Indianapolis Wedding Calligraphy

This wedding calligraphy was done with black ink

The wedding will be held at the Grand Hall of the Crowne Plaza Union Station, which is the historic train station in Indianapolis. The beautiful and clever invitations were designed by Laura Nehls.

As a Purdue alum, it pains me every time I do calligraphy for a wedding at Beck Chapel on the campus of Indiana University. I'm just kidding. Beck Chapel is beautiful and would make a wonderful venue for a small, intimate wedding ceremony. In fact, the bride and her mother were a real pleasure to work with and were excellent ambassadors for I.U. :)

French Quote for A Wedding Gift

This quote was done for a client to give as a gift for a friend's wedding. The lettering in French was done in my Whimsical Design Style. I did a custom lettering style for the English translation and the attribution. The finished piece is approximately 26" x 13".

Aspen Mountain Wedding Deck Colorado Calligraphy

From beginning to end, these wedding invitations were custom made. The couple's ceremony will take place at the beautiful Little Nell Aspen Mountain Wedding Deck in Aspen, Colorado. Ghega Scolari of Cartabella Shop designed the invitation.

Ghega designed the logo which incorporates the initials of the couple and an aspen leaf - giving the logo a cattle brand feel - a nod to the groom who is from Texas. Ghega also hand cut each leather tie from a large deer skin.

The self-mailer style invitations will be slipped into clear, protective sleeves before the postage is added.

The calligraphy was custom designed and not one of my regular design styles. I did the lettering before the invitations were folded. The buckskin colored ink worked perfectly with the leather tie.

40th Birthday Dinner Party Invitation in Calligraphy

Although this client work wasn't done for a wedding, I felt the style of lettering warranted inclusion here. The calligraphy was done for a 40th birthday dinner party thrown by the client for her husband. She requested my Lavish Design Style. The invitations were custom lettered for each guest. I took the Lavish Design Style a step further by creating an ornamental flourish at the bottom of each invitation.

New York Wedding Calligraphy - Tarrytown House Estate

This wedding invitation suite was designed by Ghega Scolari for a delightful bride from Maryland. The first three photos were taken prior to the final ribbon color selection. The wedding will take place at the beautiful Tarrytown House Estate in New York.

Ghega created a custom logo incorporating the bride and groom's initials and symbols of importance to the couple.

Also included in the design is the couple's dog, Maggie.

(How cute is that?!)

Here is the invitation with the final ribbon selection. The bride was kind enough to send me this photo as well as the two below. I rarely get to see the invitations after they leave my studio, and it is such a treat to see them after the fulfillment process.

The couple's custom logo was included on their postage stamps. You can have real U.S. postage stamps custom made at Zazzle. The bride is thrilled with her invitations claiming she is "the happiest bride in the world!" (Which makes me the happiest calligrapher in the world!) :)

The fulfillment is complete! Next stop - post office! I look forward to doing the place card calligraphy for this couple.

Ruth 1:16 Calligraphy - Wedding Gift for Groom

I had done the invitation envelope calligraphy for this bride, and she contacted me about doing some more lettering for her. (I love it when that happens. Repeat customers are so gratifying!)

She wanted to give her groom something special for their wedding. She purchased alphabet photographs to spell out their last name. (Similar to these) She then had a custom matboard made, and hired me to letter an excerpt from Ruth 1: 16 beneath the photo openings.

Ruth 1:16 is a beautiful declaration of loyalty and love. Although this declaration was made from a daughter-in-law (Ruth) to her mother-in-law (Naomi), it is a favorite and fitting passage of scripture for husbands and wives. The excerpt reads:

Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.

Your people will be my people and your God my God. -Ruth 1:16 NIV

Jamie and Michael wanted the calligraphy for their wedding invitation envelopes to be elegant but also a little different than the standard 3 or 4 line address. They chose this style based on an envelope they saw at my Flickr account, which you can also see by clicking here.

Rather than using a traditional inner and outer envelope set, their invitations incorporated a small placard.

I'm not sure how Patti's carvers managed to maintain the thin strokes as well as they did. I'm sure it was quite a challenge - especially given the small size!
