55 022 ‘EAST LANCASHIRE RAILWAY’ DIESEL GALA 3RD & 4TH MARCH

55 022 is taking part in the East Lancashire Railway’s Spring Diesel Gala on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th March. The gala should also feature all of the Railway’s currently operational locomotives and a special attraction planned is the return to traffic of Class 14 locomotive D9531, which has not worked a train since 1997. Other locos rostered are 20 087, 33 109, D7076, 37 109, 37 901, D335, D1501 and 50 015, timings for trains booked to be hauled by ‘Royal Scots Grey’ are shown below. EAST LANCASHIRE RAILWAY ‘DRIVE A DELTIC’

‘Royal Scots Grey’ worked a Freight Drivers Experience Day at the East Lancashire Railway on Saturday 18th February. Thanks very much to all for taking part and I trust that they had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The next Footplate Expererience Days at the ELR are both schedued for 55 022, this is a Freight day on Saturday 28th April and a Passenger day on Friday 12th October. E.L.R. D9016 FOOTPLATE EXPERIENCE DAYS

‘Gordon Highlander’ worked the first half of Friday 10th Februarys Passenger Footplate Experience day at the East Lancashire Railway, unfortunately a fractured main reservoir air pipe lead to the loco being removed at Bury exactly half way through the day. Fortunately ‘Royal Scots Grey’ was prepared and was waiting to stand in by the time the train arrived at Bury and completed the rest of the day, thanks to Adrian Henderson at the E.L.R. for getting 55 022 ready and putting D9016 away. All 8 ‘drivers’ seemed to have a very enjoyable day and also thanks for their participation.

Due to the defective main reservoir air pipe on D9016, 55 022 is now scheduled to haul this Saturday’s Freight Driver Experience at the Railway. We’re sure that all who have booked to drive will be content with this, however apologies for any dissapointment this may cause.

55 022 at the E.L.R. 4th & 5th February

Apologies to all who visited the East Lancashire Railway on Saturday 4^th February, to travel behind ‘Royal Scots Grey’. Due to several operational problems, mainly the extreme weather, heavy snow caused severe disruption to services. Many volunteers at the railway worked extremely hard in the harsh conditions in an attempt to run as normal a service as possible. The planned photo-shoot with Hymek D7076 and D9016 ‘Gordon Highlander’ was eventually cancelled due to the snow causing problems with points and signaling at Bury, however, some great images were taken of 55 022 following arrival of the last service from Heywood. We hope that the planned event will soon be re-dated and conditions will be far more suitable.

As a result of the extreme weather 55 022 worked additional trains on Sunday 5th February, thanks to all involved for their valued co-operation.

‘RSG’ is now planned to work services today at the East Lancs. A good opportunity for some to get a few snowy photos, perhaps if you do, you’d allow us to use them on our website. Hope that the day will run more smoothly than yesterday when normal services were disrupted by the heavy snowfall.

New Railtour for NRM Railfest 2012

We’re pleased to announce that 55022 is booked to work another Pathfinder Tours trip in June this year. On June 2nd, the The York Flyer tour starting from Didcot with pick ups at Oxford, the Midlands and finally Tame Bridge, will travel via Crewe to Warrington and then from Manchester across the Trans-Pennine route to York.
