Blogging to many is just a way to post to people an update of their lives and for many it is dream to achieve an additional recurring income online. Step 4:

Once on the website, you will have to fill details necessary to create an account. There is charge per tweet, which need not be changed. Choose category - General, ad unit type - either and provide the tags

The suggested price based on your Twitter stats and hence need not be changed. Also, click on payout guarantee which means that your tweet does not reach a $1.50 CPC, it will be re-tweeted 48 hours later. You will be paid for this tweet as soon as it reaches a $1.50 CPC, or 2 hours after it is tweeted 3 times.

The fact is that you will still be paid the initial offer amount for all offers, but with this option enabled, you will be much more attractive to advertisers.

Once the details filled you would have successfully signed up.

This website also has a list of Featured tweeters who user sponsored tweets and the list is sure attractive.

Once all this is done all we got to do is wait for offers from the advertisers, which you can choose to get intimated through DM or mail.

This morning as usual I pick up my newspaper, a cup of coffee, switch on the computer, open my twitter account and was in for a pleasant surprise.

A new feature that has been offered to a select few and I wondered why would I be one among the selected few. There it was, a surprising note on my twitter account mentioning about something new and I being privileged to receive the note.

Well, the surprise is where I find a small note in my twitter account which read

This was an interesting note and this fueled my inquisitiveness. I wanted to know what it was and I started scouting the internet for answer and this is what I found, Twitter begins List beta

The understanding that I got was that the twitter list was a tool provided to the tweeple to organize their favourite tweeps into a group. This is a great feature considering there are a lot of people in your following list and you need to track tweets of a specific few. So this day began with knowledge gathering and executing tasks. I understood a lot about the new twitter feature for lists and though would be right to impart my knowledge to the mass.

The note that I mentioned about was as below, please note the sentence which says “You’re part of a small group receiving this feature, so don’t tweet about it yet!”. So I am not tweeting about it as yet, there was not mention of blog posts though.

The illustrations that follow are the ones which teach you about twitter lists, creating lists and adding users to these lists.

Create a new list

Click on the create new list on your twitter home page, provide a list name, choose whether this list will be public or private and then click on create list.

Adding users to the list

There are three ways you can add people to your list

1. Find people to add to your list

Once your find the person you want to add in your list you add the person by choosing the list in the drop down.

2. Add people from your Following page to your list

3. Add people from their profile page to your list

A writer’s block or a blogger’s block is a condition affecting the creativity of a person. A blogger is a writer and he/she needs the creative inclination to deliver the best works.

There are a fair number of times I’ve been hit by a writer’s block and I can understand the pain involved. The pain of being unable to do the daily task (writing) effectively. A writer’s block has many causes and this has been written in the past titled Writers block, worst enemy of a blogger.

In this post, we will see the various tasks that helped me through the writers block. These are tasks that I did day on day through the days I was experiencing a block. Most often it is the symptoms that go unnoticed and many don’t even realize that they are having a blogger’s block. It has been sometime since a post was rolled out on this blog and was until now wondering what should be written. It was a sudden and unexpected realization that an article on the very same condition that disallowed me to write an article is the best bet.

So, here it is the list of tasks that can be taken up to beat the mental block causing trouble. These are the tasks that I have been doing and can stand by these to overcome your writers block.

Outside your blog:

• Read articles and blog posts - There are a number of blogs and article websites on the internet on varied subjects. Choose blog posts and articles on your niche and read them. This not only helps you beat the time but also act as an inspiration for the blog posts you want to write.
• Write down ideas - The time when under a writer’s block is when you will not want to step near your computer. At these times it isn’t necessary that you will not have any ideas. These ideas should be written down in a journal for future reference. These ideas will sure help to write articles.
• Collect pictures - Pictures are important to a blog post to reduce the monotony of looking at words and to increase eye appeal. This being the case, there cannot be a better time for you to collect pictures for your blog posts.
• Be active on Social Media - As a blogger we know how important it is to start a network around your blog. This helps in branding and fan following. Take the time available and increase your foot print on the social networks.
• Write guest posts - It is true that we would want the best for ourselves and that is the case for articles as well. The best works come through at the peak of creativity. During a writers block although you are able to write articles, these are not even close to your best works. Use this time as an opportunity to write articles to submit as guests posts in other blogs.

Within your blog:

• Reply to Comments and Mails - It is important for bloggers to reply to comments and mails that are sent across. The reason for this is to ensure that every fan of your blog is made to feel important and this will induce them to write more comments and mails.
• Build links on old posts - Internal links are an important factor for increasing page views. There could have been many follow up posts and posts on a same topic. Look at ways to links these posts with good anchor texts.
• Follow-up posts - Now is when you also can write follow up posts for your old posts. Follow up posts are nothing but articles that are written in continuation to a previous posts which can have recent developments, newer trends, etc.
• Improve your blog - There are a lot of blog improvement that can be taken up during a writer’s block. These tasks include SEO strategies, Monetization, navigation, changing themes if needed, tweaking the look and feel of the blog and many more.

These are the various tasks that can be taken up when having a blogger’s block. These tasks helps us to do something useful and not be rusted.

It was 17th September 2008, when this blog was published for the first time and today this blog marks one year completion online.

It has been a wonderful journey with a lot of ups and downs. There has been a lot since this blog inception which has not gone well and there have been learning through this.

The Journey!!

After a whole year of blogging on UnoBlogger.com (there had been a few off months). There were a lot of mistakes committed and learnings had through the mistake. Blogging to me started as an experiment with World Cuisines, where I just wanted to have a blog for me to learn internet. This blog was started on Nov 2007. This blog on recipes of the world, allowed me to learn lots and as every day passed I was learning something new.

I never knew HTML or CSS or PHP or MySql or any of the technicalities that were needed to self host your own blog. Day by day I was wanting to have my own self hosted blog and day by day I was getting restless for this want. And finally on 15th September 2008, I registered for Domain and Hosting and the next two days set up the blog. Initially I just set the blog up which was more crude and then over time I tweaked the blog to give better appeal and usability.

On 27th July 2009, there came change in the look and feel of UnoBlogger.com. This change was very important in terms of the blogs development. This changed marked the whole new UnoBlogger.com with better eye appeal and a better navigation. This date also saw many other changes in terms of the plugins used, the templates. etc.

How was the feeling?

The journey has been wonderful teaching me many important aspects of blogging, promoting a blog, designing and what not. There is a sense of satisfaction of having achieved something that I never thought possible.

The journey has been tough and has been with a lot of learnings. There is more there is to learn and more to achieve. These 365 days has taught me an important lesson, “There is no shortcut to anything and it takes a lot of hardwork to get anywhere”

What next?

The journey so far has been tremendous and it sure is going to become even better. There is a hunch that there are going to be better blog posts, better content and most importantly better tips on blogging.

As a blogger we would have understood that social media and social networking is a great tool to drive traffic to your blog. There are counters and buttons that you include in your blog posts like the twit this button, tweetmeme button, digg counter, stumbleupon buttons, reddit counter, etc.

On your right on this blog post you will see a box that has four major traffic drivers’ buttons and they are

Tweetmeme button - This is a button that helps to retweet your blog post on twitter. This has proven to be a viral method considering there are over 25 million twitter users. This button helps you submit your blog post to twitter and the same will be retweeted by your followers on twitter.

Digg Counter - Digg is a social bookmarking and social news website, where people share news and events across the website. The Digg button helps visitors to your blog submit the blog post to Digg with ease.

Reddit Counter - Reddit is also a social news website for the people sharing news and events on the internet. This button too helps the visitors in making the submission of your blog post easy.

Stumbleupon Button - StumbleUpon is an internet community that allows users to discover and rate websites, articles, images and videos. This button too helps simplify the process of submitting your blog post to StumbleUpon.

All the buttons except StumbleUpon’s are counters too, which means that you can have a count of the number of times your blog post or article is Dugg, Retweeted, Reddit submitted.

Twitter is undoubtedly the best in terms of traffic driving capabilities. Social bookmarking also is a great driver of traffic. There are three major social bookmarking sites that take the cake and they are Digg, Reddit and Stumbleupon. This is not to underestimate the other websites, but this is a fact that isn’t contested.

This sort of a counter is absolutely necessary considering that you want traffic to your blog and you want your blog post to go viral. These counters or buttons helps the visitors do just that, increase traffic.

To add these buttons to your blog posts you need to follow these two steps.

Step 1

Add the below CSS to your Stylesheet page, it will be name style.css. Once you open the stylesheet go to the end of the sheet and paste the below code as is.

A WordPress theme is a file that holds the looks and feel of a WordPress blog. Each theme is having a group of layouts. The layouts are simply the structure of a page in the theme.

There are many types of layouts and these are listed in this article for your understanding. The layouts listed below are not the only layouts available, there are many more. Only the important ones are being listed here for your understanding.

Single Column:

Three Column Layout:

Even the sidebars can be placed both on the right or the left and the other way would be to have a sidebar each in both sides of the content.

Four Column Layout:

This is another rare layout which can have four evenly spaced columns or two wider columns for content and two leaner columns as sidebars.

This layout isn’t that popular for a simple fact that the website looks cramped with data and the reading becomes tougher.

Photoblog or Gallery Layout:

Popular among photographers and designers alike, this layout is specifically designed to showcase the works of designers. This is full of images which can be pictures of photographers or logos and webdesigns by the designers.

There can be no text or very little text in content. These content are typically contained in thumbnails and would give the visitor the full view of the work once the thumbnail is clicked.

These are not the only types of layouts as mentioned earlier. There are many more layouts available on the net for free. The other types of layouts just to list them are, five column layout, ecommerce layout, classifieds layouts, magazine style layouts, etc.,

Template files are files that are the foundation for any blog. These are files which are referenced for the blog functionality. Every theme will have template files and we need to understand the template files better for us to be the best judge while choosing a theme for our blog.

A blog is built on various functionality, these can range from a simple layout of a blog to a more robust search option on the blog. What ever be the function to be performed, it is these template files that do the job.

These template files can be found on the right on a theme editor dashboard in your WordPress admin page.

The main template files are listed below with a brief on what they are, this is not an exhaustive list. Apart from the ones listed below, there can be additional files in a theme. These files can be anyother style sheets (CSS), images pertaining to the template and other files.

Style.css: This is a file which contains the style sheet (CSS - Cascading Style Sheet), in other words the sketch of your blog. This file defines the look and feel of your blog from the font to be used, the size and colour of the headings/titles, how the tables will appear, how the links will be, etc.

index.php: This is the main template file for your blog. This file defines the functionality of the blog, what comes first and what next.

home.php: This is the homepage template which defines the files that will be one the blog’s homepage.

Single.php: This is the template for single posts, defining how the post will appear on a single page.

Page.php: You can have as many pages on your blog like, about page sitemap page, archives page, etc,. This is the template for pages defining how the pages will appear on the blog.

category.php: Categories are sub divisions of subjects on a blog. This is the template for category indexes.

author.php: This is the template used to seggregate all posts by a certain author

comments.php: This is the template file which defines how the comments will be handled on the blog.

date.php: This template is used to look date specific seggregation on posts on a blog.

archive.php: This template will be used alongwith the category.php, author.php or date.php. This lists all the posts either date wise, month wise or year wise as defined by the blog owner.

search.php: This is the file that is used for searches on the blog, This is an important file to look in your themes.

404.php: 404 is an error that occurs when there is a broken link or someone searches for some posts that have been removed for some reason. This too is a very important template file to have.

Login to your phpMyAdmin using your SQL Database username and password.

Once logged in, you will find a drop down menu. Find your blog’s database and choose the same.

Once you’ve chosen the database, the tables in your database will appear on the screen. Scroll down to fine wp_users and click on browse.

Step 4

Once you click on browse in your wp_users database, you will be shown the users on this blog. Scroll down to the ID which says user_login as admin. Once there click on edit button, the edit button will appear as a pencil logo

Step 5

Once clicked on edit, you will be taken to a page that appears as below. Here the second field user_login will have admin under the value column. Change this from admin to anything you prefer.

Step 6

Once donw with the change save and click go on the page.

There we have changed the WordPress user from the default admin to something we prefer. This is one way to ensure your WordPress blog is one step secure than it was.

In this method of changing the WordPress username, all you are doing is changing the name as it appears from the default “admin” to some other name.

Another google search operator, when used will return results from the specific website. For example: If you include site:problogger.net in your query, Google will return your search results to the site or domain you specify. All the image results will be from problogger.net.

The last month has seen some changes in the number of followers in twitter. My twitter account @unoblogger has seen some peaks and dips in the number of twitter followers in the past.

I tried finding about the drop in the number of twitter followers and there were any discussions on the same. The reason stated for the dip in twitter followers is the removal of spam accounts created on twitter. This can be a reason is what I felt and went across to the twitter help forum.

This is what was written by a twitter employee in response to a query raised by someone on the blocking and unblocking of followers.

If you see, the twitter employee has mentioned that people will see a dip in twitter follower count owing to the removal of spam accounts.

This is good for many reasons and is necessary for some of the reasons like having the Twitter world free from spammers, genuine users, database having more space for twitter, etc.

For many people networking is something they have been doing and the sudden drop in the number of twitter followers may prove to be a demotivator.

Step 6

Once you’ve clicked on the link to confirm activation, you will be taken to a page where you are intimated that your account is now active on WordPress.com.

Step 7

Once you have a confirmation on the account activation, go to WordPress.com and login with the username and the password that you typed while registration.

You will be taken to the admin page of the WordPress account. On the left panel you will see a lot of links and among them you will also see a link “Profile”. Click on that.

Step 8

Once you clicked on the Profile link on the side panel of the WordPress.com admin page, you will be taken to another page where your WordPress.com API key is published to you.

This WordPress API key is like a password for all your blogs. Ensure that this is retained with highest security and please do not share this API key with any one for any reason.

We have heard news of WordPress blogs getting hacked for reasons like a jealousy, hate, advantage. One of the ways to avoid getting hacked in to change your username.

We will in this article look at the step by step procedure to change the deault WordPress username, admin, to some other word. This is necessary cause all of us know that the default username for all WordPress self hosted blogs is “admin”. This is a known fact and this only makes it a lot easier for the hackers in their hacking. Let us look at the process of changing the username.

Step 1

Log into your WordPress blog using your default username and the password that you chose while setting up the blog.

Step 2

One you’ve logged in, look for the users link on your admin page. This link will be there in the top right corner of your admin page (Till WP version 2.6). For WordPress versions greater than 2.6 you will see the users link on the left panel of the admin page.

Step 3

The users link once clicked will take you to a page where you will see the current user details and below that will be a form for you to add new users

Fill in all the details and in the field which says “Role” ensure that the “Administrator” is chosen before you click in Add User button.

Step 4

Once you have created a new user, logout of your admin page. Once logged out, login again and this time with the username and the password you’ve created.

Step 5

Once logged in and in your admin page, click on the users link. This will take you to the users page. This time you will see two users in the list, one the default admin and two the username you created. Choose the username admin with a click of the radio button and Click on the delete button above the table.

Step 6

Once you have run through the steps and deleted the admin username, you will see a confirmation page. This page will ask you to confirm deletion.

Remember deleting the username admin will delete all the posts created using that ID. To avoid this ensure that you choose the option “Attribute all posts and links to” and choose the username that you want these posts to be attributed to from the drop down menu.

After the six steps you have created a new user and removed the default admin user from your WordPress Blog. You can create as many users with administrative rights in the same manner.Similar Posts:

Twitter.com is a known and popular microblogging site with over 25 million active members. This has been a rage among the people where blogging was happening in a micro way. It was not long when an article was written on Bing.com, Microsoft’s search engine gaining popularity. Today we have another news of Yahoo.com taking advantage of Bing’s popularity.

It is now official, Micorsoft’s Bing will be the search engine for Yahoo.com. This will be the case for at least the next 10 years. We knew that Microsoft was vying for Yahoo.com for an all cash deal before things went sour among the two companies.

This news seems to be revival of sorts and what is to be watched is whether this, not very comprehensive deal on search engine sharing goes through to a merger or buy out. The details of this deal is as below

- The actual time for which Yahoo.com will be served by Bing’s search results is still vague

- Yahoo will keep 88% of the advertising revenue through search results

- Yahoo can serve it’s advertisements on some of the Microsoft’s sites

- Microsoft will retain the information on user analytics, demographies, interests. This information will prove good in the long run.

This brings together two giants on the internet space who share the second and the third positions to combat against Google’s supreme stance.

What is to be watched is the performance of this merger. The fact that Google now maintains 65-70% market share on searches world wide is a cause of concern.

The internet space has always been hot and now things have just gotten hotter in terms of search results served and the revenues earned. What do we stand to receive in this bargain? nothing actually. We sure can be contempt with a lot more search results and with a lot more relevance (maybe!).

One thing to remember is the fact that Google has announced the launch of cheaper and efficient operating systems for the people. This means that the war is not just in the internet space but has now started to spill over to other divisions related to online servicing.

Comment - A remark, criticism, or observation

A comment is an expression of like or dislike on a blog/website. Many people leave comments on blog articles to share their views on the article. This was continuing since launch of guest books and blogs on the internet.

Commentators on these blogs and websites of others started realising that the comments they left are helping them in search engine rankings. The google juice started trickling to the websites of commentators and viola, they gained in pagerank. This was a great piece of information that rages like forest fire and people started considering commenting as a primary task to boost rankings of their blogs and websites.

It was just a matter of time where the entire internet community comprising bloggers, webmasters, website owners alike were at it, commenting on other websites. This was not just open for genuine people but also people who run websites that stand no regard in the society. So, before you know the internet world was one big mound of spam comments. These comments started chocking the internet and became a nuisance to blog and website owners.

Spam refers to unsolicited mass communications distributed through electronic mail or posted in on-line discussion forums

Now, judging between genuine comments and the spams have become tough for the blog and website owners. There are lots being done to curtail spamming and shun spammers which include a certain plugins, no follow attribute, stopping comments on the websites (this is of course a drastic step to take). Has the spams come down in numbers after all this? The answer is a big no. The spammers are in a winning situation what ever the case, the spammers typically use spam bots which involves no physical input from spammers. The spam bots start posting comments on all blogs and websites at a click of a button and even if just a few comments pass through and get published it is a win for spammers.

The last couple of days has been very important for UnoBlogger.com. The blog has undergone a transformation from what it was to a certain new outlook. There were quite a few reasons why this transformation was carried out, primarily to list a few

- A dull and boring web page

- Navigation were not strong and it is evident with bounce rate

- The social media did not get a front seat in the previous web page template

- Add more professional (serious) touch to the blog, this blog means business

- Not enough sidebar space for additional advertising regions

The list is big and will sure take a lot more time to list them all. This post is not to list the reason why there is a change but, just to announce the change.

You will see the blog as it was prior to the transformation and post transformation.

Your twitter account is now regarded as the best social networking tool available. Although there are many other social networks that are there on the web space, nothing has got the fan following like twitter has. Why would I choose not to follow someone with a simple link?

The way these links are used is something of a concern. These web links can direct anyone to the pages you link to, the pages can be a website of yours, a blog or a personal page.

What implications can there be if you link your twitter account to any page other than a landing page?

Your blog - Your blog will surely be a great link provided there is some information about you in your homepage. This is seldom the case with all of us, we would place our information in the About page. This is a hurdle for people wanting to find out who you are.

Your Resume - Not all people who are wanting to link to you on twitter is a potential employer. That being the case, the logic behind you linking your twitter account to your resume is defeated. I personally would not publish my life history to all.

Your Myspace/Facebook Page - I wonder why people link their personal pages to the world. Maybe a question that should not be asked to all but, I have the personal and professional lives separate.

Your website - Similar explanation as with the blog’s link. The website is even more professional in terms of the content and the layout

Your Short URL - A short URL is something that I am always worried about and everytime I click on a short URL I have a certain inhibition. The reason, a short URL is morphed, it would not reveal the domain until it is clicked. There is a potential for links with virus or links that will lead me to a porn site.

For these reasons, it is better to have a landing page and link the same to the twitter account. This is to give the people visiting a first hand information on who you are and quickly. The landing page takes off the need to navigate to a page where you have information on yourself.

Twitter has become a part of many people’s lives and I am no different. My twitter account @unoblogger has now over 500 followers and I now follow 118 people. This can trigger a question, why do I follow so less people in comparison to the people who follow me?

The answer lies in the person’s twitter account I am scrutinizing to follow. There are a lot of factors I consider prior to following a person. These factors where I choose not to follow a person are listed as below

No Photo - This can be a factor that a lot of people can overlook but, the very fact that you’ve uploaded a photograph to your twitter account shows genuineness

No Bio - A bio is a quick summary of what sort of a person you are. There better be a bio for me to consider following you

No URL - The web link that is provided for people to link their twitter account should essentially have something. This is for me to click and find out more about this person I am wanting to follow.

The URL is abnormal - There are a lot of URLs which don’t belong to any domain or does not have a proper domain name. This will turn me down, cause I am sure the link and the person is ambiguous. There are also people who have short url like bit.ly/77dnsdja or ow.ly/1jsd9asdx. These won’t trigger my inquisitiveness, I would only be worried where this link will lead me.

XXX Related - Your twitter account and your updates are related to porn. I would not follow you

TFF ratio is skewed - The TFF ratio is nothing but the twitter follower to friend ratio, which is published as decimals. The TFF ratio needs to be impressive, I think twice to follow people with less than .30 TFF ratio.

Only quotes/message for the day - Your updates are always some quote or some message of the day. It is really nice to be motivating the people, but I sure would like to follow a person.

Self promotional - Your tweets always boasts about yourself, self proclaiming, self promotional.

Get rich quick scheme - There are lots of schemes and offers that get floated around and these are at times a little overboard. I would like to find out about making money online or earning money when I want to find out.

Not many interesting tweets - There are a lot of people who have a routine to their tweets. They start off right from the morning breakfast that they had till they wish us good night. This routine becomes boring after a certain time.

Only links on news and current affairs - There are many updates that you provide, but it is more so links to other articles, news and updates. This is good in a way and good if within limits.

Website link is myspace or facebook profile - Yes, not all of us are webmasters or bloggers and not all of us have a presentable profile page. If the link is having myspace page, squidoo, facebook pages, I would think twice to follow you.

Self proclaimed - Self proclaimation is good if there is a commendable achievement of yours. Calling yourself a social media expert, SEO expert are not cool. Having expert tags are to be weighed, it will be scrutinized by people on the internet, I would.

Tweets on increasing twitter count - Most of your tweets are preaching ways to increase your twitter followers.

Not engaging me - If you are a celebrity or the internet god or goddess, then you have many people following you already. Your tweets won’t be as engaging and it will not interest me.

I would call myself a blogger, irrespective of whether I am a part-time blogger or a full time blogger. A blogger is a writer in a way, blogger writes blog posts. It never struck me that I am prone to being hit by a condition which would make me lose my ability to produce new work, in this case new posts. I did not know, there existed a condition where in people were unable to provide any new work like novels, articles, or blog posts.

For a long time I was unable to think and act on newer posts. There was a sort of block that never allowed me to concentrate on any new projects. This condition has lasted for a few weeks and this is when I thought I would try and understand what is causing this block. The fact is that I never even knew that this condition is prevalent among the writers and it even had a name.

What causes a writer’s block?

Running out of ideas : The writer might experience lack of creativity for reasons like running out of ideas to pen. There could have been a subject where all topics have been discussed and there are no further topics available.

Could be that there is no more inspiration : Lack of motivation and inspiration can become a hurdle to a writer.

The subject is beyond the writers capability : There have been times when we would have understood the potential to a topic to write as a blog or a novel. With this aspect the project is launched and what follows is that the writer is not aware or learned with the subject to pursue further.

Other emotional hurdles : The writer could be going through certain trauma in his/her life. This can be in a form of a simple financial instability to a major form of losing one’s near and dear one.

The pressure to create : At times a writer is pressurized by their own standards to meet and at times by the publishers or blog owners. These are the times when the quality of work takes a beating. This burns people out and writers are people too.

Is there a way to overcome a writer’s block?

There is not just one way to overcome the writer’s block and start to produce written work. A few ways how a block can be over come is as below,

- Taking a break, this can be done by just pursuing something else other than writing for some time.

- Also can be done is taking a road trip

- Learning a musical instrument, listening to music

- meditate, learn and do yoga

There are many more ways to divert yourself from writing until you feel you can get back to it.

Writing is an art and it requires a calm, serene, beautiful place to let your creativity and the words flow with no bounds.

The writer’s block ranges from a mild block to a more serious extreme blocks. These extremes are what causes the writer abandon writing as a career and pursue something totally different.
