It began to grow dark after Hansel and Gretel ate the whole basket of strawberries they had picked in the woods that famous afternoon.  Soon the two became sleepy.  So as all good boys and girls do… the pair said their prayers and in doing so fourteen guardian angels swept down to protect them.

Little did they know the strawberries inside their tiny tummies were protecting them too.

Strawberries: White Trash Diva’s food tip of the week.

One cup of strawberries is packed with over 100 mg of vitamin C.   The magical C helps with the immune system, heals wounds, and is a great antioxidant which protects cells and their DNA from damage and mutation.

I know what you are thinking.  What good is all that against a powerful witch on a flying broom?  Well if you remember correctly Hansel was too thin for the witch to cook him.  Since there are only 53 calories in a cup of  strawberries eating half a basketful didn’t come close to plumping him up.  Being thin bought the pair more time to plot their escape.

But there is more…  Strawberries also add a bit of calcium, magnesium, folate and potassium. Magnesium provides the brain energy… and potassium and calcium are important in the thinking process as they facilitate the transmission of messages. Using her brain, Gretel tricked the witch into going in the oven first.

So the next time you consider eating a house made of cake for desert… remember Hansel and Gretel.  Then decide on the strawberries… they  could save you in more ways than one.

If you love tulips as much as I do you may be sad to learn that this warm-feeling inducing flower cannot be planted in the spring.  And If you are anything like me it’s “out of site out of mind.”  You don’t think of tulips till you see them starting to bloom in multicolor ecstasy as you drive past your neighbor’s yard… you know…. the neighbor who knows everything about horticulture.  The one who took the time to think ahead by planting tulip bulbs the previous fall.

So, here is a tulip tip… add a “tulip planting” event to your icalender… google calendar or whatever calendar you use to alert you.  Or subscribe to us and we will send out a reminder next fall. This way you will be reminded in October that you should prepare to plant your tulip bulbs.  Then let nature take it’s course.

Next spring when you start to feel a rejuvenation of love and passion your symbolic flowers will be right there with you sending you visual joy for almost a month.

Another option would be to go to whole foods or a local market and drop $15 on one tulip plant. But we at White Trash Diva have better ideas on how you should spend that money.

It’s spring Divas! The time to get jiggy with nature!  And who better to hop us down the nutrition trail than the Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny always has nice fur… has no problem finding a mate and can see a stray cat two blocks away.  What empowers her?  No! Not colored eggs!  Carrots!

Carrots!  White Trash Diva’s food tip-of the week.

Aside from being inexpensive and a convenient snack, carrots will provide you with a wealth of nutrition.

Beta-carotene is a main component in carrots, which helps promote and   protect your day and night vision.  No wonder those rabbits can hop so fast in the dark without bashing into the side of your shed.

Carrots are a great  source of vitamin B6, vitamin C and K.  As well as containing an abundance of potassium, copper and manganese. Oh! And dietary fiber…  you know for when you’re plugged up.

Carrots are also a divalicious antioxidant…  that awesome immune booster that helps the body protect itself from cancer, cardiovascular disease and heart attacks.

The phytochemicals… remember from chemistry class?  You know those active health-protecting compounds that are found in plants?

Diva replies:  “um.. I don’t think they taught that at my school.”

Dive Queen Bee says:  “Yeah they did… you just weren’t paying attention.”

Well anyway, in carrots they are suspected to slow down the aging process and balance hormones.  Maybe that’s why those cuddly little bunnies are such active procreators. Wink wink!

Plus let’s face it… When have you ever heard a male rabbit complain about a female bunny having PMS?

Diva says: “Oh NO you DID NOT bring up PMS!”

Diva Queen Bee says:  “Oh Yes I Did!  You better eat some carrots fast sister.”

Carrots are a nutritious and delicious treat . On the go?  Toss a bag of baby carrots into your purse and have a  healthy snack to nibble on throughout the day.

Happy Easter Diva Gals!

Do you have a date this Easter?  Did he invite you to church or Easter brunch and are you panicked about what to wear?

Naturally, we want to be the divas we normally are, but we also want to dress appropriately. You can Spring Out without looking like “Spring Floral Roadkill”.

Color counts. Go with lighter colors: pinks, lavenders, baby blues or light yellows.

If you really want to go floral. keep the blossoms small. You want the dress to highlight you, not over power you. Accent a dress with a simple cardigan. If you sport a floral skirt, then wear a solid color top. The safest colors are white or cream.

What about length?

Stay away from that hot mini you’ve been dying to wear. There will be another time to sport that number.  Instead wear a dress or skirt that’s about knee length.

Now, let’s talk about shoes.  White or cream colored… flats or low heels are always a safe choice.

Keep your makeup simple. Just a tad bit of mascara and a pinkish blush is all you need. And finish off the look with a simple string of pearls.
