I’ve come up with a few suggestions for you based on experiences I’ve had over the last 18 years as a lawyer here in California. These can only be construed as “legal” here in California as I am not licensed to practice in other states.

Here is another one: If you borrow someone’s car, be sure that it is insured. If the car is not insured, then make sure your own insurance will cover you in someone else’s car. Driving without insurance is a very expensive ticket; here in California you’re looking at about $1,500 or so.

Oh while you are at it, check to see that the registration is current. To do it really right, take a look to see if the lights all work, including the turn signals [more on that later], the horn as well ….. ‘cause if you get stopped, you will be the one with the fixit ticket. What, you have to pay for the registration? Yep!
