I own an iPhone since quite long, but with Apple announcing iPad and recent explosion of multi-touch slate tablets, I did some research on feasibility of these gadgets. Whether I really need a tablet or will a small netbook or a laptop will solve my purpose ?

Following is the table that we came up with for novice people who can see their purpose of buying a new gadget and assign a score (1-3) for each of the purpose.

Using this table is quite simple, just see the purpose you want to use your gadget and keep adding the score for tablet slate and laptop. For example, if your main purpose of getting a new gadget is to listen to music, browsing, watching movies and portability, then you may decide on a good tablet instead of getting a laptop.

However the table is for novice people, they should carefully review the list and also plan for how much time are they going to use their new device as with age technology gets better and cheaper.

Basically when you install iTunes on your new laptop it’ll build a new library and all your data on your iPhone or iPod will be erased and synced to new data on that laptop computer. In order to transfer your old iTunes library follow simple steps below -

Steps to transfer iTunes song Library from one computer to another

1. Install Apple iTunes on your new laptop computer. If you don’t have the setup on your old computer you can download latest version of iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes

2. Depending you your iTunes library you may require few blank CDs or DVDs in order to transfer the content of the library to the discs.

3. On your old computer open iTunes and then from the File menu select “Back up to disc”

4. Now you’ll be shown some options whether you want to backup all of your iTunes library or just a part of it. Decide and select the given options as per your requirements. If you want to backup full library then select the first option to Backup entire iTunes library and press “Back up” button.

5. iTunes will prompt you to insert blank DVDs or CDs into your DVD ROM and will burn the files in it. If your data is too much, then it’ll burn it in multiple discs. It’ll automatically prompt you to insert next disc. Make sure that you do not eject the disc while iTunes is burning data in it.

6. Now once the iTunes in your old computer has finished burning the Library discs, just open iTunes and insert the first disc into the DVD ROM of your new computer. When iTunes prompts, click on the Restore button. Insert the next disc when it prompts. You are done!

Now when you plug in your iPhone or iPod into your new computer it’ll sync it with the old data which you use to sync on your old computer without deleting any of the content on your phone or your laptop.

You can add any new photos, songs, videos, contacts etc on your new computer and it’ll be in sync with your iPod or iPhone (or iPad)

Why is activation of Windows 7 important ?

If you don’t activate your Windows 7 within a given period of time then it may disable some of the important features showing you regular message notifications such as “version of Windows is Not Genuine, you may have been a victim of Software Piracy” and can also remove your wallpaper making your desktop black showing a watermark on bottom left mentioning Build 7600 “This copy is not genuine”.

If you are experiencing same trouble then follow the steps below and activate your Windows 7 as early as possible.

Steps to be followed to activate Windows 7 with your original Product Key

1. If you bought a separate DVD of Windows 7 then search for its 25 digit Product Key serial inside the box. If you are reinstalling your Windows on your laptop which already came with Windows 7 (OEM) then look for product serial key sticker on its back.

2. Once you’ve found your Product Key, press Windows + Pause/Break button together or just open System Properties by going to Control Panel –> System and Security –> System . It’ll open up System Properties Window.

3. Just look at the bottom of the Window for a link to activate Windows (show below). The link will show you the number of days left to activate Windows. Just Click on that and it’ll open another Window asking if you want to “Activate Windows Online” or “Ask me later”.

4. Click on the first option. It’ll open up another Window asking you to enter your Product Key. Enter your 25 digit Product key serial you got from step 1 and press Enter.

5. It’ll show you another Window with message “Activating Windows” “The product key is being verified”. Once it is done verifying, another Window will  show you message “Activation was successful”. Just close the Window and you are done!

Things you should know before activating Windows 7

Make sure that you are connected to internet, do not activate Windows 7 offline.
Do not use any sort of Windows 7 Product Key generators which may label your Windows as pirated and can devoid you of important security updates without which your system can be vulnerable to virus attacks etc.
If by activating online you get Error Code 0x80072F8F (Security Error), then just make sure you are connected to internet. If nothing works then re-install Windows and try again.

Steps to make files hidden in Windows 7

1. Choose a file which you want to hide by browsing through its folder and then selecting that particular file.
2. Now right click on that file and from the context menu select “Properties”.
3. Now on the new Window you’ll see one “Hidden Checkbox” which is unchecked. Check it and then click on OK button.
4. If you are still seeing that file then you need to change your hidden file options as mentioned in next few steps.
5. Open Explorer Window or Press Start button and then Click on “Computer” button.
6. Now on top left Click on “Organize” and then “Folder and Search option”
7. On the new Window, select the “View” Tab and go down a little and select the option “Don’t show hidden files, folders or drives”.
8. Your files and folders will not be visible now. In order to see them repeat the steps 5 through 7 and uncheck the option mentioned in step 7.

Top reasons why your laptop overheats and how to cool it down

Dust on laptop fan – First of all if your laptop is old then just open the shaft at the back and see whether the heating is due to the dust which is accumulated near the air vent and which is preventing the hot air to come outside. If there is dust inside, just use a small brush and a cotton swab to clean it. You can also use mini battery operated vacuum cleaners for this purpose.

Just make sure that you plug out the battery of your laptop before cleaning the dust.

Surface on which you keep your laptop – This is the primary reasons why your laptop gets overheated very soon. Laptops usually have air vent below and on the sides. So if you keep your laptop on your bed or your lap which doesn’t have flat surfaces, it’s quite obvious that your laptop will gets overheated so quickly as you are just blocking the passage from where hot air inside gets exhausted.

Always use flat surface like a table or some board below your laptop while you are working, never ever directly keep it on the soft mattress of your bed and work.
