I have never been accused of being the person in the room with the highest E.Q. (emotional quotient), but when it comes to lyrics, some will resonate with me until the day I die and stir feelings I barely knew I had. It seems as if I could compile a list of lyrics from favorite songs that would completely tell my life story, and describe my outlook/life perfectly.

But, it is what is. None of my favorite lyrics were written specifically about me; merely they are the result a simple fundamental fact in action. We are all products of biological processes and part of the human condition. We endure similar emotions (maybe for different reasons) and can empathize when another individual speaks of these feelings. Even when we suspect we are outsiders and continually fighting against the status quo, there still exists a desire to, at the very least, know there are others out there with similar feelings.

As this song describes me nearly perfectly, stubborn, independent, solitary, it is still comforting to “know we are not alone”.

Here the words of this song. The deaths on a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan are not merely statistics or faceless names, they are sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, friends and loved ones.

Not much focus has been cast upon ending the wars since the beginning of the economic meltdown, but this issue is equally if not significantly more important than all other ‘crisis’. There are lives being lost needlessly so, on both sides of the conflict and now they seem to have taken a back seat to financial woes. While lives are being lost, the issue should not be remanded to a position of less importance.

Keep pushing the leadership to end these conflicts and bring the troops back home. Certainly, more enemies have been created than murdered by participating in these military actions.

Disregarding the numerous more weighty, serious matters that indicate flaws within the ‘design’ claim. The laymen need only look to every-day occurrences that illuminate great missteps within the claim for a so-called designer. For instance…

Take sunburns. I recently acquired a mild sunburn, nothing major, but a sunburn none the less. A designer of the ‘intelligent’ brand that is often propped up by the anti-science, anti-evolution community, surely could have envisioned mankind spending a great deal of time outdoors in various types of climate. Yet, the human form is very ill-equipped to absorb many of the ‘elements’ without some form of environmental engineering/alteration. The homo-sapien left solely to natural defenses, ones purportedly imparted from an infinitely wise creator, quickly becomes subject to numerous afflictions and ailments.

Sure, humans have the intelligence that allows for an engineering of the surrounding enviroment, but what of this so-called ‘design’. An engineer, when developing technologies that may have direct consequence in regards to human life, will utilize back up systems and fail-safes. Unfortunately, a feature lacking within many species on this planet. Survival truely becomes a matter of, not what we are ‘designed’ for, but rather a matter of how quickly we might adapt and how universal our natural defenses might be in regards to different enviroments…
