In fact, have you checked out the plethora of low-carb products - even whole stores - dedicated to high protein, low carbohydrate eating plans? It would be easy to conclude, given what the media and some health and diet professionals have been telling us, that carbohydrates are necessarily &#039;bad&#039; and should be avoided.</p>
<p>Why, then, are grains at the top of many government eating charts (ie. they are the things we should be eating the most of, according to these charts)? Where is the misinformation? Does the government really want us to be overweight and unhealthy?<br />
In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. And contrary to popular belief, it is very possible to lose weight while still eating carbohydrates - as long as they&#039;re the &#039;right&#039; carbs, so to speak! If you look more carefully at those government generated charts (they are available online, too) you&#039;ll notice that, though pasta is included in the &#039;grains&#039; section, so are a variety of other grains. Try brown rice, for example, or try a more exotic pilaf made of kamut, wild rice of quinoa. Try oatmeal in the morning, or &#039;bird&#039;s eye&#039; cereal. All of these are examples of the healthiest types of grains. You should eat them on a daily basis, just as the charts suggest.</p>
<p>So think twice before you decide to adopt high protein eating plans such as Atkins, or the &#039;induction&#039; stage of the South Beach diet. In fact, there are some fairly serious health problems associated with eating exclusively protein, which is what you tend to use to fill the gaps once your carbohydrate intake has been severely diminished. Animal proteins are great sources of certain nutrients, and shouldn&#039;t be avoided altogether, unless you&#039;re prepared to follow a very careful and strict vegan eating plan. However, they are also high in saturated fat and cholesterol - or they can be, at any rate. It is very important that you take that into account before adopting a diet such as Atkins. It is doubly important if you are already at risk for heart disease, or if there is heart disease in your family (as these things tend to have a hereditary element to them much of the time). Think again about having your diet consist predominantly of proteins, particularly animal proteins.</p>
<p>The &#039;right&#039; carbohydrates can actually help you lose weight by &#039;sweeping&#039; fat from your system. This occurs if the carbohydrates you are eating are high in fiber. If they are natural whole grains, they most likely will be.</p>
<p>The current prejudice against carbohydrates, therefore, is entirely unjustified. They can and should be enjoyed as a part of a balanced diet. In fact, you can even eat bread and past. There are several whole wheat pastas that are widely available today - even from regular grocery stores, as these are major brands. You need to cook them a little longer than you cook white pasta, and the taste may take a little getting used to, but ultimately, many people end up preferring whole grain pasta. The same goes for brown rice, as opposed to white.</p>
<p>It&#039;s true that we started out as hunters and gatherers, and that meat, fish, and wild fruits and vegetables characterized the early human&#039;s diet. Nevertheless, we have had agriculture for at least six thousand years now - and even before that, humans must have eaten some natural forms of grain, because otherwise, how would we know to grow them once agriculture was developed? The formation of our molars are also indicative of the &#039;grinding&#039; type of chewing that is necessary for chewing whole grains. The implication is clear - humans are meant to eat carbohydrates! Virtually every great culinary tradition has a type of grain that takes a central role, be it bread or pasta or rice.</p>
<p>Though it may help you lose weight in the short term, therefore, in the long run, there is nothing to be achieved by cutting out carbohydrates. We can never really cut out carbs completely; they are a vital part of the human diet, and always will be, in all probability. The trick is to find out which carbohydrates are the most beneficial, and concentrate on those.</p>

But even though the notion that the South Beach Diet, just like any diet, will work a lot better when you combine it with a proper South Beach Diet exercise has a great possibility, the concept for the South Beach Diet exercise is still not emphasized with the diet. In fact, numerous resources have noted that the South Beach Diet exercise is not a requirement for success in the South Beach Diet.</p>

The answer is important, because it could be the key to determining what course of action you need to take in order to lose weight. A number of medical experts say that food addiction is just as serious as nicotine or cocaine addiction-and can potentially be just as deadly.</p>
<p>When you suffer from food addiction, you have an overwhelming desire for a particular food. The desire is so strong, in fact, that if you are unable to consume that food, you suffer from withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and depression. Food addicts crave the comfort that a particular food gives them. They also may engage in binge eating. Their cravings for food may be both physical and psychological.</p>
<p>It should be pointed out that there are different varieties of food addiction. For instance, there is compulsive overeating, where an individual goes on eating binges that can last several days. The addict may sometimes lose weight, but tends to gain it back again. Symptoms include eating quickly, compulsively eating alone, and eating when there is no evidence of hunger.</p>
<p>Yet another form of addiction is bulimia, in which an individual overeats, then purges either by vomiting or by taking laxatives. Signs of this condition include isolating oneself when eating, trying to consume huge portions of food rapidly, and being preoccupied with one&#039;s weight.</p>
<p>Food addiction can also come in the form of anorexia, where an individual attempts to starve oneself in order to achieve an unrealistic weight. Anorexics tend to be 15 percent below normal body weight and have a phobia about being fat. They have difficulty eating with other people and appear to be obsessed with weight. They may engage in ritualistic behavior involving food and may suffer from depression.</p>
<p>The good news is that food addiction can be successfully treated. This treatment can come in a variety of forms. A food addict may work with a psychotherapist to develop new ways to deal with food and his or her emotions. The therapist might be able to identify the source of the individual&#039;s fear or anger-the reason behind the individual&#039;s addiction. In the majority of cases, the psychologist will help the individual to develop a treatment plan which spells out expectations and goals, both for the short-term and the long-term. In the most serious cases, an individual may have to undergo in-patient treatment at a psychological facility. Treatment often involves helping the individual to return to healthy eating methods, dealing with the underlying emotional causes of addiction, and learning effective coping techniques.</p>
<p>Food addicts often follow the tenets of the same kind of 12-step program used by alcoholics. This involves admitting their powerlessness over food, their belief that they could be restored to sanity, and an admission of their faults and failings. In addition, food addicts often draw strength from support groups made up of people who have similar difficulties dealing with food. Just knowing that there are other people who face the same challenges can be incredibly therapeutic.</p>
<p>It is unclear at this point whether food addiction is a genetically-based illness. Certainly, however, there is evidence of eating patterns being passed down from one generation to the next. In fact, many food addicts may only seek help after they have determined that their illness could adversely affect their children.</p>
<p>It is entirely possible that a food addiction can never be cured, that it can only be treated. In other words, the recovery period for the addiction can last a lifetime. However, one should never lose hope of beating a food addiction. With patience and with time, individual addicts can learn the behavioral skills which will enable them to keep their weight under control. Of course, there will be times when individuals will be tempted to indulge in sweets or excessive carbohydrates. However, knowing the pain that they will undergo if they continue their harmful eating habits could be just the incentive they need to stay the course.</p>

Simmer until heated through and then remove from heat. Cover and let stand for 5 minutes. Using a fork, fluff lightly, then chill and serve cold. Serves 4.</p>

Even if you can not afford to have your weight training program created by a pro, you should at least talk to a friend who has been working out for a while to show you the ropes.</p>

Though not a magic bullet by any means, studies show that garcinia cambogia can be effective in helping people lose weight in two basic ways - first, it blocks the conversion of sugar and refined carbohydrates into fat during metabolism, and second, it may help suppress appetite by raising the brain chemical level of serotonin. Seratonin is a substance that we get by eating certain foods - turkey is the most famous example, but by no means the only one - and it also calms you down. This is very significant, because some studies indicate that overweight people overeat because they feel anxious, and the serotonin in food is a way for them to self-soothe in order to calm down. If serotonin can be obtained by taking garcinia cambogia, people who engage in this type of adaptive overeating may well be able to overcome their problem. The active ingredient in garcinia cambogia - the ingredient that causes these effects - is known as HCA. It has been tested in a lab situation, and on both human and animal subjects.</p>
<p>Though there are those that swear by it, at this point, there is a bit of confusion over whether garcinia cambogia really does help people lose weight. To date, several studies have been done, but evidence is mixed. Almost ten years ago, one study was done of 60 individuals, and it did seem as though they lost more weight as compared to people who took a placebo. However, subsequent tests didn&#039;t yield the same result. One suggestion is that this might be because the people in that test were on a high-fiber diet. That may be true, because the fiber could conceivably have swept the supplement from the body too soon, before it could do its work. Overall, however, most studies do show that there is some weight loss with the use of garcinia cambogia, and that this is accelerated if a low carbohydrate diet is followed. The diet need not be as low in carbs as Atkins, however; the important thing seems to be to avoid excessive sugars and refined carbohydrates. If you do that, then the supplement can take care of any sugars that you do eat, preventing them from being turned into fat.</p>
<p>Garcinia cambogia is a natural substance; it comes from the rind of a fruit that is grown in India and parts of Africa. Apparently, it was a folk remedy in those parts that was discovered by westerners in the past few decades, and refined into a form that can be easily taken as a dietary supplement. Though garcinia cambogia may well make you lose weight, and should be considered particularly if you tend to eat out of a sense of anxiety (that is, if you eating tends to be emotional rather than hunger-based) and if you, furthermore, tend to accumulate weight around your belly. Belly fat, besides being unattractive, is a bad thing from a health standpoint too. It usually indicates that your insulin levels are not adequately dealing with the level of sugar and starch that you are consuming, so these substances are being turned into fat instead. Over time, this means that you may be at higher risk of contracting diabetes, because that disorder is also caused by insufficient in inefficient insulin response. Furthermore, carrying weight around the belly (like diabetes itself) is a risk factor for heart disease. To avoid contracting either of these potentially fatal conditions, try to regulate your intake of sugars and refined starches. Garcinia cambogia can help, too - it doesn&#039;t regulate insulin response, but it can help you avoid accumulating fat in that area by stopping the formation of fat as a result of sugar and starch intake.</p>
<p>Garcinia cambogia is available from a variety or retail or internet sources. There are several brands available, with little difference between them. However, if you have a naturopath or natural pharmacy that you trust, you would do well to ask them about the specific product that they recommend.
