“Verily, As‑Salaah (the prayer) prevents from Al‑Fahsha’ (i.e. great sins of every kind, unlawful sexual intercourse) and Al‑Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism, and every kind of evil wicked deed)”

[al-‘Ankaboot 29:45]

It was narrated that ‘Amr ibn Murrah al-Juhani said: A man came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) from Qadaa’ah and said to him: “O Messenger of Allaah, what do you think if I bear witness that there is no god except Allaah and that you are His Messenger, and I pray the five daily prayers, and fast the month (of Ramadaan), and pray qiyaam in Ramadaan, and pay zakaah?” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever dies doing that will be one of the siddeeqs and martyrs.”

Narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Ibn Khuzaymah, 2212.

Al-Tirmidhi (1984) narrated that ‘Ali said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “In Paradise there are apartments the outside of which can be seen from the inside and the inside of which can be seen from the outside.” A Bedouin stood up and said: “Who are they for, O Messenger of Allaah?” He said: “They are for those who speak good words, feed others, fast regularly and pray to Allaah at night when people are sleeping.” Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

Al-Haakim narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Jibreel came to me and said: ‘O Muhammad, live as long as you want, for you will die. Love whomever you want, for you will leave him. Do whatever you want for you will be requited for it. Remember that the believer’s honour is his praying at night, and his pride is his being independent of people.” Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 73.

The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever prays qiyaam reciting ten verses will not be recorded as one of the negligent. Whoever prays qiyaam reciting one hundred verses will be recorded as one of the devout. Whoever prays qiyaam reciting one thousand verses will be recorded as one of the muqantireen.”

Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1398; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

The muqantireen are those who will be given a qintaar of reward. A qintaar is a large amount of gold, and most of the scholars of Arabic language are of the view that it is four thousand dinars.

And it was said that a qintaar is a bull’s hide full of gold, or eighty thousand, or a large but unspecified amount of wealth. See al-Nihaayah fi Ghareeb il-Hadeeth by Ibn al-Atheer.

What is meant by this hadeeth is to emphasize the greatness of the reward earned by the one who recites a thousand verses. Al-Tabaraani narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “A qintaar is better than this world and everything in it.” Classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 638.

Note:

Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar said: From Soorat Tabaarak [al-Mulk] to the end of the Qur’aan is one thousand verses.

Whoever prays qiyaam reciting from Soorat Tabaarak to the end of Qur’aan has prayed qiyaam with one thousand verses.

And Allaah knows best.

Oh Turner of the Hearts keep our Hearts firm on Your Religion

Salih Luhaydan mentioned a nice benefit during his class tonight at the Haram in Makkah(7/2/2009). He mentioned that, ” If you come across someone performing an innovation, remember to praise Allah, the Most high. Remember to praise Allah, the Most High, because he hasn’t tested you with that innovation. “

He also mentioned that, “No one is safe from misguidance. So remember to constantly ask Allah to keep you on the straight path.”

A du’aa that he mentioned pertaining to this is:

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِى عَلَى دِينِكَ

Yaa Muqallibal Quloob Thabbit Qalbee ‘alaa Deenik.

“Oh turner of the hearts (Allah, the Most High), keep our hearts firm on your religion“

[Authenticated by al-Albanee in al-Jaam'i as-Sagheer 1323/7988]

Url source : http://www.salafitalk.net/st/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=9&Topic=9012

If Allaah wills, He can seal the heart from guidance. Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin al-‘Aas said, that he heard Allaah’s Messenger saying, “All the hearts of the offspring of Aadam are between two fingers of Ar-Rehman’s Fingers, as one heart. He turns it (in any direction) as He wills. Then Allaah’s Messenger said, “O Allaah! The Turner of the hearts, turn our heart towards Your obedience.” [Saheeh Muslim vol.4, p.1397, no.6418]

The Importance of supplicating for steadfastness, and uprightness in the religion upto the end of one’s life.

Indeed the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) used to do so, and taught us to do so, as in the hadeeth of Umm Salamah by Shihr who said : ‘I said to Umm Salamah : ‘O Mother of the Believers, what is the duaa’ which the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) would supplicate the most while in your presence? ’

So she said : ‘The frequent supplication of his was :

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ

“O, Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Your obedience.”

And also reported by Imaam Ahmad , from the hadeeth of ‘Aisha (radhiyaAllaahu anha): ‘The Dua’ which the Prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) used to supplicate with a lot…’ then she mentioned it.

Assalaamu alaykum,

I hope you all are doing well. I just wanted to take a minute and remind everyone to be sure to register for the upcoming Al Maghrib seminar, Precious Provisions. Amongst all of the classes that Al Maghrib offers, I think that this class has the most far reaching and relevant material for us Muslims here in the West. It goes without saying that food and clothing are things we deal with every day.

You’ve probably heard the Doritos gimmick… while that’s a fun question, this class will definitely take a serious look at what we eat and what we wear. I think many will be pleasantly surprised.

Whether you eat only halal or don’t, no matter if you wear a hijab or not, thobes, beards, whatever it is…. the information and the experience that this class offers just in one single weekend really will help each of you I think in even the smallest ways.

And more than just the knowledge, I think everyone will get a better sense of our religion and how it fits into our lives and into this society inshaAllah.

Hope to see you all there.

- Tariq Islam

Maa shaa Allaah such a beautiful hadeeth to ponder about…

Tirmidhi #76 records on the authority of Nawwas ibn Sam’an that the messenger of Allah (sallallahu alyhi wa sallam) said:

“Allah has set forth the following as a parable:

There is a road that leads straight to the destination. On either side of the road there is a wall in which there are open doors with curtains hanging on them. From the remote end of the road, a voice calls, ‘proceed straight and do not turn aside’. Whenever someone intends to lift a curtain from the door another voice calls from above. ‘Beware! Do not lift the curtain; otherwise you will be lured inside’. The prophet (sallallahu alyhi wa sallaam) explained the parable by saying that the straight path is Islam. the walls are the limits imposed by Allah, the open doors are the things that He has prohibited, the voice which calls from the end of the road is the Quran and the voice which calls from above is Allah’s monitor in the heart of every believer”.

It was declared Hasan Gharib by Tirmidhee and sahih by Hakim #245 with Dhahabi agreeing and Al-Albani , sahih al-Jami’ #3887

——————————————–

Not joining the prayer until the Imaam stands back up for the next Rak’ah

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful…

Since the latecomer to the congregational prayer does not count the rak’ah unless he has joined during the rukoo’, some people believe that if they come after the rukoo’ there is no point in joining the prayer until the imaam stands back up for the next rak’ah, even if it means standing there looking around for a long time while the congregation makes tashah-hud!

Here’s why this is forbidden from a four-fold textual standpoint:

1) The generality of the hadeeth which is found in al-Bukhaaree and Muslim:

‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“The imaam has only been appointed to be followed…” 2) And in one wording in al-Bukhaaree (722):
‎‎‎‎‎“…So do not contradict him…”

The one who stands there waiting for the imaam to stand has not followed the imaam, in fact he has contradicted him!

3) In the same hadeeth:

‎‎‎‎‎‎‎“…So if he makes takbeer (says: “Allaahu akbar”), then make takbeer…”

The one who stands there waiting for the imaam to rise has not made the takbeers that go with each movement, and thus has violated this order.

4) The clearest hadeeth in the issue (if you were saying, “Well, that’s not clear enough for me…”):

‎‎‎“If you have come to the prayer and we are prostrating, then prostrate,
but do not count it (as a rak’ah)…” This hadeeth was collected by Aboo Daawood in his Sunan (893) from the narration of Aboo Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him). Al-Albaanee graded it hasan.

I don’t think the last narration leaves any room for confusion, does it? May Allaah grant us success in following the Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhe wa sallam) in all our words and deeds, secret and open. And Allaah knows best.

Khâlid b. ‘Umayr Al-’Adawî reports, ‘Utbah b. Ghazwân – Allâh be pleased with him – once gave us a sermon. He praised Allâh, then said:
The life of this world has announced its departure and is quickly turning away, and nothing remains of it save the likes of the last drop of water in a vessel as its possessor tries to catch it. You are moving on to an abode that has no end, so move on with the best [deeds] that you have. For it has been said to us that a rock can be dropped from the edge of Hell and fall for seventy years without reaching the bottom. Yet, by Allâh, it will be filled. Do you not then wonder? And it has been said to us that a single entrance to Paradise is as wide as a journey of forty years, yet there will come a day when it will be crowded.

I have seen myself as the seventh of seven [followers of] Allâh’s Messenger – Allâh’s peace and blessings be upon him; we had no food save the leaves of trees which put sores round our mouths. I once got a cloak which I tore in half to share with Sa’d b. Mâlik: I used half as my waist-wrap and he used the other. And yet today, there is not one of us except he has become a governor over some city – and I seek refuge with Allâh that I consider myself great and important when I am small in front of Allâh. Verily there was never prophet-hood except that it gradually changed until it ended up being a kingship, and verily you will see what the governors after us are like.

Cairo, February 28: One year before graduation to become a doctor, Turkish medical student Fatma Orgel was put in a bitter choice; to take off her hijab or give up her dream of a medical career.

“I could either not finish my degree, or go to another country to study,” Orgel told The Sydney Morning Herald Saturday, February 27.

One year before Orgel’s graduation, Turkey enacted a law in 1999 banning hijab on campus.

The legislation left the young Turkish student torn apart between her aspiration of becoming a doctor and her hijab, an obligatory code of dress.

“When the ban came into force my parents saw their dreams of me becoming a doctor disappearing,” Orgel, now 35, recalled.

“They begged me to take off the headscarf and keep going to university.”

But, Orgel, who grew up in a traditional family to a religious teacher and a housewife in the south-west city of Antalya, could not think of taking off her veil.

Eventually, she took the hard decision of going abroad to Hungary to complete her medical studies.

“I said no,” she recalled.

“In the end I was lucky and I found a way to continue my studies, but most others cannot do this.”

Completing her studies, Orgel returned to Turkey to stumble with the hijab ban in government offices, leaving her with no option but to leave the country for London for working as doctor.

“I worked there for 12 months and I forgot I was even wearing the headscarf,” she said.

“No one cared. I kept having to tell myself that I was wearing it, even though I was working in a big state hospital.”

Hijab has long been a highly divisive issue in the overwhelmingly Muslim but secular Turkey.

It has been banned in public buildings, universities, schools and government buildings since shortly after a 1980 military coup.

In February 2008, the parliament voted to overturn the ban on wearing the headscarf on campus, but the decision was later overturned by the High Court on the ground it infringed the country’s secularist principles.

Why

Orgel says that lots of misunderstanding are prevailing in secular Turkey about hijab and modernization.

“The Turkish nation always looks to the West, to Europe, and believes that banning the headscarf is a step towards modernization,” she said.

The Turkish doctor said that the ban discriminates against hijab-clad women who want to abide by the Islamic teachings.

“The real effect is the opposite,” said Orgel.

“It means that women who observe the Qur’an are barred from a university education.”

The hijab ban also denies Turkish women who are aspiring to escape a lower socio-economic class the opportunity.

“When Islam is viewed from the outside, many see the scarf as the symbol of repression, that we are being forced to do this against our will,” she said.

“I made the decision when I was around 15 that I would wear the headscarf.

It became part of my spirituality, part of my perception of life.”

Orgel is now a member of the executive board of AKDER, a human rights organization that fights discrimination against Muslim women.

“Why is wearing the headscarf not my decision?” Dr Orgel asks.

“If I decide to wear the headscarf, then I should be able to wear it. Why should I not be free to make my own decisions?”

This book list the virtues of a critical aspect of this protection: the HIJAB. The characteristics of the Hijab are discussed, bringing the glad tidings promised (by Allah) to those women adhering to it. It also points out the danger of dazzling displays of ornaments and beauty as well as the terrible repercussions in this life and in the hereafter for those who practice Tabar’roj.

by Maryam Amir-Ebrahimi

“My iman (faith) is really low,” a sister recently expressed to me. “There was a point in my life where I tasted the sweetness of being connected with Islam and Allah, but I just don’t feel anything any more. And I see the effect it has on me. I’m doing things I’m not supposed to do. I feel bad, and I say I won’t do it again, but I do.”

Check it out: we all mess up, subhan’Allah (Glory be to Allah). Adam (may Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala send His peace upon him) was told by Allah Himself not to go near the tree:

“And O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you will but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.” (Qur’an, 7:19)

And yet Adam (`alayhis salam) still fell. Adam was not commanded by a parent, a boss, or a spouse; it was Allah Who gave this order to Adam (peace be upon him) directly. And yet Adam still ‘messed up’. So what about you and I?

Look, we all sin and we all massively fall; we feel a tremendous decrease in our iman, an enormous distance in our once-close relationship with Allah, and we begin to find ourselves slipping away from the sweet connection we once had with Allah in a downward spiral which seemingly has no way up. However, let us not despair! There is major hope!

Allah, the Most High, has told us in a Hadith Qudsi:

“O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great at it.”

Allahu Akbar (God is the Greatest)!
