This was such a beautiful post — I met my husband working at Vroman’s and feel heartbroken every time a bookstore closes. It’s in these precious stores where we find such joy, hope–even ourselves. I found that working here. And I continue to find that shopping here. Thanks for the post — what a sweet way to start my day!

What a great post! I never realized how important bookstores really are to a community, until you can’t find them anymore. As much as I love the internet, and all the streaming media technology, there is an important role a neighborhood bookstore provides. I’ve spent many nights studying and working on assignments at bookstores, coffee shops providing me the caffeine boost needed to finish 10 page essays. I’m just grateful Vroman’s is still standing their ground!

I recommend one of the titles on the list. The Immortal Game is a great read. It was a game that was played during a break of the first international game in 1851 between Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritsky.
