Brian Noonan is in for Roe Conn on day two of the new year bringing you all of the laughs and news you need this afternoon!

To kick off the show, Brian welcomes back Lauren Lapka and Kevin Powell back from their time off for the holidays.

Brian then talks to WGN-TV Ben Bradley about all of the top stories happening in Chicago. Some topics include the legalization of Marijuana and the ride share tax. To close out the hour, Brian talks with ABC Correspondent Andy Fields.

Then, the conversation turns to the listeners because Brian wants to know if there is any way to completely change the old mindset for weed. Then Brian switches gears to talking about 2020 Census happening at the start of this decade. To close out hour two, Brian talks about the new story involving The Pope slapping a women’s hand as well as Chicago White Sox updates with Kevin Powell.

On the latter half of the show Brian starts it off with the Top 5 at 5. Then Brian covers some of news articles that hit the news. Some including food trucks, Lauren Lapka is a great wing-women, FDA labels, The Toaster Oven, Parents getting nanny’s and so much more!

To kick off the show, Brian covers some stories such as Lincoln’s alleged hat, a school distrcit accused of plagiarism and two friends who have sent Christmas cards to each other for decades and how our Christmas card habits have changed over the years.

Brian then talks to listeners about how to deal with guest who over stay their welcome and we all know which guest we’re talking about. He also wants to know why most family game nights end in fights. To close out the hour, Brian presents one of his classic recordings titled “Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus”.

Then, the conversation turns to wine and holiday meals with wine superstar, James Beard Award winner and show favorite Belinda Chang. Belinda brought Brian in some treats and she also shares her knowledge on wine and champagne and some tips on how to pair those beverages well with certain holiday treats. Then, producer extraordinaire Cody Gough calls in!

To wrap up the show, Brian plays you another one of his favorite Christmas Classics titled “Twas a Night Before Christmas”!

What is so special about cupcakes? Dori Isufi from Molly’s Cupcake joins Brian to share how you can celebrate National Cupcake Day and what their big special is! Next, former White Sox closer Bobby Jenks joins Brian Noonan. Jenks recently wrote an article for The Players Tribune, about his recent struggles with addiction to painkillers and why he is now sharing his story. Including a medical term the former All Star found out that he says everyone needs to be aware of! Finally, in a brand-new edition of At the Breweries, Revolution Brewing’s John Carruthers and Goose Island Brewery’s Jesse Valenciana chat with Cody Gough and Brian Noonan about some of the latest in news and events in the craft beer world.

Brian presents two brand-new editions of the “Bow Tie Theatre Review,” reviewing The Simon & Garfunkel Story and Beauty and the Beast. You can catch Broadway in Chicago’s production of The Simon & Garfunkel Story, playing through December 8, at the Broadway Playhouse in downtown Chicago (175 East Chestnut).  Beauty and the Beast is playing at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora.

Then, Brian explains why people need to relax about the “OK boomer” meme before he recaps his adventure at Goose Island’s 2019 Prop Day. He recounts the story of how he and a fellow WGN Radio host accidentally smoked cigars while indoors, and what happened as a result!

To wrap up the show, he and his producer, Cody Gough, discuss their Thanksgiving plans, including pie preferences and seasonal barrel-aged stouts to help them celebrate the season.

Then, Brian talks about over the weekend, Chicago became the largest US city to decriminalize entheogens — basically, psychedelic plants and fungi. Cody then gives a cautionary tale of psychedelics that involves a gift shop in Amsterdam and “magic truffles” with some hilarious commentary from Brian.

Then, Brian discusses a proposed tax that would affect solo rideshare passengers in downtown Chicago. He and Cody discuss the implications of such a tax and whether it might affect passenger behavior in the city.

Kevin Cary, owner of Begyle Brewing and president of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, and Danielle D’Alessandro, executive director of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, then join Brian in-studio to discuss the 17th Annual Festival of Wood & Barrel-Aged Beer (FoBAB). On November 8th and 9th, more than 200 breweries from across the country will converge on Chicago to showcase 400 of the world’s rarest, most exclusive wood and barrel-aged beer, cider, mead, and perry at North America’s largest and most prestigious barrel-aged beer festival and competition.

Andy Cole then calls in to discuss Rockin’ for a Cure, an annual fundraiser hosted by the Dads’ Chapter of the Leukemia Research Foundation. Rockin’ for a Cure is a great event for dancing, singing along, and having fun to support the fight against all blood cancers. And on top of all that, Brian Noonan will be emceeing the event, which place on Tuesday, November 19, from 7pm-10pm at Durty Nellie’s (180 N. Smith Street) in Palatine.

Nick Bowling (Director) and Jed Feder (actor) join host Brian Noonan to discuss the hit show Oslo which is coming to Chicago for a limited run at Chicago’s Broadway Playhouse (175 E. Chestnut) from Sept 10 – Oct 20th 2019.  The remarkable story weaves through the conversations that led to the Israeli prime minister and the chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization shaking hands on the White House lawn in 1993.

Brian gives a “Bow Tie Theatre Review” of Broadway in Chicago’s production of The Band’s Visit, then discusses the Cooking Up a Cure fundraiser for the Scleroderma Foundation of Greater Chicago.

Brian opens the show with a story about the phrase “when you see something, say something,” and how it impacted him in the parking garage on the way to the WGN Radio studios to do the show. He compares his tale to the experience of visiting Batman’s Batcave, which his producer Cody Gough helps expand on. Brian then shares a funny story about trying to smuggle wine into a concert.

Stephanie Gresh and Chef Cleetus Friedman then join Brian in-studio to discuss Cooking Up a Cure, a fundraising event which combines some of Chicago’s best chefs, breweries, wineries and distilleries to raise money and awareness for the Scleroderma Foundation of Greater Chicago. The event takes place on Thursday, September 12, at an all new location, City Hall (838 W. Kinzie). Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for VIP ticket holders and 6:30 p.m. for general admission guests. All proceeds from the Cooking Up a Cure event support the Scleroderma Foundation’s ongoing mission of providing support, education and research for scleroderma patients and their families.

Jeff Woelker from Underground Donut Tour then joins Brian in-studio to talk about America’s only food tour specializing in donuts. For 4 years, the Underground Donut Tour has been entertaining guests from all over the world and showcasing the truly original and delicious donuts each city has to offer. Woelker discusses the route he takes through the city, the history of donuts in Chicago, and what different donut locations have to offer.

Courtnee Carter then joins Brian in-studio to talk about Broadway In Chicago’s upcoming annual free summer concert, taking place on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 6:15 p.m. at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park (201 E Randolph St). She made her Broadway debut in the 2018 Tony Award-winning Broadway Revival of Once On This Island, which will be performed at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago from January 21 to February 2, 2020. Emilia Dobek joins Brian in-studio to discuss the 2019 3M Young Scientist Challenge. She was announced as this year’s 3M Young Scientist Challenge State Merit Winner for Illinois by 3M and Discovery Education, chosen as a result of her passion for science, spirit of innovation, and effective communications skills. She discusses the Auto-Lock Trigger System, her invention to try to help prevent mass shootings, which was her submission for the competition. She also talks about a Lockheed Martin competition she won last year when she designed a system to help astronauts make the journey to Mars.

Kathy O’Neill, Mark Piekarz, and James Conway join Brian in-studio to preview the 34th annual Irish American Heritage Festival, taking place July 12, 13 and 14. Irish Fest showcases the finest in local and international Irish and American music, dance and family activities. The festival is held on the grounds of the Irish American Heritage Center and is the institution’s biggest fundraiser.

The H Foundation President John Rot then joins Brian in-studio along with Jeff Davis, the honorary chair of the 19th annual Goombay Bash fundraising event taking place on July 27 at Navy Pier. They discuss the work the organization does to fund basic science cancer research and highlight the event’s casual Caribbean-style party vibe.

To wrap up the show, Brian talks about a recent incident at a Starbucks in Arizona where a barista asked a number of police officers to leave, and says it might be going a little too far to boycott a multi-billion dollar company for one stupid thing a barista did.

Then, Brian turns to a hot topic: the OK sign. After Oak Park River Forest High School announced it would spend more than $50,000 reprinting yearbooks because some students were displaying the hand sign. He and the crew debate the decision to reprint the yearbooks, the context and intent behind the students using the hand sign, and other related hot-button issues.

Illinois State Representative Ann Williams then calls into the show to discuss the recent vote to legalize recreational marijuana in Illinois, along with many other recent issues facing the state government, from rideshare taxes to gambling policies.

Scott Stantis, editorial cartoonist for Chicago Tribune, joins Brian in-studio to discuss Hamilton: The Exhibition, running at Northerly Island with tickets on sale through September 8. He also talks about his career as a cartoonist and some of the things he’s been writing about lately.

Then, Brian gives a “Bow Tie Theatre Review” of Broadway in Chicago’s production of Falsettos, running through June 9 at the James M. Nederlander Theatre (24 W. Randolph Street). Then, Chicago native Anna Dominguez, better known as the Queen of Tape, joins Brian in-studio to share her work-in-progress art piece commissioned by the historic St. Jane Hotel. Rejecting standard mediums like paint, pencil, or clay, Anna crafts her intricate, impactful artwork using thousands of pieces of duct tape. St. Jane has collaborated with several other Chicago-based artists to curate a truly authentic local art collection, putting an emphasis on creating a platform for female artists. Other female artists the hotel has worked with include conceptual painter Candida Alvarez, fine art photographer Alicia Savage, and contemporary painter, René Romero-Schuler.

Mikah Meyer then calls Brian to discuss his quest to visit all 400+ National Park Service sites in the United States over the next 3 years. Meyer first appeared on Brian’s show in-studio in 2016, and now, he gives an update on the journey he concluded just a week ago. He discusses his experience, what he learned, and a touching story about an animal that followed him for part of his journey. Chicago mayoral candidate Gery Chico joins Brian in-studio to talk about one of the most pressing issues facing Chicagoans: dibs! He also talks about what he’d like to accomplish if elected mayor of Chicago, and discusses other more serious policy issues.

Then, licensed psychotherapist and professor Bryan Robinson talks about his new book, “#Chill: Turn Off Your Job and Turn On Your Life.” He explains why it’s important for workaholics and others let go of anxiety, and how they can achieve and maintain the healthy work/life balance they need.

Brain discusses his experience staying at Terrible’s Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, and then Cody gives an update on his experience at CES 2019, the Consumer Electronics Show, last week. He discusses facial recognition technology, products powered by artificial intelligence, and self-driving and autonomous vehicles, coolers, and luggage (!).

Chicago dating expert Bela Gandhi, founder of Smart Dating Academy, calls in to discuss how much pre-date cyber stalking is healthy. She tells Brian about the dos and don’ts of creating online dating profiles, why you should Google your name at least once a month, and other tips for dating in today’s online/connected world.

Then, Brian turns his attention to the new Gillette ad about toxic masculinity. He explains that although he agrees with the sentiment of the advertisement, he also thinks people need to realize that the spot is corporate pandering that is intended strictly to make money.

Roger Badesch joins Brian in the studio to talk about snow and building snowmen. Brian claims he doesn’t know how to make a snowman, and hilarity ensues. Cody brings up the “fire and ice” bonfires he used to watch at First Night in Rockford, and Brian has a field day with it. Brian then discusses the story of a University of Houston professor writing a letter to his students urging them to bathe regularly and wear deodorant in class.

To wrap up the show, the Hodie Snitch band joins Brian in-studio with some live music to promote their upcoming performance at the Cash for Kids: Johnny Cash Festival at the Irish American Heritage Center on Saturday, January 26.

Brian continues talking about the Bears while Cody explains why he’s watching video game speed runs during the Awesome Games Done Quick charity event (instead of watching the Bears game like everyone else in Chicago). After some more Bears talk, Brian switches gears to talk about basketball — specifically, a story about a high school basketball team using triplets to swap free-throw shooters during a game. Is it cheating, or is it “using an edge” to win? Listeners weigh in.

Ahead of this evening’s Golden Globes ceremony, Brian asks: should celebrities “get political” in their speeches? He and Cody discuss, before they talk about the 1995 movie “Showgirls,” which Cody saw earlier that weekend. They spin off into a discussion about movies set in Las Vegas before getting back to the Golden Globes and talking about this evening’s nominees.

Could you give up your phone for a year? Now that the Weather Channel app has been accused of selling the personal data of its users, Brian and Cody discuss the pros and cons. They also talk about a hilarious series of events involving newsman Roger Badesch, who joins them for a brief conversation about Amazon delivery.

Mark Newland then calls into the show to talk about the “Government Shutdown Litter Patrol” hike he’s taking with his daughter Erica to clean up Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Then, Brian discusses how ridiculous it is that New Orleans was beaten out by a couple other cities in what he says is a terrible list of “best cities for nightlife in America.” He and Cody also discuss “Dating Sunday,” the busiest day of the year for online dating, and how you can make your profile stand out from others if you’re on the online dating scene. The show wraps up with a brand-new edition of “Florida News” — the first of 2019!
