The next person who joins our team will be well versed in web app development, with a passion for building high-performing, flexible Ruby systems. The ideal candidate understands what is involved with great Ruby on Rails code, loves to build easy-to-use products, is familiar with the ins and outs of cloud DevOps, isn't intimidated by diving into a large existing application, and isn't afraid to get his or her hands dirty in front-end code when needed.

Responsibilities

Lead the development of the next-generation version of the Webvanta SaaS platform, working with the chief architect
Migrate to new Rails version and to AWS platform, and evaluate migration from MySQL to Mongo for parts of the app
Implement high quality custom features for some of our largest clients in both Ruby and JavaScript
Monitor, analyze, and correct performance and operations issues in a cloud environment

Requirements

Experience shipping one or more Ruby on Rails web apps (send us a link)
Strong understanding of the Ruby language, and Ruby on Rails versions 2 and newer
Very comfortable with HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (jQuery especially)
Strong CS fundamentals with practical engineering experience using iterative and incremental methods, TDD/BDD, and pragmatic "agile" techniques
Experience with Git for version control (what's your github handle?)
Have used server APIs and maybe even built some
Effortless communication with technical and non-technical team members and customers
Ability and passion to learn new techniques and technologies quickly (personal projects, portfolio, blogs that demonstrate this big plus)

It Would Be Great If You Also Have...

Experience migrating from Rails 2 to newer versions of the platform
Experience with AWS and Chef
Familiarity with 3rd party APIs using Ruby on Rails and Ruby tooling and techniques
Experience scaling and working with high traffic web sites (architecture, performance analysis/tuning)
Experience with server admin and cloud platforms
