My fiance struggles with intense, crippling migraines due to the change of seasons, seasonal allergies, and particularly harsh weather such as thunderstorms and snowstorms. When a migraine strikes, his entire world stops dead, and quite understandably, he is concerned with nothing but getting rid of the agonizing pain he is in. There are many types of migraines, but some of the most common side effects of moderate-to-severe migraines, besides being in constant, seemingly never-ending pain, include sensitivity to light, noise, or odors, fatigue but trouble falling or staying asleep, dizziness, sensations of being very warm or cold, blurred vision, and even nausea or vomiting. No one should have to live with frequent, debilitating migraines, but as many as 28 million Americans today do. While research suggests that the severity of migraines decrease with age, there are a number of drugs on the market that have become the saving grace for those whose migraines are preventing them from living the life they want and deserve to live. One of those drugs is Fioricet.

Fioricet is a combination of 50 mg of butalbital, 325 mg of acetaminophen, 40 mg of caffeine, and 30 mg of codeine. When combined, these chemicals effectively treat tension and muscle contraction headaches, as well as most types of migraines. Unlike a whole host of medications, Fioricet is not taken on a regular schedule, so you will not be putting unnecessary chemicals into your system “just in case” or when you don’t need them. Instead, you take Fioricet when you start to feel a headache coming on, and when you take it, it quickly gets to work fighting the pain induced by headaches and migraines away. Another added plus of Fioricet is that the ingredients that this drug is made up of are not present in high enough quantities to be habit-forming.

Unfortunately, the internet has become a spam-filled breeding ground of dangerous web links for buying pharmaceuticals online. Luckily, there is an information portal and database of safe places to buy Fioricet online, which is a valid option for headache and migraine-sufferers considering Fioricet does not require a prescription. This website has made it incredibly simple to locate an online retailer that you can trust as being a secure website that is professional and highly skilled at what they do and the services they provide.

Like just about every other medication on the market today, especially medications in the pain relief family, there are some risks associated with taking Fioricet to relieve pain caused by headaches and migraines. Fortunately, most side effects and risks are relatively mild, unless of course, you disregard the precautionary information that is included with it, or purposely misuse or overuse this medication. It is crucial that you remember to only take the recommended dosage and to only use Fioricet when you truly need it; otherwise, your body could potentially build up a tolerance, ruining the effectiveness of taking this medication to relieve your pain.

The benefits of Fioricet are many, if you use it as it is intended and recommended to be taken, and now you know where to go to purchase it online if you or another adult in your family are a headache or migraine-sufferer.

This is a Luna Moth, and before I saw this one hanging out on the screen of my back porch basking under the porch lights, I had never seen or even heard of this particular type of moth before.

My fiance saw it first, and after seeing his surprised and genuinely freaked out reaction to “the thing the size of a bird hanging on the back door,” he practically had to plead with me to get me to go look at it. When I finally did, my reaction was pretty much the same: surprised and genuinely freaked out, and because I’m a talker, especially when nervous or confused, incessant ramblings consisting of some form of the same question: “What the hell is that?” If it wasn’t for the fiance’s friend/drummer in his band being here when we found this, we probably still wouldn’t know what it was.

So yeah, a Luna Moth, a brand new bug that I was just recently introduced to, and I swear, it better be the only weird type of bug that I find around here this summer.

I don’t know about you, but I could really use a vacation; just going somewhere that is exciting and beautiful where I have zero responsibilities other than focusing on myself for a few days. No email to check, no laundry, dusting, or vacuuming, and no more family crises, of which there have recently been a few that have my nerves tangled up in knots. A vacation of zero responsibility where no one really expects anything at all from you sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? But does it really have to be?

Summer is rapidly approaching, and if life has exhausted you with all of its twists and turns, and its amazing ability to pick up the pace and suddenly leave you in the dust several miles back, maybe it’s time for you to plan a holiday. Sometimes a luxurious getaway is just what your mental health needs to give your mind and body a total refresh so you can feel more confident and able to take on everything in your day.

I was recently introduced to The BodyHoliday in St Lucia, which looks like the absolute perfect vacation spot for, well, just about any reason you can come up with. They claim that by giving them your body for a week, they will give you back your mind. A quick look over the specifics of their resort, the list of activities they offer, and the treatments available in the wellness center, which has been voted the Top Spa in the Caribbean by Spa Finder’s annual Reader Choice award two years in a row, is more than enough for anyone to believe them and the wonders they can work.

Whether you’re looking to plan an intimate vacation for you and your partner this summer, or have a monumental anniversary or event coming up that you want to celebrate in luxury, the BodyHoliday will arrange an inviting atmosphere for you along with an agenda that keeps you as busy or as relaxed and quiet as you would like. The activities at the BodyHoliday in St Lucia include fitness classes and personal training, golf, scuba, tennis, archery, and more, and there are both personal programs created around specific area of need and six full specialized treatment courses designed around key therapies and practices available at their wellness center. When it’s time for a meal, you have your choice of five different restaurants, all with astoundingly positive reviews, including TAO, one of the finest restaurants in the Caribbean with unique culinary fusion of East and West.

After reading about their resort and the amenities it includes, I noticed that the BodyHoliday also has wedding and honeymoon arrangements available. I won’t lie, I totally got excited about the prospect of my fiance and I honeymooning in St Lucia at this amazing resort. With extra touches including helicopter rides from the airport, champagne on arrival, and a candlelit dinner on the beach, this is one resort that truly knows how to set up a romantic scene for a couple to create life-long memories together.

So far this month, I have shared pictures of my workspace, which consists of my laptop, mouse, headphones, and a mug of coffee, as well as my Nook. I think we have already sufficiently covered the topic of technology. Damn you, Photo a Day May prompt! So with nothing else to turn to, here is a picture of my laptop’s keyboard.

This picture came out a lot better than I thought it was going to. I like how the keys blur out and look as if they go on for miles, and there isn’t a whole lot of cat hair or dust trapped between the keys. Today’s picture is a surprising success!

In middle school and high school when your complexion began taking on a life of its own and you were battling constantly with frequent breakouts you couldn’t get rid of, I was the annoying peer you had with the clear complexion. In seventh grade I went through a period of a few months when pimples broke out on my chin and they refused to go away, but when they eventually did, they didn’t return. That is, until I was well into adulthood. In adolescence and throughout my teen years, I thought I was lucky in the respect that I didn’t have to worry about blemishes. I was already a huge nerd throughout those years and was picked on frequently, so I really didn’t need that added stress anyway, but my seemingly good fortune did eventually run out. As an adult, I am now frequently faced with breakouts, I have a few areas around my mouth and chin that have scarred from acne, red spots, and I have dark circles under my eyes that refuse to go away regardless of the amount of sleep I get or how hydrated I am.

Finding a concealer that is light, easy to apply, doesn’t further irritate my skin, and looks good is no easy feat, and I have tried several different skin-concealing products by multiple brands to no avail. When I saw the Sheer Cover Duo Concealer in the Spring Beauty VoxBox I was lucky enough to receive from Influenster, I figured that it would be yet another product I would end up using once or twice only to be disappointed by it. However, it took just one use to turn me into a believer in Sheer Cover. In fact, moments after applying it that first morning, I couldn’t help but to take to Twitter with my excitement.

That was five days ago, and since then, I have used it every single day and still love it just as much as I did the first time I saw it magically covering up the puffy, dark circles under my eyes and giving my skin one consistent tone with no hint of my usual red spots.

As I mentioned I was going to do in my tweet, I did take before and after photos when I used the Sheer Cover Duo Concealer. I was surprised myself at just how drastic the difference is and how many of my facial flaws disappear when using this product. Applying it myself in the mirror is one thing, but seeing the difference in photos is quite a different experience.

The Sheer Cover Duo Concealer is creamy in texture and it moisturizes your skin with Jojoba, which helps nourish and restore the natural moisture balance in your skin, and Allantoin, which calms and soothes sensitive and irritated skin. It is extremely easy to apply with either your fingertips, a concealer brush, or cosmetic sponge. For best coverage, start with the lighter tone of the duo and blend the two tones together, adding layers to increase coverage where you need it.

You can wear Sheer Cover alone, but I think it looks a little weird all by itself without any other makeup on. Even in the sequence of before and after photos, I included one of my face after Sheer Cover with eyeliner and mascara on, just to give you an idea of what it should look like with your daily cosmetic basics. When you do apply makeup after the concealer, be sure to let it dry (it’s a creamy texture and a little oily until you blend it completely) before putting makeup on top of it.

I am so impressed with the Sheer Cover Duo Concealer, and absolutely love the results I got with it. Whether you deal with blemishes, dark spots, hyperpigmentation, or uneven skin tone, this concealer can take care of all of it, while also providing antioxidant protection from free-radical scavengers. Sheer Cover is also dermatologist-tested.

You can purchase the Sheer Cover Duo Concealer on the Sheer Cover website or call 1-877-489-2035. It retails for $29.95 alone, or you can purchase the introductory system which also included this concealer for the same price.

This is a guest post by Best Colleges Online, an online college resource guiding you toward challenging, satisfying academic programs that will propel your career into the future.

One out of every five college women will be the victims of rape or attempted rape. Thousands more are robbed or otherwise assaulted. Avoiding becoming a statistic means taking control of your own safety. There are many things you can do to protect yourself should the need arise, but they need to be ingrained in your mind so that you can make use of them when you are in shock or are otherwise incapacitated. Here are 15 tips that will help ensure your college experience is memorable for the right reasons.

Assess the Risk

A big part of protecting yourself is gauging potential threats before they become actual threats. Do you know the people you’re going to be hanging out with? Do you know where you are and where this party is that you’re going to? Is your cell phone charged? Are you wearing a lot of jewelry? Asking yourself questions like these can prevent the need for physical self-defense.

Trust Your Instincts

Whether it’s intuition or some kind of evolutionary self-defense mechanism, humans, especially women, frequent have a sixth sense that warns us of danger. Rape and assault victims often describe having felt a feeling of foreboding or that “something wasn’t quite right” just before their attacks. One of your best defenses is that voice in your head that says you should cross to the other side of the street or go a different way. Don’t ignore it.

Taking Resistant Action Can Significantly Reduce Your Risk

Stalling or screaming has been shown to increase the risk you will be injured in an attempted rape. But direct action, like warning the attacker, fighting back, and running away can lower the risk of a rape being completed by as much as 80%.

Alcohol Lowers Your Defenses

Although date rape drugs and “roofies” get more attention and much has been made of women pouring their own drinks, rape as a result of incapacitation due to alcohol is about 18 times more prevalent than incapacitation due to being drugged. In other words, the real danger is not in someone spiking your drink, but in having too much of that drink.

Groin Grab

Every woman’s self-defense class teaches this move. If an attacker is close to you, in front or behind, grabbing his testicles with all your strength is a simple and effective move to employ. If the attacker is wearing tight jeans, knee or punch him in the groin instead. Slapping him just before attacking the groin is a good way to keep him from blocking the move. And be ready to run as soon as you complete the move, while he is recovering.

Eye Gouge

The Three Stooges-style eye poke is easily dodged by the attacker because he can see it coming well before it arrives. But if you are able to place your hands on the side of his face and then slide your thumbs over his eyes, he won’t have time to defend it. This can be an extremely damaging to deadly move depending on how hard you press.

Give Them the Elbow

A great way to escape when having your hair pulled from behind is to turn slightly and thrust your elbow into the attacker’s face. The elbow is a very tough bone and can do serious damage. Follow it up with a kick to the groin or by smashing his foot with your foot as hard as you can, then run.

Everyday Items Can Double as Weapons

If you’re a coffee drinker, that steaming liquid in your hand becomes a powerful weapon when you pop the top off and throw it at an attacker. Ballpoint pens, keys, nail files, combs, paper clips, and hair spray can all buy you precious seconds in which to escape if you use them as weapons.

There’s No Fighting with an Attacker with a Knife

Don’t buy into martial arts videos that teach you karate moves for escaping from a knife-wielding attacker; 95% of those techniques fail. Your best defense is to throw your purse at the attacker or hit him with it, screaming loudly, and run. Don’t stop screaming, and be aware of your surroundings. Look for a crowded place to run to. If you have to physically block a knife attack, keep your arms low to block his arm. Loose clothing like sweaters can be used to entangle the knife.

Be Vigilant at ATMs

Robberies at ATMs are a huge area of crime, and college campus ATMs often have less security than a bank would offer. Don’t go at night unless you go with a friend. If you see someone suspicious lurking near an ATM, don’t use it. Knowing exactly what transactions you want to make before using an ATM reduces the time you are vulnerably facing the machine.

Have Situational Awareness

Predators look for people who are distracted or look like they don’t know where they are going. This means walking around talking on a cell phone is inadvisable. You need your focus unhindered to effectively take in your surroundings. If you park somewhere, memorize where your car is so you can walk straight to it. Also, don’t walk around with headphones blaring in your ears.

Know Where the Call Boxes Are

All campuses now have (or should have) call boxes placed around campuses for use in an emergency. All you should have to do is run up to it and push the button to be connected with campus police. Memorize where these are and don’t count on having your cell phone with you. It may be taken or dropped in a struggle.

Break His Nose

With the right technique, even a child can break a person’s nose. If your attacker’s in front of you, throw your weight into a jab with the base of your palm up under his nose. For an attacker from behind, use the elbow. A bloodied nose can disorient him and make it difficult for him to breathe.

Practice with Pepper Spray

It’s quite possible you won’t have the time or an opportunity to reach for the pepper spray in your purse. However, if you get the chance, you need to be skilled in its operation so that you don’t accidentally spray yourself. Practicing reaching for and shooting the spray helps you learn how to do it quickly and also what to expect in terms of range when you pull the trigger.

Don’t Lower Your Guard

There’s a difference between being trusting and being naive. An estimated 90% of college women who are sexually assaulted knew their attacker. Be prepared to defend yourself at all times, not just when you are with strangers.

When several buds had begun blooming late last week, I snapped a few photos of them and they came out so good that I’m using one of them as my desktop background right now. Seriously, I can’t get over the vibrant color and how beautiful these flowers are. To boot, this plant attracts hummingbirds that frequently stop by for a snack which has been really awesome to see. Nature is good.

Last week I mentioned in a short post that I got engaged in mid-April. After telling both of our immediate families the night of and the day after it happened, my fiance and I took the news online on Facebook only since both of our personal accounts are pretty much locked down and you have to be friends with us to see anything going on there. I didn’t blog about it, other than those few sentences last week, and I have been reluctant to announce the news on any of my personal social media accounts. It isn’t because I’m not happy or excited, it’s because I very much am both of those things. I am extremely happy about it obviously, otherwise I would have said no and I wouldn’t be engaged, but I guess I didn’t want anything to ruin it or attempt to spoil my excitement, so for the most part, I kept the announcement to a controllable minimum. The blogging world is an open forum of public opinion and I wasn’t ready for people to start forming opinions about something as positive and personal in my life as getting married.

I never really had much public blogging drama here on Woman Tribune, which has been appreciated I assure you, but I know that when I publish something under my name here, it follows me. Before I started putting all of my time and attention into this website, I wrote daily on my personal blog, which predominantly deals with progressive liberal feminist issues. I am a great, big, card-carrying feminist and a lot of my audience, online friends, and people who still follow me and what I’m up to on Twitter and other sites are other great, big, card-carrying feminists. When the topic of marriage is put on the table, there is a lot of support, but you also get a lot of people with question marks spewing out of their mouths. I didn’t want to have to answer questions as to why I am choosing to get married to my partner of six and a half years, or how I’m going to get married, what my plans are, what kind of dress I’m going to wear and if it’s going to be white, what I’m going to do with my last name, and so on. I was reluctant to open myself and my personal life up to this specific topic until I was absolutely ready, and now I am ready.

So hey guys, I’m engaged, and we are very happy about it!

Believe it or not, this whole post started out purely as me wanting to share the story of my marriage proposal, but I went off on a bit of a tangent first. So, moving on…

Life is not made up of grand gestures, and my fiance and I have never really been ones for needing something spectacular for it to be meaningful to us. We both have a deep appreciation for the little things in life, and everyday days that contain intimate moments that make us smile whenever we think about them and that we’ll remember throughout our lives. The way we got engaged reflects that perfectly.

In the early evening of April 12th, I was in bed half asleep. I am known to have an odd, off the wall sleeping schedule, so it was pretty much my early morning, and it was one of those times where you can hear life going on around you–cats jumping up onto the bed and back off, my now-fiance was walking through the room–and you just continue to lay there, refusing to give into the whims of others who want you to wake up. So, I’m laying in bed in all of my defiant ‘I am not waking up and you can’t make me’ glory, and suddenly I am being talked to and asked question after question. This is a surefire way to wake me up, but when I do get up, I am going to be in a bad mood. I cannot stand being half-asleep and being asked questions, it’s a pet peeve of mine. Questions make you feel compelled to answer; as if life will indeed stop turning because you didn’t answer someone’s question, and maybe they really needed to know where something was and now they’re just wandering around the house, unable to find the item that they were looking for, which means they are probably making a mess of things that you will find yourself cleaning up and it’s all your fault and you brought that mess you’re going to resent cleaning up all on yourself. That is what being asked questions while I am trying to sleep does to me.

After I don’t know how many questions, he asks me if I want to get married, all nonchalantly and in the same tone of voice he asked all of his previous questions, and because I am a wildly sarcastic human being, I say, “Sure, let’s go,” and proceed to close my eyes again. This is it for him. The seriousness factor of his question registered at about a 1 of 100 for me, and I was going back to sleep, but he was having none of it. He then starts talking about what a nice day it is outside and that I should look out the window. Then the Summoning My Eyes to the Window Event begins. “It’s a beautiful day, look! Look out the window! Look at how nice it is! Will you just look!?” So I look, and on the window sill right next to my side of the bed is a cup of coffee and an opened jewelry box with a piece of paper at the back of the box that he wrote “Good morning, marry me” on, and sitting in the box is a gorgeous engagement ring.

I don’t know how long I laid there staring at what he had set up. I do know that I had tunnel vision for a little while. All I could see was this box and the note and the ring and I don’t know how long it took for me to reach up and get the box, but when I did, I started laughing, I guess because I had no idea what else to do and my brain doesn’t handle <s>surprises</s> complete and utter shock well. So I laughed, until he said, “You know, people usually give an answer.” After saying yes, I put the ring on my finger, took a drink of my coffee (because hello, morning breath) and kissed him.

He was right, it was a beautiful day.

The seven deadly sins are lust, gluttony, pride, sloth, vanity, greed, and envy, and as we all learned in explicit detail in the movie Se7en, possessing even one of these qualities can lead to some terrible outcomes. But even if you’re not being hunted down by a serial killer because of your reveling in one of these sins, they still aren’t very positive to possess and look good on no one.

The following infographic goes through each of the seven deadly sins and gives a simple explanation of what it means to possess one of these qualities, and then a brain hack for identifying the trait in your brain and then exploiting or hijacking the thought process in order to eventually change that habit and start looking at the world and at your life in a more positive light, which will ultimately lead to gaining more personal fulfillment.

This was taken while standing in my dining room, just as soon as you walk into the back door. The area rug desperately needs to be vacuumed, even though as soon as it is, it will just look like this all over again an hour later since it is the frequent sleeping space of my two cats who, I swear, have to shed an additional small cat a day each.

This is Vincent, who was snoozing on my slipper until I went and stood by him and he immediately woke up. Also, yes, those are yellow shoes on my feet while wearing green pants. It’s a good thing I didn’t grace the outside public with my mismatched presence today, but these shoes are seriously one of the most comfortable pairs of sneakers I own. They are Old Navy Laceless Pop Kicks, and I got them right before Easter when they were on sale for $10 and they had a ton of different colors. Now, they’re $16.50 and come in three colors, so they probably won’t be around for too much longer before they just get taken off the site. I should have picked up more pairs of them.

I was first introduced to the Soy Spacasso brand of body and beauty products in the summer of 2009, and soon after I had the opportunity to review their foaming body scrub and body whip, which I absolutely, utterly adored. Since then, I have kept up with Soy Spacasso, always interested in what new products were being added to the line and what new scents were being developed for the already existing products, and I have found myself lucky enough to call the woman behind Soy Spacasso, Maria Murphy, a friend. She is not only great at what she does, but she is also a genuinely thoughtful and kind woman. This is the kind of business, a woman doing what she loves to so and making a living off of it, is what I love to see and feel an ethical obligation to support.

I am a reformed nail-biter and have developed an interest bordering on unhealthy obsession with nail polishes and products, so when I was asked if I would be interested in reviewing one of Soy Spcasso’s most recently added products, Organic Soy Based Nail Lacquer, I most certainly jumped at the chance.

Soy Spacasso currently has 17 different shades of nail lacquer. I chose Sexy Black Onyx, a straightforward, pitch black color with just a hint of shine. I was also sent the Soy Spacasso base and top coat to use with it. All Soy Spacasso nail lacquers are created 3-Free, meaning they do not contain the Toxic Trio of chemicals: Toluene, Formaldehyde and dibutyl phthalate. There is absolutely no animal testing with any of their products, and instead of the commonly-used metal ball bearing as the mixing ball in most nail polishes, Soy Spacasso uses a natural stone from the earth in each of their 7.5 ml bottles.

When I first saw these bottles, I thought they were small. Extremely small; maybe even too small. 7.5 ml is not enough to even constitute a small bottle, but my Sexy Black Onyx has lasted well over the course of the past few months and has been used more than a handful of times. It doesn’t take a lot to get the job done with this nail color.

Unfortunately, the batch of lacquer my bottle was from had some issues with being thick and chunky, which made applying the lacquer difficult, messy, and not worth the effort. Before I even had time to email about this, however, I received a message from Maria Murphy explaining the issue and how to fix it. Hello, incredible customer service! By adding just a few drops of nail polish remover to my bottle, the consistently thinned out and I was then able to apply it as I normally would to my nails.

The product description of Soy Spacasso’s Organic Soy Based Nail Lacquer claims that the formula “provides a very durable, long-lasting, chip resistant” finish, and I don’t know if it was because of the issues with the batch I received, but that wasn’t my experience with it in the least. On my fingernails, the Sexy Black Onyx color lasts on average about three days, and up to five days at most before it starts to chip off, but instead of just gradually flaking away, the lacquer itself peels off of my fingernail, taking the majority of the color on my nail right off. This is bizarre and something I have never had happen before with other nail color. When used on my toenails, the lacquer lasted drastically longer, probably because compared to fingers, toes are lazy and just hang around looking pretty and colorful and that’s about it. A pedicure with Sexy Black Onyx lasted a little over a week with minor chips here and there before most of the color had either chipped or peeled off.

While I didn’t have a totally positive experience with Soy Spacasso’s Organic Soy Based Nail Lacquer, it’s important to keep in mind that this stuff is made by the woman who sells it. No mass production is happening behind the scenes and there are bound to be inconsistencies within products when they are created by hand. It happens. Keeping this in mind has actually made me curious about the batches of nail lacquer that have come after the batch that I received, especially because the Soy Spacasso Base and Top Coat is awesome and works wonderfully; in fact, it has been my go-to top coat and it dries completely in less than a minute.

Soy Spacasso’s Organic Soy Based Nail Lacquer sells for $6.50 each, 2 for $10, or 3 for $12 and are available on the Soy Spacasso website.

I received Soy Spacasso Organic Soy Based Nail Lacquer for review. No other compensation was received, and opinions are my own.

Annual spring cleaning is a time of rejuvenation and infusing new life into your home after the cold and seemingly endless winter months. Your home can start to feel incredibly dreary and stale after being cooped up for so long in the same old surroundings, and spring cleaning is the perfect time to not just dust and deep clean your home, but to also dress the beds in fresh new linens and even change up the decor in some of the most-used rooms in your home. Doing this is a surefire way to liven up your home once again and make it a space you can’t wait to relax in. Another area that you can freshen up this spring cleaning season (and beyond) is your bathroom routine, which is made easy with Cottonelle.

The Cottonelle Clean Care Routine is a two-step bathroom routine: Cottonelle toilet paper (available in Cottonelle Ultra Comfort Care, Cottonelle Gentle Care, and Cottonelle Clean Care) and Cottonelle flushable wipes (available in Cottonelle Fresh Care and Cottonelle Gentle Care enriched with aloe and vitamin E.) Use them together and you are left feeling fresh and clean, even if you’ve just spent hours getting rid of all the built-up dust and grime in the deep, dark corners of your home or weeding your entire garden.

Because personal care and bathroom routines are not always appropriate conversation topics, Cottonelle has put out the challenge for Cottonelle toilet paper and flushable wipes users to Try It & Name It because after all, a routine that leaves you feeling so fresh and clean really deserves a name. I think this challenge will also help make this entire conversation topic a whole lot more fun and maybe it can become more approachable and a little less, “hey now, that’s some private information you should keep to yourself.”

To name it, visit the Cottonelle Facebook page and use the name generator in three fun ways:

The Randomizer: Simply click to get a name instantly

The Personalizer: Answer a few questions for a personalized name

The Customizer: Create a name to add to the Cottonelle Book of Names

The name generator gets really hilarious. For instance, I used the Personalizer to name my bathroom routine and got Holly’s Bright Invigorated. Yeah.

When you create a name using the Customizer any time between June 12, 2012 and February 28, 2013, you can enter for a chance to win a year’s supply of Cottonelle products. Winners will be selected in a random drawing on a weekly basis with a limit of one prize per person. Be sure to visit the Cottonelle Facebook page every Two-Step Tuesday where you can vote for your favorite name in a weekly poll and the names with the most votes will be added to the Fan Favorite Gallery. You can also win exclusive #NameIt prizes by following Cottonelle on Twitter. Pretty sweet deal, right?

When checking off the spring cleaning tasks you’ve completed, also keep your bathroom routine in mind. Tell us in the comments how you’re freshening up your home this spring and then try the Cottonelle Clean Care Routine and name it for yourself.

I was compensated for this post. The opinions and ideas expressed here are my own.

Shoes! Sure, I could probably live without shoes, but why would I ever want to do that? So we are going to go at this prompt from the angle of something I would really rather not live without. Better? This image shows just a small assortment of the shoes I own, and I have quite a few pairs and an issue with getting rid of old shoes. In fact, I haven’t stopped wearing or gotten rid of a pair of shoes since early middle school. This shoe organizer goes completely around in a circle, I also have a few other pairs on the floor of my closet, and a few more in the dining room in front of the back door where I took them off. I love shoes, a lot. There are so many different types and color combinations and they are really a lot of fun. I think I take more fashion risks in my shoes than I ever have in my clothing; example a: hot pink and lime green KangaROOS.

Pinterest has, seemingly overnight, become the hottest new social media website. I have been an avid pinner for the past several months and I absolutely love it. I can, and have on many occasions, spent several hours on Pinterest, and whenever I introduce the website to someone, I always warn them of its amazing ability to lure you in and keep you entertained until you realize that there was something you were supposed to be doing. It’s hard to believe that Pinterest was initially launched in 2010, only because it is just now becoming so popular, but it just goes to show you that in the internet world. it may take years for what you are doing to catch on, but it could very well have the ability to catch on in a big, big way.

Naturally, like just about every other popular activity and subject that urges people to need to know each and every possible thing there is to know about it, Pinterest now has its own For Dummies book. It’s official, guys, Pinterest has arrived, and the time to hop on that bandwagon is now.

Pinterest For Dummies was written by an innovative and just plain awesome woman who is part of a group of people who have the potential to benefit greatly from the magic that is Pinterest: bloggers. Kelby Carr is the founder and CEO of Type-A-Parent, a popular social network and blog, and the Type-A-Parent Conference, which I annually hear tons of terrific things about. Her penning this how-to book makes absolute perfect sense.

I thought I had Pinterest pretty much figured out, and to my credit, I do know what I’m doing when it comes to working the website properly. I can pin images, repin images, I know about the comment capability that almost no one uses, and I know that the like button exists, which I have come to realize through my usage of the website, is used by people who are too embarrassed or lazy to repin an image but still want to make sure people know that they were there. It was while reading this book, however, that I realized I could use a few pointers when it comes to using Pinterest in order to self-promote my own projects and really make an influential difference ind doing so. Turns out I didn’t know everything. Imagine that.

Pinterest For Dummies has the answer to any Pinterest-related questions or concerns you may have. From how to set up an account and start pinning to the many devices you can access and use Pinterest on and controlling your privacy settings, it is all covered. In addition to the whole self-promotion aspect of Pinterest, I was also very interested in getting tips on using Pinterest as an organization tool, effective mood board, and event planning tool. My life has recently changed in some very drastic ways. My partner of six and half years became my fiance in mid-April and in the beginning of February we bought our own home. I am now in the middle of creating a warm and inviting home that signifies who we are and starting the very beginning stages of wedding planning simultaneously! Lo and behold, I not only found out the easiest way to organize the many things Pinterest can inspire, but I also learned how to make a board a collaborative project and read about how it can also be used as a shopping list, a bookmarking site, and even using it to support a cause. There’s a whole lot of valuable information in this book.

The last two chapters of Pinterest For Dummies are also great resources. Chapter 11 lists 10 companies that are using Pinterest effectively, including Etsy, Lowe’s Whole Foods, and Better Homes and Gardens. Chapter 12 lists 10 power pinners that if you have a Pinterest account, you should be following. I was pleased to find out that I already follow the majority of the people who were listed and I definitely agree with the recommendations. The 10 people listed in this book have already been inspiring me on Pinterest exponentially throughout the past several months that I have been using the website.

Giveaway

If you just started using Pinterest and want information on how to make the most of it, if you don’t yet have an account but are thinking about joining the countless people already using the site, or even if you believe yourself to be an expert Pinterest user, I am confident in saying that you can benefit from reading Pinterest For Dummies. So how would you like to win a copy of the book for yourself? To enter, use the Rafflecopter form below.

We had our first pool day today! I think we may have opened it a little too early, since it still gets down into the high 40′s to low 50′s at night and we still have three blankets on our bed, but we have had several days of hot and humid weather this past week, and next week’s temperatures are being said to get well into the 80′s. When you live in Pennsylvania, the mention of 80-degree weather doesn’t go over too well and the air conditioners coming out of storage is always a reasonable course of action.

Before today, I had only been swimming once in the past 10 years. This is due to a series of different factors; I have long lived with anxiety and depression issues, I don’t do public places with large crowds of people, especially if those people have any reason to scream or make sudden or abrupt noises, I definitely don’t do public pools, and I especially don’t do bathing suits at public pools. In fact, I still don’t own a bathing suit, and I totally went swimming today in a pair of women’s swim trunks that I found last year at Target and a tank top with a sports bra underneath. The fact that our house has a pool in the backyard has been difficult to wrap my head around, and even dropping over $100 on pool chemicals didn’t seem to make it real to me; not until I was actually in the pool with a huge smile on my face did I really grasp that my life and all of the changes that have occurred this year alone–buying a house, getting engaged–is different now, and it is the best kind of different.

When I was a kid, I loved to swim; you couldn’t get me out of the pool until I had completely exhausted myself and was ready to sleep. Today, that same feeling came flooding back to me, and I can say with absolute certainty that our pool is definitely going to rank as one of my favorite places to be this summer.

This picture, by the way, is of my fiance and his daughters having a blast.

I am not a big maker of things. I’m not very crafty and I don’t possess much natural artistic ability, so the list of things I have actually made is quite short. I have made quite a few websites (design/graphics/coding), including this one, but posting a screenshot of this website just seemed like it would be a total copout. So here is a picture of flower bulbs I planted a few weeks ago in what just may be the coolest planter ever, which I picked up at Walmart on a whim for about $20. The flowers, a type of lily I can’t recall the name of at the moment, have grown quite a bit in the past weeks and I really can’t wait to see what they look like when they bloom completely.

Expecting a baby can easily bring on a wide range of emotions, including the obvious…happiness. But let’s be honest for a minute, it can also bring on some anxiety because it will most definitely change your life, but I think I can speak for the majority of parents here in saying the change is well worth it. However, new parents-to-be might also feel a little anxious about finances, because kids do come with a price tag that seems to grow as they do. Not to scare you or anything, but it is reality. If you are a little apprehensive about finances right now, or simply prefer to put more money into their college fund (never too early to start), the tips I am about to share will help ease your mind.

A nursery doesn’t have to cost a million dollars to look and feel like it. Read on to learn how to create a safe, functional, and beautiful nursery for your future bundle of joy.

Skimp on Cost Not Safety

While it’s a great idea to save money on big ticket items, it’s obviously nobody’s intent to forgo safety when it comes to our little ones. The best advice I think I can give you would be to first look at safety guidelines for baby furniture before you even shop for style and design. You can do this by searching online.

Once you know what to look for, such as slats in the crib to be no further apart than 2 3/8 inches, then you can consider the appearance of the pieces. Check out clearance centers at your local stores and online for deals. A great piece of nursery furniture can be safe for your child, look great, and yet not cost a fortune.

You can save money on pieces that you won’t be placing the baby in or on, such as the dresser or armoire. However, make it safe by using wall anchors; these will attach the piece to the wall so it won’t topple over onto the child when they are pulling themselves up on everything.

Secondhand as an Option

You might want to consider buying secondhand furniture. If someone has furniture they want to give you, even on a loan, take advantage of it. If you don’t have to give the furniture back, you can do some wonderful things with secondhand pieces. I will talk about that in a bit. Take a look at the newspaper ads, Craigslist, eBay, and even garage sales. In fact, just as anything else, sometimes the other the piece is, the more valuable it is, even when it comes to safety.

Decorating on a Dime

Perhaps the most fun of creating a nursery is adding the personality, or decorating with color and character. You will want to decide if you want to go with a theme and full-blown decor such as a princess theme with Disney princess wall murals, or transportation theme with planes, trains, and automobiles, or something more sedate like a simple color theme.

Whatever you decide, you can cut costs with the following tips:

Framed photos. You can buy inexpensive frames and fill them with low or no-cost photos you can get online at royalty free image sites. You could also take your own photos or draw something to frame. Wall art does not have to cost a fortune. We had brightly colored walls in yellow, so I found some great black and white photos of babies and toddlers. The contrast was fun and it was inexpensive and easy.

Paint used furniture. Take a piece of used furniture, clean it up, and paint it a fun and bright color. By painting the dresser a colorful hue, it will become a piece of art. Or, leave the natural wood as the base and paint each drawer a different color.

Throw rugs. Use inexpensive and colorful throw rugs, rather than replacing old flooring. Just one or two can add a lot of character to a room.

Stenciling. If you want more pizazz in the room than paint has to offer, try some stenciling. You could stencil characters or a nice quote such as a familar and great one from Dr. Seuss, “A person’s a person, no matter how small.”

Removable decals. Decals that can be easily removed can add a great deal of color and fun to any wall. If you take care of them and remove them carefully, they can be reused or sold in a garage sale.

I just loved adding all the punches of color and personality, and I did it for a lot less than I had budgeted in the first place. One small thing that I did was to change out the plain knobs on the dresser and armoire to colorful ducks, to go with the duck theme we had. It seems minor, but it adds some fun to the room without a lot of cost.

The best thing you can do is to take your time and do some research. I know it’s tempting to do it all right away, but you have time. A little research and shopping can lead to a beautiful and safe place for your baby to lay their head.

This is a guest post by Kathy Barber, who drew inspiration for a series of articles on kid’s rooms from researching Disney Cars wall mural and art for her son’s room. Living in Michigan with her husband and son, she enjoys traveling, photography, cooking, and anything to do with mystery.

I have tried to like soy products, and I have had some success in the past with soy, albeit those successes have been very few and far between. However, I cannot help but to be indifferent when it comes to SOYJOY. I received this all-natural, gluten-free bar of fruit and soybeans in my Influenster Spring Beauty VoxBox, and while I have no idea why they included a food item in a box full of beauty products, I opened up this strawberry-flavored bar this afternoon for a quick snack in between work tasks.

SOYJOY has been around for a while, but this was the very first time I tried it, and I really wasn’t impressed. The texture of the bar was thick and it was dry; its only saving grace is that it’s a small product and didn’t last long enough to completely dry out my mouth. The taste was tolerable, and that is as far as I can go with it. I was completely put off by it at first bite, it was just drastically different from most of the things I eat, but it got a bit better as I progressively urged myself to keep going. Overall, not one of my reactions to this product or my perspective on it after the fact are what you want to experience with anything you’re eating. While it’s true that SOYJOY bars are a healthier snack option than some other products just as quick and travel-ready that ward off hunger between meals, there are still a lot of other things that you can opt to eat that will elicit a lot more than merely a tolerable response from you.

So that was my snacking experience today, and all I can say is at least the picture I took of this product is pretty.

As I mentioned, the strawberry SOYJOY bar was included in my Influenster Spring Beauty VoxBox, which I also wanted to quickly share with you all. Quickly because I haven’t had time to try out all of the products yet, but I will be reviewing each one individually here in the next week, so you can look forward to that!

This is the first VoxBox I have received from Influenster, which I immediately signed up with after seeing a picture of a past box that Jenn shared on Flickr. While taking the trend of sending out a box of surprise goodies for people to try out, Influenster is all about reporting back your experiences with the products you were sent and sharing those experiences and products with your friends, blog readers, connections on social media sites, and so on. Best of all, Influenster is totally free–those who are most active in the Influenster community receive a box that fits their lifestyle (as determined by badges that you receive by taking surveys and telling them a little about yourself.) Pretty awesome, right?

So here is what came in my Spring Beauty VoxBox:

Feathers are a huge trend right now, and they are showing no signs of going anywhere anytime soon. Feathers have made several recent appearances on catwalks and red carpets, and peacock feathers especially have become a popular wedding theme. After hair feathers became a standout accessory all on their own, they have now been incorporated into just about every accessory imaginable to create fabulous and sometimes daring statement pieces.

I was recently sent a selection of feather accessories from KissPat Feather Store, all of which are really cute and just a lot of fun to accessorize with. I am really excited about them and am glad to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on these products with you all.

I’m going to start with my absolute favorite product, which is the item that immediately caught my attention when I was first looking through the KissPat Feather Store website when the prospect of working with them was first presented to me, and that is the headband.

While they have a wide variety of different types of feather headbands, the one I received is supremely awesome. It is made up of an assortment of predominantly yellow and brown feathers with just a touch of dark blue feathers, and of course, the truly fantastic black and white polka dot feathers, which I am a big fan of! It also features a topaz pear-shaped gem that sits on the end of the feathers, giving it a nice finishing touch without taking anything away from the glory of the feathers, which obviously are meant to make quite a statement on their own. This headband can be worn with virtually anything; dress up, dress down, and let this headband shine as one of the few accessories you wear that day. I love it!

Generally, my taste in earrings is simple and subtle. I have a handful of silver hoops that my father has given me for Christmas throughout the past few years, and those are about all I wear. The feather earrings that KissPat surprised me with are something that I would have never chosen for myself, mostly because I have a hard time taking that initial risk when it comes to nearly anything, and not knowing if I could pull off feather earrings is enough to make me shy away from them all together. Therein lies the reason why surprises are awesome, because these earrings, while definitely not everyday wear, are great for infusing a whole lot of fun into a simple outfit. You can see the detail in them in the picture at the top of this post because unfortunately, I could not for the life of get me a picture with the front of the earrings facing outward while I wore them, which happens when you have earrings of this size that dangle–they take on a life of their own. Surprisingly, at least to me, these earrings are very comfortable; because feathers are practically weightless, so are these earrings, and you can wear them for several hours without feeling the least bit of pulling on your earlobes.

Because KissPat is a feather accessory store, a selection of their products wouldn’t be complete without trying out their hair feathers. Unlike another brand of hair feathers that I became familiar with last year, these are attached to small clips that make it extremely easy to attach to your hair. I was really happy that I didn’t have to re-teach myself how to get that tiny plastic o-ring to attach to just the right portion and thickness of hair. Because of the clip, these hair feathers can be removed in seconds at the end of the day, just as easily as they go in.

I received two different hair feathers; one that is short in length, perfect for my shoulder-length hair, and has really fun, bright pink, blue, and green colored feathers. The other is made up of three larger brown and white feathers that are hung from strips of brown suede. These feathers are much longer, so I clipped them in higher on my head so that they didn’t look funny sticking too far out from my hair. I think both of the feathers look pretty great and after wearing both of them on several different occasions, I was really happy with the fact that the clip did not come loose in my hair, fall out, or shift around; as soon as it was attached to my hair, it was there to stay until I took it out.

Giveaway

I am really thrilled with the accessories that I received from KissPat Feather Store. They are unique, fun, and most importantly, they are all of really great, handmade quality. I got this novel on a whim for my Nook, pictured above, after seeing it appear on Oprah’s Summer Reading List last year and reading some absolutely glowing reviews of it. It is a thrilling and intense read; I was actually surprised with how much I really enjoyed it because I didn’t expect it to be as good and as captivating as it is. Even though I obviously know how it ends, since I have already read it once before, I am enjoying it just as much the second time around, which is pretty impressive in itself.

Last month, on April 12th to be exact, my partner of six and a half years proposed to me. I will write out the whole proposal story soon, but for now, I can tell you that it was intimate, simple, and perfect. It was a milestone in our relationship and in our lives that was done in a way that truly exemplifies who both of us are at our core as people. My grandmother has, on several occasions, noted that it is fortunate that we have both found each other because she can’t think of anyone else who would have either of us. I think she’s right.

Every spring it seems as if everyone I communicate with retreats to their gardens and post plenty of pictures of the amazing things they have grown. Throughout the past few years, I have been remarkably jealous of these people growing their own vegetables and herbs because I had been living in an apartment with absolutely no outside space to call my own, and indoor container gardening was out because I have two cats who have completely destroyed whatever plants we had the audacity to bring inside. This year I stopped being jealous because I was finally able to start my own garden in the yard of our new house. (If you’re an apartment dweller right now reading this with a grimace on your face because you’ve been wanting to start a garden of our own and don’t have the space, I apologize.)

Anyway, while getting some seeds and starter plants for our garden a few weeks ago, I saw cat grass and catnip seeds and immediately got excited about the prospect of growing these treats for my cats and being able to have an inside plant without worrying about it being eaten by the time I woke up the next day because these plants are there specifically to be feasted on by cats. So here is the cat grass that I grew over the past few weeks. I can’t believe how tall it has gotten in such a small time frame. My older cat Devin, who is about six years old, absolutely loves it and munches on it several times a day; Vincent, however, doesn’t care for it much. I have feeling he will be more excited about the catnip, if it ever comes up.

Here’s a bonus picture of Devin and her cat grass.
