We have a Beckett oil heater that heats the oil for a thermoplastic paint kettle. The problem we are having is, the burner ( diesel fueled ) starts fine and runs for about one minute or so and then the fuel pressure drops off and the the burner just blows smoke of unburned fuel. Then it starts again and runs for a short time and then drops off again, not allowing it to heat the oil properly. We have changed the fuel pump, the controller, and the igniter. the motor on the fan is good as it does not shut off when the fuel pressure drops. The system does have a thermo coupler, whether this might be a factor we don't know. The model an ASA ( like for steam cleaners and such ). Can you give any ideas we could try to find the problem? Thanks for your reply.

I have a 28,000 gal in-ground. When I run my pool cleaner(Kreepy Krawler)& turn my pump off, pressure builds up & water comes shooting out of the skimmer. What causes this? Also I'm not sure how to open the air bleed assembly. What should the pressure run? Thanks for your help!

Rich

You seem to understand your boiler well enough I think I can lead you through this.

1) With the boiler display in standby (STBY) mode.
2) Press and hold the STEP button. While holding the STEP button press and hold the MODE button. Hold both buttons together for several seconds until CODE is displayed. Release buttons. CODE stays on the display.
3)NOTE: If CODE is not displayed after several seconds release the buttons and press MODE button several times to return to STBY. Repeat step 2 again.
Once CODE is displayed:
4) Press STEP button once.
5) Use the + or - buttons to make the display show C-05.
6) Press the STORE button.
7) Press the mode button several times until PARA is displayed.
8) Press the STEP button until P-5 (or P-05) is displayed. This is the outlet water temperature the boiler tries to maintain whenever the outside temperature is higher than 32 degrees ( the fixed setting on the curve).
9) Use the + or - buttons to make your desired adjustment to this temperature.
10) Press the STORE button to save this change.
11) Press the MODE button until STBY is displayed to exit.
This should make the change you are looking for. You can experiment with this setting to accomplish your desired heating preference.

Good Luck

I already have that set at 185F. I guess I could make it 190F but what I really am looking to do is shift the left side of the curve up so that at 55F or so I hit 120F. If I could do that I would then want to turn the boost off.

Is that possible?

I have a CGT5 that was installed in June 2009. The contractor was terrible. He built his business over 35 years ago and now let's his kids run it. Say no more. You all know the rest. The system is wrong for my home. Aside being installed off the kitchen when the noise of the venting is terrible, it does not send hot water to the back rooms. I am now working with another contractor trying to resolve the problem Wish me luck.

Lesson learned know your contractor's reputation NOW not in the past. And call in other contractors to hear there story on their unit.

This message is for Barry or any other Bryant contractor. I want to install a bryant evolution 288ana036000 heatpump in my home. I have a newmac oil furnace. Can this be installed as an add on to my existing equipment? I am not ready to replace my furnace because it is brand new. It shows that it needs an evolution control to function properly and when I look at the wiring of the ABCD bus it shows the evolution control wired directly to the furnace than to the heat pump through that ABCD bus. Can these heat pumps work without the evolution control? Can I wire it to a 3 heat 2 cool heat pump stat?

Rich, Try raising your temperature setting for Parameter 4 (page 18 of the Control supplement). This is the setting that the water temp will operate when the outside temp is 32 or lower. It also changes the curve (Fig.5 page 10) to a steeper response in relation to lowering outdoor temperatures.

My boiler fires, then loses the flame. Each time this happens the exhaust vent opens and shuts. The boiler keeps doing this repeatedly. I have hit the emergency switch until I can get a repair tech over the house. What is the problem? Thank you.

Is there any online stores where I can get the parts from for my beckett burner. I also want the "hand pump" to push/bleed the gunk from the oil lines. are nozzles generic as long as it meets number. Thanks.
