It seems that there are more and more fashion watches, sport watches and counterfeit watches moving into using polycarbonate as a material for their watches.

What is Polycarbonate?
[From Wikipedia]: Polycarbonates are a particular group of thermoplastic polymers. They are easily worked, moulded, and thermoformed; as such, these plastics are very widely used in the modern chemical industry. Their interesting features (temperature resistance, impact resistance and optical properties) position them between commodity plastics and engineering plastics.

Polycarbonate are probably most commonly found in plastic water containers and water bottles.
And now this synthetic material is used in watches.

Polycarbonates are light-weight, CHEAP, and tough.

To name some of the watches out there that uses this material:
- O.D.M

- ADIDAS

and – FOSSIL

I guess polycarbonates will only be used in the lower end, mass produced watches – and hopefully so. I am not really a fan of polycarbonate, but then again, if you are looking for a beater watch whereby you can rough it out without feeling the pinch of your wallet, I say go ahead and get one Polycarbonate watch — after all there is not much soul into making a polycarbonate watch as compared to even the most entry manual winding movement timepiece.

The movie “SharkWater” released in 2008, that documents the catastrophic effects of the organized poaching of the oldest predator of our oceans,The Shark, has inspired a new Eco-Active watch brand to be born – TEMPVS COMPVTARE in the Neuchatel’s belt, birthplace of Swiss Watchmaking, Switzerland.

The SharkWatcher draws its design inspirations from the underwater universe. Its hydrodynamic shape and the generous dimensions of the box are dedicated to a submarine. SharkWatcher waterproofness and visibility are guaranteed up to 200 meters (660 ft) deep.

No animal skin is used at any stage of the fabrication of our watches. Each step of its conception and each element used have been thought to fully respect the environment. In order to reduce the impact of transportation on the environment, SharkWatcher is also 100% produced and assembled in Switzerland.

“Each Tempvs Compvtare’s edition supports an association actively involved in the defense of threatened species, and yet, essential to our survival. One third of net earnings on each watch sold is offered to supported associations, enabling concretes preservation projects.

Purchase a Tempvs Compvtare time-piece enables its buyer to support the earth’s preservation. ”

At first glance, one can only notice the good amount of stainless steel the watch is constructed. The steel used is of surgical grade 316L stainless steel with Maritime Aluminum. The case is a good 50mm which makes it the perfect big wearable watch. If you notice carefully, the cabon fiber dial is deep which means the watch is quite a height too! The dials are available in 3 different colors of Shock Blue, Shock Orange, Shock Yellow or Shock Green. I love the Shock Green version!

Internally speaking, it houses a reliable Swiss ISA 8172/220 Quartz Chronograph, which boasts accurate and quality movement.

I personally like the way how the pushers and unidirectional rotating outer bezel are designed and made. With a water resistance of 50m, I know this watch will still be wearable in extreme sports conditions.

The rubber straps are particular my favorite; with the etched logo and words, the watch looks immensely attractive with the rubber strap.

The Invicta Subaqua Noma III Ocean Quest comes with 2 rubber straps, 1 leather strap and one stainless steel bracelet; all in one nicely built submarine travel case. It also comes with tools for you to change the straps easily without having to go to the watchmaker.

You cannot go wrong with the Invicta Subaqua Noma III Ocean Quest.

Hailing from Place Vendôme, Paris, comes a new brand of watches called Patton P42.

PATTON P42 watches owe their reputation of solidity to their high-tech nature and their thorough laboratory testing. Their watchmakers’ values are changeless: precision, solidity, reliability.

Real-life trials and tests (called PATTON CHALLENGES) were conducted to establish the fact that all PATTON P42 watches can be functional in all situations.

Each PATTON P42 is assembled, controlled and adjusted with the greatest of care in our Swiss workshop before being awarded the “PATTON P42 EXPERTISE” seal of approval.

Upon production completion, and after undergoing numerous quality tests, each watch is given an individual identification number, engraved on the case-back.

All watches are using high grade Swiss quartz movements, 316L surgical grade stainless steel case and screw-in caseback, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

There are 3 categories of watches; but what capture my attention has to be the P42 Chronographe, which has a total of 17 variations, depending on the strap or dial material.
