Ladies Callaway Drivers

The new FT-9 driver is Callaway's newest model. This driver was made to expand the success of the FT-3 and FT-5 models by giving you even more distance. But it comes at a hefty $399.

If you're looking to save a few dollars then the FT-3 and FT-5 are good choices. The FT-5 has three center of gravity configurations. So you want to choose accordingly. If you have a fade then buy the FT-5 Driver that produces a fade. If you have a draw then buy the FT-5 Driver that produces a draw. If you have a neutral swing, then buy the FT-5 neutral Driver. Both the FT-3 and FT-5 are forgiving and will add distance to your game.

Another good choice in ladies used Callaway drivers is the FT-Ι. What Callaway did with this driver is position the weight to the extreme corners of the clubhead which makes this club very forgiving. It was also designed for increased ball speed and distance.

And let's not forget about the Womens Big Bertha Driver. With a longer shaft and the weight positioned in the center, this club was designed for one thing - to hit long tee shots.

The loft of these drivers range from 9° to 13°.

What is loft? The general presumption is that the lower the loft of the driver, the further you will hit the ball. It keeps the ball low and therefore you will get more roll on the ball.

However, during a recent study the following was true: At a club speed of 65 and 75 mph, the 13° loft or above was longest and the 9° loft was shortest; at 85 through 115 mph, the 11° was longest.

So what does all this mean? Nothing for some and everything for others. If you are using a 9° loft driver and are satisfied with the results then continue playing with that club. However, if you aren't getting distance then do yourself a favor and add loft.

Ladies Callaway Drivers

The first thought when thinking of Callaway is Big Bertha Woods. However Callaway is quickly becoming a leader in wedges. Their lead designer Roger Cleveland, founder of Cleveland Golf, joined Callaway in 1996. Since then he has designed the X-14 wedges in 2000 and the forged wedges in 2002. The Callaway X-Forged wedges are his latest design.

It's fun hitting full shots with the X-Forged wedges. Depending on your lie, you can hit the ball high or low with pinpoint accuracy. This club is very versatile and lets you shape your own shot. Distance is very consistent and works well from tight lies, rough and bunkers. I've found that full fairway shots end up approximately 5 feet from the divot.

Do you have a problem stopping the ball on the green? With the X-Forged Wedge even when chipping around the green the ball will check up. Even a miss-hit has enough spin to check up and not roll off the green.

The grooves and face hold up well through endless practice sessions compared to other named clubs like Taylormade wedges.

The X-Forged Wedges come in Vintage or Chrome. A lot of tour golfers like the vintage look which will rust in time but gives you that sound and feel inherent in the metal.

Depending on the turf conditions and what's best for your swing, choose from 56° through 64° models.

Callaway X-Forged Wedges

I will review two  Callaway Drivers that you can probably buy used or should I say preowned.

The FT-I Driver is a little unconventional in that it is square. The reason for the square design is to help golfers straighten out their drive and give them more accuracy. Callaway used lightweight carbon composite with this club putting the weight of the clubhead in the corners. What this does is raise the moment of inertia (MOI) which keeps the clubhead from turning. It also gives the club a large sweetspot. You'll also find additional weight in the heel of the club which helps square the face at impact. Miss-hit shots still will go straight.  

The Mens FT-I Driver comes in three models - Neutral, Draw and Fade. With the Draw and Fade the weight distribution in the clubhead is changed to help you correct your slice or hook accordingly.

The FT-IQ Driver boosts ball speed for longer drives. No need to do a lot of thinking with this club. Address the ball, swing and watch your ball go long and straight. This is probably the longest and straightest mens driver Callaway ever produced. The titanium face with an X pattern behind the hitting area delivers consistant ball speed across the face so near misses go almost as far as solid hits. A lightweight composite body puts the center of gravity more to the rear than the FT-I resulting in less backspin.

The Callaway FT-IQ Mens Driver has lofts ranging from 9° to 13°. The Ft-IQ Tour Driver has 8.5° and 9.5° lofts.

Mens Callaway Drivers

Some of you might remember him from the 2007 Open Golf Championship at Carnoustie when he fired an opening round three under par 68 as an Amateur.

Rory represented Europe in the winning Junior Ryder Cup team in 2004, before becoming the youngest winner of the prestigious West of Ireland and Irish Close Championships in 2005. The following year he successfully retained both Irish amateur titles and in August 2006 he won the European Amateur Championship.

Rory's maiden victory came in the 2009 Dubai Desert Classic where he endured a nail-biting final hole and ultimately beat Justin Rose to the title by one shot.

If he wins this week's Dubai World Championship, he will become the second-youngest order of merit winner behind Seve Ballesteros who did it at age 19.

He will be joining the US Golf Tour next season. He said that he wants to challenge himself against the likes of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

He currently ranks in the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings which has assured him a coveted place in the 2009 Masters Tournament at Augusta in April.

Hip Hop and Funky House are his favorite types of music. On his time off from the golf tour, he enjoys hanging out with his mates, playing tennis and football and enjoying a ride in his new Ferrari 430.

Rory McIllroy goal for 2010 is to have a world golf ranking in the top 5.

Getting more out of your Golf Drive

It all the started on the 14^th hole when he missed a putt he normally would make in pressure situations, especially in a major tournament.

As the camera panned in on his face you could see a shaken, frustrated man. He never recovered after that putt.

Normally Tiger is cool, calm and collective. Usually you would see a little bit of anger on his face after missing a putt, followed by intense determination. That uncanny ability he has to block everything out except the task at hand was no where to be found.

Not on this Sunday at a major tournament. All I saw was a golfer going through the motions. For some reason, that determination or will power he always seems to possess was not with him late in the final round.

Instead, a relatively unknown named Y.E.Yang pulled off the shot of the golf tournament on the 18^th hole putting his second shot 8 feet from the pin. Isn't that kind of shot reserved only for Tiger Woods? After all, time and time again we see Tiger make miraculous shots when the tournament is on the line.

It caught me totally by surprise!! This time the other guy made the miraculous shot.

Does this mean Tiger Woods lost his drive and determination? Ridiculous!! All it means is that he is human. Tiger is still the greatest golfer in the world and is sure to win many more major championships. It was, however, a new experience. One I'm sure he will use to his advantage.

A New Experience For Golfer Tiger Woods

What he's doing will create a desire like no other for the older generation. On Monday go to the nearest driving range and I'll guarantee you'll find it packed with silver haired folk hitting ball after ball. Just be careful when you bend over to tee it up, gentlemen.

He's proven that you are never too old to play the game of Golf and to play it competitively. His swing doesn't look any different than it did when he won the Open Championship in 1977. Truly amazing.

So what do you really need to do to play good golf in your 50's and beyond? I'd say eat nutritiously, exercise and practice. The same old formula that you've heard about, read about and watched on television for the past 30 years.

Good luck and take it slow as you go.

Tom Watson – An Inspiration To All

If you happen to be a slicer, more times than not your shoulders are open because your ball position is too far forward which also creates a weak golf grip.

To check it, using a 7 iron, set up for your normal shot then stand up from your posture lifting the club from the ground straight out, arms extended. This will tell you where the club is pointed. If the club is pointed to the left that means the ball is positioned too far forward.

What you want to do is set up with your feet together with the ball in the middle. Then take one step forward with your front foot and one step backward with your rear foot.

Then slightly move back so the ball is positioned slightly forward in your stance. Now  stand up from your posture again lifting the club straight out. Now the club should be pointed in the center showing you that you have a good ball position.

Once you establish that good ball position, move your right shoulder slightly back to feel that they're square or slightly closed.

This should help eliminate your golf slice.

How to Cure a Golf Slice

With your golf stance you want to make sure your weight is distributed evenly. You don't want too much weight on the left foot or too much weight on the right foot.

The width of your stance should be just outside of your shoulders.

The ball position should be off of the instep of your left foot.

Your shoulders and upper body should be aligned properly. What I mean by that is that your head should be slightly behind the golf ball. To insure that this happens, your shoulders should be on a slight tilt where your left shoulder is a little higher than your right.

Tee the ball up where the ball is slightly higher than the center of the golf face on your Driver.

Some golfers tee the ball up high possibly to correct from topping the ball. That isn't the answer. Tee it up as suggested above and bend over slightly to correct your posture and that should fix the problem of topping the ball.

Other golfers tee the ball low to compensate for hitting underneath the golf ball. Again that isn't the answer. Maybe what you simply need to do is lift your chin up.

Follow this golf tip and you should hit the ball straight.

How To Set Up Your Driver Properly

They've lost 2 sponsors this year and I believe three more will follow. Also contracts with 11 other sponsors will expire at the end of the year. Only time will tell if they renew. Why the powers that be didn't stagger those sponsors' contracts over a period of years is beyond me.

Corning pulled the plug after 31 years of sponsoring the Corning Classic due to a loss of profits. If an institution like Corning pulls the plug, how many other sponsors will follow?

The LPGA is also having leadership problems. Seven of their top executives have resigned. Players are concerned that the leaders are going in the wrong direction.

A bright note is the contract with J Golf, the tour's new South Korean TV partner. I believe they are going to sponsor an LPGA event in Los Angeles.

Another bright spot is the long term deal with the Golf channel. Whether this will help the LPGA remains to be seen.

How many people will tune into a tournament if the leaderboard is loaded with Asian players.  Americans have a hard time putting the names with the faces.

Can you put a face with the following names: Yani Tseng, Jiyai Shin, In-Kyung Kim, Ji Young Oh. You probably can't. They are in the top 10 in money leaders on the tour.

I'm sure Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel, and Natalie Gulbis are familiar faces.

I have no doubt that the LPGA will survive but I think you will see fewer tournaments in the USA and more in overseas countries. I also think you'll see less in prize money.
