Really funny and very true video. However what have we collectively done as agencies, be it advertising, communications, marketing, PR etc., to create such a lack of trust in us and our services in the first place?

It’s worth checking out Seth’s recent post. In a nutshell he reminds us what we should be looking out for as we consider, develop and deploy new marketing materials.

VW’s social experiment is great marketing

A while back I gave VW a bit of hard time for their appalling crisis management over a Greenpeace attack. Now for something completely different.

So quick recap for all you visitors from Mars, VW builds car and motorbikes, you know the sort of thing, generally fashioning an engine, wheels, metal, plastic, perhaps a bit of faux leather etc. They’re great for moving from one place to another, with minimal leg work.

Now watch this:

Just a reminder to all you peeps who market your products and it’s always about your products… I hope this VW initiative helps you think differently about what inspires your audience to remember you more positively. It isn’t necessarily more of your product

Online video just got a gazillion times more exciting

Not only is this TED talk by Beau Lotto about changing perception and the power of play fascinating. Check out the use of Popcorn, a web app that lets you enrich video or audio files with more content like live Twitter feeds or embedding related info from other websites. I guess the limitation is one’s own imagination.

I love everything about video and Popcorn tech has just made it a gazillion times more exciting.

Videos I’ve made over the years

Always feeling guilty about not adding new content to this blog. But by the end of the day, I generally have blogitus after talking, training, planning, coaching and developing content… for other people.

I’ve been wondering how I could continue to add content and then I realised I should at least track some of the content I make for others. So I’ve just made a playlist in Youtube of the videos I’ve made (mostly interviews). To view them click on the link below the Youtube icon in the right-hand column –>. There’s over 90 videos since 2007, with more on their way in the next few weeks.

In the early days, we shot video with a basic domestic camcorder, sometimes with a flimsy tripod, otherwise it was handheld and a plug-in mic. Lighting quality was generally terrible, good sound was pure luck, but we had fun and it was really exciting.

Today we’ve upgraded and all video is professionally shot and edited by Catcus AV audio visual, so the film quality is delicious.

Anyway, that’s videos at least.
