In the series of books I’m reading one of the main characters keeps nibbling on glazed almonds.  Of course I am now sitting here with glazed pecans (I like them better) and some wasabi and soy sauce almonds.

Between work and running around, preparing for the holiday and shopping for the gifts and decorating and wrapping I’m plumb wore out.

Excited, though.  I really kind of overdid it and splurged this year on everyone.

Taylor and I got Nook Tablets for our birthdays.  (His is today. Happy Birthday, Honey! and mine is Saturday)  The kid got a PS3, my parents got a new TV and everyone got scads of smaller stuff.  It’s been fun but, as always when I spend money on stuff that is frivolous, I feel guilt.  Weird, eh?  Who feels guilt over buying gifts?  This is what Catholic grade school does to your children, people.  Send them to public school, PLEASE!

I’m also excited because I have some time off for both Christmas and New Years.  I took Friday/Monday off both weeks so this week I have a four day work week, next week three, then the following week four again.  Two four day weekends in a row?  Hells yes. I can’t wait.  I wish we could sneak away and do something romantic — and we may, yet, for New Years — but so far plans are for quiet, at home time.

Anyhow…

Things here are busy as always.  Taylor is cranky pants cuz he hates his birthday and isn’t a huge holiday person but he indulges me cuz he loves me.  The kid is a little cranky cuz his grandma on his dad’s side is evil incarnate and has ruined Christmas Day for him and his dad for the second year in a row.  I’m a little cranky cuz I’m really struggling with my thyroid issues lately.  But, overall, we’re a happy cranky — if that makes sense.

I guess it’s part of being together for a long time. Taylor and I celebrate a decade in March there is definitely something to be said for longevity in a relationship.  There’s just this bond that a little cranky can’t mess up.

And?  Did I mention two four day weekends?  heh.

I did, however, write 17 posts which is way better than the 12 I wrote the rest of the year.

That’s okay, though. It’s been a busy year for life.

I’ve been blogging since September of 2005 so I’m okay with having times when I have very little to say.  I’ve also been sick since Nov 8th — I KNOW!  It sucks! — so even feeling gung ho and committed, I just haven’t had the energy.

On a cool note, I just ordered two Nook Tablets the other day, one for me and one for Taylor, and they should be here early next week.  I’m kicking myself for forgetting I could just, DUH, go to the store and buy them instead of ordering online and having to wait but it’s too late to change it now.  I’m insanely excited to get them. They’re my birthday present to us (we both have birthdays later this month) and we’ve both been wanting an ebook reader and a tablet for awhile now so it’s going to be awesome.  I have this visual in my head of us both curled up in bed, surfing, reading, toes touching.

Ahhh.  Modern romance.

And now?  Time for some tea with honey and lemon and bed.  Happy December, everyone.

Some bits of tid since I have nothing else today:

• I woke up sicker than I was yesterday.  It feels like this flu was running it’s course and decided to go in a circle and start back at the beginning.  I just want to cry and cry.
• I somehow managed to get on the Top 100 Sex Bloggers list again. I have no idea how or why but I thank whomever nom nom nom’d me and Rori for taking the time every year to compile the list.
• There is only one episode of Sons of Anarchy left and I’m depressed over it
• X Factor USA is on tonight and I’m doubting I’ll make it up long enough to watch it, which also depressing.
• Those two bits make it seem like I watch a ton of tv but I really don’t.
• I made a big pot of pea soup the other day and have only eaten one bowl. Just not feeling it this time. What a waste!
• My shoulder still hurts from when I fell in the tub a couple weeks ago. Doesn’t that just figure?
• I also still have a bruise on my calf from when I dumped the bike in June.  I’m starting to think my thyroid issues are seriously fucking with my immune system cuz I’m just not healing or getting well like I used to.
• I’m really, really tempted to order a Nook today.
• I wish I had a fireplace.
• I’m tempted to go buy an electric fireplace.
• I also want ice cream or a slushie to make my throat feel better. Preferably a slushie cuz I don’t like ice cream

I don’t have a radio on the bike and it’s illegal to use an iPod so I tend to sing to myself.  I don’t know any whole songs so my singing sounds a lot like one of those late night informercials for 80s Love Ballads or Rock Classics from the 70s. Never more than a line or chorus or two and all run together in snippets of crazy, tone deaf…  well, craziness. Sometimes I even find myself singing Barney songs.

It’s ridiculous but amusing.

I tend to sing this song whenever we go through areas that have a lot of houses that all look the same, subdivisions full of mini castles.

Gods, I miss riding already.

I’m half tempted to bundle up and take the Rebel out for a putter this weekend if it decides it wants to run.  (It’s the only bike we haven’t parked yet and it’s too small for me but I’m not sure I care at this point.)

When you are feeling miserable and empty and sad and needy, chances are very good you are also thinking, primarily, only of yourself.

Times of extreme selfishness generally tend to cause extreme misery.

Stop.

Do something.  Get out of your head and into your life. Stop focusing on the me, me, me, want, want, need, need, don’t have, want, woe, me, me memememememmee and focus on the stuff in your life that is good, those in your life who may need you, strangers who have real fucking problems like no food in their refrigerator or no heat in their home, something, anything but yourself for a few days.

I’m still sick, actually.  This is the longest freaking flu I’ve had in…  I dunno.  It just feels like I’ve been sick for an eternity. I guess it’s really only been a week.  The sucky thing is I don’t feel much better yet.

This weekend I pretty much slept.  And slept some more. And slept.  I didn’t have a cup of coffee, at all, from around 9 am Friday until like 4 pm Sunday.  Even since then I’ve only had a couple cups.  Black tea with milk and honey is going down a lot better and eases my sore throat at the same time — all while preventing caffeine withdrawal headaches, too.

(My throat, btw, feels like it is full of glass shards but, on the plus side, since I quit smoking, my sputum is nice and clear and not full of icky tar and gross stuff. It’s a lovely shade of yellow/green without a single brown or dark fleck.  Tmi?)

I also read four books this weekend.  I’m hooked on the Left Behind series — which is embarrassing but, damn it, they’re good!  I cannot wait to get an actual Nook.  I’m using the laptop and my iPhone right now and I feel like I can read SO fast. My brain just eats up the words at a pace that is almost ridiculous.  I can only imagine how enjoyable it’ll be on a screen twice the size.

That is…  about all I have.  babble babble nothing blather.  I’m really hoping I start feeling better soon cuz my incessant whining is boring even me.
