Israeli Supermarket Advertisers Channel Hamas Leader’s Assassins

The assassination of Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh made for some pretty exciting news, who would have thought that it could help to sell groceries?

Apparently the creative minds behind an advertisement for the Mahsaney Kimat Hinam (“Almost Free Warehouses”) grocery and retail chain thought they could. A man with a tennis racket was there, so was a woman with a hat and it was all tied together with some grainy CCTV-esque footage in order to promote “the shooting down of prices”.

Presumably no foreign passports were used in the shooting of the commercial, but that doesn’t make it any less crass.

Lady Gaga Stripped For Own Safety

Lady Gaga was forced to change into normal clothes on a flight from London to the United States when one of her outfits caused her to develop deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

When the flight attendants saw her legs swelling, which is a symptom of DVT, they warned her that her life was at risk.

News.com reports that flight attendants had to help her out of the black and yellow tape outfit she had been wearing and that she also had to ditch a pair of giant blue shoes designed by her friend, the late Alexander McQueen.

An airline source is said to have commented:

Gaga was a high-risk DVT case so she was advised to change out of her clothes, but the outfit was so cumbersome she needed help changing out of it. She was particularly miffed about ditching her heels. She was wearing them in memory of her friend Alexander.

Cellphone Use During Movie Leads to Vicious Attack

Cellphones, despite all the benefits they provide (ie. safety, security, accessibility, enhanced productivity), are still a nuisance to many. Especially anyone sitting within 10 feet of someone using a cellphone during a movie–which is why theaters kindly ask patrons to shut their cellphones off during shows.

Most people adhere to this request. Some do not.

So when someone sitting near you starts yapping on their cellphone during a movie you paid $8 to see, chances are you, or someone beside you, is going to say something to that incredibly inconsiderate and rude person. Best case scenario–they apologize and turn their phone off. Worst case scenario–keep reading.

At a recent Los Angeles screening of Leonard DiCaprio’s new film, Shutter Island, a man complained about a woman sitting near him, who happened to be talking on her cellphone. The woman and her two companions left the theater, only to return a few minutes later, and stab the gentleman in the neck…with a meat thermometer.

Yikes.

Two moviegoers who aided the injured man were themselves injured in the melee. And, unlike a lot of movies, this story doesn’t have a happy ending. The victim ended up in hospital with serious injuries, and the attackers who tried taking his internal temperature remain at large.

Croatian Penis Ready For Action After Lightning Strike

Perkovci, Croatia: Plenty of people get a little nervous at the sound of thunder, but 35-year-old Zoran Jukovic has a better reason to than most – three years ago lightning struck his penis.

Croatian Times reports that since the fateful day, Jurkovic has had trouble going outside after hearing thunder.

Zoran, who was nicknamed “The Thunderous” by his friends, told Croatian tabloid 24 Sata that he is happy that his penis still works:

My friends used to tease me, and I used to tease them back saying my penis might have extraordinary ability, but it doesn’t.

He describes what happened on the day that he nearly died:

Most of the bike melted. The doctors said that I must have been hit by tens of thousands of volts, but that the rubber in the tyres saved my life.

Though I must admit to a little skepticism on this one, if true the story is true, then Jukovic is simultaneously one of the luckiest and unluckiest people on the planet.

Man Assaulted After Purchasing Crack With Monopoly Money

I’m not a drug dealer, never have been a drug dealer, and I don’t ever plan on being a drug dealer. However, despite my lack of experience in the world of selling illegal drugs, I’m pretty sure that dealers prefer to be paid in real money–not Monopoly money.

Actually, one dumbass found out the hard way that drug dealers take it very personally when they get duped into selling their merchandise for something other than cold hard cash. Very personal.

What started out as a routine traffic stop quickly deteriorated into a sordid story about crack deals, fake money and gang assaults.

Police pulled over a Wichita, Kansas man for a minor infraction. The cops found the man bleeding from the head, the victim of assault. His assailant? The drug dealer he had bought hundreds of dollars worth of crack from, using Monopoly money. Like I said–they take it very personal.

“The man from whom he had bought the drugs was upset and invited him over to his house and upon arrival struck him in the head several times with a handgun and other people jumped into the fray,” said Gordon Bassham with the Wichita Police Department.

The ballsy, yet clueless victim’s injuries are not considered life-threatening, and police have issued a warrant for the attacker’s arrest.

Romanian Street Sign Warns of Stumbling Drunks

Pecica, Romania: A Romanian town decided to take action over what was considered to be a “despairing” amount of accidents involving cars and drunken pedestrians by warning about them with street signs.

The Daily Mail reports that the signs feature a crawling stick figure with a glass in hand and a literary warning that reads, “ATTENTION DRUNKS”.

Peter Antal, the Pecica Mayor, explained the reason for the ten new signs:

We are a border town and have lots of cars thundering through here all the time. But we also have a very vibrant nightlife and the two don’t mix.

We have to target the drivers because by the time they get to this state, the pedestrians are beyond caring. In recent years… some traffic accidents (have) resulted, in some cases, even with deceased (people).

We have thought about different options (on how) we can stop this and we decided that first step was to mount these signs. We must warn drivers that sometimes people who have little control over their actions can suddenly appear in the road.

Woman Causes Car Accident While Shaving Her Private Parts

Key West, Florida: Apparently someone didn’t get the memo–it’s never a good idea to shave your private area while cruising down the highway. Does this mean that lawmakers are going to have to amend the law to include bikini-area shaving, along with texting and cellphone use, as no-no’s while driving?

Megan Barnes, 37, was involved in a two vehicle collision on her way to a rendezvous with her boyfriend in Key West. No big deal, right? Still not a big deal after finding out that she was the driver at fault.

No big deal that is, until the details of the accident emerge. Barnes figured she’d “freshen up” as it were for her date, but with little time to spare, decided to save some time and shave her privates en route. Weird enough, until you find out that she got her ex-boyfriend to steer from the passenger seat while she “cleaned up the forest,” as it were.

It was during this time that the couple rear-ended another vehicle, then continued driving so that the pair could do the old switcheroo–except that the airbag burns on the ex’s chest gave them away. The driver side airbag didn’t deploy on impact.

And if that weren’t bad enough, Barnes shouldn’t have been behind the wheel of a car…for 5 years. The day before the accident, Barnes was convicted of DUI, had her license revoked for five years, her car was to be impounded, and she was sentenced to nine months probation.

But love makes people do crazy things–and Ms. Barnes will have plenty of time for “personal grooming” since she faces a possible year in prison for violating her probation.

Herbal Remedy Saves Bull From Chopping Block

Solihull, West Midlands, United Kingdom: A herbal remedy saved a bull with a slack libido from a trip to the abattoir.

Three weeks ago, Boris the bull had an appointment with the slaughterhouse. Unable or unwilling to sire any calves, he served no useful purpose. However, owner David Joyce had a soft spot for his French Limousin and decided to break out the Horny Goat Weed to give him one more chance.

The treatment regime involved administering capsules of Horny Goat Weed and other herbs for a week. Metro reports that Boris recovered two days before his date with destiny.

Joyce explained:

He is such a nice bull and we didn’t really want to get rid of him so we started looking into alternatives. Since we fed him this herbal Viagra he has been rampant. When the cows come out he’s the first in there.

Bomb Squad Responds to Misplaced Fancy-dress Prop

Havelock North, New Zealand: Bomb squad officers were called to a New Zealand football field on Monday on account of what appeared to be an improvised explosive device.

As it turned out, the “explosives” had been misplaced by a fancy-dress party-goer, who had been dressed as a terrorist. The New Zealand Herald reports that the prop, which looked like explosive sticks with a wick, were found by a parent as a children’s soccer team was preparing to take the field.

After questioning witnesses, local police realized that the “bomb” had been part of someone’s costume.

A police spokesman explained:

We spoke to some people who had been to the party and they said someone had gone as a terrorist wearing a fake bomb. A couple of the partygoers went to the scene and confirmed the object had been part of the costume. They said the partygoers had gone down to the park to have a game of soccer and took off some of their costuming to take part. It was unintentionally left there.

Charges are not expected to be laid. Sadly, bad taste and forgetfulness do not seem to be crimes in New Zealand.
