What is Polycarbonate?

They are easily worked, moulded, and thermoformed; as such, these plastics are very widely used in the modern chemical industry. Their interesting features (temperature resistance, impact resistance and optical properties) position them between commodity plastics and engineering plastics.

Polycarbonate are probably most commonly found in plastic water containers and water bottles.
And now this synthetic material is used in watches.

Polycarbonates are light-weight, CHEAP, and tough.

I guess polycarbonates will only be used in the lower end, mass produced watches – and hopefully so. I am not really a fan of polycarbonate, but then again, if you are looking for a beater watch whereby you can rough it out without feeling the pinch of your wallet, I say go ahead and get one Polycarbonate watch — after all there is not much soul into making a polycarbonate watch as compared to even the most entry manual winding movement timepiece.

Four screws on the corners of the case, they give great balance to the overall design of the Croton CX2. The face of the watch is patterned with black sunray effect and comes with a choice of yellow, green, red, blue accents. Arabic numerals sit at the “12”, “6” and “9” position with a visible black date on white background at “3”.

At first glance, one can only notice the good amount of stainless steel the watch is constructed. The steel used is of surgical grade 316L stainless steel with Maritime Aluminum. The case is a good 50mm which makes it the perfect big wearable watch. If you notice carefully, the cabon fiber dial is deep which means the watch is quite a height too! The dials are available in 3 different colors of Shock Blue, Shock Orange, Shock Yellow or Shock Green. I love the Shock Green version!

Internally speaking, it houses a reliable Swiss ISA 8172/220 Quartz Chronograph, which boasts accurate and quality movement.

I personally like the way how the pushers and unidirectional rotating outer bezel are designed and made. With a water resistance of 50m, I know this watch will still be wearable in extreme sports conditions.

The rubber straps are particular my favorite; with the etched logo and words, the watch looks immensely attractive with the rubber strap.
