Turning your text into clouds is not as hard as it seems. In this guide, we will talk about how you can convert titles on flyers, posters or catalogs into something more interesting. Just follow the quick tutorial steps below and you will see how easy it is for anyone with basic knowledge of Photoshop to actually to this.

STEP 1

The first step of course is setting up your document. Remember that you can of course create a graphic for the title first and now your WHOLE printed work depending on how you want to work with your designs. However, it is important to setup the document correctly so that you can transfer your cloud text easier to other media. So when you setup your new document in Photoshop, not only must you set a fairly large size, but also a fairly large resolution of about 300ppi or higher.

STEP 2

Now, setup a background for your cloud text. This will depend of course on your purposes and theme. If you are going to transfer this elsewhere, then a white or transparent background color would be more practical. However, for you to see the effect, in this example, we will be using a blue gradient colour for the background to simulate the sky. (colors: #00bff3 – #2a9ae2)

STEP 3

Now, it would be time to write our text. To create the text correctly, you should use a very thin type text here. So make sure you choose something like “Century Gothic” or “Helvetica Neue Light”. In this example, we have used the light Helvetica font in a light grey color.

STEP 4

To make space for the cloud effects, we have set the character spacing for the text to around 100. Just do this by selecting your text and going to the character panel. Look for the icon with an AV graphic and horizontal arrow.

STEP 5

Hold down the CTRL key and then click on the image thumbnail of your new text layer, this will help you select the area of the text as needed.

STEP 6

Now, click on the Paths panel and then click on the icon indicated below. This will create a new work path based on the selection that you just made earlier.

STEP 7

Next, use the Direct selection tool to delete one side of your text paths. This helps us get only a line path in the shape of our text. Do this for all your letters.

STEP 8

Great! Now you have the paths set for the cloud effect. Now, we just need to create the cloud rendering. To do this, we shall create our own custom brushes. Just go to the brushes panel to start doing this. (Go to Window -> Brushes, if it is missing). Once the panel is open, click on the Create new Brush icon.

STEP 9

First, set the brush shape with these settings.

STEP 10

Next click on the option for Shape dynamics and set these options.

STEP 11

Then, click on Texture and apply these options. NOTE: for the cloud pattern, if you do not see it, simply click on the right arrow icon and click on Texture Fill. This might help you spot the cloud pattern in the options.

STEP 12

Finally, click on “Other Dynamics” and use these settings.

STEP 13

Finally, use the direct selection tool again and then right click on a letter path. Click on Stroke Path or Stroke Subpath to apply the cloud brush to the path.

STEP 14

Just make sure to use the brush as the primary option for stroking the path.

STEP 15

Great! Now we have a nice Cloud Text for your title.

STEP 16

For our example, we are going to create a poster out of this effect. So we write in a whole title with this cloud effect. We have redone the title here with our new poster title “sky’s the limit”.

STEP 17

For an additional accent we added a new layer on top of the background layer. With a foreground color of white, and a background color of light blue, we clicked on Filter -> Render -> Clouds. This rendered a layer with clouds of the gradient layer we created earlier.

STEP 18

Then, we changed the blending mode of this new layer to screen and reduced its opacity to 60%.

STEP 19

Then, using a large and soft eraser tool brush, we erased the central part of this cloud rendered layer to emphasize our central title text and accent the clouds as borders.

STEP 20

Finally, using a large radius of our cloud brush, place in a couple more cloud formations as extra border accents to our poster design.

Congratulations! Now you know how to turn your text into Clouds for your posters.

It’s easy to say that a logo is something negligible and that with the help of an application in a few minutes anyone can create a couple of drawings. Nevertheless, by judging deeper it’s relatively simple to see that this idea has no real base. Is a logo such a difficult design product? Can anyone create a logo? Definitely not. After reading this post you will have a better idea about logos and what work lies behind them.

A logo is controversial mostly because there are two main aspects in creating one:

The creator must be an artist, as by manipulating few shapes and letters, he must create something that “speaks” to the viewers. There is no math, no rule just the inner power of the creator;

At the same time, the creators of logos or logo designers, as they are called, must have a solid background about design and should be experts in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop or other similar programs.

To be more precise, a good logo designer should be half artist and half IT specialist, but of course, he must know the rules of good design and only few people are a fortunate combination of these conditions. Obviously, no one is born a logo designer and a strong will in addition to a huge endeavor would be the starting ingredients in a glorious career as a logo designer.

The starting point in becoming a logo designer is, as in any other trade, the knowledge of the basic principles. Fortunately, these aren’t complicated nor numerous but it’s highly recommended to obey them. On the other hand, only browsing a few collections of logos, it’s impossible not to notice that many have nothing to do with the basic principles of building them. There’s no mistake, the rules are created to be broken, the talented & experienced designers allow themselves to create logos which aren’t created by the rules but are stunning pieces of design and nobody can state that they aren’t well done. Anyway, as a rookie designer you should obey these principles below:

1.A logo should be simple

The main feature of any logo is simplicity. It must be simple because the role of a logo is to make the connection between a product/company/service represented and the public. The justification is also simple: there are many logos in our society, wherever you are looking it’s impossible not to see a banner, a symbol, a logo, as people are bombarded with them. Under these circumstances a common individual hardly remembers any of these marketing items, he must see something simple and astonishing in order to pay attention else everything is catalogued as “other stuff”.

2.A good logo is versatile

A logo is not just a graphical creation, it plays a vital role in the entire process of marketing. As a consequence, the logo must be presented on all means of promotion (on the official website, on business cards, on banners, on various ads, even on T-shirts). The capacity of a logo to be very well rendered on multiple modalities of use is called versatility and it’s capital in judging the value of it.

3.A logo should be timeless

The principles of logo design aren’t axioms created just to have rules to impress beginners, these are the result of experience. As was mentioned previously, a logo is part of the branding activity and a frequent change of it isn’t the smartest move ever made. It takes something special for people to familiarize themselves with a logo, time must pass and often logo modifications are very confusing.

4.There is no need of many fonts and colors

The studies revealed that the most well-known logos aren’t complicated, made up from a bunch of shapes and colors, but on the contrary, less means more in this field. The recommendations of the experts are clear: more than three types of fonts and colors are already a source of worries, usually two of these make a good team.

5.Black and white highlight the concept

A logo is indeed a design product but it is also a concept that must highlight the owner. A quality logo is based on a cool concept, no one creates a nice logo based on a decent or bad idea behind it. Any logo designer starts the building of a logo with pen and paper, in this way he sketches the concept first and after he finishes it he can start the effective work on making a digital file. Especially for beginners the advice of the experts is to work a lot on a black and white format as this is a well-defined concept.

Searching the Internet, other logo designers and bloggers expose many principles, some of them important more or less, but these are synthetizing the essence of logo design, these are mandatory. Unfortunately, only by knowing these by heart one is not a logo designer, only hard practice is the only way of turning someone in a logo designer.

I am 100% that no blogger may write a post about web design that is completely original.Writing about the originality and the condition of the web design bloggers is a very delicate subject. A part of the readers agrees with this situation while others accuse that it is only a false excuse that hides incompetence and laziness. Which opinion is true? Is there a clear answer? The purpose of this post is to reveal the perspective of the blogger, the one accused of amateurism and to demonstrate that his efforts are impressive but due to the huge market it’s impossible to be merely original or bring only fresh content. The Internet is full of web design blogs, some from 2005 and some from 2012 and the number will increase while the web design evolves, but the principles of beautiful design or color theory fundaments remain the same. It’s true that now web design is turning into responsive web design but in the very deep essence, all remains the same. Under these circumstances, when the number of bloggers is fabulous and the news is immediately published, how could someone be original? But, in fact, how can a blogger write an original blog post?

1.Offering something new

Definitely, even the definition of the originality concept means to bring something new, unseen. An original post of this kind means to present something unexpected from the web design community but here the news travels faster than speed of light and only the “big players” are connected to the source providing such types of information. I may be skeptical, but for a normal blogger, no matter how passionate he is, it’s almost impossible to realize such a post.

2.Offering a personal perspective

This is a most likely possibility and definitely, it must be encouraged by all blog administrators. The personal projections regarding various subjects are very interesting and the readers get involved in these. In three years of guest blogging, I noticed that these posts are the source of many comments. Paradoxically, the point of view offered shouldn’t be the one agreed by the community. As long as you come with a decent argumentation, the readers surely will become interested in offering a reply.

3.Combining them

Another solution for writing a very original and quite probable interesting post is a combination of the above two paragraphs. Very good examples of posts respecting this pattern are the ones about HTML5. Last year it was a hot topic, lots of opinions being presented in the web design blogosphere. As soon as the posts weren’t only a banal enumeration of new features, the interest of people got high. The common conception amongst readers is that the bloggers are the best specialists (which it must be, indeed) and their personal perspectives are very important.

Anyway, the conclusion is pretty simple: any blogger must express his point of view, no matter which is it, it must be decent and well grounded. The disagreement of the readers shouldn’t be considered as the sign of a bad post, it’s an exchange of opinions. Usually, the value of these posts is high but it supposes a considerable volume of work of the creator. Therefore, you observed that it isn’t so easy to write only original content but there are enough reasons why the posts look somehow similar:

4.The subjects are the same

It’s obvious, you couldn’t write about fashion when your blog is attacking the design topics. The adjacent fields as social media or search engine optimization are potential categories but in this way, the blog becomes generalist and not web design related. Anyway, there must be a wise balance between specific web design posts and adjacent ones in order to be correctly catalogued as a web design blog.

5.The issues are pretty much the same

A very good subject for writing posts is to explain the most difficult or unseen aspects of a software or of a program. The idea is that by offering clear explanations to difficult tasks many readers will come and join the community around your blog. There is no paradox, but usually people encounter difficulties in the same pattern, hence what is difficult for a European is the same for an American and so on. Under these circumstances, every blogger will post the same problems with other words. It seems foolish but consider this aspect: at the moment of writing this post, there are some rumors about the new features of Adobe Photoshop CS6. Writing a post about these will attract many readers but there is the risk to be considered outdated by presenting something which was presented on other blogs. Much more, the visitors may appreciate your post as being boring, presenting the same ideas. From the reader’s perspective it’s right, but thinking from the blogger’s point of view, how could he present other features as long as these don’t exists?

6.The amazing rhythm of posting

The main blogs of the web design blogosphere post almost daily and, in order to be visited, this schedule of posting is almost mandatory. This means that everyday a new post must be written and published, so how could someone resist in this context? The bloggers accepted the help of other author posts and this is the way the concept of guest posting was developed. However, it can’t be a solution to offer only fresh and original content.

In the end, I really don’t encourage the mediocrity of the web design blogs but before criticizing any post it is better to think twice. Efforts have been made and the work and sacrifice must always be appreciated.

WordPress is a well known CMS, however to implement some different things we need some lateral thinking. Nowadays we find that most of the blogs are displayed in multiple column formats. We can also build this style with the help of CSS and other tools. But with the help of WordPress we can design it in easy and perfect manner provided little knowledge of WordPress is required. Newspapers and magazine themes are good example of displaying blogs in multiple columns.

What to do

A single function the_content(args) is used to manage output type or pattern of a blog. But to place output into multiple column format, we need some other technique. WordPress provides get_the_content() function to return the content as a PHP variable.

Using WordPress

The better solution is to use tag in WordPress. Normally the tag is used to split articles into two or more pages, but remember not all themes support this technique. Only WordPress default page support this technique.

Following are some advantages of tag:

Divisions can be placed anywhere in the content.

Both in the visual and HTML editing pane a “more” toolbar button is available.

Even non-technical user can understand the technique of splitting article in multiple columns.

Steps to follow

Here is an actual implementation of code. Before creating any file, first locate theme folder of project. Create function.php file in the same directory and put following code in it.

// This code splits article into multiple tag and returns an array

function split_content() {

global $more= true;

$content = preg_split('//i', get_the_content('more')); for($c = 0, $csize = count($content); $c

}

// returns the content in the form an array

return $content;

}

Next, find the file in your theme directory which actually implement the the_content() function.

However, we can find this function call in a single.php and page.php because these file displays single post.

Once the relevant code or file is found, call above function i.e split_content() instead of calling simply the_content() function. Or comment out the_content() function and below that call split_content() function.

After editing your code will looks like as follows:

// Commented the_content() function

// Following function splits contents into array

$content = split_content();

// Output of first content section is placed in content2

echo '', array_shift($content), '';

// Remaining contents are placed in content2

echo '', implode($content), '';

?>

The above code will return the content in the form of array. Each element of an array contains single content block at respective index position. This can only be possible with the help of tag.

Summary

There are lot many technique with which we can split the contents into multiple columns like using CSS3 and progressive enhancement or displaying multiple loops in multiple columns. But using WordPress we can easily implement this technique. With less code and little amount of implementation logic this code is also helpful for non technical users. The most important things to remember are finding an appropriate display php file and using more tag.

Web designing has emerged as a much sought after career, due to the fast paced progress in the internet. Web designers are coming up with creativity and most have a signature style that makes their work stand out in the crowd. There are a few necessities a web designer needs to keep track of to emerge as a successful designer. One must ensure a clutter free and user friendly website that would act as an example of your work as well as serve the purpose of advertising for oneself. Important contact details should be included in this website for future reference.

A very important aspect of getting hired is having a very good portfolio. The portfolio of the web designer should be linked to websites which have been created by them and which speaks about their extraordinary skills. An authentic portfolio is what draws the attention of clients who would want to work with the web designer.

The basic qualities of a web designer are his or her creativity. The uniqueness and the novelty is what would speak volumes about the skill of a designer and a website linked to a portfolio can actually establish this fact.

The basics that a web designer has to accomplish is that how well they can incorporate the skills of a designer to suit the requirements of the client with features like flexibility and proper attention to details provide by the client. A good portfolio can also give the client an idea of the variety of work that a web designer can do.

Besides a good preview of the work, a web designer can also put in details like record of the previous work that has been done by the designer. These can give the client who is willing to work with the designers an insight of the kind of the work that can be expected. It has been found that a lot of information that is found online can be full of faults and errors. To establish a portfolio that is genuine , one has to make it stand out in the crowd. There are simple steps to make the portfolio stand out, and that is by making it simple and full of information that is required.

There is no point putting excessive graphics or text that makes the web pages full of error that might make the client decide not to hire you. Ensure that all the links that back track to particular web pages are working as an inactive link can cause you to lose an exciting project. Also ensure that the contact details that are established are all correct and up dated as there should be no delay in getting back with a reply once contacted.

Certain web pages demands that the payment details be entered immediately after the project has been finalized. Too much emphasis on payment can cause the client to become a little suspicious of the authenticity of the designer. Ensure there is a stock of good work that the client can refer to before finalizing you for the project.

In today’s world of social media, a lot of attention is given to these sites. Ensure that the web page a designer has on these sites are all linked to the main website where the portfolio links to, and make sure the links all work. It is our general knowledge that in the virtual world, appearance is all that draws people’s attention. The web pages or fan pages should be well made and the basics of web designing like putting important information, doing away with the extra useless information and not including jazzy graphics and texts. The web designer can settle down for a subtle design with a good use of application programs. The best part about a online portfolio is the ease with which one can update the portfolio from time to time. An up gradation also ensures that the current work the designer is undergoing will go on the website as his or her accomplishment. The more work the designer cam account for, the better is the chances of getting new work.

The most important thing is to endorse your work, and what better way than to make a graphical logo that would symbolically resemble your work. Logos should essentially portray your work in a few words with a very smart caption. Including short descriptions for the earlier projects the web designer has worked on can give the client a preview of the work.

A portfolio is like a marketing strategy that can get a designer a dream project, so make sure that your portfolio is unique and informative. Ensure there are no faults and all the links work very well to avoid losing out on important clients.
