New Computer

There is a new computer at Eunomia, for our common enjoyment. Connect to it in the same way you do with the GIS machine with the .rdp file Simon is sending out (talk to Simon if you have problems). It is for Visio 2010 and Office 2010 use, and will ease some of the contention for the GIS machine.

Some waste statistics definitions

Here are some definitions of waste statistics that I found useful

Participation rate – the number of households who set out their container(s) at least once in three consecutive collection opportunities as a percentage of the total number of households provided with the service.

Recognition rate – the amount of a targeted material collected from participating households as a percentage of the total amount of the targeted material available per participating household in the programme.

Set-out rate – the number of households who participate on any given collection day as a percentage of the total number of households served during that day.

Coverage – the number of households in an authority provided with the kerbside collection service (this will not include flats or multiple occupancy dwellings that are provided with a different type of collection) as a percentage of the total number of households in the authority.

Yield, or the amount of recyclable material collected by a particular collection scheme can be calculated as follows and is expressed as kg/household/yr:

Yield = %coverage x %participation x %recognition x weight of material available for recycling (kg) Number of households in authority

HP laptop touchbar problem

Problem: HP laptop has a touchbar. Sometimes it malfunctions - for example the volume or the help icon flashes.

The solution to it is as follows:

Shut it down, remove the power cable and the battery from the laptop.

Then hold down the power button for 20 seconds.
Put back the battery and power cable, start the laptop and enter the BIOS, by pressing F10 - you should then have an option for restore defaults - select this option

This will set the hardware setup back to factory status. You can then launch the laptop as normal

right click on the cell you want to format, select format, go to custom format and put the above line in there. Note that you can ctrl-c to copy it and then ctrl-v to paste it into the format dialog box
