Oct 12, 2009

Dan (WA6PZB) and Myself (KG6YGD) hiked to the top of Garcia Trail Located just above the city of Azusa.

Our intent was to scout the area and attempt to work QRP atop the peak @ 2000′, both were a success – We managed to work a few people via 2 meter simplex @ 0.5 miliwatts of power using the standard rubber duck on the yeasu 817-ND. Dan’s First contact was located in Chino Hills (mobile) and was hearing Dan at S8, My contact via 2 meter simplex at the same power setting came in from the city of Laguna Hills, whom was really surprised at the power level I was running.

After playing with 2 meter simplex Dan and I setup for HF operations, which turned out to be less fruitful than are activities on 2 meter.

All in All the hike up was fun and being on top of a peak with awesome views of the city is just awesome.

Here are some pictures and a video i shot with my phone, Enjoy!
P.S. If your interested in joining us or have an idea for spot to hike and operate, let us know.

Hello All
We have a new meeting place in Diamond Bar! This is a great place for discussing our club business with room for 30 people. For those that can’t make the drive we have a conference phone available. I will send out the phone number on request for those that would like to join in from a remote location. Also if you know anyone who would like to give a talk on anything radio or communication related, this is a great place for that also. We already have a few ideas in the works.

So come on and join us. The place is at the AQMD building in Diamond Bar, 21825 Copley Drive. The Date and time: Nov. 4, 6PM.
As you walk in the front door turn left we will be in the first room on the right just past the restrooms.
