPML provides an option that sends us information about the themes and plugins you’re using on your site. When you select this option, it helps us:
Your trust is our top priority. When you enable this feature, we only collect the list of plugins and themes your site uses. No other information about your site, its usage, or yourself is shared.
We reach out to you only when we spot a significant compatibility concern or there’s an update you shouldn’t miss. You won’t get spam – just critical information you need to keep things running smoothly
You can enable the option to share the list of active themes and plugins on your site from two places.
When installing WPML on a new site, you’ll come across this setting in the Support step of the Setup Wizard.
If you already have WPML set up on your site, go to WPML → Languages and scroll down to Reporting to wpml.org.
Did you know about this WPML feature and what it’s for? Do you usually enable or disable it on your sites?

WooCommerce Multilingual 5.3 also fixes the multicurrency integration with the Product Add-ons extension.
WooCommerce Multilingual 5.3 optimizes performance, giving you and your site’s visitors a smoother and faster experience.

]]>With collaboration plugins, you and your team can work smoothly on different tasks, from debugging to content creation and translation. For instance, these plugins offer features like real-time notifications for team members handling translations, and the ability to organize translation tasks into projects. This helps keep your team on track and enables you to deliver better results for your site visitors.
Additionally, user management plugins assist in clearly defining roles and responsibilities within your team. By setting distinct roles, you ensure everyone knows their tasks and prevent issues on the site. This also makes it possible for guest users, such as your clients, to view the translated content and provide feedback without accessing the backend of your website or disrupting any existing content.
WordPress offers a variety of tools and plugins designed to improve how you and your team work together. These tools integrate directly within your WordPress site. Here’s why this is a game-changer:
Having a centralized workspace right within WordPress eliminates the need to jump between different project management tools, messaging platforms, or document-sharing systems. Everything you need is nestled within your WordPress dashboard.

With fewer platforms to hop around, you save a chunk of time which you can channel into other creative or critical tasks.
Here’s where we step in with our handpicked recommendations to empower you and your team to work side by side on your multilingual WordPress websites.
These plugins all boast free versions and premium versions with different features catering to your needs.
