“Heirassa-Polka” was so popular that in 1959 Alois Schilliger (Piano) formed a folk group and called it “Kapelle Heirassa” together with Walter Grob (Accordion), Kaspar Muther (Saxophone and Clarinet) and Kari Keiser (Double Bass).

“Kapelle Heirassa” also became well-known all over Switzerland.

Alois Schilliger was born on December 24, 1924 in Weggis, Switzerland. He died on January 17, 2004 at the age of 80.

In honor and memory of Alois “Heirassa” Schilliger being one of the famous people from Weggis and who also spent most of his time in Weggis, Heirassa Festival was organized. Heirassa Festival is being celebrated in Weggis every year, most of the time on the second weekend of June.

Aside from the Heirassa festival, a bronze relief memorial tablet of Alois Schilliger was mounted on a wall along Seestrasse (street) in Weggis at the back of Weggis Lakeside Pavilion or “Pavillon am See”.

The bronze relief memorial tablet of Alois “Heirassa” Schilliger was unveiled on August 15, 2004.

The Alois “Heirassa” Schilliger bronze relief memorial tablet was created by Marco D’Angelo, a local artist from Weggis.

Rigi-Kaltbad is your first stopover if you are coming from Weggis via the aerial cable car or coming from Vitznau or Goldau via the cogwheel train going up to Mount Rigi or Rigi Kulm. Mount Rigi is a famous and popular mountain in Switzerland. It is even called the Queen of the Mountains in Switzerland.

So before you go up to Mount Rigi, virtually travel with me on a boat going to Weggis. Let us enjoy our boat ride while looking at the spectacular views of the villages along Lake Lucerne especially Weggis. Enjoy the ride!

The Weggis Oberdorfquai where the pavilion is located is a good area to relax just sitting and lazing along the lake and at the same time enjoying the panoramic view of Lake Lucerne and the alps. People frequent this particular place especially during summer.

The Pavilion along the lake is the venue for a variety of concerts, folklore and other shows. There is an orchestra playing here on a regular basis. Big events like the Weggis Rose Festival, the Riviera-Latina Festival, and the Heirassa Festival are always being held here. These events are normally being celebrated for three consecutive days.

When I was checking these photos I was really surprised when I saw the dates I took the photos. There are two photos above which were dated June 04, 2007, one month after the new pavilion was officially opened. If you noticed the filename of the photos, there are four photos which were dated June 04, 2009.

Exactly two years after! I actually took those photos of the Lakeside Pavilion on June 04, 2009 without me realizing it that I also took some photos of the pavilion on June 04, 2007. If you noticed again, it seems like nothing has really changed since that day.

The lakeside pavilion is just a stone throw-away from the Weggis Tourist Information Office, Weggis Bus and Boat Station. There are several restaurants, hotels, and small shops around the area.

Lazing at the Pavilion along the lake or Pavillon am See in Weggis is always a delight despite having a lot of people during summer.

If Mount Rigi is a popular place for fun and recreation, for hiking and nordic walking, so is Rigi-Kaltbad. You can also go tobogganing and skiing from Rigi Kulm to Staffel and Rigi-Kaltbad during Winter even at night. During Winter, the toboggan run from Mount Rigi / Rigi Kulm to Staffel and the toboggan run and ski slope at Gratalp / Rigi Kaltbad are illuminated. This coming Winter 2009-2010 from January 08, 2010 to February 26, 2010, the toboggan runs will be illuminated on friday nights.
