The Design Republic Commune, envisions itself as a design hub, a gathering space for designers and design patrons alike to admire, ponder, exchange, learn, and consume. It houses the new flagship store for Design Republic, a modern furniture retailer, alongside a mixture of design-focused retail concepts, including books, fashion, lighting, accessories and flowers. The Commune will also have a design gallery, an event space, a café, a restaurant (by Michelin-Starred Chef Jason Atherton) + a one-bedroom Design Republic apartment.
The Design Republic Commune, se décrit comme une plateforme, un centre d'affaire du design, une espace de rencontre destiné aux designers et mécènes pour partager, échanger, admirer, apprendre, réfléchir. Cet endroit héberge aussi le nouveau magasin phare de Design Republic, revendeur de mobilier, au milieu d'un mélange de concepts de lieux de vente à 'approche design, avec des livres, de la mode, des luminaires, accessoires et fleurs. La Commune aura aussi une gallerie de design, un espace dédié aux évènements, un café et un restaurant (par le chef étoilé au Michelin Jason Atherton) + un appartement une chambre Design Republic.

Situated within the historic relic of the Police Headquarters built by the British in the 1910s, the project takes a surgical approach to renovation.
First, gently removing the decaying wood and plaster, then carefully restoring the still vibrant red brickwork, while grafting on skin, joints, and organs onto parts that needed reconstruction.
And finally with the attachment of a brand new appendage which, like a prosthetic, enables the existing building to perform new functions, the nearly abandoned building begins its life again.
Situé dans la zone historique du quartier général de la police à Shangai, construit par les Britanniques dans les annéees 1910, le projet s'est donné la peine d'une rénovation quasi chirurgicale du bâtiment.
D'abord retirer le bois et le plâtre délabré, puis rénover avec précaution la brique rouge encore vivante, tout en greffant sur la peau des articulations, des organes sur les endroits qui nécessitait reconstruction.
Pour finir avec une toute nouvelle appendice, comme une prothèse, permettant au bâtiment de nouvelles fonctions... le bâtiment presque abandonné retrouve une deuxième jeunesse.

Neri&Hu introduced a modern glassy insertion onto the brick façade. To accentuate the historic nature of the main building, the street level periphery is enveloped by transparent glazing to reveal the existing brickwork and rough concrete structures.

Various small and precise incisions have been made in the interior architecture to reveal the building’s history and integrity. The modern white rooms are juxtaposed with untouched remnants of brick walls, and in some cases, exposed wood laths underneath crumbling plaster walls.
The clear intentionality behind juxtaposing the old and the new to create a visually and spatially balance.
Very very well done.
De petites incisions précises et variées ont été faites à l'intérieur pour révéler l'intégrité et lle caractère historique du bâtiment. Les grandes pièces blanches contemporaines cotoient et se frottent à des vestiges de morceaux de brique, et dans certains cas de bois mis à nu derrière des parties de plâtre qui s'effritent.
Intention claire derrière le fait de juxtaposer l'ancien et le contemporain pour créer un équilibre visuel et spatial.
Très très bien fait.

my favorite of the moment : these brand new three-dimensional lights designed by Sara Bernardi for CON.TRATITION / graphic, thin, perfect style !
Still haven't find where to buy them but I will keep you posted, cause I want them !

I have a crush for this original Achile Castiglioni - Parentesi (Flos) ; I think it will be my next buy ! 225 EUR in every good light shop. In red of course !
