Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced the launch of the all-new 2010 GTI via the App Store by making available a free version of the popular Firemint Real Racing game that exclusively features the all-new 2010 GTI. This is the first time an automotive manufacturer has used the App Store to launch a new vehicle. Volkswagen Announces September Sales Totals

Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported September 2009 sales of 17,358 total units, representing a 1.5 percent increase over the same time period in 2008. Building off of the success enjoyed in August of this year, which stemmed from the U.S. government’s Car Allowance Rebate System / ‘Cash-for-Clunkers’ program, Volkswagen enjoyed strong sales with a number of different models. The sleek and sporty CC led the charge with sales of 2,290 units, making for a 15.6 percent increase over August, and the model’s second best sales month ever. The Jetta sedan and SportWagen, proved once again to be popular choices for Volkswagen buyers with sales of 9,568 units posted for the month. Via media.vw.com

Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported August 2009 sales of 24,823 units representing an increase of 11.4 percent over August 2008.The government sponsored Car Allowance Rebate System, otherwise known as Cash for Clunkers, helped Volkswagen post its best sales month since December 2005. With a full model range of fuel efficient and fun-to-drive vehicles Volkswagen was well positioned for the program.

Volkswagen of America’s volume model, the Jetta, also posted its best sales month since December 2005 with 12,872 total units. Volkswagen’s versatile compact Sport Utility Vehicle, the Tiguan, posted strong August sales results with 1,750 units. Maybe that wheel is slightly off after they rotated and balanced the wheels at the 80k. These kind of problems are notoriously difficult to diagnose however, because you’ve got what the owner is hearing and experiencing versus what the mechanic experiences when he/she checks it out. So the guys set out to check the balance on the wheel, swap the tires to another side, and run some drive tests to see if they could hear the sound as well. Nothing. You never know with these types of things. :D

So I drop by after work to pick up the ol’ GTI expecting to pay at least an hour of labor for their time. Nope. Nada. Zip. Free. Mike and Chad stand by their work. This is great because my wife and I can’t necessarily afford another small bill at the moment, what with the economy and all.

So thanks again guys! Keep up the great work. Oh yeah, while driving home I didn’t really notice the sound anymore, so they may have caught the problem while doing the tests and rebalancing. Or maybe I was just crazier than usual when I heard the sound. Anywho, w00t!

Volkswagen Group Reports 6.7 Percent Growth in Worldwide Deliveries in July

The Volkswagen Group again reported an increase in worldwide deliveries in July, the third successive month of growth. Despite the continuing difficult situation on global automotive markets, Europe’s largest automaker recorded 6.7 percent growth, with deliveries totaling 556,900 (July 2008: 521,100) units*. This means that 3.65 (January – July 2008: 3.79; -3.5 percent)** million vehicles were delivered to customers during the first seven months of this year. The Volkswagen Group therefore continues to perform significantly better than the overall market, which declined by roughly 16 percent during this period. Via media.vw.com

It is with great sadness that we make this announcement. I just found out this morning that Chris passed away recently from a two year battle with cancer. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. In the short time that we knew Chris, he was a wonderful, vibrant enthusiast with not only Volkswagen but even with life it seemed. Clean Diesel Continues to Fuel Volkswagen’s July Sales

Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced July 2009 sales of 20,590 units, representing a 0.7 percent increase over July 2008. Volkswagen’s award winning clean diesels, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, and Touareg TDI, once again posted their best sales month since their re-launch with 6,320 units — accounting for more than 30 percent of total sales. The Jetta SportWagen for the third consecutive month posted its best sales month ever with sales of 2,415 units; clean diesel TDIs represented 81 percent of SportWagen sales, and 40 percent of Jetta sedan sales. Volkswagen Group Generates €1.2 Billion Operating Profit in First Half of 2009

In the first half of 2009, the Volkswagen Group extended its global competitive position and strengthened its financial base. In the first six months of the year, Europe’s largest automobile manufacturer delivered 3.1 million (H1 2008: 3.3 million) vehicles worldwide. Although the overall market contracted by around 18 percent, Group deliveries decreased by only 4.4 percent. Consequently, its share of the global passenger car market rose to 12.0 percent (9.9 percent). Sales revenue declined by 9.4 percent to €51.2 billion (€56.5 billion) in the first six months due to volume-related factors. Operating profit amounted to €1.2 billion (€3.4 billion), of which €928 million is attributable to the seasonally strong second quarter.
